Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson brought the ‘Zoolander’ blue steel to Paris

Paris Fashion week has been all about pap walks, ill-advised peroxide jobs and photobombs. So it’s a pleasure to see a set of not-so-fresh faces on the runway. Some serious fashion. Blue Steel, if you will.

Derek Zoolander and “Hansel, so hot right now. Hansel.” made a surprise visit to the Valentino show. Their fierce stances and duckfaces ushered in an aura of hushed respect from the audience. Or perhaps people were trying not to laugh. Does it matter? You can see their runway walk in this video.

Really, this was simply a visit from Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson to announce their mutual career returns with Zoolander 2. Is anyone excited for this sequel? I don’t know. Twitter lit up with the #valentino tag when Zoolander and Hansel hit the runway. They posed with Anna Wintour backstage (for Mario Testino) and made a selfie-stick video backstage. Anna Wintour smiled. Be afraid.

You’d better work it, boys.

I love Zoolander so much. It’s all very dumb humor but it’s too funny. I especially love the part where Will Farrell freaks out and says he’s taking crazy pills.

I hope the sequel lives up to the original.

  2. Katie says:

I’m 50/50 on this. I love Zoolander and I want to see a good sequel. But, Ben Stiller has a habit of taking the joke too far and it could be really horrible

  3. Josephine says:

Such a welcome break from the coverage of the crass “celebs” that dominated the coverage from fashion week. This was the only decent thing to come out of Paris fashion week – these fashion weeks have become nothing but tabloid garbage.

  4. Lucy2 says:

I thought this was hilarious, and good for Valentino allowing them to do it.
I love the movie, and hope the sequel is good.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Really cute. I love the movie, too.

    • Kiki04 says:

Agreed! Loved seeing them on the runway, gotta give props to Valentino for going along with it. Hoping the sequel is just as awesome as the first one.

  5. mia girl says:

I REALLY want to believe the sequel will be great. I loved the first one so much.

    • Laura says:

I AM SO EXCITED!!! I love the first one and have high hopes for the second. Please be awesome!!

  6. Lilacflowers says:

    What? No beige booty shorts?

Stiller has butterflies on his coat. Is he trying to compete with the Lord of the Dragonflies?

  7. Beth says:

Ben Stiller’s not bringing the MAGNUM.

This sequel had better be as fantabulous as the first one.

  8. Sos101 says:

I love that they posed as three wise monkeys with Wintour. I wonder if she even realized how they were posing or if they just used her sunglasses as an impromptu prop.

  9. Shambles says:

I need to know that Will Ferrell is coming back as Mugatu. He invented the piano key necktie. Not watching without Mugatu.

    • Hautie says:

Not only do I need to see Mugatu… I am going to need to see that little dog of his too! With the matching hair-do’s!

    • lucy2 says:

Mugatu is a must. I can’t imagine them doing it without him.
I hope David Bowie is back too. And Skarsgard, somehow, despite poor Meekus’ demise.

It’s odd, I usually get annoyed with all the sequels and stuff, but I’m oddly excited about this one.

  10. GlimmerBunny says:

I’m sooo excited! Zoolander is one of the funniest films of all time.

  11. amanda says:

I don’t mind that there will be a 2nd one, I think it’ll be watchable (but just once, and rented).

What really blow me away is that Wintour and Valentino would agree to be a part of this…is Stiller deep in the fashion world and I don’t know about it?

Why would they deign to go this ‘low’ by helping promote a comedy?

Honestly, I never expected this sort of publicity/cross-promotion, especially at a fashion week. Fashion people seem to take themselves and their world so seriously and seemed not to care that they lived in a fantasy world most of us will never be a part of (and don’t want to be), but this makes me think that they’re trying to reach more people with this and trying to say ‘see, we’re cool guys’

then again, Cardashian was on the cover of Vogue, so it seems like high fashion is starting to lessen its standards to survive…?

    • Dash says:

The first one had a lot of cameos from big names, so maybe Zoolander holds a special place in the hearts of fashion people? The crowd loved it.

    • Josephine says:

Seriously – these fashion people are catering to reality show losers now. They’ll do anything for publicity, and this is sooooo much better than letting a bunch of skanky losers sit in the first row. These shows have not been high-brow in quite some time. It’s an embarrassment of one sell-out after another.

      • amanda says:

good point, even valentino isn’t high-brow anymore.
and i did first think ‘oh how lame, zoolander characters?’

but honestly…they’re better than the cardashians and other celebs who are paid to be there but dont even give a sh*t and are gross.

    • LAK says:

Edna Mode and Valentino are in lots of films. They aren’t rarified like people wish them to be. Valentino was in DEVIL WEARS PRADA as an example. And does no one remember PRET-A-PORTER from back in the day?

      • bbg says:

Just watched Pret-A-Porter again the other day. I know a lot of people hate that movie, but I think it is one that gets better with each watching.

  12. Willa says:

Oh man! Hooray! I need an orange mocha frappachino now!

  13. whipmyhair says:

They ruined Blues Brothers, Indiana Jones, Anchorman and Star Wars with crappy sequels years after the original.

I don’t know if I can handle a bad Zoolander sequel. My heart can only take so much.

  14. Lindy79 says:

This movie is so quotable, I was genuinely so happy when I saw this on Valentino’s Instagram yesterday

  15. Estella says:

I am excited for a sequel! They could really use the reality TV explosion to explain where the characters have been all these years and there is plenty of celebrity trash to guest star.

  16. Eleonor says:

This was a PR genious move for Valentino…and people went seriously crazy when they saw these two strutting around. I was floored 😀
I have mixed feelings about Zoolander two the first one was so great.
And Derek still can’ turn left LOL !!!
(Anna Wintour laughing that’s pretty scaring)

  17. tallo says:

OMG I love Zoolander am so excited

  18. Christin says:

Even if the upcoming movie is not as good as the first, THIS was the most entertaining thing to come out of this seemingly neverending fashion week.

There were other hilarious photos of the guys posing around Paris. And they don’t look that much different, after 14 years!

  19. Christina says:

Whether the sequel lives up to the first move or not, this is movie marketing at it’s best!

  20. Lucy says:

I haven’t seen the movie (should I?) so I have no comment on the sequel, but this was a GREAT move.

    • someone says:

Yes you should, it’s a classic – in the “Waterboy” Adam Sandler kind of way. Which means my husband and son quote it incessantly all these years later.

  21. serena says:

I love those two, truly. But Zoolander was the dumbest movie I’ve ever seen.

    • Esthetix says:

Yea, loved Zoolander when it first came out. But recently watched it again and it did not age well:(

Also, I wonder how they’ll remake it. The original was such a product of its time.

  22. Mindy says:

… because Wayne’s World 2, blues Brothers 2000, Anchorman 2 and Dumb and Dumber To did so well…

(maybe they should really rethink this idea?).

    • someone says:

I enjoyed the Night at the Museum sequels as much as the original. That might be one of the few sequels I can say that about.

  23. JB says:

“Is anyone excited for this sequel?” Yes. Me. It probably wont be “good” but that’s not really what I want from it anyway.

  24. Bridget says:

It’s amazing to look at old pics of Ben Stiller because he’s done so much to his face over the last couple of decades. He’s not really someone you’d peg for the extensive face work.

  25. kibbles says:

I loved Zoolander so I will definitely watch the sequel. Best thing to happen at fashion week. Love it.

  26. Mia4S says:

What is this?! A sequel for ANTS?!

I hate myself for being excited, I really do. 😉

  27. Diana B says:

Is anyone excited for this sequel? Well I am! I just hope they do it right instead of ruining one of the funniest movies ever.

That was a walk-off you guys!!!! I think I would have peed if I were on that audience. It looked so much fun.

  28. jwoolman says:

I remember catching the last half of Zoolander on wee hours TV years ago and couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. I started looking for it on the schedule so I could see the whole thing, and I am not much of a movie person. It is, um, rather unique. Hope the sequel is worthy of the astonishing original.

Too bad they didn’t pose with Kim Kardashian. So often I see Zoolander in her face these days. It would be nice to have side by side pics to confirm or deny – is the connection all in my imagination or not?

  29. MonicaQ says:

I kinda am side eyeing people being excited for this movie and at the same time will deride comic book movie sequels and say everything is a sequel and Hollywood has no original ideas. Uh-huh. Sure.

  30. Maria A. says:

According to the brief Washington Post mention of this in Wednesday’s paper, their appearance caused a great deal of delight. The impression was that they were a welcome sight in place of the usual crowd that attends these shows and the business as usual mood there. They shook up the atmosphere and put smiles on people’s faces.

  31. Sparkly says:

Count me among the so very excited! I need to go watch it for the 800th time…

  32. Trashaddict says:

I swear Anna Wintour has alien eyes under those damn sunglasses. Or maybe she’s just stoned out of her mind when she wears them?
