Pink to troll: ‘you just suck by yourself on a dirty couch’

I feel bad for Pink. She has wanted to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl her whole life, finally gets to chance to do it and everyone is crapping on her – for being sick! As Kaiser wrote about yesterday, Pink did a good job singing the anthem even though she was suffering from the flu. Right after she was announced at the game, Pink removed a throat lozenge from her mouth and sang as best she could. And not just any song, Star-Spangled Banner which is very difficult to sing even under the best conditions. Personally, I thought she sounded good. But not everyone did. And, because some people just need to spread ugly, they broadcast their feelings across the internet. Like this wordsmith who goes by the charming moniker “Dirty Coüch,” because the umlaut makes him fancy:

Ooooooooh, burn! You hear that, fellow Pink fans – we’re all a bunch of dummies. And he’s said she sucks 1,000 times so you know it’s true. Well, Pink got wind of Mr. Coüch’s comments and didn’t even bother to disagree with him. She did, however, take him to task, like he deserved.

Ha! I’m not going to over-analyze this too much. It’s a funny response to someone being a jack@ss. But I like her point that he’s not doing anything special. I know trolls are always going to take cheap shots at successful people, but I also like that when they do it on social media, they get called out for it.

A couple of you mentioned in the comments yesterday that maybe performing with the flu was not the best idea or message Pink could have sent. I understand what you’re saying, I worked through the flu (at home, not where I could get people sick) two years ago and it was a very bad decision. But I also get where Pink was coming from. I can’t sing at all and would never be asked to but even I have fantasies of singing the National Anthem in some big venue like this. Pink’s waited her whole career for this opportunity and you know how the NFL gets its nose out of joint, they’d probably punish her for decades for cancelling. It probably was not the best decision, but I also understand why she went for it. What I don’t understand is why is people went bonkers about the throat lozenge. Even if it was gum she forgot to spit out, what else was she supposed to do with it, swallow it?

Trying to practice the flu away. I’ve been waiting to sing this song since 1991 when I saw my idol, Whitney Houston, own this song. And now, my chance has finally come. And it just so happens that this chance comes when I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek. You can’t write this stuff I swear! And here we are. I’ve arrived at another one of my dreams which is slowly becoming a sort of nightmare. I will tell you, this is one of the biggest honors of my life, singing this song in front of my family, my military family, my dad and brother and step mama and family and the world. And the EAGLES!?!?! I promise I will do my best, as I always do. As far as the gremlins that got me into this mess, you can cough at me for the rest of your lives. If it’s a contest, babies, you win. #spreadthelove #spreadthegerms #pleasegivememyvoiceback #ificansingimgonnakillit

I DO TOO! I love how she’s so real and just lives her life for her and her family.

her kids are so cute…and I’m SQUEEEEEEE-ing over that pic of her son. my goodness he’s adorable!

  2. MI6 says:

    Adore her. She’s so authentic.

  3. RBC says:

You know how some celebrities will lie and say they have the “ flu” or “ dehydration “ to avoid working or doing events? If P!nk had done that , the trolls on social media would be on her case in no time calling her a diva, saying she was faking, etc..
I think she did a great job and to sing the national anthem at a major event is a once in a lifetime chance . That troll on the couch is just jealous

  4. Scal says:

I don’t mind her coming out to sing with the flu.
I do mind that she was on instagram with various celebs and stayed in her box the entire game. I get it-it’s a big deal. But you have the flu! Sing your song and go home!

  5. Goats on the Roof says:

Love Pink, but if you have the flu, stay home. The flu is hell this year. I had it and was literally wishing for death to take me at one point. Don’t spread your germs any more than you absolutely have to.

I get what you’re saying, but this is such an honor to even be asked. And she’s a Philly girl. What a dream it must have been for her, to open the Super Bowl that her boys finally won. I get why she did it.

  6. barrett says:

Well I work in healthcare, they never advised if she was in the contagious period. It kinda of annoyed me. She may have had it for a week , that’s why we hate the flu after the contagious period is lingers w congestion, coughing fatigue and you feel low energy for weeks…..

I kept think is she at the end of it, middle? Li

After she sang, I wondered out loud what they did with that germy microphone. I hope nobody else had to use it. I had a SB party, and several people commented about her spitting out what we assumed was gum. It did look awful, but since it was a lozenge, it was understandable. (Kind of reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where someone thought Jerry picked his nose, but it was a scratch). We all thought she sounded wonderful.

    • me says:

LOL I was thinking the same thing about the microphone…or whomever hand she shook or hugged after the performance. I sure hope she used sanitizer and they sprayed the microphone with disinfectant.

  8. Beer&Crumpets says:

She’s probably on Tamiflu, along with her whole family and whomever she works closely with. 24 hours on Tamiflu and you’re no longer contagious – that’s what they say. And in my case, “they ” are the doctors I work with. And I believe them, since I work with a vulnerable population- I’m an OBGYN nurse. I tested positive for Influenza A, got put on Tamiflu, and was cleared to go back on the floor 24 hours after the first dose of the Tamiflu. Influenza A puts folks in the ICU and pregnant women are extremely at-risk. So Pink was most likely on that stuff, and she went and sang, and then did the celebrity thing and I highly doubt she was a public health risk.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

Tamiflu can reduce shedding but does not stop it completely, meaning you are still contagious while taking it.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Thank you, Beer&Crumpets, for bringing the science.

      • Goats on the Roof says:

This is not actual science Beer has brought you. Do some research, please. Tamiflu can reduce viral shedding but doesn’t mean you are not contagious. CDC (among others) say you * can*still be contagious—perhaps less so than without tamiflu, the research isn’t really conclusive—and therefore should wait until you’ve been fever free for 24 hours. I would never clear anyone to work just because they took some tamiflu, especially not someone who supposedly works with vulnerable populations.

I don’t like her. This story was a nothingburger. Ever since reading about her feud w xtina, I think she’s as fake as the girls she tried to call out in ‘stupid girls’

  10. equalitygadfly says:

I can get down with some of Pink’s music; but she, herself, rubs me the wrong way. She’s got a self-righteous streak that awakens the side-eye, in me. Honestly, I would not at all be surprised if her “flu” wasn’t as bad as she wants everyone to believe. What can I say, I’m a skeptic — and people like Jennifer Garner and Pink! pinch my nerves, for whatever reason. Maybe because they both push that “proper lady” b.s. that, in my humble opinion, sets us back decades.

    • Nello says:

Huh? Pink has never been a proper lady type. She is a big mouthed, wild-child, broad! Which is a compliment, by the way. Maybe you should know a little more more about someone before you label them. Anyway, I thought she did a good job for being so sick. And I get why she didn’t cancel but she probably should have gone home after she sang. The flu is very deadly this season and isolation is the most effective way to keep it from spreading.

  11. Rachel in August says:

    *gasp* “Our country’s national anthem.”

  12. Seraphina says:

My hats off to her for singing through the flu. And when you are in a public venue like that you take your chances with germs. I’m sure there were others probably more germ infested then Pink.

She continues to act like a class act.

  13. me says:

What makes her think her “hater or haters” are “poor” people sitting on “dirty” couches. You never know who is actually behind that computer screen…could be a wealthy man/woman…could be a lonely teen…who knows.

  14. Ozogirl says:

She had one bad note, but the rest was incredible. I don’t know why people are complaining! It was far better than Christina screwing up the lyrics or Beyonce and Mariah lip syncing it. Team Pink! I soooo hope she gets halftime next year!

  15. Magdalin says:

Just for the record, EVERYBODY who sings the National Anthem at the Superbowl is lip synching. It’s actually required.
