Lana Del Rey cancels European tour dates but keeps her social life intact

On Friday, Lana Del Rey was papped in NYC making out with her boyfriend (Francesco Carrozzini) at a patio restaurant table. On Saturday, James Franco also Instagrammed a photo of himself with Lana at Coney Island. It must be a new picture because of the shaved Franco head.

Lana has talked before about a mysterious “medical anomaly. She “just feels really sick a lot of the time and can’t figure out why.” Lana described performing in Ireland where the audience cared about her, but she didn’t care about herself. Lana must be feeling ill again because she’s cancelled her upcoming European appearances for medical reasons:

[Lana Del Rey] cancelled two private concerts for Virgin Radio listeners in Paris a matter of days ago, and has been forced to do the same here due to an ongoing mystery illness.

Radio 1 said they hoped to reschedule for later in the year.

Virgin Radio reportedly planned a boycott of the artist after the disappointing news in Paris.

“For medical reasons independent of our will, the artist has been forced to cancel all promotional activities planned in Europe over the coming days,” the Polydor/Universal Music label said in a statement.

The brunette beauty was supposed to perform on Sunday after first canceling the concert in August due to sickness, but according to The Nation – she only gave fans two hours notice this time round.

Virgin Radio said in a statement it “disapproves of this total lack of respect for the fans and is removing Lana Del Rey from its playlist.”

The star has been absent from social media for several weeks too, giving no explanation for her sudden sickness.

[From The Mirror]

The Mirror didn’t check thoroughly enough for Lana’s whereabouts. I detailed that much at the beginning of this post. This is actually the second time that Lana has cancelled these Parisian gigs. She was due to perform on Sunday and backed out two hours before her show started. Now Virgin Radio refuses to play her music.

I’m not saying that Lana isn’t sick. She may be suffering from something that specifically affects her voice, or which comes and goes. But she has expressed in several interviews how she no longer wants to be famous. She doesn’t want to keep being a pop star. Lana seems really depressed. I hope she gets help for whatever is ailing her.

She sounds legitimately depressed – which is a medical condition that calls for a lessening of stress and an increase in social contact. She could be obeying doctor’s orders here.

  2. Jules says:

You mean people actually paid money to see her??????

    • TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

SHe is terrible live – she shows what massive marketing and no taste can accomplish; has anyone a recording of her actual unedited singing voice. As people on this blog say, she gives manufactured a bad name since everyone here knows her real back story.
Compare this idiot to a real band like Pearl Jam have seen them many times, my son and friends saw them this year – 3 hour plus live show no stage gimmicks.
      I can’t believe she is still around;
Look at it this way she is the same age as Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix when they passed – and look at the talent differential, and influence through the decades.

I’m depressed, wish I could stop working

    • Santolina says:

Maybe her job is making her depressed. In which case, she should hang up her “poor, reluctant pop star” microphone and give us all a break, ‘cuz it’s getting old.

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I don’t buy her whole act.

    • doofus says:

yeah, me neither. I think it’s all an affectation for her “art”. and those eyelashes in the bottom photo are ridiculous.

of course, if I’m wrong, and she’s clinically depressed, then I feel bad for her and hope she gets help. I don’t like her much but depression is no joke.

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

      Yeah, I don’t either.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

I agree with you, this woman is such a no talent poseur.

  5. Ninja, please says:

It’s all an act. The PR hack must have written this article.

  6. gobo says:

It’s weird. It’s like she wants all of the privileges which come with fame without the work or effort.

  7. acidburn says:

Oh, pplease….these comments about whether she’s worth it or not a getting really tired. Let the woman be, ffs. If you dont dig her sound, that’s fine. But, whenever we have posts here about her, there’s always someone to point out how shitty they think whe is.

The news here is about her condition, not the state of her music or whether she must be listened to or not.

I think she might be depressed. And the thing about depression is that life becomes pretty meaningless, especially when it comes to do your obligations. I dont think what she did was right, but i understand. Sometimes, depression comes with panic attacks and i’ve seen around internet that her fans are always camped outside her house in ny. Can u imagine that? Maybe what she really need is just some rest and enjoy other things in life besides work. It works sometimes as the best way to recover from bad stuff.

    • Erinn says:

      Here’s the thing.
Generally people who are depressed don’t go around saying in interviews how they wish they were dead, and how miserable they are. From my personal experience, depression isn’t something you advertise to the world. More often than not, people keep it to themselves. With Lana, it seemed like an act to garner attention.

If she really is depressed, I certainly hope she gets the help she needs. It’s a horrible feeling.

At the same time though – there is no excuse to cancel a show 2 hours before it’s supposed to start unless you’ve been brought to the hospital or something. Think of how many people travel hours to see shows – it’s a long way to go to find out two hours before that you traveled for nothing. Lana has more than enough means to just stop. She could cancel her tours, she could cancel everything and find something else that makes her happy. However, here I sit in my cubicle, on another low depression wise, with the worst migraine I think I’ve ever had, because I have no other choice but to work through it. I have bills to pay, and responsibilities to meet.

      • acidburn says:

I know what it feels like. I have been struggling with depression for 12 years. It sucks the hell of our life…and i tell nobody because people generally dont understand it. There are days which we just wish we could stay under the sheets, which i had to do, because i also got anxiety crisis. Like i said, i dont agree with her decision, but if what she really is going thru is depression – it sounds like, i get her.

I hope u get better there! Stay strong!

    • Skittles4Marshawn says:

Agreed! People are acting like they’re forced to comment on this even though they have no clue what’s going on — but if they *knew* she was depressed or suffering from something, they say of COURSE they’d have sympathy. We don’t know, we can’t know, let’s move on.

  8. jane16 says:

There’s a blind item that sounds like her that says she is going to rehab.

  9. Sushi says:

Does she eat sushi? Drink unfiltered water? Use toxic cosmetics? She needs to get checked out by a naturopath. A lot of these modern afflictions, I swear, are due to chem exposure. I had a friend who had chronic fatigue and was down a lot, emotionally speaking. When she cut out the chems (after seeing a naturopath) she improved 1000%. Eat organic and cut back on the synthetic beauty products etc. No kidding.

  10. Mrs. Darcy says:

I like her music but no way would I pay money to go see her, she is just not a compelling live performer, she’s kind of a vacuum of emptiness on stage. Whether it’s a schtick or not it does nothing for me.

  11. Reader says:

Sounds like low-level radiation sickness. Started in 2012, the year following Fukushima. Frequent flying will expose her to the elevated levels found higher up. I wish people would stop blaming everything on depression.
