Amal Clooney steps out in Monse, with George, for dinner in Como, Italy

George and Amal Clooney dine with friends in Lake Como

Three weeks ago, George Clooney was in an awful scooter accident in Sardinia. He was apparently driving himself back and forth from the Catch-22 set, and at some kind of intersection, he seemed to drive his motor scooter head-first into a car. George went flying off the scooter and he was briefly hospitalized. Reportedly, he’s doing okay now, although I don’t believe that. I think he’s a 57 year old man with a history of back problems and he’s probably dealing with a lot of pain and medical issues right now, but he and Amal are just putting on a “happy face” for some reason.

Anyway, these are photos of George and Amal out in Como, Italy over the weekend. They went out to dinner with friends, a group which included Stella McCartney and her husband. Fashion note: Amal Clooney wore a Monse Resort 2019 ensemble – a pair of drawstring shorts and some kind of weird asymmetrical tunic thing. The whole ensemble is really ugly, and I don’t get her hairstyle either.

What you’re vibe from these photos? I feel like… George is trying to make this a normal summer in Como, but the way he’s clutching Amal’s hand… he’s dealing with some pain. My late father dealt with severe back pain all his adult life, and I feel like George’s body language is so similar.

I was in a car accident the same day at George, and I’m still really off-balance (in addition to EVERYTHING STILL HURTS), and it 100% looks to me like he is using Amal to keep himself steady. But maybe I’m projecting.

That’s my summer. I’m recovering from surgery that looks like they attached half a Home Depot to my spine.

Clooney went head first into a car windshield. It looked for all the world like a motorcycle not a scooter, and photos showed him barely able to walk a few steps to a waiting plane. But, if he can’t get underwriting (insurance) he can’t work – so I suspect this is performance art for studios/insurance.

I wish him well. This is the sort of thing some never fully recover from.

You’re not projection. I was wondering how why he whould be go going to dinner so soon after a major accident, he should be home resting. He was thrown in the air, helmet broke the windshield when he landed on the hood, then bounced off the hood and landed on the ground. I saw a few pictures of him about a week ago and he could hardly climed the stairs to the private jet. Also, He should be careful drinking and I’m thinking prescription medication, possible narcotics for pain. Btw, his wife was not dressed appropriately for going to a fancy restaurant, everyone else appeared to be well dressed, jmo.

I hope you ladies are feeling better soon. George looks like he’s in pain. I’m a couple of years younger than he is, and I know that any kind of physical injury is harder to recover from as we age. I wish him and you both the best.

It’s like the shirt and the shorts don’t actually go together. Would be great separately though. And ya, he looks like he’s in a lot of pain.

George has talked about his chronic back pain in the past. He stated its debilitating at times. Which is why I want to know wth was he thinking driving a motor scooter in the first place?! This seems like the classic tale of an older man thinking he can so the same things he did when he was young and finding out that is not the case. A 57 year old man with chronic back pain should not be riding a motor scooter!

  4. minx says:

I feel for him, it does look like he’s leaning heavily on her.
I usually enjoy Amal’s style but those look like orange basketball shorts.
Sort of like the tunic but it’s too baggy.

  5. Leigh says:

Wow, George is not looking good. He’s what, 56, but he looks 70.

    • Josie says:

That is not what 70 looks like. At all.

      • B n A fan says:

What, you’re saying he looks 75, 😂. I don’t know, he looks old for his age to me.

      • AnneC says:

Yeah, most 70 year old guys look way worse than this. I like that he’s not dyeing his hair like most of male Hollywood cough cough tom cruise etc.

That’s exactly how my unwell grandfather grabs onto me to get around. Not that it’s that bad, but that was my immediate thought with the body language too. I looked at him and could hear the sounds my grandpa Mooner (yep he got that nickname in high school, guess why…) makes when he struggles to get up and around.

    This outfit is FUUUUUG.

I know I should be over it, but every time I see a photo of Amal in that STUNNER Tom Ford dress I realize what a selfish person she has become. The fact that she blew off Tom Ford’s creation to wear that hideous other thing on the red carpet at the Met Ball makes me crazy! I would have LOVED to see that dress on someone on the red carpet, it deserved the attention!

    • Jamie42 says:

I googled. and you’re right–the Ford dress was gorgeous and appropriate to the Met Gala theme.
I also noticed, in the photos, that George was walking with her then as if his back hurt–as he is here. Though the accident would not have helped that amount of already existing pain.

    • B n A fan says:

I remember the first time I saw her with a George to maybe the Oscars, I still remember that glove she wore and George said she made it herself. She is someone you can tell loves fashion. I’ve never seen her in the same dress or shoes twice, I bet she has a seven figure clothing budget, she is blessed, I’m jealous.

  8. Peggy says:

I don’t think they’re putting on some show. This is just how Clooney is. Even when he near suicidal due to the pain after he initially injured his back, he was still working and travelling and getting out there. Only being hospitalised stopped him in his tracks. He’s just not a person who’ll stay in his sick bed and rest unless he literally has no other option.

  9. Emmet says:

    It’s about the optics.

His PR guy Stan went overboard on Gossip Cop to deny break up rumors.

Very unusual that GC hasn’t given any direct statements about the accident. He generally can’t help himself from making direct comments.

Sounds like they are very worried about the insurance coverage.

    • Ange says:

I don’t think for a second they’re splitting up any time soon. They’re both getting what they want from the marriage, whether that may be a deep emotional bond or the general benefits from marrying someone accomplished and well known in their field. I think it’s the latter but either way it’s a lot to give up if they split.

  10. Katebush says:

    I like her outfit here.
But have gone off her since Harry and Meghan’s wedding where she preened and posed for the cameras.
I love George but he does look older than 57

    • PBAN says:

It took the wedding for you. I think this woman is obsessed with attention. She wants the celebrity life. A life George doesn’t want. She loves the camera. She loves dressing up and hanging with anyone with any attachment to a camera. She married the right man at the wrong time.

      • AnneC says:

Yeah she’s a regular Lindsey Lohan (except for the going to oxford and becoming a barrister specializing in international law and human rights). Let’s keep this all in perspective.

    • CookieConsent says:

Amal is a try-hard and thirstier than those Kim-wannabes but let’s face it, George planned this whole marriage so that he could get lots of extra coverage via his partner. It’s the same pattern as before in his “love” life but this time the image projected is not Desirable Hollywood Playboy but Serious Half of a Humanitarian Power Couple.

Amal is just an average successful lawyer, nothing more. She was/is a junior who worked under QCs on a few high profile cases. She had observer status in court only for some of the cases she was doing PR for, not leading and acting as a lawyer. Law is a “second-tier” profession these days after tech, consulting, and finance (but some lawyers do admirable work) so the “elite” angle George is pushing is a stale one and makes him look dated.

Would be great to see another empowered woman in the media but how exactly is she empowered? She’s famous for a wardrobe that rivals Imelda Marcos’s, for being married to Grandpa George, and for looking for the cameras every time she goes out. George hides his thirst and fear of sliding into irrelevance better but they’re both as bad as each other.

  11. Eve V says:

I usually enjoy Amal, her fashion sense, and pictures of her and George together but today, all of the pictures of her in this article are rubbing me the wrong way. She doesn’t appear to be engaged with George at all (even in these newest pictures where he’s clearly in pain and seems to be using her for some kind of physical support) and always just seems to be posing for the camera to give FACE. I can totally see her practicing her walk/pose in the mirror at home (*doe eyes* *half smile* *FACE*). Maybe I’m just cranky today but these pics def irritated me.
