Princesses Eugenie & Beatrice looked really great the Serpentine Gallery party

As Bedhead already covered a little bit, last night was the annual summer party for the Serpentine Gallery. Every year, they get a pretty good turnout, and I’m actually a little bit sad (not really) that Benedict Cumberbatch is working in Boston, because he usually attends. That’s the kind of event this is – they get decent British celebrities and fashion people, and the occasional Yank, like Bradley Cooper.

I’m including photos of Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, Cara Delevingne, Keira Knightley (and her husband James Righton), Orlando Bloom, Alexa Chung and Lily Allen (who goes to the opening of an envelope these days – she’s at every single event in London). Random thoughts… I like that Keira and James do red carpets together, they’re not the kind of couple who feels the need to “hide” or play games. I hate Alexa’s dress. Lily Allen needs to put away her famewhore for two seconds because she really wasn’t joking about wanting to be famous again just to go to all the parties. Cara Delevingne is forever Angry Baby.

And here are some thoughts about the York princesses… I think they’re both looking great these days, especially Eugenie. That haircut really suits her. They’ve come into their own, and I would love to see them take on even more royal responsibilities in the coming years. I would love it if their charitable and official work outshone the Cambridges. But most of all, I’m so pleased and proud of them that they haven’t ended up as hot messes like their parents.

I guess I’m alone in this but . . . .they bug me. I can’t put my finger on it but they do.

    • Jegede says:

Me too – to be honest

    • DCJ says:

You are not alone. I think Beatrice is a total lay-about that will go to the opening of an envelope. Same for her boyfriend. She is like the royal version of Rumer Willis to me. Desperate to coast by on family connections.

    • Megan says:

They live off their father’s largess every bit as much as the Cambridges. I thought they had full-time jobs, but given the number of daytime events, parties, and late nights at the Chiltern Firehouse, it doesn’t seem that they do.

      • dena says:

The difference, I think, is that there are NO expectations that emanate from Beatrice’s and Eugenie’s birth positions–which are basically sponge positions. So, if they choose to dabble in work (paid opportunities), faux jobs (relatively high profile positions gotten thru connections) or charitable work (representation or volunteerism), it’s all to the good.

On the other hand, William’s position and that of his wife’s come with nothing but expectations and obligations. In this case, it is true that for whom much is given much is expected.

Perhaps in aristocratic circles, William and Kate are middling to above average where accomplishments and expectations go but in terms of real life, as 32-year olds, they are particularly uninspiring and not very accomplished.

      Eugenie… crazy eyes !!!

      • Mel M says:

I think you mean Beatrice, and yes her eyes always look crazy. She doesn’t look real to me sometimes.

      • notasugarhere says:

Beatrice looks a great deal like Queen Victoria. Blame the Hanoverian ancestors.

    • Zigggy says:

      Agreed.

    • Sharon Lea says:

I know what you mean, I prefer Zara who does her own thing. But then again, she had Anne for a mother who is more of a no-nonsense kind of gal. Poor Beatrice and Eugenie had Fergie, and Andrew, who are rather work shy. The 20s are a time of figuring things out, let’s see what they do in the next few years.

      • notasugarhere says:

I really like Zara, but let’s not ignore the fact that Zara and Peter live off of their mother. Gatcombe Park was purchased for Princess Anne (either by the Queen or “the Crown”, it isn’t immediately clear). Zara and Peter, plus their families, all live at Gatcombe and benefit from Anne’s taxpayer paid security. I think that is part of the reason that Zara and Mike sold their house and moved to GP – the on-site security detail.

They can’t take on more Royal Responsibilities, they aren’t working Royals. And if Charles has his way-they will stay that way. Any charity appearances they make are on their own time.

    • Nancito says:

I remember reading, a few years ago, that their father Prince Andrew wanted them to be working royals but the Palace nixed that idea because of their mother, Fergie. At that time Fergie was embroiled in one of her money-grab scandals – maybe the one where she claimed that she was selling access to Prince Andrew.

      • T.C. says:

Why do they have to suffer for the sins of their mother? That’s not right.

      • Deedee says:

I thought Charles was paring down the size of the working Royal Family to keep expenses down. It had to do with having more surviving heirs to the throne and so on. If so, Willnot and Kannot will need to step it up or there will be many unhappy charities.

      • MollyB says:

It seems harsh but I think Charles is right. When people express interest in the Royals, it’s really in the line of succession. People are more interested in Queen-Charles-Will-Kate-George-Harry than in the daughters of a younger brother.

      • Sharon Lea says:

But I also remember reading Prince Charles asked Andrew to work with him and Andrew refused.

“Indeed, when Andrew left the Royal Navy in 2001, the Prince of Wales wanted him to come and work closely with him as an aide.

Such a move would have given Prince Andrew a permanent role of significance in royal life, but he chose instead to become a trade envoy for Britain.”

    • ickythump says:

Just wot I was going to say – they dont perform any royal duties – they spend their time enjoying their lavish privileged lifestyle without giving anything back to th british public who support them

      • notasugarhere says:

They are not supported by the taxpayers. Any charity work they do is on their own time.

  3. kri says:

Not feeling anyone here very much, tbh. Good to see Orlando out of his radiant orchid ladypants, tho.

  4. The Original Mia says:

The Yorks look very pretty! Charles needs to wise up. He can’t force the Lamebridges to do any more than they want to do. If Beatrice & Eugenie are willing to work, then let them be full time royals until William & Kate deign to do it.

Hate Kiera’s dress. It’s a whole lotta WTF?

  5. Hannah says:

In a lot of pictures Keira’s dress makes her look like she has no legs and/or is levitating. That weird tulle thing at the bottom is hideous, which is a shame because I really like the dress in general, it’s quite funky in a sophisticated, Chanel-y kind of way.

    I like Eugenie’s hair, too!

  6. JJ says:

don’t you think that delevingne just looks like a busted lookalike for 80’s icon Margeaux Hemingway?? That’s what I always think when I see her…one of the Hemingway sisters…I think more like Margeaux though…

    • T.C. says:

Agree. Still don’t get how she is a supermodel being so plain and bratty looking. Then again never got Kate Moss’ appeal either. Bar tends to be lowered for some “models”.

      • Dan says:

She is NOT a supermodel. Those no longer exist. It was all ruined when Tyra
        Banka started calling herself one.

  7. minxx says:

They both look like they’ve got a new stylist. Love the dresses, the hair, accessories, makeup.. Eugenie’s look is particularly nice. Lovely hair.

  8. Altariel says:

Yes, everything Kaiser said in the last paragraph about the princesses x10 ! ! They are good girls who seem to want to work. Eugenie looks fabulous! I’ve been waiting for these girls to shine. It’d be great to see them even more out and about….we don’t only need to see Kate all the time, well here in the States, we see the Cambridges the most.

  9. aquarius64 says:

Unimpressed with these girls. The York princesses are sixth and seventh in line to the British throne. Unless there’s an outbreak HM will not be in front of either name. That rule the queen imposed that the future queens consort have to curtsy to these two because they have “royal blood” is ridiculous to me. By being a future queen you outrank them. Dollar bet Charles (or William) will change that curtsy rule once they take the throne. They want their wives publicly respected.

    • Jackson says:

Agree with all of this, as well as with the top poster. These two bug me for whatever reason. I think they get a lot of oohs and ahhs sometimes solely because people want to pit them vs Kate.

    • Dame Snarkweek says:

      Bingo.

    • Dan says:

It makes total sense. Being born as princesses definitely outranks someone who just marries in. And ‘future queen’ is not yet a queen. She very likely wont be queen for a very long time.

    • notasugarhere says:

@aquarius64. The Order of Precedence wasn’t put in place because of Kate Middleton, in case you weren’t sure. I think it was also changed during Diana and Sarah’s time when Princess Anne was made The Princess Royal. It was updated again after Charles and Camilla married too.

It is royal protocol, not (necessary) a personal statement or one related to respect on HM’s part. Middleton married into the BRF, and that is the protocol. If W&K don’t like the protocol as it has been for decades, they can lump it until if/when William is king (unlikely at this point).

  10. Altariel says:

Is Keira’s dress what they call “fashion forward’? Better for runways than actual use? Would Heidi Klum love or hate? Can’t tell, lol.

  11. Altariel says:

Orly looks good….maybe because he’s wearing a suit very similar to a blue one Hiddle’s has worn 😉

  12. Vee says:

Eugenie and Beatrice look fantastic. With that said, Eugenie needs a better bra. Her girls are sagging and she’s too young for that.

    • Altariel says:

Yes, there’s that! Their stylists need to polish off those last few tweaks when it comes to their appearances.

  13. Gonzalez says:

Big whoop. And like the Willis girls, they’re not easy to look at, either.

Then again, I think Posh and Delevingne are lovely. I’d really like to see less shit-eating grins on celebrities, not more.

  14. Ice Queen says:

I like those girls, they seem really sweet and I like it that they don’t always look “perfect”.

  15. jasmine says:

OMG I seriously thought that was Monica Lewinsky!! When did Eugenie morph into her?
