Did Martin Scorsese tell Leo DiCaprio his partying ways cost him 2 Oscars?

Leonardo DiCaprio

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio love each other so much. Leo is Marty’s contemporary muse, and they have made five movies together. I think — correct me if I’m wrong — but let’s run down the titles really quick: Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and this month’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Yep, that’s five. Leo and Marty also share a very special father-son type of relationship which shows in joint interviews. Martin calls Leo, “my boy.” Awww.

This week’s issue of the Enquirer has a story about how Martin has tried to give Leo some “tough love” regarding his career. The article says Leo was venting to Marty after George Clooney shaded him in Esquire last month for being the “trash-talking” leader of the basketball-handicapped p-ssy posse. George is basically the spirit of the Academy, which is in charge of Oscar nominations and voting. Leo’s been nominated three times, but I don’t think he’s ever been close to winning an Academy Award. Is this Clooney’s influence at work? Who knows, but Marty tells Leo he needs to shape up his social life if he ever wants to win some Oscar gold:

Legendary director Martin Scorsese blasted his Wolf of Wall Street star Leonardo DiCaprio, telling the hunk to quit behaving like an immature party boy or he can kiss his Oscar dreams goodbye!

The two had the tough-love talk after Leonardo complained to Scorsese about George Clooney criticizing the actor for hanging out with a trash-talking crowd. Clooney also implied that Leonardo needs to have people with him who can keep him grounded.

Leonardo, 39, was furious when he heard about Geroge’s comments — and he was even more steamed when Scorsese, 71, seemed to side with Geroge!

“Martin told Leo he’s as gifted a performer as he’s ever worked with, but at his age he should have won two Oscars by now,” said the soruce. “Instead, Leo has been shut out by the actors and Hollywood people who cast the Oscar votes.

“He told Leo he should get serious about his life and stop hanging out with hoodlums, trying to bed every girl who catches his eye and going out partying all the time.”

The actor has dated a string of gorgeous women, including supermodels Gisele Bundchen and Bar Refaeli, but has never married. As the Enquirer has reported, his mom Irmelen is also getting on his case about settling down and giving her a grandchild.

Despite the pressure, it seems unlikely that Leonardo will change anytime soon. “Leo still loves hitting the clubs and partying it up with his posse,” the source added. “He likes his life as it is.”

[From Enquirer, print edition, December 23, 2013]

I think Leo is a little bit bothered that he’s appeared in so many critically acclaimed movies and gets nominated for awards, but he’s never won the Oscar. I also believe that Martin would try to nudge Leo onto the straight and narrow. Maybe Marty encouraged him to spend less time with Victoria’s Secret models on yachts and pick up a nice, steady girlfriend for awards season. Sort of like George Clooney usually does. Of course Leo will never do this. He may want an Oscar, but the dude has his own priorities.

In oddball Leo news, NYDaily News reports that the party boy was spotted getting down last weekend in NYC’s meatpacking district on Tuesday evening. Leo was partying with a bunch of models and …. Orlando Bloom. Strange right? I guess maybe Leo’s not getting with Miranda Kerr after all. Hmm.

I don’t see why his personal behavior should have any bearing on whether he wins an oscar for his acting. It would be nice if these awards were based simply on the acting. Leo is very successful and a great actor, he should live his life how he pleases and if his acting merits an Oscar he should get one. It seems so silly the way you have to play a game to get an oscar. Performances should just speak for themselves.

    • Tapioca says:

Quite. Jack Nicholson has a far worst reputation for partying and the ladies and he has three – Leo just hasn’t had a completely stand out role yet. The years he was nominated he lost to Forest Whitaker (Last King of Scotland) and Jamie Foxx (Ray), both of whom were slam dunks for their roles, so I don’t see how living like a monk would have won him an Oscar by now.

      • Hm says:

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? He deserved that one!

        Basketball Diaries
        The Departed
        The Aviator
        Revolutionary Road
        Django

The guy is amazing. I think the old guys have something against him.

      • don't kill me i'm french says:

@Hm: you’re right on he deserved to win for Gilbert Grape

      • PixieWitch says:

        dont forget:
        Gangs of New York
        Titanic
        Shutter Island
        Romeo & Juliet
        The Departed
he is amazing in everything. He really picks awesome acting gigs.

      • Tulip Garden says:

Dicaprio as Arnie was amazing! He brought him to life so well that it is very easy for me to imagine Arnie out there now living life in his own sweet, spectacular way. The thought of it makes me happy 🙂

      • Spooks says:

@Hm, out of the roles you mentioned, he only amazed me in Gilbert Grape.

      • hiddlesgirl85 says:

I loooved him in Gilbert Grape as well. That has really been his only stand out performace, in my opinion.

      • nico says:

He definitely deserved to win for Gilbert Grape.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Catch Me If You Can? Anyone?

He was an actor I always admired but until I saw him in that film, I never realized how unique he is. He was able to seamlessly oscillate between a vulnerable, child-like innocence and a confident, savvy swindler. I really couldn’t see any other actor playing that role as effectively as he did.

      • nico says:

        @TOK

Do you think that DiCaprio is a better actor than Joaquin Phoenix?

I’ve noticed that you are a fan of both and was wondering. I love both but find Phoenix to be the more natural actor.

      • Tulip Garden says:

        @TOK,
That was my exact thoughts regarding “Catch me if you can”! The switching back and forth was …wow!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

@Nico-Phoenix FTW. He has slightly more range than Leo. I really like both though.

Glad I wasn’t the only one that noticed it, Tulip 🙂

    • Eleonor says:

This: Leo is a serial womanizer, but nothing more. I’ve always thought he must have pissed someone in the academy, but that’s my personal conspiracy theory.

      • endoplamic_ridiculum says:

        Probably shagged his wife.

      • Florc says:

Leo has been gunning for an Oscar for years and years! He began focusing on very serious Oscar baity roles after Titanic. There was talk he would never get an Oscar no matter how hard he tried to pursuade the Academy voters. He rubbed some of them the wrong way. Not sure if it was an affair or attitude. It was so long ago. Ever since then though he’s only shot for Oscar baity roles and always gets shut down so I believe it more now.

    • Enuff Said says:

I loved him in “This boy’s life”,…a brilliant young Leo opposite Deniro. One of my favorites!

  2. Baskingshark says:

On the plus side, Leo’s face is a shoo-in for the role of leading balloon in Up 2.

  3. blue marie says:

I can actually see this happening but only if Leo was complaining. I may think he’s a douche, but Leo is a good actor. I do find it dumb that someone would have to change their ways to get approval, if it were me I don’t know that I’d be able to do it either.

    • Tulip Garden says:

I agree with you in that I am not a great fan of Leo’s personal life but I love his work. I do think the work is what an Oscar should be about. As far as changing one’s priorities to get an Oscar, if you prize an Oscar so much that it becomes a number one priority and you compromise on your personal life to get one, well, I don’t think that your “priorities” are straight anyway so you lost too much to gain too little. JMO.

      • LOL says:

        + 1

Leo deserves the Oscar but it is good to see he does not live his life thinking about it. You have to play the game to get one.

      • nico says:

This story confuses me. Why would he need to change his lifestyle to make Hollywood happy? It’s not like he’s the first or only womanizer in Hollywood. Most of the Academy voters are probably assholes. Pot meet kettle.

  4. MrsBPitt says:

I don’t think Orlando would even care if Leo was doin the dirty with Miranda Kerr. Orlando looks so much happier since that split. Regarding Leo, I just never understand why an actors personal life would have any effect on whether or not they are nominated for an award. After all, Roman Polanski and Woody Allen both have Oscars!

    • littlemissnaughty says:

And that really says a lot about who votes, no? It’s ridiculous. Just look at how Affleck and Garner wh*red themselves out and it paid off. Now they’re back to calling the paparazzi criminals. At least Leo is honest about who he is.

    • VioletCrumble says:

He may have done the dirty with Orlando’s estranged missus at some point, but it is evidently over now. Apparently, she’s “deeply in love” with billionaire, James Packer (casino and media mogul) these days, and he with her. She’s apparently well-liked in Asia (!), where James spends a lot of time these days setting up more of his gambling empire. Interestingly, James’ second ex-wife, model Erica, comes from the same country town as Kerr, Gunnedah, NSW.

  5. Anna says:

LOL did anyone else see the various spelling errors in NE article? hahaha

I kind of feel bad for Leo now, it’s an ongoing joke (that is wildly popular on tumblr) that he has no major awards in the past few years.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

as i think Leo deserved to be nod for REVOLUTIONARY ROAD or DGANJO ENCHAINED as i don’t don’t think he didn’t deserve to win recently (he’s very gonzo in WOLF OF WALL STREET or he was too young in Howard Hugues movie)
AND i don’t think it’s because of his private life that he’s not nominated or win some awards:Clooney enjoys to be single and he yet was nominated several times

  6. Miss M says:

Leo gave the cold shoulder to the Academy years ago when he didn’t get nominated for Titanic and didn’t show up. So, the Academy (a bunch of grown people who never left the high school mentality) keeps giving the cold shoulder to him too.

I am with Kaiser on it. Clooney “called” Leo out and the back-pedaling was his way to show he is friends with Leo…

  7. TG says:

I don’t think Leo is that good of an actor. He is just a doughboy. I don’t judge him for not getting married but it is tacky to be out partying at his age. I can’t forget the pics of him swinging chains around his neck at Cannes. He also missed the Australian premiere of Gatsby so he could party with models on a yacht. Sounds like a real winner.

    • lol says:

Nah! He is a great actor. Problem is you have to campaign to win that shIt.

      • Rhiley says:

Exactly! The Oscars really do not mean anything anymore. While I thought Jennifer Lawrence terrific in Winter’s Bone, and deserved the nomination, she was terrible in Silver Linings Playbook, and certainly did not deserve to win.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        The Oscars are pure shite.
Also, it’s odd to even bring up the dude’s personal life within the context of his work. If you wanna shade him for modelizing, have at it, but the man is a gifted actor and I’m certain he handles himself in a professional manner on set. What he does is his free time should have ZERO bearing on how he’s viewed within the industry, as long as he shows up to the set on time and gives it his all.

Honestly, I’m surprised anyone would doubt DiCaprio’s commitment to the craft.
My personal opinion is that he is LONG overdue for recognition from the Academy, but again the Oscars are a farce anyway so…meh.

      • nico says:

        @TOK

        +100

It’s amazing considering his success that he hasn’t been involved with any scandals. No rehab stays, arrests, reports of diva behavior or other problems that face some of his contemporaries.

I don’t give a hoot about his dating habits.

      • Pink says:

@TheOriginalKitten You tell them, woman haha.
        Agree with you.

      • Spooks says:

I don’t think he should be “honored” because of his past roles, shouldn’t only the one role in that year count?
Besides, his love life would only be a problem if he was a woman. Can you imagine a woman getting away with such an reputation?

      • Tulip Garden says:

        +1000 TOK and Nico

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

“I don’t think he should be “honored” because of his past roles, shouldn’t only the one role in that year count?”

You realize we’re talking about the Oscars right??? Actors who are snubbed one year are often later rewarded by the Academy for performances that were entirely “non-Oscar worthy” (even the term “Oscar-worthy” reeks of pretention and self-importance to me). Of course, it’s ridiculous and unfair but again-that’s THE OSCARS.

      • Miss M says:

I honestly think that Leo will be one of those actors who get honored later in their careers, which it’s unfortunate.

Let’s face it, how many actors are in great movies which are also blockbusters? I only can say Leo. Boy, he delivers in every single performance!

      • Christin says:

Or, you become ill and garner sympathy as Liz did in 1960. She’d been passed over three years in a row. And she snubbed her next Oscar win a few years later because she thought Burton was being repeatedly passed over.

Oscars have been filled with drama and controversial wins for decades.

      • I Choose Me says:

Gary Oldman people. Never nominated until Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. How bananas is that? Like Leo, he’s given consistently amazing performances and yet no statue. That there is all the proof I need that the Academy Awards are mostly a farce.

  8. manta says:

I’m wondering if Di Caprio is really that upset about not having an Oscar, or is this just media salivating over this, having just found some good gossip material? I mean, the guy has a great career, has worked with great directors, has played in films earning most of the time critical and public appreciation, has produced some good ones too.
I find it hard to believe that he’s lost sleep over the lack of an Oscar.
I mean Pacino was 50+ when he was awarded one and it was for one his worst parts. Better no statuette than this, imo.
Scorsese himself won only at 65. Why would he advise his actor to bend before a bunch that snubbed him all these years?
Di Caprio has been navigating long enough in Tinseltown to know that’s probably what awaits him: the Academy will give up in a few years when the snub becomes too much, or giving him some achievement piece in the end. Again, don’t see why he should change his lifestyle for that.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

Dicaprio’s desire to win an Oscar is even a joke for the movies journalists/Oscar bloggers

    • Pink says:

Leo does not give a F. He said he wants to make good movies and I believe him.

He knows he will get one sooner or later.

    • Kate says:

IMO, I think Scorsese should have more than 1 Oscar. I don’t think the establishment care for him either.

    • MrsBPitt says:

Scorsese not winning the Oscar for Goodfellas was criminal!!!!!

  9. Evi says:

These awards are based on networking and campaigning most of the time. His dating wouldn’t be an issue, but being constantly visible, i.e. having to show the world that you can pull models in, is immature.
I think he played Gatsby way better than Robert Redford did, but that film is not an Oscar vehicle. I thought that Hoover would have been an Oscar vehicle, but when I watched it, the story was a little watered down [i.e. white washed]. As for the Wolf of Wall Street?
Who knows. But I still wonder why casting directors always hire Jonah Hill, but because of the schmoozing, it will be Jonah Hill having a higher chance of an Oscar than DiCaprio, even though Hill is a z-grade actor.
The Academy snubbed Scorcese for years as well, and I doubt it was due to his incapability as a director. He is one of the top directors and still they were bastards to him.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I saw him in Great Gatsby, and to be honest, the performances were great–the movie itself was boring. Halfway through I was just wondering when it was going to end. It’s not the type of book that you can make into a film easily. It looked pretty, but it was boring.

      • endoplamic_ridiculum says:

Same here. But then again I feel that way about most Baz Luhrman films. Always feel like a very long art project what with the costumes and theatrical movement and those OTT soundtracks.. I recently watched Romeo and Juliet again. Damn. By the end of Romeo and Juliet I REALLY wanted LDC and Claire Danes to stop touching each other to the warblings of “I’m KISSSING YOUUUUU” and to just hurry up and off themselves….

        Ugh.

  10. Della says:

Where does the notion come from that he is a good actor? Not from any of his performances, surely.

  11. mercy says:

I seriously doubt he’s as desperate for awards as the running meme suggests, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone hasn’t said words to this effect to him at some point. His lifestyle shouldn’t matter, and I don’t think it does in terms of winning awards. Getting nominated in a crowded field maybe, but you would think they’d want him in attendance for his star power.

Arnie in Gilbert Grape is by far my favourite performance of his. He is a highly gifted and entertaining performer, but he seemed more natural as a young actor.

  12. Rhiley says:

I thought it kind of rich that it was Clooney who called Leo out for his partying ways. Well hhhheeellllllooooooo Mr Pot, meet Mr Kettle. Leo may love his social life, but you never hear about him being anything but a professional. He shows up, gives over 100%, promotes, and seems to forge really strong relationship with many of his costars. He does have a douchey, playboy side, but he doesn’t waste studio money supporting his partying ways. I kind of hope he doesn’t change. Actually, I think he would seem more disingenious and douchey if he were to marry and have a baby in an effort to win an Oscar.

  13. Mar says:

I feel like part of him never winning has to do with that in Hollywood, usually men have a disadvantage in winning- and it is youth. Leo has a youthful aura, not sure if it’s the fact that he was a child star and still looked at like a young boy or maybe his looks, or his personal life- but he is just not a distinguished gentlemen in many of his peers’ eyes.

    • Han says:

I don’t think so. Adrian Brody won an Oscar in his 20s its because he was truly outstanding in The Pianist. if you look at the times Leo has been nominated i don’t believe there ever was a time where he was the stand out.

  14. Jess says:

He’s an amazing actor in my opinion, I have no doubt he’ll get an Oscar eventually. I can think of a few movies he deserved one for, but hopefully his personal life has nothing to do with it! I do wish he’d stop with the young models though, he seems intelligent and I’ve always wondered why he goes for girls like that, enough already.

  15. Littlewood says:

Well, if all it took for Miranda to be coupled with Leo was attending the same dinner, shouldn’t there be rumors coming out now about ‘Nardo and ‘Lando? This is twice now in a month. Or was the dinner rumors just a plant by Kerr’s team to make her seem more desirable, seeing there is nothing else going on in her life to keep her in the media?

  16. Lark says:

It wouldn’t surprise me if someone gave Leo a sit-down talk. Yes, Jack Nicholson was a million times wilder than Leo (cheated on all of his wives and girlfriends, slept around with about 9 million models, fathered numerous children by different women, drank heavily, did drugs, etc.)….but in a weird way Hollywood has become more “image” conscious as of late and now an actor has to “sell” their public image as well unless they are super, super established a la Daniel Day Lewis or Meryl Streep or (majorly gagging by saying this, Roman Polanski). There was an interesting article on this recently about Benedict Cumberbatch and Hiddles, and I’ve seen film journalists make comments about it too….It’s very few that can get away with not doing it anymore, and even Joaquin Phoenix walked back some of his criticism of the awards circuit.

    • Agreed. I do not envy a publicist’s job nowadays. Image seems to be just as important as the work (witness Affleck’s behavior last year.) Leo probably needed a sit-down after blowing off “The Great Gatsby” promotion to party with barely legal-age models on a yacht. That got a ton of coverage. And I don’t buy that Leo just wants to do good work and doesn’t care about an Oscar. EVERYONE cares about an Oscar.

  17. pretty kitty says:

if douchelord russel crowe can win an Oscar than it comes down to leo pissing off the academy a long time ago and them not giving up the grudge.. and jack nickelson is old school, he is voted on by his contempororaries, not his dads.

  18. Han says:

He is a solid actor but he hasn’t had that stand out role yet. His closest was Gilpert Grape. I am sure one day he will have that role that amazes everyone or they will give it to him because he is due. Don’t think it has anything to do with his partying ways. Jack Nicholson has a few oscars and he was way worse.

  19. Heather says:

YAYYYY for Marty giving some real advice and being honest. Celebs are surrounded by so many sycophants – I feel like no one ever tells them the honest to God truth (i.e. Justin Bieber) and it is a disservice to them. I love Leo as an actor, I really do — and I think that he does deserve an Oscar. But his personal life is just incredibly seedy-seeming and without integrity or maturity and I think that turns Oscar voters off.

  20. hiddlesgirl85 says:

To be honest, I don’t believe that he gave any Academy Award winning performances in his last two-nominated performances: The Aviator and Blood Diamond; so I don’t understand why he (or anyone else) would be complaining that he hasn’t won yet. He was also nominated during years where there were other locks for the Best Actor Oscar (Jamie Foxx and Forest Whitaker, respectively).

Really, the only AMAZING performace he gave was in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and he was definately not winning that year — that was the year Tommy Lee Jones was honored for The Fugitive (a more popular and well known film and performance).

  21. Talie says:

Even if Leo did sleep with Miranda, Orlando would forgive it because Leo has power and Orlando has about zero right now. He needs all the help he can get.

  22. als says:

Shocker! Maybe Leo is not getting an Oscar because he’s not a good enough actor all around.
I mean he seems to have the tendency to only act in movies, (maybe he thinks acting is a job!)whereas George Clooney and Jennifer Lawrence (the 2 Oscar darlings) act their way through movies and life as well. Of course, one could argue that acting in movies is a profession and acting in real life is plain lying but nowadays the latter is labeled great marketing or genuine talent.
By the looks of things, Leo D. won’t get an Oscar anytime soon, if ever. Of course if I was him I wouldn’t give up rolling in money and Victoria Secret models for an Oscar show either.

  23. Ah says:

    This flawless KING!

    Call me, Leo 😉

  24. Nene says:

…and the most annoying aspect of all these is that when he finally wins the Oscar it would be for an under-rated and under-performed role. This is cos most of his great and outstanding performances have been snobed over the years. More like a ‘pity’ Oscar.
I call it the Hollywood Method.

  25. frisbeejada says:

I dont think Academy Members vote for the best acting performance, Academy Members vote for the performances/films that will make them look good (i.e. liberal, intelligent, enlightened) it’s the only reason I can think of why classic films like Goodfella’s lose out in the same year that Driving Miss Daisy Wins – ancient example I know but repeated in some categories – Al Pacino didnt get it for the Godfather Part 2 (a towering performanc IMHO) but got it for The Scent of a Woman (in his ‘shouty Al’ persona) I think DiCaprio is a good rather than a great actor BUT he’s better and more versatile than some actors who have won (Adrien Brody springs to mind) he has an image problem for the Academy, he’s not going to make them look good if he gets it and in the end Oscar voters vote to serve themselves – they don’t vote to serve/help an actors career. I think the whole thing is a nonsense and an expensive way to promote the film industry on a global scale. And even if he did get it – would it make him a better actor or just make some people think he is? Sorry about the long post…

    • Irishae says:

I agree with you. I always thought when Michael Fassbender wasn’t nominated for ‘Shame’ it was because Academy voters weren’t going to hand an Oscar to guy who played a sex addict with multiple full frontals in a dreary movie about unlikeable people. No reason when Abraham Lincoln is standing right there (no shade towards DDL). Perhaps that’s why ‘The Social Network’ failed to take home any significant awards and ‘Crash’ won over ‘Brokeback Mountain.’ The Academy is terribly self-congratulatory and image-consciousness, often at the same time and to the point of contradiction.

      • taxi says:

People vote for themselves, their families, & their friends. That’s how an ensemble movie like Crash won over Brokeback Mountain.

  26. HoustonGrl says:

I don’t think Leo gives two sh*ts about the academy. And as for his “hard” partying ways, so what! Most of the time he looks like he’s having a lot of fun. Marriage, family, etc. – isn’t for everyone.

  27. CosmicGirl says:

He should definitely have gotten an Oscar for his hotness in The Departed.

    • CosmicGirl says:

An other two for the Aviator.

    • Mathieu says:

As someone who really really love the original movie-in case you didn’t know, The Departed was an adaption of an Hong Kong movie called Infernal Affairs- I must say, I HATE The Departed and all those over the top performances, I mean, come on, the original one is flawless and the subtle performances are all brilliant and served the story well, why bother make a remake?! Just leave the classic be classic pleaaaaaase! I can’t understand the American’s love of that remake even to the point the academy decided to give Martin an Oscar, it was ridiculous considering they refused to award for such masterpieces like Raging Bull, Taxi Driver or Goodfellas. The Departed might be the only Martin movie I hated wholeheartedly IMO, and I’m a huge Martin fan for almost ten years.

  28. JC says:

Maybe he hasn’t won an Oscar because he’s just not that great of an actor. He’s no Daniel Day-Lewis, okay? Every role I see him in, I’m acutely reminded that I am watching Leo DiCaprio. He never disappears into a role for me.

    • Bubulle says:

That’s a false argument Sandra, Julia, Halle, Cuba and George have won, on the contrary Gary Oldman got his first nod two years ago which is rather telling.

      • taxi says:

Sandra got an Oscar for The Blind Side, playing herself with a southern accent. No “acting” skill was required but it was an appealing & politically correct story.

  29. Ruyana says:

When DListed’s nickname for you is Leonardo Decatchaho that might be a clue that you need to shift gears. Or stop complaining about not getting an Oscar.

    • Tulip Garden says:

Or it might mean that the academy should shift gears and award acting awards for acting. As for dlisted may it never change, it does its job!

  30. Carolyn says:

If you believe the PR, Miranda has moved onto a billionaire. Leo’s not rich enough.

Leo seems to either have peeved off people who vote for Oscars and/or hasn’t campaigned hard enough.

  31. Marianne says:

Uggghh. It shouldnt be about your personal life. Honestly. You should win an award if you were the best actor that year.

  32. terry says:

Clooney does not have influence with the academy. If he did he would not try so hard to get an oscar. He is as desperate as leo and brad to get one. Leo can only blame himself but he really is not a good actor. He has been lucky to work with Scorcese and it has been rumored Nolan did not enjoy working with Leo. I think he has angered some people in HW behind the scenes.

  33. BackstageBitchy says:

@Nico- “no reports if diva behavior”… Are you kidding!? Maybe not tantrums on set, but he is a notorious diva douche in his daily life on a regular basis. I’ve encountered him personally at least 4 times over the years, and he is a RELENTLESS jerk. From being rude to fans, press, other guests at parties, to demanding his entourage be allowed in high security areas, to traveling in an attention-grabbing entourage of thugs protecting man-children while claiming to be “low key”, he a class A jerk baby in real life.

I had one friend who was nominated for an Academy award — it was a nonstop PR whirlwind (ie, nightmare) of luncheons and festivals and panels and interviews and dinners. Winning that award often comes down to how charming you are and who is the best at wooing the members who vote. Leo may be a hit with Victorian models, but it sounds like sucks at small talk with industry types.

Oooooh- I am begging for more details re your run-ins with douche baby! This is my kind if gossip ;-). Please!

i always thought he was a major jerk after reading that article about his “pussy posse” gang and how they behaved in the 90’s
never thought he was that great of an actor either, very much over hyped and overrated JMO

Then who gives a f__k about an Oscar then! The fact that it’s so political, devalues the crap out of it anyways. Why do so many people in society believe the ends justify the means in nearly every facet of life? It’s a primitive mindset… monkey mentality!
Dicaprio’s performance in the Departed was epic! One of the best performances I’ve ever seen. So those in charge of the Oscars could go and shove it up their ass! They’ve devalued the Oscar to the point where I see it as a negative attribute on an actors resume. So I hope Leo never gets one, he’s way to good of an actor to deserve an Oscar.
I never realized that Clooney was such an asshole. He essentially told Leo that if he doesn’t suck his dick he’ll never win an Oscar regardless of his performance!

I used to be so in love with him (when I was a kid around the time of Romeo and Juliet) but now just respect him as an actor. His personal life is kinda sad but he is clearly gifted. I’d say he’s deserved an Oscar ten times over if the Oscars had anything to do with talent. He should grow up for his own sake as a human being but screw the idea of shilling for an Oscar by fabricating a more wholesome persona. Keep doing you Leo, hopefully one day that will mean having a respectable personal life.

Before this post, I actually thought Leo already won the Oscars at least once…
Disregarding his personally life, he is a really good actor.

  37. Flower says:

Leo is a very talented actor but he is just not a likeable/buddy person and he doesn’t suck up to the Hollywood voting brigade by marathons of glad handing them during voting season (aka Clooney). The Oscars are just as much a popularity and PR contest as a talent test , so Leo will probably be nominated and passed over many times until he is an old man. Just look at Peter O’Toole’s career.

  38. Lorelei says:

Oh, come on! George Clooney? Really? Why that womanizer thinks that he can criticize Leo’s lifestyle? If Clooney was a woman in Hollywood, they’ll call him a b*tch.
I don’t see Clooney as an “wow” actor, anyway. The male version of Julia Roberts – my opinion.
Leo has an awesome range. He’s one of the most talented actors out there and should not give a sh*t about the Oscars.
Tim Roth doesn’t have an Oscar, Gary Oldman doesn’t have one too (just to name two amazing actors ignored by the Academy). Clooney is overrated and deluded.
