Sarah Paulson in Carolina Herrera at the Emmys: Jiffy Pop Realness?

69th Emmy Awards

If I was a movie star and I had to do a million red carpets every year, I would probably stick to a handful of designers: Naeem Khan, Elie Saab and Caroline Herrera. Those are the designers who create the most consistently good red-carpet dresses, in my opinion. I always associate Herrera in particular with great construction, flattering sillhouettes, and feminine-but-never-twee, and never particularly trendy. So join me in wondering WTF is going on with the House of Herrera these days. Three prominent actresses wore Herrera and the gowns are all over the place. First up: Sarah Paulson in what can only be described as Jiffy Pop Realness. The stylists on Twitter were making a big deal about how this was fresh off the runway from NYFW and Paulson got it first, but… like, surely they could have made some edits to this before they put it on Paulson?? Yikes. Also: her American Gothic farmer’s wife hair needs to go.

Mandy Moore wore this Carolina Herrera Resort and good news, guys, she’s also going to wear it for Halloween when she goes as a BELL. THIS IS TERRIBLE.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus actually wore a Carolina Herrera gown that I would expect from the fashion house – simple, elegant, not dowdy, not trendy. Julia looks lovely but she always looks lovely. As a society, can we all agree that she has enough awards though? We really don’t need to keep giving her SAGs, Emmys and Golden Globes. Enough. She has enough. Veep is good but it’s not THAT good.

Who dressed Sarah?! Besides the dress being hideous the sleeves looked off kilter. And her hair was the worst.
    Mandy Moore looked silly.

  2. Bridget says:

I thought it was gorgeous when you saw her move in it. I love it.

JLD and Veep really are that funny. The show is withering and hilarious and she really is the best every year. But at this point it she can take herself out of contention.

I keep going back and forth on that. She’s won so many times in a row now she broke a record, so part of me feels she should take herself out of contention, but the other part thinks hell no, she kicks ass in that role and should compete like everyone else. It only has one more season, so I can’t imagine she’d withdraw from the Emmys for the last one.

I love her dress. That’s the Herrera style I like, the rest don’t do much for me.

I actually like all three dresses in their own way. Carolina makes dresses for a certain type of rich bitch and her daughter. Julia is wearing something Carolina would have worn. The other two are wearing something that Carolina’s daughters would have worn.

The only thing about Sarah’s dress is that it does not fit well near the waist. It should have been taken in a little. Also, Sarah’s hair is too dark.

Julia looks stunning as always. Mandie is having fun. I like her goth wedding cake of a dress.

Can i just say that I am just a little annoyed with Julia’s win again? Last season of VEEP was HORRIBLE. She and that perfect cast could not save that mess of a season. This was not Julia’s best season because the material was just not there for her to sell. I feel like either the people who vote for her are voting for all the times she should have either been nominated or won for Seinfeld or just voting on name recognition. Literally every other woman in that category had a better season that Julia did last season. My hate is not really for Julia but more on the voting block.

  4. Sara says:

The black and white is the best, BY FAR.

  5. Nicole says:

Veep was not good for 6 straight emmys. Pure lazy voting. There were so many other women that had better years. Veep was downright mediocre compared to some of their earlier seasons. And I say this as a huge fan of the show

  6. Nancy says:

Oh no Sarah……she looks like Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest!! A no to Mandy,…..and the winner is Julia who looks amazing.

  7. HappyXamp says:

Tumblr identified Mandy Moores dress as the same one Meghan Markle wore in VF.

  8. Jayna says:

Oh, my. That’s all I’ve got on Sarah’s dress. And her hairstyle and makeup is horrible, too severe for her .

  9. OhDear says:

I wonder if Julia’s wins has something to do with the fact that she’s a billionaire…
She did not deserve to win 6 years in a roll

  10. Tiffany says:

Veep might not be that good, but she is. Every year she has won has never been questioned. She is the best in the game.

  11. M Craig says:

The dress was horrible. The look was horrible. I felt sorry for her.

  12. Anguishedcorn says:

Sarah’s makeup was so.bad. Good Lord! And the dress was also terrible.

  13. Aerohead21 says:

I hate all 3 of these looks.

  14. Sarah says:

OH, those are the three designers I would use, also!! Did you ever see the Herrara gown with the huge colored polka dots on it? So gorgeous!!

And Elie Saab never misses – always elegant, while Naeem Khan adds some pizzazz.

  15. Sam says:

It is absurd that she has won so many times and an insult to the other nominated women. She is good, but not that good !
