Tom Hiddleston won MTV’s ‘Sexiest Man’ title with 77% of the vote: yikes or yay?

hiddles1

This is not surprising in the least. MTV adores Tom Hiddleston, and MTV readers just voted Tom Hiddleston their “Sexiest Man Alive”. While I disagree that Tommy even makes the top five “sexiest men,” I think we can all agree that Tommy ranks much higher than… Adam Levine, People Mag’s current “SMA”. I don’t even think Tommy made People Mag’s short-list, right? And now here he is, the reigning champion of sexy. I wonder how many times Josh Horowitz voted? Tommy hypnotized Josh with The Snake Hips.

Our apologies to Adam Levine (and Maroons 1 through 4), but it’s time to relinquish the crown of sexiness. Last month, the musician and “The Voice” judge was deemed the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine, an honor that has been bestowed upon the likes of Brad Pitt, Channing Tatum and Jude Law in the past. Our readers (who hold the undisputed title of Sexiest Readers Alive, so they know what they’re talking about) begged to disagree.

So with all due respect to People, the people have spoken. The true Sexiest Man Alive is Tom Hiddleston. Bam, you got Loki’d.

In a reader poll, Hiddleston (most recently seen onscreen as the villainish trickster god Loki in “Thor: The Dark World”) captured an overwhelming majority, garnering more than 77 percent of the vote for a resounding victory. (Confidential message to runner-up Michael Fassbender: Michael, there’s no “Shame” in second place. Get it?)

Hiddleston’s virtues are many, from his British accent, his easy smile, and ability to really work some facial scruff, not to mention his charming personality and killer dance moves. And let’s talk sibling rivalries for a moment: Hiddleston delivered a whooping in the polls to his onscreen adopted brother, Chris Hemsworth, who captured just 4 percent of the vote. To add insult to injury, Hiddleston didn’t even have to take off his shirt in the “Thor” movies to make it happen.

Hiddleston will next be appearing in “Muppets Most Wanted” as The Great Escapo, as well in our hearts and nightly dreams.

[From MTV]

Whoa, Tommy got 77% of the vote? Yikes! I’m assuming that all of the Hiddles Tumblrs had direct links to the poll and that super-fans (Josh Horowitz!) were allowed to vote multiple times. Still, it’s good to see Fassbender on the list too. I feel like Fassy’s been MIA for so long, it’s nice to see him still get a mention here and there. And while Fassbender’s away… Jared Leto is totally stealing his thunder. I actually think Leto has a better chance at winning an Oscar than Fassbender, and that’s all due to Fassbender’s stupid insistence on “not campaigning.” You would never catch Tommy Hiddles “not campaigning.” Hell, Tommy campaigns for MTV Movie Awards. He campaigns for the “sexy” titles. He campaigns because he wants to be loved by every single person in the world. And his campaigns have finally paid off. Here you go, Tommy. You’ve earned this. You are the Sexiest.

    More like, hahaha!

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

+1. Come on…I could (begrudgingly) concede “cute” but “sexy”?
      Sorry, but no.

    • Mia4S says:

Look he’s cute, but are we really still pretending that Internet polls have anything to do with the real world? We’re not going to mention the voting bots or the small group of women who will sit there voting for hours because, well who knows! We’re still going to pretend? OK.

Here’s the question, what’s worse?; Levine’s publicist scoring with People or Hiddleston’s small group of crazies?

      • Secret Squirrel says:

77% of the vote! I think you underestimate the numbers and craziness of Hiddles’ fans!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Oh the Hiddles stanbase was definitely all over this one.

I just think the term “sexy” is a really particular thing for me-it’s primal, pure hotness. Like Momoa is sexy. Hiddles? No. Goofy and charming at times, but “sexy” should be reserved for the men that if you saw walking down the street, would make your panties spontaneously combust.

Cumby, Hiddles and The Pasty Brigade are guys that probably become attractive once you hear them talk, see them act, etc, but it shouldn’t take getting to know a guy to find them sexy.

      • Mia4S says:

I don’t think I’m underestimating at all for the same reason that “Supernatural” and “Teen Wolf” win every poll I see when they have about 20 times less viewers than an NCIS or the like. I’m fascinated by it. The crazies are REALLY crazy. 😉

      • Janeite says:

TheOriginalKitten, I respectfully disagree. There are men out there in the real world that I have not initially been attracted to but then came to find them extremely attractive once I knew them as people. It doesn’t say much about us as a gender if the only men we view as sexy are the ones we are attracted to only because of their looks. Just my two cents.

      • Tulip Garden says:

        @TOK
I am going to shamefacedly admit that Momoa brings the sexy. He’s dumb as a rock and as sexy as hell, thanks to Khal Drogo. BTW, I have never, never been able to admit this aloud amongst other women because ewwwwww, but yeah!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

@ Janeit-Oh I agree entirely about men in the real world. The sexiest guy I dated over the past few years was….not hot (and that’s being nice) but I wanted to bone him constantly.
But we’re not talking “real life” here, as none of us are likely to date any of these guys—-we’re talking FANTASY.

@Tulip-Khal Drogo baby! Don’t be ashamed, girl! 😉

      • Spooks says:

@TheOriginalKitten, well, I find The Pasty Brigade guys really hot – I did the first time I saw them, without knowing their personalities. Momoa and such over-bulked tanned guys leave me completely cold. To me, Tommy is much much sexier than Momoa.

      • Janeite says:

@TheOriginalKitten, That’s where we differ then because I feel the same way about fantasy unattainable men too. That’s not to say that I don’t find some celeb men attractive based purely on their looks. But there are others, like Hiddleston and Cumberbatch for instance, who have become attractive to me based on more than just their looks.

      • lunchcoma says:

TheOriginalKitten: I disagree completely! To me, “sexy” is all about those traits that go beyond physical appearance. When I’m just talking about looks, I’ll just use “pretty” and be done with it.

But I’m admittedly a huge fan of The Pasty Brigade, perhaps because I’m so terribly pasty myself.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I didn’t mean to use “pasty” as a negative-FTR, I’m pasty as HELL right now and I’m kind of loving it. No shame there.

As far as the other comments, I’m not gonna get into a semantical argument-pretty, sexy, hot, attractive, whatever. We all have our favorites. IMO, to name a man “sexiest”, it’s a requirement that he be a head-turner. That being said, there are plenty of unconventionally handsome men that I’m sexually attracted to, but Hiddles is not one of them.

      • Roberta says:

@Mia4S I’m trying to work out which is worse.

@Secret Squirrel Maybe not numbers as obsessive fans voting 10, 20 or more times. This award is made completely irrelevant by anyone being able to vote multiple times.

I sense a backlash in 1, 2, next year, when there’s no new films except the cameo in The Muppets (who I love btw).

    • Han says:

I so agree Kitten. Momoa is sexy. Tommy not so much. He is a bit of a puppy.

  2. Catherine Anne says:

He’s soooo much better then Adam. Well done Tom!

  3. feebee says:

Yeah, he’s very MTV friendly, so no surprise. However, he DID work for it. Like he works for everything, even if he doesn’t know specifics, he works hard just in case.

Now if only he’d take a role that required him putting on a bit of weight.

  4. Abby says:

The real question is how many times did TommyAnne vote for himself?? I am sure 25% of voting is from him only.

  5. V4Real says:

Not a bad choice depending on who else was on the list.

    • Anna says:

      If Hems – hell no.
Anyone else – count me in, Tommy!
      <3

    • Secret Squirrel says:

What bugs me is he is so not my type (dark hair+dark eyes = squirrel swoon) but I can’t resist those eyes.
The ballot was rigged for sure (3 out of 4 people voted for him – yah right) but I’m not offended he is at the top of the pile.

      • V4Real says:

“What bugs me is he is so not my type (dark hair+dark eyes = squirrel swoon)”

I see we have something in common; that’s exactly my type, even though dark hair with light eyes is sexy as hell too. Maybe that’s why I’m more attractive to Tom’s character Loki, than than Tom as himself.

As Anna said if Hems was on that list than hell no to Tom but I’m still not mad at the choice.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

If I can’t get dark hair+dark eyes, then dark hair+blue eyes is my next choice, so I totally got the “Loki” phenomenon. That said I cut my teeth on Tom in The Deep Blue Sea and War Horse and STILL got sucked in by those eyes (dammit).
Hemsworth is also hot so I would be fine with him being atop the list too.

      • LadySlippers says:

Oh Squirrel! I love you!!! *blows kisses*

I adored Tom in The Deep Blue Sea. Rachel too (and the man who played her hubby, Russell I think). In fact, this became my new favourite movie because it was such a work of art and it was simply sublime.

OTOH, I despised War Horse so we’ll differ there.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

I want Rachel’s hair from The Deep Blue Sea. I think she is beautiful!

  6. Nikki says:

Well deserved! No doubt this man is sexy–but people still forget that he’s also an AMAZING actor.

  7. Aims says:

That last picture sold me. I resisted but he won me over.

  8. starrywonder says:

Hmm he is sexy and I since most actors want to be loved and are narcissists in some way Hiddles constant love me, love me doesn’t bother me.

  9. Sixer says:

I would comment but my lips are sealed. Unlike the ballot boxes.

    (PS: Ian Waite 4 evah!)

  10. Janeite says:

I think the Tumblr peeps are probably almost completely responsible for this. They are crowing about it now, that’s for sure. And I suspect that Josh Horowitz is secretly on Tumblr and running a Tommy love blog.

  11. Lori says:

    The dragon flies are organised.

    • Miss M says:

You bet! But I think this was the work of Hiddlestoners. Dragonflies don’t go to MTV website to vote for it.

  12. betsy says:

Whenever I see Ian Waite on Strictly Come Dancing its Hiddleston to a T – even the campness

  13. don't kill me i'm french says:

semi-OT: i believe Fassbender ‘s working on a movie SLOW WEST in NewZeland (even if he was okay to campaign,it’s difficult when you must flight 15 hours )

    • MarilynGray says:

Fassbender’s been here in NZ for almost two months now, so I’m not sure how much longer he’s got to film for (as far as I’m aware it’s not all being filmed here but in the UK as well). I’m sure there would be time to campaign if he really wanted to, but I’m actually rather impressed that he’s declared he won’t. I know it’s not a popular choice with Kaiser, meaning there won’t be a bundle of red carpet appearances to drool over (and she’s not the only one bummed out by that ) but I rather like that he’s recognized the ridiculousness of the awards season and would prefer to just get on with the work. It may mean less of him on the red carpet, but more of him on the screen!

  14. Han says:

Hahaha!! Tommy is many things but sexy is not one of them.

  15. Violeta says:

I guess the best team effort should go to the tumblr fandom and other army he’s gathered within 2 years….

  16. Dawn says:

I can’t see it. I find him to be a talented actor but that is about it.

  17. Miss Jupitero says:

MTV allows users to vote as much and as often as they want, and Hiddlestoners are nothing if not well organized.

I am sure Luke was up until the wee hours pushing that button over and over.

This vote just makes it really, really obvious.

    • Janeite says:

It does. TH is definitely more well-known on the internet than in the real world. This MTV poll is yet another example of that.

    • MarilynGray says:

I was thinking the same thing, it wouldn’t have been Tom so much as it would have been Luke.

It would take a fair bit of egotism to sit there and vote for yourself that many times and Hiddles seems more the “please love me!” type rather than the “you MUST love me! ” type.

Luke on the other hand. …

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I can hear him preparing yet another MTV speech as we speak….

I doubt that he stuffed the ballot box for himself, but there are plenty of people who can and will do that for him, including the Tumblr crowd.

I don;t know why MTV makes this so easy. Other user polls limit to one vote per account or computer (though there are ways around this). It’s a programming thing.

A long time ago, we had a radio show that did a stunt where they had five people chained 24/7 to the DJ, and every day we had to vote off one person. The winner got 10k. A woman who needed the money for her sex reassignment surgery got on the chain, and campaigned through her various networks for people to vote in her favor. A small group of us campaigned heavily to make sure she got what she needed. I worked for a tech company and used every computer in the place.

      • Janeite says:

@MissJupitero, I love you for doing that. I have always been so happy being a girl but if I had been born as me into the body of a man, I can’t imagine the horror. Good for you.

      • Abby says:

hahhaa I am holding on to my popcorn on MTV night when Hiddles makes another Liam Payne’s dog has more followers on twitter than me

  18. mel says:

I like him but I don’t know about being the sexiest. I could endorse sexiest hands though.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

I LOVED his hands when he did that Cookie Monster “delayed gratification” clip. Sexy long fingers AND a chocolate chip cookie. Winning combination!!

  19. Shannon1972 says:

I can’t help myself. I usually don’t develop “celebrity crushes”, but this one has me hook, line and sinker. I just find him hopelessly charming, funny and kind of like an eager puppy. And who doesn’t love puppies? He does pleading puppy eyes so well.

Hating Hiddles = hating puppies. 😉

    • Simmie says:

Exactly! I used to not get what the Hiddles craze was about. I thought he was a good actor but wasn’t attracted to him. But after seeing a few interviews I was totally won over. He just radiates enthusiasm and joy. It’s adorable.

  20. FreeBunny says:

Some fan’s dedication is impressive and quite scary. I suppose that the other fandoms didn’t care much about the poll.

I’ve got a theory about that. I think that last year Cumberbatch could have win but today his fans are over that. Their guy is conquering Hollywood, he doesn’t need this kind of poll anymore to exist so they are not as dedicated as they were few years or few months ago.

    • Abby says:

I have been quite active on tumblr and honestly I have not seen any Cumby fans asking others to vote for any sexy poll. Even the empire magazine one where no fan campaigned others to vote non-stop….so the result of him being at the top was truly surprising to the entire fandom.

  21. T.fanty says:

The Josh Horowitz joke might be my favorite comment of the day. Mostly because it isn’t a joke.

    • Janeite says:

T.Fanty, are you talking about what I said about Horowitz having a Tumblr Tommy Love blog? I actually laughed out loud as I wrote that.

  22. Dizzle says:

Was Joseph Gordon-Levitt an option to vote for? BC if he wasn’t, stop the planet, I want off.

  23. nico says:

The MTV audience believed three times that Kristen Stewart gave the Best Female Performance of the Year.

    Enough said.

  24. Nene says:

SERIOUSLY I DON’T GET IT. REALLY.
He isn’t sexy like at all.
    Funny? Maybe.
Anyway I’ve always taken these awards with a pinch of salt so it doesn’t matter.

  25. MissThing says:

Tommy’s public persona is very sexy. His private one on the other hand, well it grows on you. However he is still a charmng rake. Even if the tumblr fans were out in force why not him enjoy the adoration. Given that the paparazzi are now hitting the Donmar I think he should get something out of all this craziness.

    • Janeite says:

Sounds like the craziness at the Donmar is under much better control now. Let’s hope it stays that way. In those JustJared pics, it seems like that security guy was keeping pretty close to him. That’s a good thing.

  26. Emily C. says:

The “sexiest person alive” things are all 100% stupid. Hiddleston happens to be exactly the type of guy I’d date, but so what? My taste is not the taste of all women — and I don’t think he’s sexier than, say, Idris Elba anyway. (Or Patrick Stewart. Or my husband.)

There is no objective measurement of “sexiness”.

There may, however, be an objective measurement of “ridiculousness”, and the attempts to stoke a Hiddleston fans vs. Cumberbatch fans war rate about a 9 out of 10 on that scale.

  27. lex says:

“that’s all due to Fassbender’s stupid insistence on “not campaigning.”

Why is it stupid? I see people get torn up on here due to the fact that they ARE campaigning and now because Fassy isn’t campaigning it’s “stupid” too?? Sheesh, seems like whatever you do you can’t win.

  28. CC says:

It’s kinda funny, and yea, the mega fans did their part, but well, better than a publicist-agreed SMA like People does. At last it was something that he wanted (just as much as Levine wanted SMA) but the fans also did. At least, if anything, Loki rocks, and Tommy himself is a nice person. And they never vote the for the sexiest man alive, we’d need a bunch of full body shots for that, clothed and unclothed (haha), they vote the one that’s most appealing to a large number of people. I’m not a megafan (and didn’t cast a single vote either way-didn’t even know of this contest) but I can dig this.

  29. Kelly says:

So he’s not Jax Teller, but I can stand behind this.
He’s not beautiful, rugged, perfect-looking or whatever people who prefer Hemsworth or Tatum or Fassbender want, but he is sexy. Especially when he’s acting, I find him wonderfully attractive in a unique, non-traditional way.

    • Skyfire says:

Not at all surprised that he won that poll with such a landslide! He deserves it! I can only assume that those who disagree don’t know much about him, or perhaps haven’t seen much of him outside of his performances. Physically speaking, while I find him stunning, I can see he might not be everyone’s type; so if you’re just basing it on looks, I guess I can see why some people are surprised. However, we mustn’t forget two very important things –

      1. There is so much more to sexiness than just looks.
      2. There is so much more to Tom Hiddleston than just looks

Tom Hiddleston is charming, witty, talented in so many areas, intelligent, funny, gregarious, thoughtful, educated, generous, enthusiastic, sophisticated, kind, sincere, unabashedly passionate about his interests, optimistic, cultured, energetic, inspiring, yet in spite of all that, so down-to-earth and humble. Cram all of that into a tall, well-shaped body (which he knows how to move!) with great hair, with those gorgeous blue eyes, that amazing, infectious smile, that soft, enchanting voice (and the accent doesn’t hurt)…

If he’s not the sexiest man alive, he’s at least the sexiest man I’ve ever seen. People make fun of his “fangirl army”, but he wouldn’t have one if that many women didn’t find him incredibly appealing, and inspired that kind of devotion. *shrug* If you don’t find him appealing, then its a case of “can’t please everybody”. He deserved to win – so I say YAY! 🙂

      • Froop says:

        You must be new.

      • Janeite says:

Froop, Froop, Froop…what are we going to do with you? 😉

      • MissThing says:

Well maybe she is one of his more recent bedpost notches… XD

      • Janeite says:

        Or maybe Luke? 😉

      • Froop says:

Were you talking about me? I’m definitely NOT a bedpost notch!

I giggle at these sort of deluded ramblings about him being a golden hearted perfect man. So kind, so cultured, so sincere and genuine, so this and so that. They’re hilarious and depressing in equal measure. He has the charm and that’s about it.

      • Janeite says:

Oh Lord no, Froop! Neither one of us was. My first comment was directed to you but then the ones after that were in regards to the possible newbie.

  30. lunchcoma says:

That is some hardcore stanning. I hope no one got carpal tunnel syndrome from all that clicking.

Thankfully, dragonflies are too dignified for such pursuits. I’ll just be over here fluttering and looking at the pretty Hiddles pictures.

    • Janeite says:

We are, aren’t we? I can say in all honesty that I was not even aware that this poll was going on. Nor have I ever even visited the MTV website. I didn’t see anything about it on Tumblr either but then I’m mostly looking for smutty Tommy stuff on there. So much for my dragonfly dignity.

      • MissThing says:

@Janeite would you believe that I do not read Tom smut? I can’t stand it actually. The entire concept really bothers me. I do love me some Loki smut though.

@Lunchcoma I will bet my right arm that there are plenty of Dragonflies here who are also closet Hiddlestoners but they will never admit it for fear of ridicule.

      • lunchcoma says:

MissThing: I see it’s time to pull out the No True Dragonfly fallacy then, because this level of stanning is too embarrassing to allow.

I find celeb fanfic to be terribly awkward, regardless of who’s involved. I always imagine what the people being written about would think. Character-based things at least have an amount of distance.

      • Janeite says:

@MissThing, Yes, I believe it! I don’t read the fanfic but I like some of the confessions. And I’m always on the lookout for pics I find sexy. Real person fanfic has always creeped me out since it presupposes so much of what someone is like in real life and that is way outside my personal comfort zone. And I’m perfectly willing to admit that I’m a Hiddlestoner in my own weird way. My near-ubiquitous presence on all recent TH threads here after I discovered him in The Hollow Crown should pretty much prove that.

      • Janeite says:

LOL, lunchcoma! We pretty much said exactly the same thing.

I am definitely not afraid to admit to going on Tumblr and scrolling through the TH tag. I’m not even sure why some would consider that a bad thing. If one likes the guy, it’s a good source of information/pic/links to interviews. Yeah, there is some strange and OTT stuff on there. But not everything there is uniformly awful. I have seen some really clever and funny things there.

      • MissThing says:

Well, I will admit as everyone here already knows, I was a pretty hardcore Tom fan once upon a time. I did the oohing and ahhing like all the rest. I bought the public image hook line and sinker (for a little while at least). These days things are different. I still adore him (in some ways) and am a huge fan of his acting but the nature of my fan adoration has changed.

I am a very observant person and some people (in the past) mistook that for a perverse fixation but take a trip through the tags on tumblr or read some of the other fan sites and it becomes very clear that there is a whole other level of obsession that I can’t even begin to contemplate. I suppose that makes me somewhere between being a “true dragonfly” and a “true hiddlestoner”

      • Janeite says:

I’m not so gullible as to believe that the PR that is put out there necessarily equates to the private person. Probably the biggest quibble I have with Tumblr is that most of the TH fans on there do seem to fall for it though. And that’s just fine if it makes them happy. As you have said in the past MissThing, people won’t believe the truth anyway if it doesn’t fit with the preconceived image they have of someone.

And yes, there is a whole other level of obsession out there and not just on Tumblr. A scroll through the Coriolanus hashtag on Twitter is enough to see that.

Maybe “Hiddlefly” is a good middle ground?

      • MissThing says:

        OOOOOH Hiddlefly. I like it!

    • Janeite says:

      Cool. Hiddlefly it is, then!

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Errrr, pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between a Hiddlestoner and a Dragonfly? (and where does Hiddlestoner come from?). I assumed they were just two different names to describe the same group of people. I don’t tumblr, tweet, facebook, instagram, smackface or whatever else is out there today so I really have no idea!

      • Janeite says:

@Secret Squirrel, sorry just seeing your post now. A “Hiddlestoner” is the nickname that some of the more, er, ardent fans have given themselves. For instance, a lot of the peeps on Tumblr refer to themselves that way. A “Dragonfly” is a nickname that was coined right here on CB for those who tend to post on the TH threads and are a bit less fervent in their Tommy love. It started due to a suit coat that TH wore in a fashion photo spread in a magazine that was embroidered with dragonflies. If you scroll back through TH threads for the past couple of months, you can read all about it. Not sure exactly of the date of the thread where the nick was created.

And on another note, if you have the time/are so inclined, it can be fun to have a Twitter a Facebook, a Tumblr blog etc. I have all three and even though I an not super active on any of them, it can be a good way to keep up with friends, family, or various pop culture doings.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Thanks for the clarification Janeite. Bit of a time difference issue for me so I tend to post later!
I would have put it around the other way (i.e. the “stoners” being more laid back about it and the “dragonflies” being the overly enthusiastic ones (after all, it is a only a freakin’ jacket for goodness sake but I can see devoted fans getting all in a tizzy about it!).

  31. I Choose Me says:

I’m a die hard Hiddleloonie so I can’t be mad at this even though it’s MTV and it’s obvious that… erm, what was I saying? Is distracted by the second picture and what’s in his pants.

  32. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

    YUCK.

  33. Mary-Rose says:

Ok I admit it. In a moment of boredom I looked on DL (I’ve never posted there in case of any lurkers) and they keep mentioning Annie Wilkes. Who the hell is that and why?

@missthing please tell us why you changed your mind about TommyAnne, not all of us would judge you.

    • Penny says:

I know who ‘Annie Wilkes’ is. She is Charlie something on twitter. I personally think she is harmless. She has met Tom numerous times and seen ‘Coriolanus’ numerous times too. I should never say anyone else is obsessed with TH since I am in pretty deep myself. However, I don’t see him as perfect in any way and I notice some things about him that kinda bother me. Still, he has that hold on me.

This crush has lasted for over a year but that is not long for me. I had a massive crush on Johnny Depp which lasted years and now that is completely gone.

    • Lucrezia says:

Annie Wilkes is the psychotic stalker baddie in the Steven King novel/movie Misery. She’s an obsessed fan who basically kidnaps an author and tortures him until he writes a sequel bringing back her favourite character.

From skimming datalounge, my understanding is: some fan tweeted something saying “Fewer fangirls in the audience this evening. More sophisticated theatre people”, and it ruffled some feathers because, if you’ve seen Coriolanus more than once (as implied by her tweet) and you have a fan-art gift to give to Tom (mentioned in another twitter post), then you are most definitely a fangirl yourself and shouldn’t be shading other fangirls. So now some people from datalounge are being nasty and nicknaming her Annie Wilkes to imply that she’s a creepy stalker.

      Make sense now?

      • Mary-Rose says:

Thank you @lucrezia and @penny. I have never seen her on twitter but from what I’ve read on DL she’s one of the cray cray obsessives. I don’t think she’s quite Annie Wilkes from you told me.
I don’t think it’s cool to keep harassing him. Some fans really let the team down

    • MissThing says:

@Mary-Rose, I both hate him and care about him. I know some of what he really is, what he has been through and despite it I found myself still wanting to associate with him. (until he abruptly decided we could no longer talk or “be friends” without any real explanation other than him saying “I’m bad for you.” Yet strangely he will pop up every few weeks and ask me if I “missed him”… The problem lies in how he treated me after his decision that we can’t be friends and how he allowed me to be treated by others later. There is a tiny part of me that keeps hoping that he will turn out to be a better person than he has acted like (with regards to me) but that hope grows dimmer every day. I almost don’t care if he reads this here and figures out who I am (what I have said here now would be very obvious to him). It’s not like I matter to him anyway, that much is obvious. The worst he can do is continue to pretend I never existed and deny all knowledge of any association with me.

      So there you have it.

      Shrug.

      • MissThing says:

If you are nice I might give up my tumblr URL. Nothing to see really but whatever, it’s a fairly new account.

      • Froop says:

Making posts like this makes the cogs turn and a million questions start squiggling out. Sorry I can’t help it.
What has he been through? Like, serious-serious stuff and you feel sorry for him?
Has he done awful things that make people immediately dissociate themselves from him?
And what ‘is’ he really? Like pretty much everything about him is fake? With regards to his personal persona I mean. I remember you saying he couldn’t tell the truth with a gun pointed to his head or something.
You guys were friends? Other people (his friends?) treated you badly?

‘I’m bad for you’ is such a pathetic line. Straight from a cheesy sitcom a la SATC.

      • Okay... says:

Pop up every few weeks on what? What platform are you two acquainted?

You realize that your claim to know this man intimately sounds a bit…nuts? Sorry, but yeah.

      • Janeite says:

@MissThing, in my experience if a guy says he’s bad for you he usually means it. But if someone continues to pop up after that, it is definitely sending conflicting signals. People are weird like that sometimes and they can’t always even tell you why they do the things they do. Usually they are just confused and don’t know what they want. Also, I tried to link to my own Tumblr URL but my comment is in moderation.

      • Ppp12 says:

Omg! MissThing…please don’t tease like that! I am super curious to hear EVERYTHING but I am also feeling ashamed that I am feeling curious about someone else’s private stuff 🙁

      • Mary-Rose says:

Well no actually. Apart from the many points that you’ve left out, you never mentioned why he sabotages all relationships. Don’t tell me all this time it’s because he’s a commitment phobe

      • MissThing says:

WTH. I left a huge long detailed reply and it seems to have gotten lost in moderation. Now you all think I’m making it up again. Argh.

@Mary-Rose the simple answer is yes he is a commitment-phobe but there is also a person he pines after endlessly (and stupidly I might add).

@Kate. Whatever, go away. Not my fault my long-winded explanation got stuck in moderation hell.

      • Janeite says:

One of my comments from last night never made it out of moderation hell either. People with commitment issues usually do tend to pine after one unattainable love interest. Gives them a convenient excuse for not getting involved with anyone new and/or if they do get involved, they usually end it by saying they are still in love with the unattainable one. Two guys I know right now do this.

      • MissThing says:

        Well short version:

I was a shoulder to cry on (so to speak). I heard many things I will not divulge because they are very personal. We spoke a lot on the phone. He is not a BAD person, he is a selfish person. Once he was done using me for emotional support he decided we could no longer associate with one another and cut me off completely. The only time he ever said anything to me in the last month or so was to make sure I am not saying anything that will “upset” this person he pines after. Oh and he likes to make a lot of talk and promises that he doesn’t keep.

      • Roberta says:

@MissT What do you think of the whole Arthy situation, do you think he used her as well? Because I get the strong impression he did.

      • Janeite says:

Thank you, Miss Thing. Sorry if you feel like you were used. The whole thing sounds unfortunate.

      • MissThing says:

@Janeite, the truly personal (and specific) things I won’t speak of, other things that may have been gossiped about before (here and elsewhere) on the other hand I consider fair game at this point.

@Roberta, we never spoke about Miss Arthy. I honestly haven’t a clue about what happened there but given what I do know about him, she was definitely a convenient booty call. I cannot even begin to guess at whether or not he was emotionally attached to her or not though it is possible after a fashion. He seems to grow attached to people very quickly and then runs away from it for various reasons.

The majority of our conversations revolved around himself, his exploits and another person that I still will not name (despite the fact that this person most definitely deserves the tabloids on their sorry ass)

If he is to be believed, yes he has a ‘little black book’ and yes he is all about the casual no strings hook-ups. I suppose a point in his favor is that he is very upfront about it being a casual thing and nothing more. There is a running joke that if he liked you, he might even make you breakfast before sending you along your way.

Beneath it all though he is very insecure and trusts almost no one. I suppose I am proving him right by commenting like this but then what does he expect when he treats people like he did me… I was a very loyal and sympathetic confidante and yet I got used and tossed aside when I was no longer useful to him in his ultimate goal of getting his ‘true love’ to come back to him (No I’m not talking about S.F. either.) Essentially I was being used as a mediator between them and got to hear some rather messed up things from both sides. In the end what I got for my troubles was him avoiding me completely now, and the other person sticking a knife so deep into my back I can see the tip sticking out of my chest.

I wonder what he will think when he hears I have been talking like this… I can only hope he realizes that it is only because of how he treated me (and he knows exactly what I am referring to) and had he been more of a man I might still be sitting quietly reading the gossip and giggling to myself about what was accurate and what wasn’t. C’est la vie I suppose.

      • Janeite says:

MissThing, what are the odds he will see this? I know there have been discussions before about whether or not he goes online to see things about himself. As you have said before, there really is no way to prove or disprove anything, so would it really matter to him that you talked about it here?

And anyone in the middle of a romantic conflict usually does wind up taking the blame if things don’t work out. It’s never a good place to be.

      • MissThing says:

You guys were right about him being the type to track himself online to some extent. He is all over Tumblr. I don’t know which gossip sites he tracks but it’s a fair bet he skims here as well as other places that he is prominently featured on. (When he has the time). Obviously right now it is less likely because he is so busy with Coriolanus but don’t underestimate the power of an exhibitionist to find time to look themselves up (trust me I know because I do it sometimes.)

      • Janeite says:

Well if he is all over Tumblr then his interview comment about social media giving a distorted reflection of oneself is certainly spot on. Because it’s pretty much the church of Tom Hiddleston over there. And yeah, most of it is benign so he would be right about that too.

And I doubt there is a person on the planet with access to the internet who has NOT looked themselves up at times. I’ve done it too.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Well nothing screams “I love you and I’m pining for you” quite like sleeping with other women. That’s sure to work…

@MissThing, You sound as though you don’t like the object of Tom’s affection saying that she deserves to have the tabloids on her @ss and that Tom is “stupidly” pining for her etc. Is she just not available to Tom (e.g. already in a relationship or married) or is she just not interested in him??

The woman that ends up with Tom (for more than a one night stand) will have to live with the reputation he is making for himself now which will be a hard task.

      • MissThing says:

It’s hard to like someone who professes to love a man but spent all of their time saying the most awful denigrating horrible things about him and treats him extremely poorly. You would be shocked at the some of the things I have been told about their interactions. To be fair he wasn’t exactly Mr. Dedicated and Faithful either…

      • Froop says:

Getting stuck in between people’s private relationships and acting as mediator is almost never a good idea.
Sounds like they’re both as bad as each other.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

@MissThing. I suggest you wash your hands of him and move on with your life. If his/their behavior is that bad, you should cut and run and find a real relationship. Allowing him to “pop up” in your life at will only prolongs the unhappiness you are voicing.

@Froop. I hear you loud and clear. I’ve been that middle person and ended up losing both friendships as a result. Won’t do that again!

    • Janeite says:

@Mary-Rose, I love you for admitting you did that! Looks like you got your question answered pretty well here. She seems harmless enough to me. Very devoted, but harmless.

      • Mary-Rose says:

@janeite I’m not going to write here what I make of MissThing’s story. But let’s just say I’d take it with a pinch of salt.

      • Janeite says:

Hi Mary-Rose, I was actually referring to the person on Twitter that came under fire on DL! As for MissThing, whether she chooses to talk or not, either way I’m not going to try to force the issue. I’m not going to ask her any questions about it either. Her life=her business. If she wants to spill here or elsewhere, that’s her prerogative.

      • Mary-Rose says:

Hi @janeite. I don’t really care anymore what MissThing says. Whatever happened its irreverent now.
I think the person on twitter is harmless as well but I think if she and some others don’t calm it down they might actually make TommyAnne not be so accommodating. He’s already starting to back away from twitter a bit.
Did you hear he met the director of Thor 2 last night? Must be a sign

      • Roberta says:

@MaryRose Joss Whedon was at last nights performance (unless Alan Taylor TDW director was there as well) and he’s a known Shakespeare nut, so not really surprising.

      • Janeite says:

Mary-Rose, I did read about that on Twitter. I know Whedon likes Shakespeare and I think he directed The Avengers, didn’t he? Cool that he was there.

And yeah, the Twitter girl does seem to like meeting TommyAnne, doesn’t she? I think she has seen Coriolanus 3 times already and it’s barely been on for a week. Well, security at the Donmar seems to be working and keeping things orderly so that’s good to know at least.

      • MissThing says:

If this Twitter girl has met him that many times and hasn’t managed to slip him her number (or he hasn’t bothered trying to hook up with her) then it will never happen. He isn’t shy about asking if he is even remotely interested (fan or not). Perhaps someone should tell the poor girl to take the hint lol.

      • Janeite says:

LOL, but her whole schtick with him is that she loves and respects him as an “artiste” and that her love is all purely for his craft. And even if he isn’t shy about asking, I would hope that common sense (or a self-preservation instinct) would make him refrain. I have a feeling just getting that one to go quietly away, with or without breakfast being made for her, would be a challenging undertaking.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

@Janeite. or when she did go, she would probably take half of his personal belongings with her, you know, because of the artistic integrity of his underwear drawer!

      • Janeite says:

@Secret Squirrel, hahahahahaha! That was hilarious!

  34. Penny says:

Well, yeah, this poll is stupid but yet it shows how out of touch print magazines are. I am referring the People mag’s crowning Adam Levine SMA. He must have one helluva a pr person. Again, these polls are meaningless since this topic is subjective. I know there are people out there who find Levine hot but personally he does nothing for me. Did Levine even make the cut according the the MTV poll?

Hiddleston on the other hand…dayum! Benedict Cumberbatch has really grown on me. At first I could not get past his face but now I understand.

  35. BackstageBitchy says:

Does no one else see how much TH looks like PeeWee Herman? I can’t NOT see it!

  36. Mary-Rose says:

It’s his big blue eyes which won that award. It has always been the big blue eyes for me. 😉

And there is nothing wrong with being a Hiddlesfly fangirl either! So there (pokes tongue out)

  37. pixie-stix says:

Ugh, enough already with MTV polls. I’m really hoping Coriolanus is successful. Was it @Mary-Rose who said she was going? I would love to read your take on it. I have NTLive tickets but that’s in Feb…

  38. browniecakes says:

I am a Hiddlwitz – someone who loves Hiddleston the way Horowitz loves Hiddleston.

  39. vvvoid says:

Shucks, he has the same sweet face as my high school sweetheart. With long hair they are sort of identical. Well, Greg was a fifty fifty blend of Hiddleston and Cobain. Anyway, I love Tom beyond words, even recently sat thru Thor 2 just for his scenes. Wtf btw, why don’t they just make a Loki film? Both Hiddlestons Loki and the Loki of mythology are infinitely more fascinating than Thor. Hemsworth is fine but a snooze placed next to Shakespeare worthy Tom Hiddleston.

    • Janeite says:

This Greg person sounds like he was all kinds of cute! And my favorite Hiddleston is Shakespeare Hiddleston too! I’ve never seen any of the Thor or Avengers movies. I know a little bit about the Norse mythology Loki but other than seeing pics and a few scenes on YouTube from the Marvel movies, that’s about it.

  40. Kate says:

Go home, MissThing. You’re full of it. (Again.)

  41. Mary-Rose says:

@MissThing have you been drinking or has this account been hacked because the only thing is new is the scarlet story.
Whoever you are you should be careful because if any of the people you have mentioned find out about your Fan fiction then it’s only your own fault.
Also I’m asking Celebitchy hosts to seriously read her posts from now because I’m officially calling BS on it.
    Too stupid to be true

    • Janeite says:

I don’t know what’s true and what’s not. But honestly, it doesn’t change my opinion of TH at all. I still like the guy. I’m sure he has faults and is far from perfect. Just like the rest of us. At any rate, MissThing’s account is finally out there, so to speak, so at least now we can all move on.

  42. jammypants says:

MissThing’s imposter can cook up better fanfiction.

    • MissThing says:

I told you my story would make bad fanfiction. Besides I don’t even care if you believe me or not. I know what is true and what isn’t. I also can tell when someone else’s stories about hookups with him are true or not in some cases but whatever heh. Let’s just say that my impostor had many many things wrong. Cookies N Creme on the other hand, while she may have been making things up, she was actually more believable in certain areas. I feel I must point out though that Tom very much adores children and has stated that one day he plans to have some when he feels it is time.

      • Janeite says:

Well, at the end of the day, as long as you can look yourself in the mirror and feel okay about things, that’s all that really matters. And for the sake of any future children and the mother of those children, I hope that the “right” time is not any time soon based on what you have said. He’s nowhere close to being ready for fatherhood.
I get the sense that you had a crush on this guy going in and then had all of your ideas about him badly shattered. I also get the feeling that you still are dealing with lingering feelings for him. Which makes sense considering that you referred to him as a charming rake. Bad boys like that are easy to fall for; not so easy to get over. I suspect he is probably well aware of the effect he has. Perhaps his telling you that he was bad for you was his way of letting you know that he knew how conflicted you were about him. Maybe breaking contact off abruptly was the equivalent of pulling the band-aid off fast so the pain doesn’t linger. If he suspected you had feelings for him it might have been his way of letting you go if he knew it was too hard for you to do it yourself.

      • MissThing says:

Of course I had the same crush we all get originally. Yes, learning about him was like a bucket of cold water being poured on me. However that was early on in our interactions. The rest was simply me offering myself as someone to talk to if needed. Little did I know what I was getting into in the long run. What was hurtful was the words of friendship and such, being used for emotional support and then being suddenly tossed off like yesterday’s news when I was no longer ‘useful’

Please don’t read more into what I say that what is explicitly stated.

      • Janeite says:

Being disappointed in a person, whether you had a crush on them or not, can result in the same feelings of hurt in the end. But thank you for the clarification. And as usual, there will be those who believe you and those who do not. Everyone will make up their own minds and since you have said you are fine with that, then I hope we can all just move on now. I wish you all the best, MissThing, and I’ve enjoyed chatting with you here since I found this site.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

@Janeite. I agree. I picked up the same sense of adoration followed by a heavy dose of reality once it turned out different to what was expected. Happens all the time right around the world so must be an inherited characteristic of men and women.

@MissThing. Please don’t take this as a slight as I offer you only empathy. A lot of women get burned by men saying one thing then doing another (and blaming it on “being bad” etc). The only difference here is that yours played out with a famous person. Doesn’t make it hurt any less. Some men can see a sympathetic sucker a mile off and have no qualms using them for their own egotistical purposes (and are genuinely surprised when the girl gets hurt at the end of it).

  43. Ava says:

Wow….the comments on this site are like no other…. People analyzing and commenting on a person in such depth it is really scary. The people on this site that don’t like the Tom seem to spend more time and effort than the people that do. Just wow…..do you people realize this is a real man? People really have a lot of time on their hands. I think the charity projects he is involved with are wonderful. Last time reading comments on this site……

    • Janeite says:

This is a gossip site. Were you not aware of that fact? Please spare us the scolding. If your sensibilities have indeed been offended by what you have read here, then I agree that it’s best you don’t come back.

    • Mary-Rose says:

      @ava agree and I’m a dragonfly.
@MissThing I wonder what Luke would say about your fan fiction? Maybe we should show him after all he would know what is true or not

      • MissThing says:

@Mary-Rose, “@missthing please tell us why you changed your mind about TommyAnne, not all of us would judge you.”

        ……………..

@Janeite and everyone else, you asked, I answered. Now I am done. I shall return to simply enjoying the eye-candy and silly comments. Also remember anyone anywhere else claiming to be me… isn’t me.

      • Janeite says:

@MissThing, yes you did. Thank you for that. Now let’s all PLEASE put an end to this and go back to being Dragonflies or Hiddlestoners or Hiddleflies.

Or Hiddlewitzes. Or however one would pluralize that. 🙂

  44. Kim says:

He may not be sexy as in “muscles” or classically handsome but definitely that NERD SEXY category like John Kransnski and Tom Hanks. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are a lot better in bed than their muscled brothers!
