Drake finally acknowledges that he has a son on his new album ‘Scorpion’

A post shared by champagnepapi (@champagnepapi) on

I enjoyed the Pusha T/Drake beef last month. It was fun, mostly because it felt like Pusha did some kind of next-level manipulation and Drake fell head-first into his trap. You can read a full recap here, but I’ll summarize: Pusha made some vague criticism of Drake, Drake responded with the diss song “Infared,” and Pusha then went nuclear with “The Story of Adidon,” where he revealed that Drake has been hiding the fact that he fathered a son named Adonis, and that Drake is an absentee father to Adonis and that Drake was only going to acknowledge the boy to shill for his Adidas contract. Drake responded by leaking to TMZ, and by putting a $10K reward for information about Pusha’s personal life. Allegedly, some hip-hop godfathers had to get involved and call for peace. Pusha has since confirmed that the beef is over (and that he won). And now Drake is free to announce to the world that, oh yeah, he does have a son. Yeah, Drake. We knew that. Pusha told us all about him.

Drake just dropped a big bombshell — he’s a daddy! The 31-year-old rapper confirmed the long-rumored news that he fathered a child with French former adult-film star Sophie Brussaux on his new double album Scorpion, which was released just before midnight Thursday on Apple Music. In his track “Emotionless”, which samples Mariah Carey, the Canadian declares “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world/I was hiding the world from my kid.”

“Breakin’ news in my life I don’t run to the blogs/ The only ones I wanna tell are the ones I can call,” he adds. Drake then seemingly addresses his relationship with his son’s mother by referencing Michael Jackson‘s hit “Billie Jean” in the song “March 14”.

“She’s not my lover like Billie Jean but the kid is mine/ Sandi used to tell me all it takes it one time, and all it took was one time/ S—, we only met two times, two times,” he raps, referring to his mom Sandi Graham. “I used to challenge my parents on every album/ Now I’m embarrassed to tell them I ended up as a co-parent/ Always promised the family unit/ I wanted it to be different because I’ve been through it.”

On the track, Drake confirms his son was born October 11 and says he celebrated in Miami when the DNA test confirmed he was the little boy’s father. However, Drake also reveals while he rushed out and bought a crib for his son, he has only met the boy once at Christmas time.

[From People]

I mean… of course Drake has the right to tell his own version of events and acknowledge his son publicly in his own way. But I feel like Drake was just full-in scrambling after Pusha’s “Story of Adidon.” Drake had to write and record new music, he had to change the album title, he had to change the schedule for when he was going to release everything. This is the product of that scramble, and these are just excuses. Oh well, I’m sure Scorpion will sell millions of copies.

OK Deadbeat Papi. I read the lyrics of that song and I’m just sad for the baby.
(Kaiser, Infrared is Pusha’s track, it’s on his album Daytona. Drake responded with Duppy freestyle and then Pusha crucified him with the story of Adidon.)

    • Aaliyah says:

There is a lot of misinformation in the above.
      1. The amount was allegedly 100k
      2. He didn’t change the name of the album
      3. He didn’t change the schedule of its release
      4. The child was supposedly born in october (11th) and allegedly the DNA test came out positve in March (14th)

Therefore, he found out approx between 3 – 8 months before Pusha went live with the information. He says that he was trying to process it because the girl had already gone to the blogs. He also said that he is deeply disappointed in himself and has only seen the baby once as he and his baby mama try to chart a way forward since they had only met twice twice and are basically strangers who don’t get along.

That’s all. He is not a deadbeat.

      • PoodleMama says:

No matter the circumstances only seeing a baby once after finding out “3-8 months ago” isn’t exactly father of the year material. And really isn’t a refutation of Pusha’s assertion that he’s a deadbeat.

      • Ozogirl says:

He has only seen his kid once LAST YEAR! That’s pretty deadbeat to me. He might pay for the kid, but he sure doesn’t see him.

      • KHC says:

        Deadbeat x a million

      • Reef says:

lol the Graham crackers are so cute. 🗣 “He’s not a dead beat” in reference to a man who has only seen his 1 year old son once, but has seen a multitude of strippers in Houston and Atlanta a bunch of times during that same period.

      • Char says:

He only took a DNA test five months after the kid was born? Really? But hey, he gave the baby a crib the only time he visited, so he clearly is a great father, he was even letting the baby profit from Adidas, that’s father material.

      • cd3 says:

I don’t know the circumstances… but could the mother be blocking access or could she have been delaying the DNA testing? Did the mom make the initial contact and inform Drake and cooperated fully with his request for access? Or is she making it difficult for Drake to have access? Or did Drake just ignore her / not bother trying to see the child? Not giving either side the benefit here… I haven’t listened to any of the diss tracks or read up on this, so I’m more curious than anything.

      • Neens says:

Meeting your kid once is textbook deadbeat behaviour. He’s not a dad; he’s just a sperm donor.

    • Pandy says:

Deadbeat Papi – you win lollll!!! Seriously, he’s not in the running for Papi of the Year. What a tool.

  2. Mgsota says:

No surprise here. That women was very believable when the news came out she was pregnant. She hired big time lawyers and demanded a DNA test. Plus there were pics of them together during that timeframe. Then she went radio silent. Obviously the baby was confirmed his and she started getting financial support.

    • Masamf says:

Thanks for this info. I’m not a Drake fan (nor Pusha’s for that matter) and I have no dog in this fight. However, I feel like, as always, we are all jumping on Drake without having all the facts. We don’t know what info Pusha decided to leave out of his story just to push his own narrative. I’m looking at the tidbits we have here and I’m thinking, so if the baby mama is getting financial support, how does that make Drake a deadbeat father? Even if he had acknowledged the kid right away and went and seen him more than once he still would not be there to change diapers etc, his schedule wouldn’t allow that. And is the woman Canadian or American? If she isn’t, is Drake supposed to uproot himself and move to another country to be with the kid? Or is the woman supposed to throw everything away and move close to a guy she barely knows? This is such a sad story where 2 adults behaved stupidly and had sex without any protection which resulted in a kid, and a kid obviously none of them was prepared for. If the woman wanted money in the first place, then she got her wish but at what cost? She has a baby with a guy that can’t even be in the same room with her. Obviously she gonna raise the kid as a single parent. And even if he supports the kid till he’s 18, there’s always gonna be resentment on Drake’s part towards the woman and the kid. So in the long run, the kid pays the steepest price for his parents stupidity. There’s no winner in this story, only losers.
And that Pusha guy? If “top guns” stepped in to calm the storm, chances are Drake would have won this but a lot of people would have need dragged down in the mess together with Pusha and it would have been very ugly. Maybe the “big guns” together with Pusha had a lot at stake.

      • Edwin says:

Boo Hoo, here it is ur not a Drake Fan however ur making every excuse in the world for him. If it was so complicated for him y have sex unprotected. The only reason we even know about his son is due to a rap diss. I hold no sympathy for grown men having unprotected sexual that produces children and there reasoning for not being in the child’s life. End of story! And no thanks for ur dissertation!!!

  3. Loopy says:

And he is shamelessly still distancing himself from the mother. We don’t need to.know how.many times you met…the result is still a child.

    • Harrierjet says:

^ exactly. A part of me thinks it’s also too much information how many times lol. Poor kid.

    • Millenial says:

Yeah, he’s definitely being shady about it. Like, maybe show the mother of your child some respect? Ugh, Drake.

    • Chaine says:

I know, yuck, like somehow the fact you only had sex with her twice excuses you from being a decent father? I’m sorry, if you are a bajillionaire singer with all the means in the world, you could easily get a lawyer, set up a visitation schedule, and be there for that baby every weekend.

    • KHC says:

He is such a hypocrite. All his fake sensitivity and empathy toward women–in the name of raking in the $$$.

  4. Margo S. says:

I have a lot of feelings about this situation. Dude, if you have sex with a girl, and finish inside of her, if she’s ovulating, she’ll get pregnant. HOW DO MEN NOT UNDERSTAND THIS.

    • Harrierjet says:

Can I ask an innocent question here? As in I haven’t followed the story from the beginning so who said they had unprotected sex rather than it being a genuine (or deliberate) accident?

      • Mimi says:

Drake is known for getting groupies pregnant and demanding abortions. He’s not having that many accidents.

      • Ayra. says:

It’s always been said that he doesn’t like condoms. Which is why there’s always a panic from his team when a groupie comes out as being pregnant.

    • me says:

      @ Margo S.

Also, how do WOMEN not understand that? Was she trying to get pregnant? A woman knows her ovulation schedule more than a man would lol. Drake is a moron (as so is she) if they didn’t use protection…not only because of risk of pregnancy but also STD’s and STI’S. Does no one care about those things anymore???

      • Ange says:

Drake doesn’t like condoms, the results of that are on him. If it’s a woman you’ve only met twice you should be 200% on top of your birth control. Not much scheming will get past a man who takes care of himself.

      • Geekychick says:

@ME sorry for being TMI, but this is actuall y not true. Man can control his reproductive choice by not finishing, a woman can’t control and 100% know her current reproductive cycle, because it can change for myrad of reasons and factors at any time, no matter how regular it was up til then.

      • me says:

        @ Geekychick

Oh I know women’s periods can change month to month. I’m just saying the blame goes on BOTH of them. It’s not just on Drake but on her as well…unless she WANTED to get pregnant (and be sneaky about it…which is wrong on so many levels).

      • Babs says:

Me : well, pregnancy wanted or not, at least she is raising the baby. So, no, all the blame is on Drake.

  5. HelloSunshine says:

Uhhh why has he only met the kid once? He’s a well known rapper with a ton of resources, if he wanted to see the kid more, I’m sure his lawyers could get him partial custody or visitation?

    • dietcokehead says:

Easy answer: he doesn’t want to see the kid. He’s happy to pay for the child but not to help raise him.

      • Babs says:

And yet he was willing to use him to sell some sportswear. Lucky baby would have got to see his father for the second time if it wasn’t for Pusha!! Drake is a giant disgrace. I so wasn’t ready for him basically saying he abandonned his own blood. He is the worst.

      • HelloSunshine says:

Yep yep yep! He doesn’t want to see the baby but will use him for publicity. That kid better be getting money from his name being used on the line added to his trust fund. He’s going to need the extra cash for the therapy he’s going to need when he realizes how much his dad sucks 🙁

  6. Ayra. says:

So basically.. he barely sees his child, had unprotected sex with a person he met twice (not new if you know Drake)… Then he says he basically hid him to protect him, but was planning on cashing out his appearance by using his pictures for his Adidas line.

No mention on how he told her to get an abortion? Huh.. Classic Drake.

    • Geekychick says:

not just that, but initially his camp tried to besmirch the mother of the child.
ugh, Drake is so fake. What a disappointment.
there is nothing more unattractive, in every way, than a deadbeat dad. and a bonus: he doesn’t respect mother of the child(clearly, from his songs and camp).
      sad. just sad and disappointing.

    • minx says:

He is creepy, never got his supposed appeal.

  7. Ali says:

Clearly the best interests of this baby are not a priority:(

  8. CommentingBunny says:

F*@& off with calling yourself a “co-parent” when you admit you’ve seen your kid once. If he’s contributing financially, yay, good for him on that front. But signing cheques doesn’t make you a co-parent. Being there, changing diapers, bedtime stories, cuddles and burps, comforting and loving – that’s a co-parent. Lots of single dads do it. I’d thought better of him.

    • KHC says:

Pretty sure he has no choice but to contribute financially. So no yay for him on any account.

  9. ElleBee75 says:

Drake makes my skin crawl with his fake nice, respectful of women, love sick garbage. He’s just like all the others.

I’m also a West Indian who is annoyed by his constant fake island accent

  10. Jazz says:

Wow, so much judgement in the comments section.
If I was in his shoes, I’d be trying to protect my child too – regardless of the situation with the mother. Who would want their child to be hounded every day by paparazzi? Plus, he doesn’t owe anybody any explanation except his son.
And why is it ok for Pusha to expose the man’s private life again?? Oh thats right, to promote his album. How convenient.

    • Redtop says:

Eh, you can protect your child from the paparazzi in a lot of ways. Only occassionally seeing your kid probably shouldn’t be the go to move. I think that’s why he’s getting dragged more than anything.

Please don’t tell us what a great guy you are and how much you respect women when you think that being a dad involves just sending a support check.

    • JennyJazzhands says:

I’m sorry, but when has drake ever been hounded by paparazzi? I read entertainment blogs daily and there’s never been a swarm of paparazzi outside his home or studio, etc.

  11. KeWest says:

    Drake so had this coming.

As already mentioned he has unprotected sex so yeah one of the random women he sleeps with will get pregnant.

Given his lack of relationship with the mother and lack of connection to his son I wouldn’t be surprised if he only financially contributes.

  12. Mo' Comments Mo' Problems says:

Phew, child…Rihanna dodged a big bullet.

  13. Bridget says:

This album was always called Scorpion? That didn’t change.

  14. Janet says:

He never changed the title of the album…Scorpion as the title was announced when he dropped the single God’s Plan. In addition, the album was scheduled for end of June, so he never pushed the release dates. Thirdly, he took a DNA test after the baby was born, so March 14th would be this year, and not last year according to what TMZ wrote in May, which he confirms on the song. So no Pusha T did not ambush him, Push just took advantage of a guy who was working on sorting his issues and ran with it.

    • Artemis says:

Based on his reputation with groupies in regards to using protection, he’s gonna be sorting stuff for the rest of his life. He might as well become an accountant because I hope the other women take note and start collecting dem cheques instead if allowing Drake to bully them into abortions.

Insert Nene’s gif ‘whew Chile…the ghetto, the ghetto!’

    • Geekychick says:

@Janet. That is not true. the child was born in October. The mother demanded dna test even before(you can do that now). and a standard dna test doesn’t take 5 whole months.
let’s face it, he didn’t visit his child bc he disn’t want to.

  15. HeyThere! says:

So he’ll use his kid to sell an album but he has only seen him ONCE?!?! Gross, Drake.

  16. Lila says:

I’m sorry but this is just gross…is it SOOO hard not to have an illegitimate child if you’re a famous rapper? condoms are not that expensive.
this is a bad situation for everyone – especially the child who will always feel he was unwelcome, at least at some point. and his mother was never even respected by his dad

    • Jenns says:

Can we please drop the “illegitimate”? I know that it’s still a dictionary approved description, but it’s antiquated and really cruel to children. I’m an oopsie baby myself and I’ve always felt I’m in accordance with acceptable standards, out of wedlock or not.

I have no problem knocking him for not practicing safe sex with people he doesn’t know.

      • Lila says:

I meant that woman’s obvious desire to profit from encounter with Drake. And Drake’s obvious lack of desire to be a part of his life. The child is innocent of course

  17. Scotchy says:

Drake is the worst and it’s about time his false persona started to crumble.
He is so so so so gross.
As a beige Canadian I don’t want him representing us in the world, because he is the wooooorrrrsssstt( said to my computer as I typed this in Jean-Ralphio’s voice).
    Ugh

  18. Ellion says:

This the first positive DNA we ever celebrated / I can’t forget the looks on they faces / Got the news in Miami that we all now got ones that we raisin’ / Tell Jello bring some, uh, Rosé and Baccarat out for our cheers to the next generation / But this champagne toast is short-lived / I got an empty crib in my empty crib / I only met you one time, introduced you to Saint Nick / I think he must’ve brought you like twenty gifts.

  19. Amelie says:

Man this is so messy. I don’t think Pusha T should have gone so low to reveal that Drake was a deadbeat father with a kid. I haven’t bothered to listen to any of the diss tracks because I find rap beef to be so petty. But Drake shouldn’t have gone after him in the first place either. That poor kid is going to grow up someday and see how he was used as a pawn between two egotistical rappers who were just trying to one up each other.

I don’t know much about this poor kid’s mom apart from the fact she used to be a sex worker (?) but hopefully she’ll make up for Drake’s absence. Hopefully he’ll grow up in France away from this mess and lead a fabulous French life.

  20. Racer1 says:

She doesnt get a morality prize because she chose life, both of them were messy and reckless.

  21. Svea says:

Just another man who can’t use birth control bringing an unwanted child into the world.
