Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera at the Met Gala: gorgeous or floral nightmare?

Emmy Rossum’s fashion can be somewhat hit or miss. She looked pretty banging at last year’s Met Gala, when she was in Donna Karan for the “punk” theme. Emmy was on-point this year in floral Carolina Herrera. This is a gorgeous gown in a very classic cut and retro print. She wears it well. I really like this gown for this event and her styling is spot on. I’m impressed.

Colin Firth’s lady Livia Giuggioli also went for glamour in red Carolina Herrera. She was one of many women in red. This is another gown that fits the night to a T. Look at her amazing necklace and elegant black gloves. So pretty.

Livia tweeted this photo of herself cozying up to Benedict Cumberbatch at dinner last last. A lucky bitch on many levels.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and his girlfriend, Sari Mercer, were another handsome British couple at the Met. Sari’s floral Dolce & Gabanna dress is just too much, though. I thought this monstrosity was Givenchy. There’s too much going on with all the floral appliques, the flouncy details all over and the pale peach color. Who styled her with that horrible satin matching purse? I feel sorry for Sari, but only a little bit because she still gets to go home with Chiwetel.

Solange was also in peach, in a 3.1 Phillip Lim gown that didn’t know whether it wanted to be a flapper or a ball gown. It’s like two different styles tried to have a baby. There’s too much gathered fabric. Maybe this dress is a triumph in that it’s difficult to execute. It sure looks complicated enough, but it’s not flattering. Her hair and makeup are well done though.

Here she is with the designer.

This dress is even worse with the jacket.

    Drapery, lily ponds and pumpkins.

  2. LadyRay says:

It’s official. Everyone was smoking crack last night. It’s good to know even celebs can look like sht.

  3. magpie says:

Emmy was one, if not the best.

  4. Tatjana says:

Emmy looks really good. She’s one of the rare women who look better without than with makeup.

Boyonce and Solange look very similar, yet Solange is so cool and unique, and Beyonce is so so not.

    • lucy2 says:

I agree – I like Emmy’s dress, but she’s so pretty on Shameless without makeup, and she’s wearing so much here she looks like a different person.

  5. kimber says:

Lived emmy’s dress, but to me the make up wasnt right.

    • poppy says:

the yellow was perfect on her but ITA the lipstick was way too harsh.
and her top -THIS is how you do strapless. not boobs squashed and bulging out.
i do wish the floral had been smaller scaled or more muted.

      • Tig says:

You are so right re the correct fit for strapless! And that is also why it’s such a hard style for most to wear! I wish 99% of today’s brides would take note!

    • BooBooLaRue says:

Yup love the dress, but she always wears harsh makeup and looks so frozen and smug.

  6. justme says:

I’m just glad to see some men in “white tie” — good for you Colin, Benedict, Philip – and Chiwetel – you look good, but you really should have had tails, but you are forgiven!

    • V4Real says:

Chiwetel looks good but what is that God awful mess his girlfriend is wearing?

      • Kiddo says:

        It’s a lily pond.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Is that the worst dress of the night?
        Worse than Lupita?
I don’t know…I think it’s harder to pick the best dresses than the worst. There’s just so much bad.

      • Kiddo says:

SO much ugly, so little time.

      • ichsi says:

Bahahaha it really is a lilly pond. And yes, no pity for her, she gets to kiss that teddy face. *grumbles-enviously*

As for Emmy, I’ve seen pics where the dress’ colour did her teint absolutely no favour. She looks fine here though.

  7. Mia4S says:

Yah! Chiwetel finally shaved that awful beard and looks great! His girlfriend’s dress though? Yikes.

Of course only Cumberbatch and the British boys really pulled off white tie! Of course! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. QQ says:

Livia’s dress… Just no!! What is that wrinkle-if-you breath fabric… And the color? :/

Chiwetel’s lady looked pretty fug doily as well!

  9. Little M says:

The Met Gala: Where couture goes to die.

Give me some of the fabric so I can make myself something prettier than any of the hideous things the ladys are wearing!!

  10. Whitney says:

I think Emmy’s dress is really pretty. No comment on the others.

  11. capepopsie says:

Hopefully Solange looses the jacket! (Blue Ivy can get it to play with) Maybe the dress would become a gown if the “frill” part was lower and the bodice different?

Sari looks like she stepped out of a Clint Eastwood movie, back in the day. I Think itยดs the purse that does it, though.

  12. eliza says:

Wow. Terrible gowns/dresses all the way around. Those hideous black gloves need to be burned.

  13. Solange looks like she’s swimming in fabric–if it had been taken in more, been more fitted, it wouldn’t have been as bad. And made the jacket at half the length.

  14. poppy says:

that orange dress is making me depressed.
    ๐Ÿ™

  15. polyphonic pickles says:

Solange’s clutch looks like a bag of chips to me. She certainly has enough fabric to use part of it like a napkin.

  16. faun says:

    Colin Firth is looking BAD.

  17. paola says:

    WORST DRESSED:
Solange Knowles. Not everything looks good on you.
Kate Upton. D&G are clearly trolling her.
    Rita Ora. Seriously..get a mirror
Anna Wintour: for me it’s a no. That’s all

  18. Mrs.Darcy says:

I like Emmy’s dress, it’s a bit garish print wise but I love the fit. Solange yikes.

  19. Nanea says:

I like Emmy’s dress a lot. My Mom had one like this in the fifties that ended slightly below the knee, and the flowers were smaller. It’s still around somewhere, I need to go look for it.

Had Solange’s dress been floor-length, I would have liked it.

  20. I Choose Me says:

Um… *scratches head in wonder at all of the fuggery*

  21. Heather says:

LOVED Emmy’s CH dress! It would look great on SJP, too.

  22. mj says:

I cannot with Emmy Rossum. I’m totally with Lainey on that one.

    • Jessica says:

I can’t with her either. And her dress is awful. But why is Lainey now in love with Emmy’s pal Lisa Olivia Munn? Does anyone know? Because I can’t figure it out. She really didn’t have much to say about her breakup with Joel. If it had been almost any other couple she would’ve questioned the suspicious timing of it. But with them – no snark at all.

  23. Kosmos says:

When I saw this dress on Sari, my first thought would be to get it off !! Horrible, silly and I just hate all of those flower clusters, the high neckline and the ugly sleeves, arrrrggghhh. Emily Rossum’s dress fits her well, but the flowered print reminds me of a daytime summer event, not the MET, sorry…..okay, I just don’t like the bright Orange dress either along with black gloves. She could look stunning in something else, better fitting. Solange’s dress color is great, and then I looked down at the full bottom. It’s an edgy look, not bad, but then I saw the cloak or the matching coat, and NO…..!!
