Giuliana Rancic is still talking about her weight: ‘I don’t think it looks attractive’

I’m telling you, Giuliana Rancic learned some excellent PR skills from working at E! The woman is tirelessly promoting her new memoir and she’s hustling to get out there as her role at E! is (presumably) being phased out. Throughout Giuliana’s press tour, she’s answered questions about her very low body weight with deflection and denial. She’s said that the anti-cancer medication she takes has weight loss as a side effect, and she’s said that childhood scoliosis is to blame for her bones sticking out. Giuliana has also said that she hopes to gain weight and has tried, which many people find hard to believe given her history of saying that she would prefer to stay thin.

In a new appearance on Dr. Oz, Giuliana addresses the controversy yet again by stating that she consulted a personal trainer about her thinness. (Why not a nutritionist?) The trainer told her to lift weight to get defined, so she did that and nothing happened.

Sitting down to chat with Dr. Mehmet Oz for the April 8 episode of his self-titled show, the Fashion Police host said she doesn’t like the way she looks when she’s too skinny.

“Trust me, I don’t want to lose weight. I don’t think it looks attractive,” she told Dr. Oz of the constant chatter about her thin frame. “I think I used to be more attractive. But I’m doing the best I can.”

The Going Off Script author, 40, even consulted her physician, who offered a surprising suggestion.

“I actually recently spoke to a personal trainer because my doctor said, ‘Maybe you should get in the gym.’ And I’m thinking, ‘Get in the gym? I don’t want to lose weight! Don’t you usually go the gym to lose the weight?'” she recalled. “And he said, ‘No, no, no, you should — just don’t do cardio. Do some weight training.'”

Rancic followed his advice. “So there I am, lifting my little 10-pound weights,” she told Dr. Oz. “I’m just trying to get some more definition, because I want a little bit of curve, I want to be sexy. And right now, it’s killing me to look in the mirror and see that I’ve just lost all [of it]. I’m just not the girl I used to be.”

[From US Magazine]

What kind of doctor tells a very thin patient to hit the gym? I guess an LA doctor that Giuliana Rancic would use, so I just answered my own question. Plus, ten pound weights are not “little”. Ten pound weights are my “work to failure” weights for some exercises. They’re hard for a lot of people/women, especially with moves targeting the shoulders and triceps. Maybe I’m not working hard enough though.

I can’t discuss her weight anymore, it’s a rinse and repeat situation with the things she says. As we covered Monday, she did say outright on The Today Show that she did “not have an eating disorder,” has “never had an eating disorder” and does “eat a lot.

In related news, Kelly Osbourne recently tweeted the somewhat ominous message that “Liars ALWAYS get caught!” US assumes it’s about Giuliana’s explanation of the Zendaya hair debacle on Fashion Police, which Kelly freaked out about and quit over.

Also, Radar has some details from Giuliana’s memoir about how things have been rough between Giuliana and her husband, Bill. Despite appearances, Bill wasn’t on board with doing their Style Network reality show. She wrote that the show “was a major bone of contention between us, and we argued about it constantly.” The two would fake getting along once the cameras arrived. Also, Giuliana lied about her age to Bill when they first met, claiming that she was two years younger, and she once tried to get him Botox as a birthday gift, which he did not appreciate. These two are pretty skilled at keeping up appearances, but that’s their job. Now Giuliana is letting it all hang out. This would have a whiff of desperation if it didn’t seem like a carefully planned move in her career.

10 lb weights are more than 10% of her body weight!

    • pikny says:

she needs to go to oa or a rehab facility.a little prozac , no more ipacate or laxatives some group therapy and maybe she will not meet karen carpenter’s fate. lot of crazy oa ers but that program helps .even though there is no anonymity
      as promised

  2. aims says:

I just got done reading the Candace post. It just reaffirms that Giuliani needs to take a lesson from her.

  3. Shambles says:

Stop it. Just stop talking. She’s lying to herself and everyone she speaks with, and at this point it’s crossed the line from uncomfortable to infuriating.

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I don’t know who would buy this book? The details of her life really don’t interest me at all.

    • Kiddo says:

I know, right? The only interest she actually generates is talking about her weight, that’s not a good sign.

    • Snazzy says:

I know! I’m surprised she’s even getting this much coverage! But then again so do those insane duggar people so what do I know …

  5. Izzy says:

She tried to get her husband Botox? WTF is wrong with her? I’m just all fresh out of any sympathy for her, ED or not. At this point, she knows she’s sick, she knows she needs help. She just doesn’t WANT it. She’s like my alcoholic aunt who flat out told someone that she knows she drinks too much, she just doesn’t want to stop.

    • Belle Epoch says:

Happy birthday honey, I bought you some Botox! Yeah, really. I thought you’d like to get rid of those little laugh lines you’re getting. Sure you’re still handsome, but everybody needs something. You’re not getting any younger you know No I swear it’s not like when I bought you those earrings I really wanted for myself.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

        Lol, yeah, real tactful gift.

      • Snazzy says:

My mom offered me lypo a few years ago for my birthday … really! I got pissed and told her to stop transferring her image and food issues on me (too late but always good to be aware right?). She honestly didn’t understand why I was upset because the thought came from a good intention, which was the need to see her daughter healthy (in her mind healthy = skinny)

Some people just don’t realise that what they are doing is hurtful, I think.

      • Cankles says:

I have an aunt who offered me lip injections one year. She couldn’t understand why I was horrified. She’s had every plastic surgery known to man done on herself, so I guess it’s just normal, like any other gift, to some folks?

She’s also told me that I need a boob job. My response was “Sure, you paying for it?” She’s never mentioned it again. LOL!

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Yep, my great aunt died that way. The doctors told her to stop drinking or die…….she died.

    • Shambles says:

Passive aggressive birthday gifts for the win!

  6. marie says:

When I was underweight my doctor banned me from the gym and told me to not eat unhealthy, but double all my portions, quit caffeine and relax.

Needless to say I was trying to cover an ED with a medical condition and no one was buying it. That’s how it happens. Lies to cover the truth, but she may not be able to admit it to herself. Saying it out loud is the hardest part.

    • BengalCat2000 says:

Same here. The lies I told myself and others were unbelievable. I don’t think GR sees it. I cannot imagine how much more the industry adds to her illness. Telling a person with an ED to “just eat a sandwich” is like telling an alcoholic to “just stop drinking”. It’s the most insidious and difficult illness to recover from. I don’t care for her, but I do hope she gets the f@ck out of Hollywood and gets help before it’s too late.

      • Kitten says:

“Telling a person with an ED to ‘just eat a sandwich’ is like telling an alcoholic to ‘just stop drinking’. ”

        This times a million.

What doctor tells an ED-sufferer to hit the gym?
My doctor made me do blood tests, told me to stop exercising, and strongly recommended that I see a therapist.

      • Anne tommy says:

Sounds tough. My problems have all been in the other direction, with stress eating. I can understand that people with an eating disorder can’t just snap out of it and go and stuff themselves, in fact I’m sure that would not be good. it’s so difficult when emotions and food are so linked – lecturing an obese person about “simply” not eating the wrong things is about as useful as telling an alcoholic To “simply” not take the cork out the bottle. But nothing will change for her unless she is clear about the problem. She has the money to get the best help and support available and she should get it quickly.

  7. Crumpet says:

In order for weight lifting to work, you have to eat.

I don’t care what she says, she does not ‘eat a lot’. It is physiologically impossible to eat a lot and look like that. She doesn’t even know what eating a lot looks like by now, she has been ill with anorexia nervosa for too long (her suffering of which she only cements by every word she utters when talking about her weight).

    • lem says:

yea lifting all the weight in the world will not build “curves” if she isn’t fueling property. You need excess calories to build muscle.

    • lucy2 says:

Yeah, I think she tuned out the “eat more” part of the doctor’s instructions, which I hope coincided with lifting weights at the gym.

Also, reality shows are notoriously bad for almost all of the families and people in them, even when all those involve WANT to be involved. If both parties aren’t 100%, I can’t imagine the strain that would cause on a relationship.

  8. Soxfan says:

We need the Karen “that’s enough!” gif here.

  9. meme says:

Will somebody shut her up already.

  10. bettyrose says:

Chicago awaits! Two words: mozzarella sticks.

  11. Michelle says:

    1) I can’t believe anyone would bother to read her book
    2) Because she is so thin and had cancer, she likely has terrible bone density and should lift weights to avoid developing osteoporosis.

  12. taterho says:

    *adjusts tinfoil hat*
I am suspicious. Too many instances lately of books, tv-shows, new music, etc coming out on the heels of a scandal or controversy. I think the whole Fashion Police/dreadlock comment was staged and they threw Zendaya under the bus to do it. Would we even be discussing this book if that hadn’t have happened?

    Say something shocking/racist/sexist/stupid
Let internet rage build for a day or so
    Issue apology
Release new project and interview to deflect and make you appear to be a victim
    Rinse and repeat

*returns to compiling her Chuck McGill fan collage*

  13. Mzizkrizten says:

I think it sucks that she feels the need to debase herself in this way.

  14. spring says:

WOW!! Every time she now speaks about her weight its not even her , its her eating disorder frantic that its cover is blown. I genuinely just feel sorry for her. when your at the stage of ED controlling you that much, its like your in a weird slumber, in a few months when she gets treatment she will look back at all this and think what the f*** was I saying, she will realized how much her ED had hold on her. Well I hope this could end badly

  15. Sam says:

Well…her doctor was prescribing weight training, not cardio. HOWEVER, weight training is next to useless unless you EAT. Your muscles will not build unless you give them the fuel they need to actually work. And that’s protein, carbs and fat. And if she still has that notorious carb-a-phobia, then she’s not eating well and she is NOT going to gain. In fact, weight training might actually pose serious risks to her. Every person I know who is on the “muscle building” track eats like it 0 and that’s to say they eat nutrient dense food, and they eat often.

I hate being cynical, but a part of me thinks she’s saying this because she doesn’t want any blowback if she happened to get papped at the gym. Without context, people would say, “Why is somebody that skinny at the gym?” Now she can just say, “I’m weight training, doctor’s orders!”

    • Janie says:

I thought when Maria Menudo was hired, it was to replace her? I agree about the writing on the wall, and her being ousted. I think she’s become a liability to E (what a joke) and they want younger. I don’t believe she’ll move to Chicago, I think that ship has sailed with Bill. He’s such a kind, decent man and she’s too selfish to care about anyone but herself. I wish her well, but as everyone has said… You can’t help someone who doesn’t want it or think they need any help.

    • Kim1 says:

Her co-workers talk about how much she eats yet strangers who have never met her KNOW how much she eats.GMAB.Please don’t bring up a food diary unless it was posted in the last year.My diet in 2009 or 2010 is much different than my diet is in 2015.She has stated she is too thin, she has stated she doesn’t like the way she looks, etc

      • Sam says:

Except if you know absolutely anything about EDs, you know that they master the art of making it look like they eat a ton (also, there’s this whole ED where the person DOES eat a lot and then pukes it up or takes laxatives to make it pass through quickly…what’s that called…oh yeah, bulimia). So people who attest to seeing her eat don’t actually mean that much. Try again there.

  16. Kim1 says:

I have been a fan of G for years and I am an ever bigger fan watching her deal with the hateful comments on social media she has been dealing with for the last year.Good luck to her and her family.

  17. jwoolman says:

What was Dr. Oz’s reaction to all this nonsense? Was he struck speechless or what?

  18. maeliz says:

I’m 102 pounds but I have no eating problem. Because I have osteoporosis I lift 10 pound weights. Doing the right thing at the gym can help her build a little
muscle. When she moves to Chicago, I hope she does the right thing with her body without everyone watching and commenting.

  19. Greek Chic says:

Who would buy her book? I understand the Us is a huge market but still…

  20. Jen43 says:

I really liked Bill when he did the Apprentice. She must be sucking the soul out of him.

    • Granger says:

I’ve always liked Bill! He seems like a decent, hard-working guy (I know how dumb that sounds, because I’ve never met him, but still…), and he’s never seemed as “on board” for the whole reality show thing.

  21. roxy750 says:

Why do people feel the need to criticize her looks? It’s nobody’s business. With that, she kind of let the door open by shoving herself into the spotlight and talking about it. Whatever.

    • FingerBinger says:

Being on a tv show criticizing people for their looks has opened the door for people to criticize her looks.

  22. The Original Mia says:

    She’s a mess.

  23. Lisa says:

This is just sad. No, she’s not the girl she used to be, but it isn’t only because of cancer.

  24. Pumpkin Pie says:

She can lift all the weights she wants but if she doesn’t eat correctly, nothing happens. Nobody told her that? I don’t believe what she says anyways.

  25. Rockin Robin says:

I met her husband once. He is a very nice person and just so darn handsome. She really is a piece of work though. I hope she gets the help she needs.

  26. Isa says:

She’s saying what she thinks people want to hear. Eating disorders are so much more than trying to be attractive.
The excuse before this was that she eats whatever she wants but hits the gym 6-7 times a week. I find it very interesting that she doesn’t mention her doctor recommending a dietitian. Either her doctor sucks or she ignored that advice completely.

  27. LAK says:

Another excuse, same as the first.
