Henry Cavill might not have dumped his teenage girlfriend Tara King after all

Last week, the British tabloids claimed that Henry Cavill had dumped his teenage girlfriend after roughly eight months together or so. Henry began dating Tara King, a 19-year-old college freshman, in the fall of 2015. Soon after they started up, Tara began ditching class to follow Henry around to premieres, parties and promotional events. It seemed like love. Uncomfortable, eye-rolly love that involved Henry telling the world about how Tara “protected” him when he was feeling sad and vulnerable. A few days after The Sun broke the news of Tara and Henry’s split, Us Weekly followed up with a confirmation of their own. Us Weekly’s “multiple sources” claimed, again, that Henry did the dumping:

“She was in too deep and he didn’t want anything too serious. He has a lot going on right now. They’ll remain good friends, but it just wasn’t meant to be. No fight, just not meant to be.”

[From Us Weekly]

“She was in too deep” pisses me off. SHE IS 19!!! Of course she was in too deep. Of course she fell hard for the movie star who bought her clothes and promise rings and introduced to her to important people. As I said in the first story, this makes me feel sorry for her. She’s too young to deal with this 30-something dude’s complicated bulls—t.

But! There’s a wrinkle in the breakup stories. Last week, Henry and Tara participated in the Durell Wildlife Challenge race, a 13-km race for charity (see photos below). A source told the Daily Mail: “They definitely looked like a couple and seemed very comfortable with each other. Her dad was there too and they were chatting very happily with Henry Cavill’s family before Henry and Tara and the actor’s dog get into the car together and drive off.” So what do you think? Did he dump her because she was in too deep or did he merely cool things off slightly, but he’s playing with her head and they’re still “hanging out” sometimes?

  1. Alex says:

They probably cooled off because again Henry is a man child who seemingly cannot deal with actual adult relationships

  2. Sixer says:

Has he entered the competition for Most Ridiculous Celebrity or something? Is there a prize?

    • paleokifaru says:

Maybe he’s angling for a prominent position in Leo’s wolf pack?

      • V4Real says:

He’s too bland for Leo. Cavil doesn’t strike me as the chap who would listen to rap music which Leo loves.

      • paleokifaru says:

Ha! Although I’m always surprised because THE whitest guys turn out to know every Tupac lyric. You never know.

      • Mia4s says:

Too bland? You give Leo too much credit. He’s apparently tight with Orlando Bloom. 😉

  3. Locke Lamora says:

Was he always such an a-hole or did the fame go to his head?

  4. Carrie says:

To me, Henry Cavill looks JUST LIKE John Travolta in the race photos. I never saw the resemblance before!

    • V4Real says:

He lost his hotness somewhere down the line. He still looks good in character as Superman though. But he does look like a young Travolta in those race pics, holy shitty resemblance Batman

His on again/off again girlfriend got some serious camel toe going on in that pic.

  5. Tiffany says:

Hey, Tara’s Dad, you should not be hanging with him, you should be figuring out a way to throw down with him.

    • INeedANap says:

My parents would FLIP THEIR SHIT if I was skipping college classes to date a 30 some actor, and they weren’t even talking to me for 3 of the 4 years I was in school.

Seeing all this together just smacks of daddy issues.

  6. Jessica says:

Let me guess: He tried to dump her, but she’s a stage-5 clinger and won’t let go.

  7. CornyBlue says:

    Superman : the girlfriend returns

  8. Rebecca says:

    Uh-huh

  9. Osito says:

Everything about all of this deserves all the shade we got, except cartoon Batman in the background. Cartoon Batman is genius.

  10. elle says:

The promise ring PR stunt backfired, so they’re trying the opposite extreme. Is his publicist a teenage girl?

  11. Elisa says:

What I find interesting is the timing of all these articles (as far as I can tell): it seemed like the initial reports of them (allegedly) breaking up came out as the race was happening, and then after a few days of, “They totally didn’t break up, they were at the race together!!” reports of them staying friends came out as a cover story, á la, “Oh, no no, they broke up, but it’s okay because they’re such good friends, you guys.”

    1. If they indeed have broken up, then the fact that they were at the race together should upset be used as a counter argument, because, as we can all recall, he allegedly invited her to his birthday party despite having broken up, and she allegedly attended in good faith, so why should it be a surprise that she went to the race with him, too?

    2. One version of the story (Just Jared or another website like that) said he was “frustrated with the reviews of Batman v Superman” and decided to call it off with her to “focus on his career” because he has “a lot going on for him right now.”

Read: He has said several times that he likes money and he didn’t make as much money as he thought he would because his movie didn’t do as well as he hoped it would and subsequently couldn’t afford to keep his teenage girlfriend around, and probably couldn’t afford to take his friends on a luxury vacation to Tahiti or Bermuda (you know, when he was bragging about how he relaxes on Live with Kelly and Michael a little while back), so he had to make some cutbacks, and three vacations in a year with his teenage girlfriend was one of them.

Further read: He said in his GQ interview that he didn’t get to have a fun time when he was younger because he didn’t go to uni like his friends, so, like most 19 year olds, he’s just learned that fun times cost money, and his lat at movie didn’t make him much of it. Poor privileged English muffin: how sad it was for him that he was in one movie and had enough money to buy an Astin Martin, it’s not like other people are killing themselves at minimum wage jobs trying to pay back student fees or anything, it’s not like Astin Martin money could really help someone out. Not at all.

    3. If he makes money from Sand Castle, whenever that comes out, and if Justice League does well, Tara will be back. That’s probably why he’s keeping her around, not so much because he’s stringing her along, but probably so she won’t be forgotten by anyone when he gets a big paycheck again and he can resume spoiling her.

What annoys me most about the whole thing is that he never said nice things about his previous girlfriends (not counting Kaley Cuoco, because that barely counted as a fling), certainly not to the extent of this chick. He comes out in public right around the time of a movie one of his ex-girlfriends is in, saying how greeeeaaaat she is, how she proteeeeects him, how she looks out for him when the bullshit of being Henry Cavill becomes to much for his wee little heart to take, defends her when people flirt with him in front of her, etc.

Did no one make fun of Gina or Ellen when they were dating him? Most people *now* (for example) are saying he was better off with Gina, but at the time, I’m sure people made fun of that pairing, I’m sure they flirted with him in front of her, and not a peep from him? In interviews whenever anyone brought Gina up, it was just a two-word, tight-lipped, “She’s great,” and that was it. No waxing romantic about how nice she was to him, nothing about how great he thought she was, zilch. What, he couldn’t go to bat for her, too? He talks game about being loyal and having integrity, but he clearly utilizes those feelings sparingly.

I mean, it’s almost like he might not have felt the need to stand up for them; I can’t imagine why he might not want to defend two grown women and not a teenager, though, I mean, surely, *surely* he would want to defend any woman he dates because he’s such a great guy, right? Surely, he wasn’t seduced by his own sense of greatness and ability to get a nineteen year old to hang around with him, surely he knows that it makes him look like a real boar to make speeches for a girl he’s known for less than a year and not a woman he’s known for two?

  12. Mary J says:

e I’m really tired of these less than men actors going beserk over 19 y/os hos. these girl might be young in age but old in body and the desire for the lime light. I’m still asking what’s with the moral compass in this world? We’ve sold out our young girls for a dream of fame and spot lights. Who’s going to pick up the pieces of all of these wrecked lives and bodies? you’re only young once, make something of yourselves besides a used up piece of meat.

  13. Patty says:

She is very old 19. I know she is legit 19 but boy does she look older. But I agree, she needs to leave that mess alone. Henry Cavill seems like a hot mess.

    • Mary J says:

He’s more than a hot mess, He wants to be relevant but comes across as an assh–e. He should understand, you have to be more than a face to have people care about you and spend money for your lack luster movies. This is more than a bad choice it will end in a very bad way for him and her. Look at the girl, the smirk on her face is like she hit the lottery. I’ve been wary of this since the beginning, I don’t believe she ever set foot inside a university, she couldn’t have, she’s been to busy sniffing up his behind. I’m passionate about this because it’s so wrong to use a persons youth on a never going to be. Look at Courtney Stodden, nothing is more sad than a unwise girl holding on to a dream that can never be realized.

  14. ernesto says:

nope, i still believe they’re over. just because she went to the race with him means nothing except she still has obligations to fill on her contract plus, she wanted to be in on the publicity. i can’t imagine his pr team would allow this so it has to be all henry’s doing. he’s gotta keep that beard, JL movie fanfare will be come soon enough and at the moment, it’s cheaper to keep the little naive girl than to employ one who knows how the system works and demands real money and introductions to real contacts not just being photographed out-and-about.

also, this little act keeps people talking about him, doesn’t it? i mean, what else is there to talk about when it comes to this boring man? because he knows he can’t act and his looks have gone to ground so the public will quickly forget about him if he doesn’t do SOMETHING.

and like i said before, when it comes to henry – any publicity is good publicity it seems to him.

i know everyone calls him cheap but i think he just doesn’t have as much money as people THINK he should given the amount of movies he’s done. i mean, figure what he gets paid (he’s no A-lister by ANY means no matter that he’s the new flavor-of-the-week superman plus again…he CAN NOT ACT TO SAVE HIS LIFE) by his taxes, what he pays his pr team, doles out on expensive vacations along with treating his family and friends (i read somewhere that he employs members of his family) and what he puts into his production company.

sure the the man’s comfortable but he’s not rolling in it by a long shot.

all i can say is his antics keep me entertained. do something else funny, henry.
