Johnny Depp is a mess. It is known. The only headlines about Depp these days are bad ones: he’s being sued by his ex-bodyguards, he’s being sued for drunkenly assaulting a location manager, he was drunk and high throughout his messy AF Rolling Stone interview. Also, he seems to have lost a lot of weight recently and he just looks unwell, and like there’s no turning back. Since I sat there and read the whole Rolling Stone piece, I know that Depp has some shady motherf–kers around him nowadays, including one guy who seems to be in deep with Russian mobsters. I believe that Depp doesn’t have anyone around him telling him “no” or “that’s a bad idea” or “let it go, dude.” Which might explain why the Daily Mirror published this:
Hollywood icon Johnny Depp claims his ex-wife Amber Heard “punched him twice in the face” for being late to her birthday party. The allegation emerged in legal documents as the Pirates of the Caribbean star sues a newspaper in the High Court. The actor was livid at a report claiming he is a wife-beater and criticising his casting in Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
In papers Depp’s lawyers lodged in the Queen’s Bench Division, they say he arrived two hours late for Heard’s birthday dinner in April 2016. They claim after the guests left, Heard, 32, “began criticising the claimant for being late”.
According to the papers, Depp was “not drunk or high on drugs” and had gone to bed when “Ms Heard, who had been drinking, became aggressive and violent… punching him twice in the face”. Depp, 55, “defended himself by grabbing Ms Heard’s arms to stop her punching again and told her to stop. He pushed her away on to the bed and told her he was leaving and that she should not follow him.”
There’s more but you get the idea. It’s not that Depp just tossed out some legal papers and only the Daily Mirror got their hands on them – this claim is part of some kind of libel case that Depp is bringing against… Amber? I don’t really know. But I do know that TMZ, which used to be Depp Apologist Central, hasn’t even bothered to report on this case. When asked for comment, Amber’s lawyer said:
“These allegations are totally false. One needs only read the recent Rolling Stone article about Mr. Depp and the lawsuit filed against him by a location manager, among many other recent news stories and lawsuits, to understand his state of mind.”
So… yeah, there you go. I imagine that Depp got high and thought this would be a good idea, and none of his sycophants would tell him no, so he dictated to his new lawyer this story about Amber punching him in the face while HE was sober. The thing that’s most sad to me? Johnny Depp thinks he’s being clever. Literally thousands of abusers try this same exact tactic, of accusing their victim of being “the real abuser.” *bangs head against wall*

A comment on Dlisted last night suggested that this is part of Depp trying to get his side of the abuse story out without violating the NDA agreement after the divorce. He does this by leaking these documents to the media outlet he is suing & then they will settle out of court. Just an idea, but I would not put it past Depp or the skeezey people that surround him.

So he now wants to prove that he isn’t one and all of these documents were filed during the divorce case, not now. Gonna be interesting cause we may finally see many things that weren’t made public during the divorce battle.
But I do recall stories alleging that amber did hit Johnny coming out in the beginning of this mess.

They both have issues, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t believe Amber when she said Johnny physically abused her and vice versa. She does have a history (didn’t she physically assault a previous girlfriend before she got with Johnny?) as well so it’s not really a stretch to say that they probably physically/emotionally abused each other.
It was a very toxic relationship, that much was obvious from the beginning.
Ugh I think Depp is an abusive POS, but Amber is also messy. Being abused doesn’t exclude one from also potentially being an abuser. That he abused her doesn’t mean she didn’t abuse him. I dislike Depp immensely, but I do think Amber played her part in this mess.
Defending yourself, by hitting back or something like it, when you are being hurt and abused is not the same as the “there was violence on both sides” situation you’re trying to paint here. You can beat a dog and it reacts. It’s normal. It’s even comforting, in a way, shows that the victim is still willing to fight for herself and has not been completely broken.
Being volatile and messy and being an abuser are two different things. Abuse is systematic.
Hold the door, I’m right behind you. I think they had a very volatile relationship where the abuse went both ways, fueled by drugs & alcohol. Amber is definitely no angel and Depp fell off the deep end a long time ago. This in no way excuses anything by anyone, but I think the waters are a lot murkier than any of us could possibly know.

There were multiple witnesses and evidence that showed Johnny abused Amber. Johnny’s the only one making these accusations against Amber.

@Clare It’s not the same thing though. Tasya was the one involved in the so called incident, so for both of them to say it was a misunderstanding actually means something. Johnny’s exes saying he didn’t abuse them means exactly that. He didn’t abuse THEM. It does not mean that he did not abuse Amber.

This is all very interesting… where were these allegations when they were responding to the DV report Amber filed with the court during their divorce? Did they not have a NDA agreement after Depp settled the case with her instead of going through with a trial and airing out the dirty laundry for the world to see? I’m wondering how much more of this mess will come to light and if the Newspaper can actually subpoena Amber to testify? Depp’s MO is to settle everything so that he never has to sit for a deposition- which is what has happened for each and every case he has had against him- here’s hoping the newspaper refuses and airs out all the trash…

Abusive relationships often have bad behavior on both sides. Just look at women who go back to their abusive husbands who say “I hit him too!” It’s just usually lopsided.
This is a good point. DV victims don’t always cower in fear during an attack, sometimes they fight back. Sometimes they initiate in a sick power struggle. But there is usually a main aggressor and that is the one who drIves the conflict and violence. Their victim is usually damaged psychologically by this pattern and makes irrational choices they wouldn’t do in any other relationship. Much to the abuser’s delight because now they can say “you hit/scratched/put hands on me too”. And in all actuality most of these instances happen in defense of an attack from the abuser. Johnny Depp makes me SICK!

The amount of times I had to hear from my abuser, “Well you hit me too” is astounding. What most people don’t take into account, is YES, I did hit him, WHEN HE HAD HIS HANDS AROUND MY THROAT AND PINNED AGAINST THE WALL!! I had to hit him to try and get him to quit!!! But you know, that doesn’t matter I guess.

@LadyD thankfully, we escaped that hellish nightmare almost 3 years ago. Unfortunately, the abusive asshole is still trying to gain access to his son, who refuses to see him, and he had visitation taken from him because he has two felony convictions (one for child abuse and the other for spouse abuse) . I have sole legal and physical custody.
The court feels that my son should have a relationship to both is parents, so they keep trying to force this by making him go to ‘conjoint therapy’, which hasn’t been conjoint because my son has severe anger towards his dad. But, the court feels that the ex is ‘sufficiently remorseful’ and is all better so my son should want to have a relationship with his dad. They refuse to see he is still manipulating the system and basically trying to get what he wants by ruining me financially. He has YET to pay any child support, but that can’t be taken into account. This latest court action has been going on for over a year now and I fear it won’t end until the kid is 18. (he just turned 14)
Why they can’t strip my ex his parental rights, based on the criminal acts, is beyond me. And yet, here we are.
@ChristineM since he’s not paying child support charge him with criminal nonsupport through the district attorney ( do NOT use the attorney general, from my experience they give them too many chances and then they start paying as soon as jail time is threatened, but by then you’ve spent years trying to get them to pay and all they have to do is send in a couple payments and the court saga will be over…and then you must start all over when he stops paying again). The district attorney can charge him WITH A CRIME. Do it! Get him out of your hair for a couple years.
Both Amber and Johnny are toxic relationship people. Abuse can happen on both sides and both have had past relationships report their aggressive behavior. Two messed up people found each other and probably acted on their aggression and abuse issues.They both need serious counseling and help.
