Sarah Paulson kept her Marcia Clarke wig as a good luck charm

National treasure Sarah Paulson can definitely be described as a lucky lady. The 42-year-old actress collected an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her stunning portrayal of prosecutor Marcia Clark on FX’s American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson. Plus she’s dating the divine Holland Taylor – and they are so adorably in love. You’d think she’s got all of the luck she needs, but, as she confessed to Stephen Colbert, she can’t part with the perm-a-licious wig she wore to play Marcia.

Sarah brought the wig with her to the Colbert show and, when Stephen asked if she wore it before the interview, she laughingly admitted that she did. She went on to say, “I travel with it, I take it with me to hotel rooms before I get ready for these events. It’s just a way of communing with the thing that had been so great which was wearing this thing on my head. I like to carry it around. It’s really nice to see it.”

And, to further immerse herself in her ACS role (besides drinking tequila with Marcia), Sarah even wore the same perfume Marcia did during the trial. She wore what she called “extremely stinky” perfume, Magie Noire, on her pulse points and would take a whiff before they called “action” on her scenes. She jokingly referred to it as her “acting juice.” Oh, if it were only that easy, right? I would totally buy Sarah Paulson’s Acting Juice. Hell, I’d bathe in it.

If you aren’t a fan of Sarah’s, you might be after this interview. She and Stephen cut up and she talks about the time that she sniffed the back of Cher’s head (she’s a big fan of her acting, and was too nervous to actually approach her – which makes me love her even more). The pair also discussed the faux cigarettes Sarah constantly puffed on as Marcia on ACS. Fun side fact: Sarah has still not watched the show. During a montage of clips of Sarah-as-Marcia lighting up, Stephen joked, “I hope the cigarette was nominated.” This led to feature called “Puff Puff Act” where Sarah puffed away while giving dramatic readings of the song “Singing in the Rain” and the theme from Sesame Street. Just watch the interview, you can thank me later.

Sarah does seem to have turned the wig into something akin to Dumbo’s magic feather. She recently posted a Golden Globe night photo to Instagram, clad in a robe with the wig on her head and the caption, “I think I have a hard time letting go.”

I think I have a hard time letting go…

I don’t care if she carted the real-life Marcia Clark around with her, I love, love, love Sarah. She seems like so much fun, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. I know we’re going to see her on American Horror Story, season 7, and I’m sure she’s going to continue to choose interesting projects moving forward, because that’s how she rolls.
