I think all of the women in this post are poorly dressed, to varying degrees. Here’s Reese Witherspoon in Giambattista Valli, at the Independent Spirit Awards last night. I had to look through dozens of photos before I figured out that this is actually two pieces – it’s a weird wrap skirt and then what’s supposed to be a fun cropped top. The design and pattern fools the eye in a really awful way, making it seem like those horizontal bands are actually some kind of oversized belt, and the effect is that Reese’s waist looks huge and out-of-proportion. I mean, it’s the Spirit Awards so it’s not a huge deal, but look at her – she tried. She put some time into this ensemble. And it’s weird that she chose something so unflattering. One nice thing: I like her hair. It’s much better than the mom bangs she attempted at the Globes. PS… is Jim Toth wearing big, buckled pilgrim shoes with NO SOCKS?!

And here’s Paula Patton’s first big appearance since splitting with Robin Thicke. The message? It’s all sunshine and happiness post-split. Which isn’t the worst message from a newly single woman. I much prefer this rather than a newly single woman wandering around in all-black, looking like a widow. Paula’s dress is Lorena Sarbu. Is it too tight and too short? Of course. To be fair, that’s her style regardless of whether or not she’s looking for a man.

Zoe Kravitz in Balenciaga. Sigh. This is so awful. Zoe has an amazing figure, and this makes her look thick in her mid-section. The design also won’t let her raise her arms above half-mast and the whole thing is just twee and “immature.” Those black things are appliques, and I think they’re supposed to be flowers but they look like giant, dead flies. This really was one of the worst looks of the evening. I hate it. I also don’t understand why she’s doing a flat center part.
