“Girls Gone Wild” Head Facing Jail Time

Celebrity shagger (if Paris Hilton counts as a “celebrity”) and head of “Girls Gone Wild” Joe Francis has been ordered back to prison to serve time for contempt of court, after narrowly avoiding jail a few days ago.

Francis was originally going to serve time for contempt of court last week after shouting obscenities and threatening legal action against the lawyers for seven women who had taken him to court over a “Girls Gone Wild” tape made in 2003. He was let off the hook a few days ago, but now faces more contempt charges for making drastic changes to a court agreement.

U.S. District Judge Richard Smoak found Francis in contempt of court last week after lawyers for seven women complained he shouted obscenities and threatened them during civil suit settlement negotiations.

The women were filmed on Panama City Beach during spring break in 2003 for a Francis video. His videos generally show young women baring their breasts and acting out other sexual situations.

Smoak had ordered Francis arrested Saturday if he did not reach a settlement in the case but suspended the order after learning that Francis had made an offer the plaintiffs later agreed to.

Plaintiffs’ attorney D. Ross McCloy told the judge during an emergency hearing Wednesday that he thought the case was resolved but later learned Francis had altered the conditions of the offer, making it unacceptable to his clients.

A mediator said the new offer included a payment plan that wouldn’t be completed for many years.

“He may have snookered us and gotten out Saturday,” Smoak said, “but he’s coming back.”

I am not a Joe Francis lover at all. I know everyone is expecting me to say that I find the “Girls Gone Wild” videos disgusting– because I am a woman– and therefore I must believe Joe Francis is a disgusting male by association. I don’t judge people and what business they are in, and if he chooses to makes his money recording girls and their “spontaneous” sexual exploits their consent (I use the word spontaneous loosely, I’ve seen enough of the “Girls Gone Wild” videos at frat parties to know that they are anything but), then more power to him for making a lot money out of a frankly degrading industry that still is undoubtedly very profitable.

My problem with Francis is that he is the kind of guy who goes on satellite radio and declares Tara Reid a bad lay, and although I don’t really rate Tara Reid, I think a man who goes on a radio station that millions of people listen to and publicly embarrasses a woman like that for entertainment is slime. After reading that he cursed out the lawyers for the seven women filing suit against him and that he tried to manipulate the court system to suit his own needs, I am glad he is getting his comeuppance. It’s obvious he doesn’t respect the ladies–maybe spending some time with men in prison will teach him respect altogether.

Picture note from Celebitchy: Here are some NSFW pictures of Joe with then-girlfriend and then-flat chested Paris Hilton, found on the ParisExposed site, which I’m still convinced Francis was responsible for.

sorry, writer, but women SHOULD have a problem with this. It’s evident of social brainwashing when they don’t. PLEASE READ FEMALE CHAUVINIST PIGS. Sucks when women play for the other team, but then again, blacks have been uncle toms for years. Just ask Colin and Condy. Women suck as much as men so.

I have a problem with Joe Francis because he’s a douche, but I don’t have a problem ith porn or with softcore boob flashing. I don’t personally agree with that career choice, but I’m a Camille Paglia feminist and do not fault someone for it. If women want to do porn or make out with their friends to get their 15 minutes that’s their right. Again, I’m not advocating it or saying it’s not stupid, just that there’s nothing uncle tom-ish about a woman saying that it’s someone else’s business whether they let someone film them having sex and get paid for it.

I’d love it if ONLY women made money from exploiting female sexuality. No men. That’s the future of feminism because exploiting female sexuality is never going to leave as long as there are men. So work it ladies….and stick it to the pimp.

  4. totalbullshit says:

No way, women exploiting women and themselves is fucking sad. What I was saying before: there are some men (few) who are more feminist than a lot of brainwashed women these days who think flashing is empowerment. There’s more at stake than fucking dollars, trillion. What bullshit. Typical of women, period, to say “none of my business” and fucking not take a stand at all. It IS. Those women just increase the rape and abuse statistics for ALL as their media fucking conditions society (proven). I’m not anti-sex or anti-naked even, but for christ’s sakes, this new wave of feminism just ISN’T. once again, read FCP.

girls gone wild was interesting for the first 30 seconds and then it’s just boring. Who watches that crap????

I dunno. I see both sides of the issue. I believe that as long as you are a legal adult, you can do what you want, which doesn’t mean I have to like it. But, all this porn-y flashing of ladyparts from inebriated girls with poor judgement and obvious daddy issues isn’t good either. I do believe that is does influence young girls and women to think that this is somhow okay and a normal part of a par-tay.

I did read the article about the rapes, and I do think he did it, which is really a separate issue. He should go down for that.

What I really think we should do is personally and collectively find ways to empower young women (and I mean real empowerment, not the kind touted by Jenna Jameson. Making money alone isn’t empowering if you lose your dignity.) so that slimebags like this can’t make a living.

  8. DogRunner says:

Wasn’t Joe Francis also the FAT guy in Paris Hilton’s photo collection with cocaine all over his chest?

I think he is exploiting young women who are probably drunk in most of these videos. These girls also think they are going to get a shot at being discovered and becoming famous (Playboy, modeling, acting, etc…)

He makes his money by denigrating women and is an obvious mysogynist with his repeated rapes.

I hope he goes to jail and rots. What a scumbag.

  11. Randi says:

I have to agree with totalbullshit. I am always sadly amused at women who think flashing is empowering. I certainly don’t advocate burkas, but flashing is one pseudo step forward for feminism and more than two steps backward.

Oh yeah, and Joe Francis is a waste of skin.

Thanks guys – You all give me hope. lol! So true, Randi, MaiGirl, Fabiola Thing, Dogrunner, etc. and thanks for the rape article reference – I’ll be sure to check it out.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S SAD? SO MANY “BEAUTIFUL”, “TALENTED” ACTRESSES SUFFER FROM THE SAME TERRIBLE LOW SELF-ESTEEM.

    Patriarchy sucks.

The more society condones this sort of thing, the worse our world gets. End of story.
