Elsa Pataky’s thirst will never be quenched. I was genuinely shocked that she didn’t attend the London premiere of her husband’s film, In the Heart of the Sea. But here she was at the Madrid premiere. Elsa is Spanish, so this was a homecoming for her. A thirsty homecoming. If she was posing any harder, she might break something. Is it any wonder why Chris moved his family back to Australia? I mean, he must know. He must know that if they stayed in LA, she would be organizing pap strolls every damn day with this exact gleam in her eye.
Anyway, to promote the dumb whale movie – which I can’t believe we’re still discussing, at this point – Chris and Ron Howard cover this week’s Parade Magazine. Most of the quotes are super-boring, but here are some highlights:
The conditions of film ITHOTS: “Once we’re in the whaleboats, we couldn’t get off and on. We developed real love for one another. There was such camaraderie in that and a sort of gallows humor, like in war. I’ve never left a film and missed a cast so much.”
Why they moved back to Australia: “In the space of three years, we had our kids and simultaneously my career was happening, and everything changed. We’d leave the house and there would be six paparazzi out in front. In L.A., more than anywhere else in the world, paparazzi are everywhere, 24/7. We felt suffocated. The agitation you feel from the paparazzi rippled in the house.”
Their life in Australia: “It’s just a quiet little surf town with a lot of farming, an hour and a half outside of Melbourne. There are other things in my life now—family, kids. I don’t want to have to be in the position where I care if the phone stops ringing. I’m OK about potentially not acting. That just may be me trying to convince myself in case it does happen, but I’ve always been weirdly aware of that.”
On ‘the happiest moment’ of his life: “Last week, we were in the car driving somewhere and my little girl was in the back seat with me. I was really tired, and I leaned over and I put my head on her lap… And she started patting my head and singing a song through her pacifier… There’s the idea that we as parents spend all this time protecting our children. No, I think they’re protecting us. Sitting in the car with my head on her lap and her singing to me, there was this understanding of, ‘Wow she’s looking after Dad, and that’s her job.’ You know? And that was such a joy. Oh, there’s nothing better! It was the happiest moment of my life.”
Okay, the story about his daughter warmed my icy heart a little bit. But then I went back to the quote about the paparazzi and I iced over again. I mean… does he know? Does he even pay attention to his wife’s raison d’etre? I don’t doubt that Chris is concerned about the paparazzi and that the paps irritate him. But, as I’ve said many times before, he should talk to his wife about that. You know who else lives in LA with their kids and rarely gets pap’d? Matt Damon. Robert Downey Jr. Chris Pratt. Sandra Bullock. Brangelina. It’s more than possible for celebrities to avoid the daily pap strolls. But it’s something for which a husband and wife need to be on the same page.

I wonder what her appeal is for him then. Yes, she’s attractive, but they clearly have different views on Hollywood life. Am I the only one that finds the idea of them together crazy? He just seems to want a quiet peaceful life and he’s already talking about not being an actor. She obviously loves the attention. I wonder if she will learn to enjoy being out of the spotlight or if she eventually will dislike him for it.
I’m assuming there’s more to it than just “hey, you’re attractive, let’s have kids even though we’re two totally different people.” LOL. I mean, I hardly know a thing about her other than the fact that she loooooves attention…she had that god-awful magazine spread with Adrien Brody a few years ago, after all. But she could be a wonderful person too (off-camera) so perhaps that’s what CH sees?
I think it works. He has a job where he needs to promote his work and keep up some sort of public profile, and she seems happy to do most of that for them as a couple.
@Ladymtl, I’m aware that there is more it to than physical attraction. What I meant is that I don’t understand how someone that loves the spotlight/a fame seeker and someone who wants to live in a small town away from celebrity have anything in common. I obviously know nothing else of their personalities. But that seems like an extreme deal breaker to me.
Different views expressed in print, yes. They know who eachother are. He’s aware who he married. Unless he’s in terrible denial about everything they are exactly on the same page.
You have to never forget the stories we get are pushing a pre designed narrative. Here it’s gossip so the naratives are in conflict. Logic makes gossip less fun at times though.
@FLORC I agree with you. Maybe this is there compromise. She can do her posing and promoting, but their home is in Australia so they can keep it low key. He doesn’t have to deal with paps every day at home, but she can get all the attention she wants when he’s promoting a flim and she has social media. I can’t remember what interview, but there was one where Elsa kind of interrupted to give the reporter a magazine with her on the cover. Chris seemed kind of bemused with her.

I read in US Weekly (probably a PR plant story) saying that she is comfortable being the supportive wife…I guess because her own career stalled.

I think people can love and respect each other through major differences. My husband is in the spotlight quite a bit for his work, and I could basically be a hermit. 90% of the time we think it is funny, and 10% of the time it makes us fight. (Like when I want to back out of an event last minute, or for me when he draws attention to us in public where we could have gone about unnoticed.)
And, especially once kids come you make compromises to keep your family together. I think wanting to get divorced because your spouse would have liked to be more famous is a bit trivial.

It would bother me to the point of being a deal breaker if my spouse would behave like this. I’d want as much privacy and would do anything in my power to protect my children from intrusion. If my spouse and I couldn’t be on the same page about this basic issue. Then we’re not compatible.
I said it upthread, but maybe this is one of the things he likes about her. Promotion and keeping a reasonably high public profile are a part of his job, and she seems pretty happy to help do the heavy lifting. It’s not like he was so private that he declined Sexiest Man Alive when he didn’t really have anything to promote, after all.
But those celebs listed DO get papped. Not that Elsa isnt thirsty, but if you are in the biggest film in the world and happen to be the latest heart throb, you will be papped.

Google her name with the words “antes de cirugia” to see her original self. It was great sugery, not a diss though as I’ve had PS too but she looks so different.
I googled and yes, she’s had a nos job but I don’t think that’s too bad (lots of people especially in Hollywood has!) and she looks good both before and after it. I still think she’s gorgeous.

I think she must have dieted in addition to the nose job. Her original face and frame was rounder. After that weight loss, her chin and cheek bones looked more pronounced.
Just googled the pics and agree with the posters above: she was stunning before the surgeries. Now she is beautiful but in a generic way IMO.

yeah me too. I know she’s had some work done and stuff, but wow. In an age where celebs go overboard (see: Renee Z, Nicole K, Courteney C, all the Kardashians), she is stunning. She likes attention, but I don’t think she’s any worse than Jennifer Garner’s Ugly Shoe Farmer’s Market runs, Gwen Stefani’s Facetime Funtime with Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift’s No Sweat Gym Strolls, Miley Cyrus’s Tongue Out Strip-o-Rama…in fact, I think she’s nowhere near as bad as many other stars and spouses. Yeah, but why is Elsa’s thirst (I hate that word) any worse that the others? It’s all thirst. And her thirst doesn’t seem to be pimping out a possibly PR stunt relationship to get one on an ex (Gwen), look sympathetic to mini-van moms (Jennifer), or “shock” people with ridiculous naked prancing (Miley). Those seem far more thirsty that Elsa’s beach strolls with her kids or Chris.

I agree. I think she gorgeous too. What I’ve read about her in interviews and seen of her on talk shows, she comes off as a really grounded person. Those two make a nice couple.

Don’t know a lot about her but I have Spanish friends and they said that in Spain she was well known in her own right (TV actress) but also for her fameho/golddigging ways. She has previous for hooking up and shilling her celebrity relationships. Adrian Brody bought a castle for them to live in FFS.

I had no idea who she was – thought maybe an actress in the film – and my first thought was “How disrespectful for her to hang all over a married man like that!”
Though her top half is turned towards him, her bottom half is not. Body language is everything. He looks a little tense to me. I don’t think they are getting along all that well, in truth. She’s very pretty, but as we all know …..pretty is as pretty does. He seems like a very nice man. And we know he does put family first, he paid off his family’s debts.

He isn’t tense. He is merely laid-back and standing straight and perhaps not liking the red carpet photographers too much. It takes a lot of practice to appear relaxed when so many flashlights go off into your face. He has a good posture for sure.
Surely you need to see video of them over a period of time to form a conclusion? A couple of photos that have been selected for you are not going to give you significant evidence and it is very unlikely to be unbiased, certainly not in an article which is about the differences between the two of them.

I don’t know, I just can’t get into the hate for her. She seems beautiful and harmless to me. Yes, she is posing here…but they are on a red carpet posing for throngs of photographers. It would be insincere to try and act like they aren’t posing in this situation.
As for the pap strolls, I think a lot of celebs (wisely) smile whenever they see a camera, otherwise they will be painted as ungrateful (Kstew), or a frown will be used to support a theory of some kind of domestic problems.

I’m actually looking forward to it as well, pretty much for the same reasons. We went to see Rush pretty much only because we were seeing two movies that day (Movie Day) and it was starting just as our first movie (Gravity) ended. We were all really surprised with how much we enjoyed it. Howard got a really good performance out of Chemboy and a great one from Daniel Bruhl.
Ok, maybe I’m overthinking it, but these photos remind me of Blake Shelton and Miranda at last year’s CMAs. They too looked tense. And all the fans defended them.

I think she is far from being bad. She wants to get back into the acting business … so she has to promte herself. She is actually rather classy-funny-stylish. No trashy campaigns and no trashy appearances. Laid back style in private and stylish without being tarty on the red carpet. Especially if you compare her to the Kardashians.

I wouldn’t be so quick to believe everything celebs tell us.
Many use surrogats and use fake belly’s and hide, like Blake Lively and then magically look the exact same. Not saying that is always the case but many do it, in fact a doctor confirmed it in an article recently.
Now I understand why some celebs take photos at the beach etc where you can clearly see their pregnant belly’s and linea nigra because they probably don’t want to be confused with the fakes and I get it because I would be so mad if everyone said “ooh she looks so fat still after X amount of months whilst [insert name of actress who faked her pregnancy] looks so good”. um yeah, because she used a surrogat and faked a baby bump but I guess leaving your black roots to grow inches and patting your belly is enough evidence, sigh.

Am I the only person that thinks this is major code for marital tension? He looks totally over being there while she’s milking it. They got married very, very fast and then had babies in quick succession. He seems like a laid back dude who grew up in the outback and likes a quiet life. She seems to enjoy glamour. But I think Chris’ whole life has set him up for this. Even when he was unknown and not acting, I bet he still never heard a no because he was pretty and decent even back then. So he’s male, white, tall, blond, blue-eyed and fit… he would have had to work realy hard to screw up. Our world has the utmost understanding for beautiful individuals. Look how everyone is celebrating him for paying off his parents’ debt. In a family where people love one another, help and solidarity are sort of natural and being nice to your own parents is kind of like a minimum of decency. But when Chris does it, people act like he resurrected Lazarus or something.
So I think that yes, he did let himself be charmed by a gorgeous European lady because he is used to thinking that life always has the best in store for him. Which is a great mindset to have and easy to maintain when you’ve got every privilege imaginable. But how painful it will be if the rug is ever pulled from under his feet.
I might be wrong, who knows after all, but he seems a like a genuine good man, a family man and smart enough to not change himself after fame, money and success. He may not be the most talented actor, the most artsy fartsy thespian, he may have to rely on his looks for the jobs he gets, but he’s a 100 ways more interesting and genuine and strong than most of Hollywood actors, whether or not they achieve great success, once they start savoring the easy pussy, the luxury life, the 24/7 fun, free to drugs partying brotherhood, etc etc, they start dating a different woman after woman…so cliché than Hemsworth normality is the fresh new different thing. I respect this guy. He has to be very strong on his values and his knowledge of himself.

What happened to that dog they adopted before they moved to Australia? Liam takes his dogs everywhere, they have names and he posts photo updates of their antics… that poor fluffy dog Chris and Elsa adopted was in the media just once, he didn’t get a name and he was never heard from or seen again.
And why is he defending his role as a whaling ship first mate with the argument that his wife is an Oceana ambassador? Oceana is a Rockefeller-funded NGO that repeatedly said they do not view the decimation of marine life as an environmental crisis.
And can I just say how in poor taste that “Win a date with Chris” charity event was? It was basically Chris reaching into his fans’ pockets to gather money for an Aussie charity with the promise that one lucky fan would be his date at one of the ITHOTS premiere.
If you like him,then watch the National Lampoon remake of Vacation. He plays Audrey’s husband and I’m telling he was sooooooo funny in it. And hot!!!
