‘Ocean’s 8’ full-length trailer is out, and this is the real superhero franchise, okay?

The country is going to be a flaming pile of garbage for weeks, if not months, if not years. And personally, my “happy place” is never the sausage party of the superhero universes. I honestly couldn’t care less about Avengers: Infinity War, sorry not sorry. But Ocean’s 8? I care DEEPLY about that. I care deeply about an all-lady reboot of the Ocean’s franchise. I care deeply about jewelry heists and Met Gala drama, fictitious or not. I care deeply about how good the trailer is for Ocean’s 8. The full-length trailer dropped on Thursday. Here you go:

So Anne Hathaway’s character is in on the heist, right? Right. I know this is a weird thing to say, but I think this might be a good movie if you’re an Anne Hathaway fan, because she looks deliciously campy and funny in it. But really, I’m here for the whole cast: Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock as old friends and crime partners. Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, RIHANNA, Helena Bonham Carter (who of course wore Vivienne Westwood to the Met Gala-within-the-film), Awkwafina. It’s going to be so good. Even the premieres will be SO good. The promotional tour will be lit. Please let this be a huge hit.

Won’t see anything with Anne Hathaway in it!!! #cantstandher

    • Betsy says:

I can’t either, but I’m still in for this. I liked her in that one paparazzi clip after Heath Ledger died in which she implored them to “just be human” and to please respect their grief. She dropped the Anne Hathaway mask briefly. She still reminds me of my therater jerk nemesis from high school.

  2. Susie says:

    I. CANNOT. WAIT. I’m taking all my mom-friends!

    • Snazzy says:

I’m so excited to see it!

      • imqrious2 says:

Gonna definitely do a Girls’ Night Out and see it in a theater that serves wine! WOOHOO! We’re gonna have a good time that night 😊 (and Uber home 😏)

  3. JeanGray says:

I’d want to watch it more had they included a Latina. Seems they went through much effort to intentionally cast every ethnicity except us. Disappointed.

  4. Roxane says:

The wardrobe is already giving me life!

‘Ocean’s 8′ full-length trailer is out, and this is the real superhero franchise, okay?’

    Femme Panther?

  6. Gutterflower says:

I expected it to look more fun. I actually don’t think it looks very good and will pass. Clooney and Pitt’s original Oceans had more charm and the characters vibed more, in my opinion.

    • Domino says:

Yeah It seems like they didn’t flesh out what made these women different. taking movie characters and making them women instead of men isn’t really my cup of tea.

I loved girls’ trip because that was about female friendship, and it was unique and hilarious. Whereas trying to make cate blanchett and sandra the new matt and george feels meh. We’ll see.

    • tracking says:

Agreed, unfortunately. My hopes are not very high based on the trailers.

    • Carrie1 says:

Yep ditto all of you. I’m so disappointed. Most of the actors are favs.

  7. Beluga says:

Oh yeah I am so down for my all-lady heist film!

  8. Lucy says:

Girl, YES. THIS IS SO. MUCH. YES. June can’t come fast enough, I’m telling you.

  9. Jess says:

I can’t wait for this movie! I am a superhero buff and Black Panther was my most-anticipated film of 2018 (and it is amazing) but this movie, Wrinkle in Time, and Crazy Rich Asians were all a close second. But I hear and agree with the disappointment of a poster above, it would have been nice to have had some Latin representation as well. I love most of these actresses but would have been happy to see someone else take Anne’s place (I’m not a HathaHater but I don’t get her appeal as an actress at all – she’s the only part of Devil Wears Prada that I don’t like).

    • imqrious2 says:

I can’t wait for Crazy Rich Asians! After reading the trilogy, and seeing the casting, I think it’s going to be a hoot! 😊. Loved the books, esp. the first one.

  10. Betsy says:

It looks really good. Though I could have done without the constant Linda Ronstadt refrain. Usually Soderberg music is so interesting and on point.

  11. Hoping says:

I was so excited fort this until I saw Corden. Joy really lasts a moment in our lives, 0:2 secs to be precise.

  12. jess1632 says:

I am here for Anne and rih!! This looks like a good time. Can’t wait

  13. AmandaPanda says:

The dialogue seems really flat – I don’t know, I expected something punchier. Will probs see it but am a bit worried based on that trailer.

    • PGrant's Girl says:

Yeah, it looks … not good? Considering the cast I thought I’d be more interested, but both trailers haven’t looked great. I might watch it on Netflix if nothing else is on my watch list.

    • Veronica T says:

I think at the least it will be fun, and I never go to the movies, but will go see this. I want to see something fun. Life with Trump has been NO fun at all.

  14. Muprhy says:

    When does it come out?

(Ok I’ll google it but it would be handy to say when it comes out)

  15. CharlotteCharlotte says:

Over Corden and cancelled Cate a while back, but I’m sure I will spend some amount of money to see this at some point. My love for Rihanna and Sarah will win out.

  16. Case says:

This looks fun. Even though I’m not much of an Anne fan I’m happy to see her back — she’s a pretty good actress and I believe was unfairly treated simply because she’s “unlikable.” Meanwhile, actors who beat their wives continue to be praised and get work. Ugh.

  17. Nick2b says:

I thought everyone cancelled Cate Blanchett? We’re back to liking her now?

    • manta says:

Na. It’s like I predicted on the last Blanchette thread. Cancelled until the movie with the women revered on this site comes out.
Rihanna, the can do no wrong goddess, Kaling and Bullock, two other darlings will make dear Cate cool by association.
Wait till the promo tour starts. The ladies in full force on every late show, spilling the cute anecdotes, fawning on one another, cancellation will be history.

    • Lady D says:

I cancelled Cate. She stays cancelled.

    • annabanana says:

      Hahahaha exactly!

  18. Joy says:

I’m watching this just to see Rihanna- love her. But looking forward to this film , hope it lives up to the hype. Great cast, the chemistry between the actors in the original films made the films work, I hope it’s similar here. Sarah Paulson is pretty awesome too.

  19. Mo' Comments Mo' Problems says:

You know who this film is missing? Constance Wu. She would’ve been a badass addition to this. P.S. Loving the amount of Asian American representation in this film.

  20. serena says:

Honestly, I like a movie full of talented ladies but most of all I’m excited for Rihanna. She looks even more badass in this role!

  21. Lucy2 says:

I’m excited to see this. Hard to tell much from a trailer, hopefully the reviews are good and it does well. Love the cast, though I could do without James Cordon.

  22. DesertReal says:

I’m going to redbox the hell outta this.
I will be seeing Avengers opening weekend though, sorry not sorry.

  23. raincoaster says:

This movie is going to make a fortune, just off me! I hope they merchandise the hell out of it and I can buy everything (except Cate’s wig, that’s a No).

  24. No Doubtful says:

It’s not a great trailer or cast IMO. It looks like an exact knock off of the first Ocean’s 11 movie. I will see it for Sandra though.
