People: The Duggars want to return to TV because ‘it was part of God’s plan’

duggar4

A week ago, TLC finally pulled the trigger and canceled 19 Kids and Counting, the Duggar Family’s reality show. I still don’t know why it took so long for TLC to come to their senses and cancel this mess. I still don’t know if TLC really thought the Duggars could come back from the revelations about Josh Duggar molesting five girls. I still don’t know how much TLC shelled out for damage control and crisis management for the Duggars. Perhaps we’ll never know. But in the wake of the shows’ cancelation, Duggar-friendly sources went to People Magazine to discuss how the Duggars still want to be on TV.

When news broke that the Duggars’ hit TLC show 19 Kids and Counting had been officially canceled, no one was more disappointed than the family, a source who has worked closely with them tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.

The cancellation came two months after a 2006 police report surfaced revealing that Josh Duggar had been accused at age 14 of molesting five underage girls – including two of his sisters, Jill Dillard and Jessa Seewald. (He apologized and said he had “acted inexcusably” after the report became public.) The source says the evangelical Christian family, who often discussed their religious faith on their TLC show, is “heartbroken that they’ve now lost that platform.”

“The Duggars want to return to TV because they truly believe it was part of God’s plan for them to spread the word about their faith,” the source says.

“I think Jim Bob and Michelle honestly did expect people to just move on from this,” the source adds. “Their thinking is, they put this behind them ages ago, so why wouldn’t the rest of the world?”

Now with their show off the air, the Duggars’ future in television could possibly parallel that of Kate Gosselin, whose show was also canceled in 2011 following her nasty split from ex-husband Jon Gosselin. According to a source, TLC’s occasional Kate Plus 8 specials on could be used as a potential model for future Duggar series.

[From People]

I don’t think anyone should compare the Duggars with the Gosselins because (and this is painful to say) Kate Gosselin came out of her show’s cancelation looking much better than the Duggars simply because Kate never molested anyone nor did she cover up a molestation. And it was really obvious that Michelle and Jim-Bob were confused why everybody was SO MAD that Josh Duggar molested all of those children – didn’t people realize that God had forgiven Josh? Didn’t they realize that Josh barely touched those girls? Didn’t they realize that Josh mostly molested sleeping children until he escalated his abuse after his parents put up “safeguards”? I mean, come on! Obviously, this was all God’s plan to make martyrs out of the poor, innocent Duggars.

TLC and People can eat a bag of nutsacs as far as I’m concerned.

    • wiffie says:

“Part of God’s plan…. and also the only way we can afford all these kids.”

      • bluesky says:

i was thinking the same thing! translation: we need income!

      • Wren says:

        It must be staggeringly expensive.

      • Sabrine says:

With the gravy train ground to a complete stop, there’ll be no more of those juicy $45,000 a week paychecks coming in. They are starting to realize they might actually have to work for a living. Wow, that’ll be a shock! Please NO sneaking them back for TLC specials. ..it’s not just the molestation. It’s how they suppress women. It’s their treatment of the gay community, where they use their fame to influence people from their bully pulpits. They need to go away.

      • laura in LA says:

God HELP the rest of us!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Maybe Jim-Bob could rent out all the empty space in his massive head to earn a few bucks.

      • notasugarhere says:

Or all that empty space where their hearts and souls should be.

      • wolfie says:

notas; I heard that! – your heart, that is.

      • pikny says:

maybe the 700 club will take em..with all the 700 club fake savior stories incestous duggar s will fit right in

    • doofus says:

      what Kitten said.

egad, Dim Bulb has one of the most punchable faces on this planet.

and they can still spew their “religious” hatred…OH! I mean, “discuss their religious faith”, just not on TV.

      • Belle Epoch says:

        Dim Bulb heh heh heh

I detest this photo so much! Look how sweet we are? We are white supremacists, utterly obsessed with sex, “blanket train” our kids, use physical punishment, raise and celebrate a child molester, mooch off taxpayers, teach girls to “ask what THEY did that led to their molestation”… the list could go on and on. If anyone has a plan, it’s Satan. Let’s give evil a pretty face and see if anyone can figure it out.

      • o_o_odesa says:

Oh my god, I just googled blanket training and I am horrified.

      • belle de jour says:

@ Kitten: succinct and graphic; make them extra sweaty & pimply, please?

@doofus: ‘Dim Bulb’ is perfection. There’s a vintage arcade game in which you shoot balls from an air gun whilst trying to knock out a jackass’ huge teeth.

@Belle Epoch: this photo. I know. Well, we can truly say that in it, they are literally sucking out loud, for everyone to see. Also: it makes me want to heave, in a smarmy Happy Days sort of way.

    • Snazzy says:

couldn’t have said it better myself

    • Liberty says:

I share Kitten’s beautifully stated sentiments, with burning hell sauce on top.

    • Jules says:

What useless rag People had become. Disgusting.

    • Suzanne says:

These clowns need to GO AWAY. Continue screwing like rabbits and have another 19 kids but do it on your own dime…and time….where I don’t have to hear about it.
      AMEN.

    • Mike says:

Perfectly said. I really dislike these egotistical hypocrites. God has nothing to do with their desire for fame and easy money

    • Alice says:

I don’t need to read any more comments. You nailed it.

  2. lassie says:

Well. I guess you really do reap what you sow . Good call, Duggars.

  3. Jay says:

If God does exist, I really hope that one day he sits down with these morons and just says “Nope.”

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I believe in God, and I think He asks Himself “why? Why me? Can’t these whiny, stupid, sexist, ignorant, child-abusing, misogynistic hicks from hell worship somebody else?” I’m serious. I bet God has a nickname like “Dim-Bulb” for Jim-Bob, too.

      • Vampi says:

Agreed. I don’t know what “God” the Dim Bulb worships, but yeah…the God *I* believe in is giving him a major side-eye. God is NOT an excuse for your perversion thinking Jimmy….and those of us, you know…normal folks who *do* believe in God, don’t want you or your twisting of what God wants anywhere near us. You just want to control women and use them as baby makers and sex objects with no brains….because if they had a CLUE they’d run fast and far. Keep talking you jackhole. You think GOD wants your crap to float? Good luck with that you creepy ass SOB….

      • notasugarhere says:

In my imagination, it would go something like

The Divine to the Duggars: “I gave you free will. You used it to twist my teachings, belittle half of my creations, enable the abuse of children, and be prideful about those things. Have you met by colleague, Satan? Because you’re going to be spending a lot of time with him. Eternity.”

      • belle de jour says:

What wouldn’t you give for an hour’s peek at God’s nicknames for idiots in The Book of Shame?

      • wolfie says:

These folks created the Book of Shame – of course they know how to “use” it in their own behalf.

    • Katie says:

I too believe In God and can not agree with these insane people. God’s plan is always for His glory, not our own. These people are definitely not on tv for the glory of God. They’re are fame whores with a warped sense of morality. They will, one day, have to answer for their part in this scandal.

  4. Matador says:

The Duggars Want To Return To TV Because They’re Horrible & Greedy

    – more accurate

Also, stop putting responsibility for your nonsense rationalizations onto God. After all, to put it into Bible-speak, Galatians 6:7, “God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

  5. minx says:

I wonder if TLC had to buy out their contract or if they just terminated it on a morals clause.
And I can’t see sponsors buying time on any Duggar “special” no matter what the subject matter.

    • mytbean says:

As disappointing as it is, companies will buy time. The same ones that promote shows where people eat gross food, do horrible things to one another, parade subversive cultures as modern day freak shows or segments that perpetuate a stereotype. If there’s money for Kardashians and Honey Booboo then there’ll be money for this.

    • Jackson says:

I *think* I read somewhere that the show is supposed to air without commercials. I hope that is an indication that not many companies wanted to support it. But I think TLC is just doing it to gauge what kind of numbers it’ll pull. I swear, we have not seen the last of the Duggar Shitshow on TLC.

  6. Insomniac says:

Maybe it’s God’s plan that these people get the eff off of TV and start focusing on the daughters Josh hurt. Did they ever think of that?

    • Gen says:

This ^ is what I was gonna say, too.

    • Wren says:

I was thinking “how incredibly arrogant of them to assume they knew what God’s plan is”. And also “how convenient ‘God’s plan’ dovetails so perfectly with their own wants and desires”.

      • Belle Epoch says:

WREN isn’t that always the truth? Both sides in battle pray to the same God for victory. Both football teams ask the same God for help. All mothers pray that God will save their sick child. There are no atheists in foxholes.

Truly lovely people die young, and bitter, senile 90 year olds live forever. Children are born with cancer. if God does exist, He seems to be waiting for us to draw our own conclusions about what is (and is not) divine in any of these situations. The Duggars are an example of what NOT to do.

      • doofus says:

“And also “how convenient ‘God’s plan’ dovetails so perfectly with their own wants and desires”.”

amazing, isn’t it? It’s almost like they KNOW what God wants before HE does!

listen, duggars…if it was “God’s plan” to have you on TV, it follows that it must be “God’s plan” for your show to get canceled. perhaps it was also “God’s plan” for you to get exposed as the self-righteous hypocrites that you really are.

        see how that works?

      • anne_000 says:

        @ doofus

The Duggars are those certain type of xtians that think that they created God in their image, instead of the other way around.

    • Erinn says:

It’s only God’s plan for things people waaaant. I’ve noticed that. Or it’s God’s plan when something bad happens to SOMEONE ELSE.

If Heaven is a thing, and God is a dude sitting up there who actually wants the Duggars to be back on TV, I’m not sure I want to go.

    • Montrealise says:

And how about getting real jobs, like the rest of us, instead of relying on a tv show to support their lifestyle?

  7. Eve says:

God has some really shitty plans, doesn’t he/she/it? At least when it comes to TV programming, I mean.

    • T.Fanty says:

I think it’s her way of trying to make us read more books.

    • Kitten says:

      Hi Eve!!!
      *waves frantically*

      Oh and hi, T Fanty!!

      *still frantically waving*

    • I Choose Me says:

Eve! I get a happy when I see your avi. How’ve you been?

      • Eve says:

@ Kitten, I Choose Me and NUTBALLS (below):

Thank you, girls. I’ve been doing the same thing I mentioned the last time I showed up here: battling depression.

The thing is so powerful I that I no longer feel *I* have depression. It’s the depression that has me. It has made me its hostage.

I, however, appreciate your kind messages.

Kisses to all of you (and to EsCon is she’s reading this).

    • NUTBALLS says:

I just know it was God’s will that I come on to this horrible thread and see Eve’s big-mouthed avatar to give me a smile. Hi Eve!!

  8. PhenomenalWoman says:

I intentionally did not click on the link on People because I’m certain that People has been bought and sold by the likes of the Duggars and the Kardashians to gauge people’s feelings about them. I hope no one else clicks over there, too, to show them that no one is interested in their stupid show and any other show they might want to put out.

  9. mememe says:

    Because $$$

And I don’t blame them for that, because I could use some $$$ right now for college.

  10. nica says:

God when we all get to heaven will you please place me on the other side – far away from them or it’s gonna be a little hellish for me, thanks!

    • Jackson says:

I’m applying for Doggie Heaven. Only decent people there and a world of doggies!!
      Doggies>>>>Duggars.

    • Josephine says:

I was thinking that they were not bound for Heaven. Seems to me that they make a mockery of God and worship money, pride and vanity instead. They could be forgiven for breaking multiple commandments, but forgiveness requires actual repentance and acknowledgment; I don’t see that ever happening for people to seem to consider themselves above all reproach.

  11. NGBoston says:

Galations Bible Quote is spot on.

OH HELL NO to the Duggar Family. Just. Please. Go. Away.

I cannot stand Michelle Duggar and her whiny mouse-voice and Jimbo is a creeper.

The only ones who are likeable is most of the brood of these two and they are all brain-washed and prisoners of the Quiverfill (sp) Cult. I read an article on it and did a bit of research, it was horrifying and to have it misrepresented as anything else other than what it is — is BS.

Makes the skincrawl when they reference God in such backwards ways. They are not good Christians at all.

    • jwoolman says:

Since you asked about the spelling – Quiverfull if you’re googling. Check out “no longer quivering” for good stories about escapees.

  12. Kiddo says:

This is for lilacflowers, who said the Duggars have ruined ice cream…Much better, imagine her sitting across the table from the religi-bots:

    http://dlisted.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Paloma-Faith-at-Gelato-Gu-001-500×510.jpg

  13. Lilacflowers says:

Sure. Having pedophile breeders spout their platform on TV is more important to God than wars and famine and whatnot. Just curious how God communicates these messages to the Duggars: burning bush, loud voice from the sky or sculpted into the ice cream concoctions they constantly use for wholesome props?

    • Tate says:

Not sure but probably the same way he communicated to Michelle Bachman and Rick Santorum that he wanted them to be President.

      • Another Anna says:

I like to assume that, if God exists, she’s just trolling the f*** out of these people. “And then I told Bachmann to run! Oh, I slay me. This is what happens when the cable goes out.”

      • notasugarhere says:

This makes me wish extra hard that Jim Parsons in An Act of God would come to DVD, NetFlix, anything so I could see it.

Person: Lord, why do bad things happen to good people?

God: To even out the good things that happen to bad people. Duh.

  14. Melanie says:

Part of God’s plan, eh? Since when does God condone fame-whoring?

    • CharlotteCharlotte says:

Christian god condones a lot of things.

Duggars need to stop putting everything on their deity, and reassess themselves. Some personal accountability would be nice. And reading some books other than the bible might be a good idea.

      • Teri says:

        +1
I guess they don’t think the fact that the whole world knows about Josh was a hint from God that they need to make some changes.

It’s amazing how religious fanatics can delude themselves into believing they are right about everything no matter how obvious it is to most of the rest of the world how wrong they are.

      • BearcatLawyer says:

As near as I can tell (and being a reasonably faithful Episcopalian I try not to assume that I know what God wants or His plans for me or anyone else), God disagrees with the Duggars on lots of things. For example, the day Ireland voted for marriage equality, rainbows were spotted all over the country. The day before the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling on marriage equality, Washington, D.C. was also graced with a rainbow. Call me crazy, but I think MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, God loves everyone, including GLBTQ people. And you cannot tell me that God still wants these nutjobs on the air when InTouch Weekly – of all magazines – was able to unearth and document Josh’s and his parents’ crimes years after the fact.

The signs are all there, Duggars. You are not listening to God and are following false prophets. Enjoy your special corner in hell.

  15. kri says:

    Dear God,
Please stop golfing and Netflixing Kimmy Schmidt , STAT. We need you to do some Pillar Of Salt and Thunderbolt work on some gross, greedy, disgusting humans who are using you to make money. Thanks for your prompt reply!!
    The World

  16. ToodySezHey says:

    People is the worst.

The Duggars need to go away, or start some mega church . Works for Joel Osteen.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

UGH. I work quite literally down the street from Lakewood Church. Joel and Victoria Osteen appall me, and it is terrifying how many people totally buy into their prosperity doctrine BS.

  17. Talie says:

The TV show enabled them to keep up the madness… now they have all these extra kids and no money.

  18. soxfan says:

    *that’s enough! Karen gif*

  19. IfUSaySo says:

    God’$ plan, $ure that $ounds legit…

The sad part is that the Duggar parents believed that because they didn’t give two shits about their son molesting their daughters many times until he had to be removed from the home, that the rest of America values our daughters so little also. They seem shocked that they are receiving backlash continually for putting their kids, including a 5 YEAR OLD in the path of a predator for years before removing him. They knew he molested them repeatedly, but he was their golden boy and they brushed it off. How could America also NOT immediately forgive their beloved, balding, chubby firstborn?!

  20. Jackson says:

No, Duggars. Maybe God’s Plan is for you to learn some lessons and GTFO of television. Go preach your crazy Quiverfull BS from the back of a pick up truck after Sunday church service. Maybe, just maybe, God himself has had enough of you and wants you to STFU already and stop lying about your life to millions of people every damn week.

    • Susannah says:

Their “church” comprises family Sunday services in their own home, which is so incorporated that they do not have to pay property taxes on it!

  21. Bunny Love says:

If they feel their message is that important would they do it for free? Ugh.

  22. lowercaselois says:

Sure they want back on TV , they just lost a major source of income.

  23. GoOnGirl says:

Part of God’s plan? They miss the big TV check. Wonder if they were giving their 10% tithes to the Lord and their church. Also wonder if this means Jim Bob will have to go out and actually find a job. And I’m also hoping there is no TV show for the children. All Duggars should just go away forever.

  24. Lucky Charm says:

I wonder how lucrative their “credit card processing” businesses will be. And if they miss the cameras so much, they can start a pay channel on you tube so their fans can pay to watch them spread the word of their faith. Or whatever they call molesting young girls and covering it up.

  25. Zip says:

Okay, serious question because I have no idea of that kind of stuff: How do religious people know what Gods plan is? Or how do they know that they’ve been forgiven by him? Do they hear voices or does the sky turn blue, red, green or whatever?

    • Tate says:

Not sure on the Gods plan part but I think the belief is that all you have to do is ask God for forgiveness and you get it. So I imagine Josh would molest a sister, ask for Gods forgiveness and the cycle went on and on.

    • Ankhel says:

I presume : things that have happened, happened because He willed it. He is omnipotent, all-seing – nothing happens that is not part of His plan, all works out in the end. Doesn’t make it seem right though, does it?

    • Ange says:

They know when it suits their agenda, generally. Yes, I have no time for that nonsense.

  26. yuck says:

“The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.” You only wanted part one of that, Duggars? The hypocrisy is staggering.

  27. Lisa says:

That’s a funny way to spell paycheck.

  28. Thundercloud says:

I wish everyone felt about them the way everyone here does, but unfortunately and disturbingly, these nutcases have a fanbase that supports them and josh. That is what I find most frightening.

    • Tate says:

Oh I know. One quick look at Twitter will make you lose all hope.

    • FingerBinger says:

They have a huge fanbase. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do a pay to view subscription channel like Sarah Palin.

  29. anne_000 says:

I think the Duggars just need to let go of their egos and stop speaking for God.

  30. NGBoston says:

@ Thundercloud— yes, they do and I observed it first hand when I posted a written complaint on TLC’s website/comment blog demanding they cancel the show. It was ridiculous some of the crap I read there.

Also– it should have never taken TLC that long to give them the ax. I applaud the Sponsors who immediately cancelled their advertising contracts. Immediately! No questions asked before any interviews and pitiful cries and half assed apologies.

Pardon my French but eff all of them- TLC, Jim Bob/Michelle and Josh Duggar specifically. Especially the last three.

  31. Jan Harf says:

They are so gross. So, so gross. They cover up their crimes and make mountains of cash under the guise of God. I just really think they are sick, horrible charlatans.

  32. shannon says:

I am a Christian and these people give me the creeps. In fact, they gave me the creeps before any of this came to light. I hope they do not get put back on the air!

  33. Reader says:

Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, the Duggar family.

All famewhores, all having lots of sex, all exploitative, but only one guilty of molestation of CHILDREN.

  34. Vampi says:

Nope! A big ol’ bag of NOPE!
We don’t want The Duggars lecturing us about how to live holy, how their “God” (My God doesn’t let this mess slide) and opress women and cover up and excuse molestation.
And we don’t want Bill Cosby as a pillar of morality and virtue.
    Evil stuff from BOTH camps.
This TV and celeb worship is gross and dangerous. We all need to tell TLC NO!
This just can’t be happening. Seriously, who thinks this is OK?????

  35. ojulia123 says:

I love how when things go their way, it’s “part of god’s plan,” but when things don’t it must be SATAN (or, you know, liberals) behind it.

    • Vampi says:

LOL! I just had a flash of Dana Carvey as The Church Lady on SNL saying, “Could it be……SATAN?!!” when I read your comment. I needed a laugh. Thanks for that. Lol!

  36. Larry jones says:

Their cash cow is dead, may it rest in peace. Enough of these people already!

  37. meanusdevilo says:

Jimgoob is worth 3.5 million dollars. Unlike L.A or N.Y. Arkansas has no laws for children working in TV or movies, meaning Jimboob gets to keep all of the money. None of the money has to be set aside for any child who was on the show. Hence the two married ones are cooperating for cash with TLC for sex abuse shows in the future. I’m wondering if the new husbands are pushing this now that there is no chance for easy money spinoff shows. The whole family is just so ugly and certainly not Christian – only goober cult members on a mission for money. Just the creepiest family ever.

  38. Malificent says:

God must truly work in mysterious ways, since He has obviously been disguising himself as the Duggar’s accountant….

  39. Tania says:

I don’t understand what stake People has in this. Why do they keep covering them? It reflects so poorly on them.

    • holly hobby says:

Twitter @MrJessCagle to show your disappointment in People. He’s the managing Editor in Chief and he greenlit those articles.

  40. Vampi says:

His creepy face. Her creepy voice. The whole fam is CREEPY! But TLC thinks we need a “special” because there must be a ton of crazy psycho fundies that think this is ALL just okey dokey! Blanket training, telling girls they are no more than baby machines, that THEY are at fault for men’s “impure thoughts” and also God forgives Josh because…well.. GOD!
Is this 2015? Because this mess does NOT feel like it can be happening in 2015.
Jesus take the wheel…the whole car, and the manufacturing plant because this is SO MESSED up on SO MANY LEVELS!
    No TLC! NO!

    • wolfie says:

Men have impure thoughts all of the time! We can’t change that – it’s part of their DNA. We have to decide how to respond to that; only.

  41. JRenee says:

They should not be back on yv. They only made 45k total per episode? ??

  42. JRenee says:

They should not be back on tv. They only made 45k total per episode? ??

  43. holly hobby says:

Please no more malt shop shots from these backwards idiots! There must be some other picture you can use. The malt shop shots makes my stomach turn.

They aren’t disappointed because they lost their platform to spread God’s word. They’re disappointed with the lost income.

Jess Cagle, Editor of People should stop running stories about these turnips. Tweet @MrJessCagle to tell him this!

  44. BearcatLawyer says:

I truly believe that more will come to light about this family and the Quiverfull movement. I also wonder if the Seewald family’s sudden departure for an unnamed Central American country may not be entirely coincidental. While the U.S. apparently has extradition treaties with all Central American nations, they have some of the most corrupt law enforcement and porous borders in the world. Thoughts? Theories?

  45. Tiff says:

Don’t want the cash cow to dry up is more like it..

  46. Betti says:

While their ‘current’ show is cancelled doesn’t mean that TLC has dropped them – this one off show is a test, so see how many tune in. If ratings are high they will give them a new show – albeit in another format i.e. instead of focusing on their family – it focuses on their religion. With all the ‘support’ they are getting there clearly is a market for this brand of evil and TLC knows this, heck they may even get ‘christian’ only sponsorship for the new show.

This family won’t willingly go away.

  47. Seren2318 says:

I have to confess that I am largely ignorant of the Duggars apart from general information through gossip. However, I read that the Quiverfull zealots eschew fertility treatments, so would some kind person please explain to me how they justified visits to fertility doctors? Are they not members of this cult? I am confused as to how they explained that in the context of their preaching to others to accept God’s will in matters of the womb.
