In case you couldnât tell from this blurry Twitter photo, Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus are back together. Maybe. They were together and coupled-up on Sunday in Byron Bay, Australia, at a local music festival. They were seen âcanoodling and kissingâ all over the place, and people on social media documented their coupledom. Liamâs brothers Luke and Chris were at the music festival too, with their wives. No word on whether Chris and Elsa were still âdressed upâ as Native Americans.
Miley and Liam were together for several years circa 2010-2013. They were engaged and I believe that Liam was Mileyâs first great love, the love that she sings about these days, the Wrecking Ball that turned her world upside down. I also believe that they broke up for good reasons: he was unhappy with Mileyâs success, he allegedly cheated on her and she âoutgrewâ him to a certain extent. Still, the end didnât come swiftly â they were on-and-off for a while, and even though they were totally over for something like two years, they still maintained contact with each other, possibly even maintaining a friends-with-benefits thing. Back in November, Miley even helped Liam adopt his new dog, Dora.
So, is this happening for real, or was it just a holiday hookup? Iâll admit it, Iâve always been a little bit jealous of Miley that her first great love was someone I find legitimately hot. I kind of suspect Liamâs a dog, but hey⌠maybe Miley will get some material for a new album.

And considering Jen was with Hoult I doubt she Helped Liam cheat (Jen definitely bent over backwards for him so I doubt she cheated). Either way we know Liam cheated with January Jones and a model I believe? Quite openly too. So yea as much as I dislike Miley I don’t like cheaters. So run Miley run.
I think Jen said it was the Oscars she won so she was not with Hoult then. There were some fan accounts last year of Jen and Liam cuddling or something but i cannot find the link now. Probably did not work out b/w them. I doubt Liam would leave Jen.
Those stories aren’t from the same night. She talked about the Oscars and kissing Liam not that they were at the same time. Most likely it was more recently since Jen spent the most time with Liam on the last shoot. Liam wasn’t even in Hawaii with the cast during 2012-2013 shoot for CF. Josh and Jen barely filmed with Liam for the first two movies. So again that doesn’t make sense.
And that’s assuming they were together…and I don’t buy that. By all indications she hooked up with Liam (how far who knows) and that’s it. *shrugs*

I had no respect to lose. He’s bland, dull, and even less talented than his barely-talented brother. The Hemsworths are grossly over-rated, and Cyrus is just gross. They belong together.

I’m going to play devilish Miley’s advocate here. I always heard that he wasn’t very good to her (the cheating, etc.), and if you look at photos of their early relationship you can easily tell who was more into whom. She looked at him like the sun was born out of his face, and he was more interested in the cameras most of the time. I will believe he was her first great love. I’ve been to that place, where you’re head over heels for a guy who treats you like dirt. I went a little insane. I had pink hair, blonde hair, black hair, long hair, bobbed hair, and my behavior was not something to be totally proud of either. The point is, I can see why someone would chop off their hair and start acting insane if the person they love is treating them like crap. All the antics, while grating, seemed more to me like a giant “f*ck you” to Liam. “I’m going to chop off my hair that you probably love and go gyrate naked all over a mysoginostic praying mantis dressed like Beetle Juice if you’re going to cheat on me.” Not saying that makes it right or any less annoying. But I understand.
He hooked up with Jlaw who is considered a more physically appealing due to her girl-next-door looks and essentially a toned down version of Miley. He clearly has a type: ambitious successful fun-loving, outspoken, a bit vulgar (Miley with the nudity and non-conforming looks, JLaw with the bodily fluids and ‘rude language’). Basically crazy in the fun way.
Her Bangerz era was mild in comparison to this one. During Bangerz she never posed naked in magazines in the porn-y desperate way she does now. She’s really at 100% now and Liam left when she was maybe at 80%. Also she always maintained she was like this in the past which makes sense when you consider the salvia, the penis cake, the ‘racy’ Vanity Fair pictures back when she underage. She had to suppress it for so long and she was clearly unhappy (yoga/pilates Miley was also cutting herself for example). Even now, she seems very sad about certain things. I don’t like her attitude towards certain things but it’s completely human to attach yourself to the one thing that felt real which in her case would be Liam.
Oh and I don’t think he particularly cares about her looks. Again, she looked ‘better’ during the bangerz era and they’ve been hooking up for a while now so it wouldn’t make sense to go back when she’s ‘worse’.
Yeah she looked at him like he was a god, but people often only see those pictures when you can find him looking at her in the same way in the same set of pictures. Media just used it as an easy narrative (she’s way more into him). They clearly kept in touch so he didn’t not scurry away the first chance he got. Bangerz explained he was playing with her feelings, he didn’t outright dump her and moved on. The fact that she is with him now, with his family (who don’t seem too keen on her as Chris has even spoken negatively about her in the past) is pretty big.
I think he’s just as crazy but wants to keep it low-key because of image and all. She doesn’t care as she has enough money and fame already.
i dont find her nude shots purny at all actually. quite arty in fact. she seems comfortable with her body and doesnt seem to need to enhance it in some artificial way.

Someone else wisely pointed out at the time that the girl he broke up with in 2013 was not the same girl he got together with in 2010. I dislike them both so this is not a defense of him, but any person has a right to jump ship when the person yoy fell in love with evolved over time into a person you can barely recognize anymore. Cyrus’s evolution was THE most rapid and extreme of any person I’ve ever seen.

Yes, first love can be a powerful thing. A good ten years after we broke up, my first love and I would hook up periodically at times when each of us was single, then we’d realize that the nostalgia of first love wasn’t enough to continue. We finally broke that cycle when I got engaged, never saw each other again. Although we do chat and catch up every few years or so.
I saw my first love again for the first time in 35 years last Thanksgiving. I was surprised at how powerful the feelings still were, even though I would never want to be with him again as a couple even if I wasn’t happily married.
I got back together with my first love 10 years after breaking up with him and 11 yrs and two kids down the track we are still together.

I think this is a tad unfair. Firstly, who did he cheat with? That was an unsubstantiated rumour. He hooked up with someone right after they broke up and that was really public, but cheating? Not a definite. Also, they were really young and she was going through some epic changes and self-finding. She also did some mortifying stuff. She was 100x more famous than him the whole time they were together; I highly doubt him being jealous of her success was a factor. I honestly think they were too young and going through a lot of change. He may have been a standard young guy douche; but I don’t think the break up was all on him being awful.
My feeling is that three years ago they were both at an identity and career crossroads in the months leading up to their breakup and the release of Bangerz. He may have cheated but I think if anything he was moody and hot and cold with her because of how he was feeling about himself. Miley may have been 100% more famous than Liam but she was mostly hanging out with him for the prior few years. But now she was out of the bottle and about to make a huge move careerwise and I don’t think that was a huge obstacle for Liam in of itself. But in terms of his identity and career, I think he wanted to be his own “man” and make his own success and maybe it was hard to feel ownership in his life that he needed at that time when he was in Miley’s shadow. They both needed to step away for themselves but I think it’s telling that Liam has not had a girlfriend in all this time. They both seem on more stable terrain in their own selves now and I seriously doubt they would be spending holidays with each other’s families if this were a casual or temporary hookup. I, unlike many, don’t think Miley is a trainwreck at all. I think she’s a genius and an icon.
@SKF, agreed. I constantly see people referring to him as a cheater, but as far as I know, that wasn’t ever confirmed and I don’t think it was ever even stated outright. I seem to recall there were blind items that people guessed might be him, but I don’t remember anything more than that. Could be that I missed some posts, but it seems more like a blind item turned into a rumor, which turned into fact.
I also thought they were both pretty young, and it isn’t that unusual for people to grow apart or realize they’re not well suited.
He went home with January Jones and was photographed leaving her place the next day. This was when he and Miley were very much together.
I don’t think there were any photographs of him other than with his brother and her in a car. Where are photos of him leaving her place the next day? I’ve never heard of that.

I want to know Miley’s relationship with JLaw. Jennifer said that her and Liam grew close after they both went through “devastating” breakups. She also admitted they hooked up. Liam refers to Jennifer as one of his best friends.
I want to be a fly one the wall during those interactions. Jennifer and Miley are both so attention seeking, constantly the center of the universe types. I say this as a JLaw fan. Besides I always got the feeling Miley didn’t like Jennifer, or at the very least, didn’t have a relationship with her at all.
I do not think they have a relationship. If i was either of them i doubt I could have a relationship with the other.

I found this quite cheap: using Miley as the ultimate ‘hot mess’ in your humblebrag-story because you know how much attention that will get; because of the public opinion on Miley. Miley nipped it in the butt real quick: she tweeted “That never happened.”
I think Miley has been keeping contact with Liam all this time, and it’s no coincidence that now they are spotted out publicly after JLaw told the world that they hooked up. This is Miley’s way of showing JLaw that she still has dibs on him.

It was always rumored Miley didn’t like Jlaw and was jealousy about how close she and Liam were since the begining, but during the time Miley and Liam were together Jlaw was with Nick so there was nothing there. After both break ups they definetly got more close, they said amazing things about each other and how they’re best friends and always will be. The timing of Jen admition of kiss off screen is interesting though. They’re both single and lots of tabloids rumours about Jennifer and Liam, then she gives proof something did happened at some point and days later Miley is running to Australia to “hang out” with Liam. Jealousy at the finest form so if Miley and Liam do get back together will be interesting to see the Jlaw, Miley, Liam dynamic.
This sounds like fan fiction served up by Jennifer Lawrence’s PR team. My question is why JLaw would decide that now was a good time to say she’d had a little something with Liam? She absolutely had to know that Liam and Miley were involved again. She’s the one who seems to be pushing, not Miley. Miley has never responded to several mean girl shadings by JL.

Here’s what I think happened:
1) Liam and Miley were head over heels for each other and ready to marry.
2) Then Miley realized her child stardom was over, got desperate for attention, and went berserk with drugs and look-at-me sexuality.
3) At that point, they needed to be apart. Miley wasn’t ready to be tied down yet, and Liam didn’t want to be with the person she’d become.
4) Nowadays, Miley has mostly gotten the wild oats out of her system. If the affection and the romantic connection between her and Liam is still there, there’s no reason why they might not re-kindle something. They had a great relationship once; it could happen again.
I feel nuts for saying this b/c it’s so optimistic but I agree with your take on it, BandC. I think it was real, and they were young, and when they’ve grown up a bit more, maybe what was real will still be there.

Liam treated her really badly at the end, remember him macking on the Brazilian model in full view of the paps all around LA – before their engagement had ever been publicly ended? Neither were perfect relationship material at that point. I remember wondering why Miley going wild on stage made it ok for him to basically cheat right in her face, or at the very least be extremely disrespectful immediately after a break up. And don’t say Miley twerking onstage is the same thing – those dance moves are choreographed and camera blocked. Even Paula Patton was hugging Robin when he came off stage.

I think they’re friends with benefits. Miley tried on a few other flings but still holds a candle for Liam. In my mind she was the one that initiated this trip to visit him and he is happy to go along, but is not wanting to recommit.
And the attention she brings to him can’t do him any harm, being as he’s incapable of bringing attention to himself by his own bland, boring, uncharismatic self.
They could’ve hooked up in the US though. Apparently, they’ve been spotted together before by the public but no pap pictures until now. Australian paps are truly the best/worst.
