Dennis Quaid’s on set ‘blow me’ freakout: Jimmy Kimmel stunt or real?

TMZ points us to this video (above) of Dennis Quaid absolutely going off on set. Warning if you are at work or around kids – there are multiple f bombs and it’s loud. It’s unclear where Quaid is but according to IMDB he only has one film in post-production, Truth, a dramatized version of CBS news anchor Dan Rather’s 2004 expose of George W. Bush’s questionable military record. (Rather subsequently retired when it came out that documents used for the report were faked.) Quaid plays Colonel Roger Charles. He may be dressed a little too casually for that role but the setting looks like it could be a military office. This clip could be from another set or it could be staged, it’s hard to tell. Here’s what Quaid says and some of his turns of phrase are hilarious. He seems dead serious, but as TMZ notes he’s an actor so who knows:

What the f*k, keep going. I am acting here and this dickhead wanders onto my set. I can’t even get a line out until dopey the dick starts whispering in your ear, and you’re not even watching anymore. Don’t f*king Dennis me. I am doing my job here. I am a pro. This is most unprofessional set I have ever been on. This is horsesh*t. I’ve got these f*king zombies over here that I have to look at. I’ve got a bunch of pussies staring at me and this fucking baby. This is garbage. blow me.

That’s some Charlie Sheen level hyperbole – “dopey the dick,””zombies” and he added a Mel Gibson sentiment at the end there for good measure – “blow me”. It’s almost too good to be true. People are wondering whether this is real or some kind of orchestrated Jimmy Kimmel stunt. If it’s fake, it’s very good. This looks absolutely real to me, but I’ve been fooled by Jimmy Kimmel’s stunts before. He loves to stage viral videos and he’s done the “freakout” videos with Matt Damon before. (Damon is the most convincing. I would pay to have him yell at me.)

Plus, Quaid’s rant bears a certain resemblance to Christian Bale’s 2009 rant on the set of Terminator: Salvation. As you may recall, Bale also freaked out about a guy wandering onto the set. He similarly called the guy unprofessional and dropped multiple f-bombs. So maybe this is just a particular pet peeve of actors because it pulls them out of character, or maybe Quaid is drawing on past rants to come up with one for a viral video.

On the other side, look at Quaid’s certifiable brother. It’s not such a stretch to believe that he would scream, yell and accuse others of acting unprofessional while he was doing just that. I checked Dennis Quaid’s social media accounts and none of them are active. TMZ also reached out for comment and there’s no word yet.

This is Quaid on Kimmel in 2013.

Either way it’s not cool. I don’t think it’s alright to yell and lose your sh*t on people. It’s not funny, but uncomfortable to see. There’s a general rule to live by and that is you keep it together and treat people with respect.

Quaid is the star and in a position of power on a movie set, and very few people would be in a position to say anything back to him. He should be setting the example.

That said, time is literally money on a movie set, and in a job where you’re constantly asking your performers to tap into their emotions, I can at least understand how emotions can run high.

I’m leaning toward prank here, but either way, that is not a movie I’m going to want to see.

I read the Reddit thread on this last night and there are LOTS of people defending this. Lots of movie industry peeps speaking up about how uncool it is to mess around on set during a scene and pointing out how unprofessional the set is. Lots of info about there being rules against this kind of thing (that set Quaid off) and how most of this stuff is fireable offenses. So I’ve got a different outlook on this whole thing after reading those perspectives and the industry people justifying his anger. Not saying your opinion isn’t valid, however it’s interesting to read perspective from insiders.

  2. JKL says:

Definitely fake. It’s too cleverly phrased and delivered to be off-the-cuff rage.

    • Dońt kill me i'm french says:

And some parts are similar from Bale’s rant

    • JenniferJustice says:

Plus when people are genuinely this mad, they tend to spit – as in spit flies – not intentional spitting. It’s not pretty, but that’s what happens when humans lose their shit and go verbally ballistic.

  3. Jenny says:

That is 100% fake. Parts of it were taken verbatim from Bale’s freakout.

  4. QQ says:

1- Son calm Your Tits Down
2- Blow Me and Horsesh!ts are the white old dude “shit got real” rallying cries
3-If any of us acted this big a titty baby in our real life jobs we wouldn’t have one the next day
4- SON , You are Dennis Quaid, the eternal second Banana Leading man, the “Hot Girlfriend of Romantic Movies” No Bo Dy gives a sh!t about your “craft” this deeply

that said I hope is real

My name is Dennis Quaid and I’m a motivational speaker. I am divorced and I live in a van down by the river.

On the one hand, I can totally see Dennis Quaid being the type of guy to actually have a freak-out like this.

On the other hand, I’m leaning towards prank, because Quaid seems like the type who would have a freak-out (prank is thereby believable) AND mostly because he’s done these prank types of things before.

I think Quaid was actually the first to do the hidden Ellen microphone prank where celebrities walk into a public place with a hidden microphone and an piece in their ear and parrot everything Ellen tells them to say.
His was hilarious. “DENNIS QUAID IS HERE!”

    • taterho says:

Yeah, this is why I lean toward it being fake. Quaid is big with the pranking.

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, I was thinking he seems like a potentially loose cannon but this thing seems staged to me.

    • JenniferJustice says:

I think that’s why it is a prank and why they used him for said prank. He has a temper so it’s believable and confusing. But, I still think if Quaid truly lost it, he wouldn’t be that pretty doing it. It would be alot messier – red faced, sweating, spit flying, etc.

He has the greatest grin – he should play the Joker some day.

    • Arianne says:

OMG that Ellen prank he did was SO freaking FUNNY!!!!!! … so yeah.. that makes me lean in the ‘prank’ direction too.. but if it isn’t, he is one scary mad dude. My favorite in this was him calling that guy “Dopey the Dick” – sure to become part of our lexicon now… LOL

  7. sarah says:

I laughed so hard when he said Blow Me at the end. This was worth it, real or fake.

  8. CharlotteCharlotte says:

Reminds me of Will Ferrell in Zoolander

    • Shambles says:

Oh, I’m sorry, did my pin get in the way of your ass? Do me a favor and lose five pounds immediately or get out of my building like now!

  9. Cora says:

    Fake, fake, fake.

  10. Kara says:

sounds like acting to me. he sounds way too restraint for the loudness and words he uses to be acutally angry.

  11. Nikki L. says:

  12. Lorelei says:

Boy is he a bad actor. That is totally fake.

  13. siri says:

Sounds rehearsed, and there’s just too much effort in it. I’d call it bad acting;-)

  14. roxy750 says:

Holy S. These guys are the D*cks. Seriously get it together.

  15. Anare says:

He’s hot and slightly deranged. I totally would!
