Rihanna responds to her cocaine video allegations: rude or fitting?

Rihanna

Here’s a photo of Rihanna dancing at Coachella this weekend. She showed up for Drake’s set (just like every other celebrity). Don’t get me started on Rih’s outfit. Let’s just say she fit in with the rest of the crowd, which is completely out of character. Something else (allegedly) happened at Coachella. Yesterday afternoon, a video surfaced that showed Rihanna in an unorthodox situation during her festival downtime. Depending on the substance in the video, things could be bad. This vid shows Rihanna either smoking or snorting a mysterious substance. Some people think she was snorting cocaine, and others think she was indulging in her love for blunts. What do you think?

The video has appeared and disappeared on Instagram a few times. Luckily, Us Weekly captured Rihanna’s initial response to the person who posted the clip:

“N***a your lame ass got some f***ing nerve!!! Any fool could see that’s a joint that I’m basing with cigarette! Who snorts tobacco??!! FOH witcho ‘never been to a rodeo so someone squeezing their nose means they’re doing coke’ lookin a**!”

[From Us Weekly]

Rihanna’s position is that she was only smoking weed, but with that type of response, she probably should have kept her mouth shut. The dancers in the video obscured whatever substance she was smoking (or snorting), so it’s not like Rihanna would have faced legal charges. I couldn’t tell what she was doing. She looked like she was ready to smoke, but she rubbed her nose a LOT. Rihanna usually doesn’t care what anyone else thinks, so this response was pretty off-script. I have to wonder whether she was worried about her new Dior contract. I don’t think Dior would mind either way. The fashion house never dumped Kate Moss after her 2005 cocaine scandal. Arguably, John Galliano was the one who kept Kate around, but let’s get real. Dior needs Rihanna more than she needs them.

Here’s Rihanna’s revised response to the coke allegations. She also posted a video with an alternate view, which may support her claim of smoking a joint.

    HAPPENING Poncho!!!!!

She’s not rubbing her nose but closed it to keep the weed in from inhaling. Not coke.

    • Tifygodess says:

Where’s the smoke though? If she was smoking and doing what you said I’m assuming we would see some kind of smoke in the air? ( I honestly don’t know that’s why I’m asking. )

      • Tiffany :) says:

I think she was at the end of rolling the joint, hasnt yet smoked it. The 2nd video made it more clear.

    • Kiddo says:

She’s very prepared. If she wants to lie down in the grass, she’s already wearing the blanket.

      • Esmom says:

Lol, yes it’s a very versatile garment. I am fascinated by the fact that everyone goes so over the top Native American/hippie for this festival. Is there an official dress code??

      • mia girl says:

You see, I find this outfit far more embarrassing than Sparkles’ Coachella dance moves.

  2. ANNE says:

People who creep on celebrities and post videos on social media without their consent and just to harm them are a-holes.

  3. Jessica says:

She always responds to anyone spreading lies about her, her response is exactly in character. If she was worried about her Dior contract she’d be releasing a nicely worded denial to People, not calling people out on Twitter.

    • ORLY says:

I know. I was wondering why Bedhead said Rihanna doesn’t usually respond. If anyone wants to see her many responses and “clap backs”, they can just read Rihplies on Instagram.

      • QQ says:

I was confused too ORLY cause Rihanna is the QUEEN of a clapback and answering to fans and keekeeing with the Navy especially on IG so much so that there are things like “Rihplies” accounts on IG just chronicling her snatching peoples wigs and responding with her own memes and gifs etc

  4. Babalon says:

That’s a pretty standard RiRi response, actually.

    • Loopy says:

Exactly my thoughts she always snaps back like that, in fact I don’t think I have ever seen an apology or explanation from Rihanna’s publicist on anything.

    • Angie says:

Yep. That’s totally in character for her

  5. Jegede says:

I don’t think it was, but even if it were, Rihanna gets away with something other music stars don’t.

If it was someone else wearing that Native American gear she appears to be sporting in that pic, they would have been called out in ‘faux outrage’, and torn to shreds. (She looks nice though)

  6. Littlebowbee says:

A musician doing coke!! AT A MUSIC FESTIVAL! Craaaaaz-yyyyyyyyyyy!

    • Wren says:

Yeah, I’m wondering how this is supposed to be scandalous. I have no problem believe either story, that it’s coke or a joint. And either way it’s very meh.

I know, I know. THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!

    • Zigggy says:

      I, for one, am SHOCKED!

  7. truthSF says:

But this is Ri Ri’s way of responding anytime someone come at her with bullshizz. If she had responded delicately and politely, then you should be worried, lol.

    • Marty says:

Exactly. Her responding is exactly on character. I remember someone doing a collective snapshot of all her best comebacks.

I don’t know, it looks like a blunt to me. But I think people would be surprised about how many celebrities use coke “recreationally”.

  8. Naddie says:

It’s not that I like her, but, what’s the big deal about a famous artist doing coke or smoking weed (or both)?

  9. dr mantis toboggan says:

    Translation please?

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Madam, how dare you falsely accuse me! Shame on you! Have you lived such a sheltered life that you are unable to tell the difference between a lady enjoying in a marijuana cigarette from a lady ingesting an illegal substance through her nose? Bah! You are dead to me! Fool!

      Or something like that…

    • Kiddo says:

I thought she put pot in a cigarette, which sounded incredibly gross, since the techniques for smoking each are very different in how deeply they are inhaled.

      • oneshot says:

rolling the tobacco out of the cigarette and putting some weed in is I’ve done when I didn’t have rizlas on hand – it’s not ideal but at least it can be smoked, never mind about the technique.

      • Kiddo says:

I thought she put it in with tobacco, not using the cigarette as a rolling paper.

      • Lucrezia says:

I think you’re right Kiddo, she was cutting it with tobacco.

But that’s completely normal down here (Oz), so I was initially confused by your surprise. Google tells me this is an American thing … you guys tend to smoke it straight. The rest of us tend to blend. Guess it’s what you’re used to.

      • Kiddo says:

        Lucrezia, interesting.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I had no idea we were so hard core, globally speaking. 🙂 Interesting!

      • FLORC says:

OR! She was emptying the coke out of the cigarette it was concealed in. This is commonly done. Or the “cigarette” was a tube to snort.

Imo she was doing both. I think Riri has absolutely indulged in coke and continues to. And her rebuttle video shows a readjusted scene. Not the same moment from a new angle.

      • Jonathan says:

Yep in Sydney, Australia at least it’s called “spin”- tobacco is usually chopped up with weed. Makes the weed go further and is a little easier on the throat/lungs to inhale. Pure pot is a bit harsh. So I hear, cough.

    • MrsBPitt says:

Translation: How dare you, sir or madam, try and scathe my impeccable reputation, with your scathing and false remarks. Anyone of consequence, can clearly see, that a delicate flower, such as myself, would never ingest any substance thru my proboscis, and am merely, partaking in an innocent, old world, tradition of smoking cannabis to be sociable with my guests! A pox on your house!

  10. Nebby says:

Rihanna cares plenty what ppl think of her, so the response isn’t too far off from how she always reacts. As for the video I think it’s weed but the nose thing did look odd. It’s also not unusual for a celebrities to do coke so I see how ppl believe it.

  11. Loopy says:

As a former smoker, I know that itchy feeling you get sometimes and you block your nose and it makes these quaking noises.

  12. paola says:

Obviously I don’t know her but to me she seems like the kind of girl that would get relaxed and chilled with joints rather than excited and crazy with coke. She has the attitude of a weed user. I don’t know if it makes any sense.

  13. Lucy says:

I like her a lot most of the time, but I also have to admit that, sometimes, she does seem quite rude and maybe even mean.

  14. Shambles says:

I hope the following comes out in a way that makes sense. As a smoker of the herbs, I would probably be offended if someone saw me smoking and assumed I was doing cocaine, too. Not saying everyone else should feel the same, but personally, I would. What substances a person chooses to put in their body is their prerogative, but IMHO there’s a significant difference between snorting coke and smoking a little weed. I don’t know if Riri feels the same, but I do know she is a dedicated pot smoker. I feel similarly in that I firmly believe in cannabis, and it’s really the only thing I “do.” And if it’s the same in Riri’s case, I can understand the offense. If she’s simply a ritualistic weed smoker, it’s a pretty extreme jump to say she’s doing cocaine.

  15. Nayru says:

Rihanna is classless in my opinion. That said who cares if some musician at a festival wants to smoke, snort, or both. That’s what they do. Drug culture is huge in their culture. Drug culture is big in places where you might not expect it, lawyers, doctors…

  16. serena says:

I don’t know what it was, but it’s not like I’m gonna be shocked if it was actually cocaine.. let’s be real.

    • Amy says:

Yeah kinda this. I could see it being either without being shocked either way. At the same time it’s no big deal. She’ll do her, that’s life.

  17. Lauren says:

She probably does coke. But I think she makes sure her people confiscate all phones (and anything else that could capture it) before she does it.

  18. Lama Bean says:

Geez. Really? I don’t care about the video. I just assume they all coke it up.
But a simple Instagram post of her drinking a coke (haha, I guess) is flat out gorgeous.

  19. snowflake says:

in the video, if you watch closely, it looks like she’s mouthing “turn that off. ” if it was just weed, why would she do that? weed smoking is not seen as a big deal by most people. and everyone knows she smokes weed, she’s made no secret of it. It looked like a straw to me at the beginning in the video. I’ve been around plenty of weed smokers and never seen anyone hold their nose after taking a toke. however, I have seen plenty of people doing lines touch their nose afterwards. pinching it, etc, like she is in the video. I’ve never done coke, so correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it like an upper, kind of, the opposite of weed. so isn’t it possible she does coke when she’s partying hard, and weed to relax her when she wants to chill out? if my terminology/slang is incorrect, my apologies. and i could be totally wrong. but riri is so wild, i can see her doing other stuff besides just weed. like many other celebs/regular people

    • ORLY says:

Her friend posted the original video. Why would her friend post Rihanna snorting coke?
She never says was was just finished taking a toke. She said she was rolling a joint. If that’s a straw in her hand, that’s one thick straw.

      • snowflake says:

It’s totally possible she wasn’t doing it. I’m not a coke expert : ) but a lot of people do coke, so you never know. and she seems pretty wild. i know lots of people who have done just about everything, drug use is pretty rampant now. but i don’t think weed is the only illegal thing she does. nothing against her personally, like i said, i know tons of people who do all kinds of stuff, from adderrall to ecstasy to shrooms to weed. so it would not be that unusual imo

      • ORLY says:

I’m not saying she doesn’t or hasn’t ever done coke, I just don’t think she was, in this particular video. I don’t think they’d be laying out lines in the open like that when she knows her crew is ALWAYS recording. It’s possible Rihanna just has an itchy nose or she was holding in a sneeze.

Yeah, I agree that drug use is quite common, I know several people who smoke and or snort.

      • snowflake says:

        yeah, true

  20. lizzie says:

i think she is rolling a joint but honestly – who really cares? maybe i’m a degenerate but i don’t think taking a bump of coke at coachella is that big of a deal.

in all honestly – if i were rhianna – i would be doing drugs and lot of them. it is permissible in the celeb world and i can’t lie and say i wouldn’t be tearing it up now and again if were 25, had unlimited access and almost no consequences.

  21. cray says:

this girl is sure riding on a hella goodwill. no other popstar can get away with that attitude or video even. I don’t know if she’s doing cocaine but I’m not surprised if she does.
this is a girl that shows up high to her own overpriced shows. and she needs to read some books. At least I haven’t heard of Beyoncé being rude to people or tweet-fighting with other celebs. I even wish she would wipe off that stupid “miss congeniality” smile she always wears

    • snowflake says:

exactly. I used to think she was bada&s with her DGAF attitude but now she just comes across as trashy to me. and foul-mouthed, like no class. same with khloe and kim kardashian. they just talk so horribly to their mom when they are mad at her, and they’re just trashy too

  22. Mixtape says:

I don’t really care about the story, but her Snuggie is stylin.

  23. NeoCleo says:

I could not understand a word of what she wrote. It really angers me that so many young successful women can’t string more than a few words together and state a coherent thought. I don’t care how beautiful or talented she is, she has no class. None.

    • ORLY says:

She responded to the guy who reposted the video that way because he’s a thug and that’s the “thug speak” he understands. He has since deleted his IG because he apparently had outstanding warrants for rape and other crimes.

  24. Ellie says:

I love her and the fact that she doesn’t apologise for herself. Why should she? People shouldn’t be filming others and putting the footage up on the internet without permission, if anyone is going to invade someone’s private down time by watching they have no right to be offended by what they see. She’s not sitting in front of a classroom of schoolchildren, she’s at a music festival.

    • Naddie says:

Yes. I don’t like her at all, but whatever she does in her private time is her business. I’d be pissed as well if someone’s filmed me doing my thing, whatever my thing is.

  25. Question everything says:

    Hypothetically:

The end of her affair/relationship with Dicaprio did shake Riri more than she cares to admit.

Honestly when I saw the video I thought that this is no ciggy. Why would you hide a ciggy?

  26. word says:

Actually Rihanna does care what other people think. If anyone claps at her on twitter, she claps back twice as hard. She is not a door mat. I like the fact that she stands up for herself. She knows how quickly lies can spread in celebrity gossip. Before you know it, the mags would be reporting that she’s a major coke head and about to head to rehab. The lies never stop.

  27. TOPgirl says:

She’s not the brightest bulb in Hollywood…must be all the drugs and not enough education. All that money for nothin!

  28. Jaquebelle says:

Coke and weed are not mutually exclusive!!! Rihanna could very well be a cokehead who uses weed to mellow out her coke high. Her messed up life, but I have never seen a weed head use a straw and normalizing drug use is never cool in my world. Yeah, I get the whole sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll lifestyle, but her total lack of class or redeeming qualities cancels out her beauty, fame, and and questionable talent. And I don’t subscribe to bullish surrounding casual or functional drug users. We call them addicts untreated and endings are predictable. Celebrities should kindly refrain from social media. Her third grade response more than highlights this concept. One love.

  29. Vampi says:

My take? Not weed. Not weed mixed with tobacco. That said…who cares? It’s her life. Personally I’ve never tried coke, but I loves my weed. (never cut it with tobacco bacause….why would I? Lol!)

  30. RaRaRasputin says:

I hate weed…it just makes people vacant, boring and spaced out. I’ve never tried coke – no wish to. Seen people on it – weirdos. I don’t really like how celebrities glamorize drugs. A little recreational use may be harmless but many people are NOT recreational users – they are addicts in denial. Alcohol and drugs destroy so many lives every day. Having a little bit of weed might not do any harm, but a full blown addict (or hidden addict) is so destructive to everyone and everything around them.

All these celebs who’ve gone nuts; Britney, Amanda, Lindsay – drugs are highly likely the cause. IF R is taking coke, do it away from your fans. You still have a young fan base. And after a while sex, drugs and rock and roll just becomes impotence, STDs, hangovers, bad aging and tinitis.

  31. aperson says:

Whether or not she was doing coke or not this particular time, anyone who believes that she would never do coke needs to get their head checked. Like i dont understand how you would even find that suprising or interesting.

  32. Loulou says:

    “Dior needs her”??? Bahahahahaha
