Drake texted Heidi Klum to go out with him, but she ignored him

With America’s Got Talent getting close to ending its 13th season, I guess there’s no better time to commence with the weird AGT judge dating/hooking up stories. On Monday, it was alleged that judge (and former Spice Girl) Mel B. hooked up with Zac Efron on a “super-exclusive” dating app. Talk about random. Now, it’s judge and (now former) Project Runway judge Heidi Klum’s turn.

Heidi, 45, is currently dating 28-year-old Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz. She appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday to talk about AGT and her new project with PR’s Tim Gunn. Heidi said that right after she appeared on Ellen back in February she met Tom. During that appearance, she played a game of “Who’d You Rather?” where rapper Drake was chosen up until the very end, where he was beat out by Joaquin Phoenix.

After that show aired, Heidi said that she received a text from the Canadian singer. She recalled thinking, “You snooze you lose,” adding that Drake reached out “like, a week too late.” She then admitted “I never texted him back because I found the love of my life.” Ellen gave her grief about not returning the text, which prompted Heidi to apologize on camera. She said, ”Drake, I’m sorry I didn’t text you back. You’re cool. I still love your music.”

When Ellen asked Heidi if she and Tom were “secretly married” or engaged, Heidi said they weren’t “secretly anything” and added that Tom is also German. She had a mini-epiphany right then, adding “maybe that was what I was missing….I needed a German.” She pointed out that, “We have the same roots, the same upbringing, the same understanding….or maybe he’s the first man who understands what I’m talking about. Who knows? But, it’s working well.” You had the perfect German right in front of your face just a few weeks ago. Girl, you had Hans. That’s the man you let get away.

I like Heidi, even though every time I try to replicate her slick ponytail for work I look like I just left an intense gym workout. I’m glad she’s happy with the second best German she could find. Yes, there’s an age difference, and having dated someone 18 years younger than me, I have no room to judge. Heidi takes it in stride. Back in July, she told InStyle, “You have to just live a happy life without worrying too much about what people think because worrying is only going to give you more wrinkles.” Amen, Heidi.

    Drake is so lame

    • Rhys says:

Drake might be lame but what I never understood is when did it become ok in America to simply ignore someone who asks you out? I’m not originally from here and moved to the US after I’ve had dating experience back in my home country. Then I began dating Americans and quickly learned that ignoring someone is supposedly better than just saying, “thank you but I won’t go out with you.” All it says to me is that the person is infantile or rude or a coward. But maybe it’s a different culture. I find it infuriating. How is that ok?

if someone i am not already friends with tries to hook up/go out/initiate something, and i am not interested, i often find it best to just let it lie. saying no leads to people verbally abusing you, trying to change your mind, or pestering you about why not, in my experience.

      • Pia says:

Maybe she was creeped out by him? I mean it’s odd that Drake took that silly little game so seriously. Heidi didn’t express that she was actually interested in going out on a date with Drake. It was just a game she had to do for a show. Drake comes out as too thirsty…

    • BANANIE says:

I think it’s pretty normal here, but that doesn’t make it right. Just because it’s part of our evolving culture doesn’t mean it should be. But I can’t imagine people going back to the old way now — too much vulnerability.

I love Heidi! She is just a living apfelstrudel.

  3. Astrid says:

    Never understood her appeal

  4. Enough Already says:

There’s an age difference but not eye-roll inducing because he’s 28 not 18. It’s fine. Hubby is 16 years older than me but I was 35 when we met.

  5. NotHeidisGirl says:

Yeah, no. We Germans don’t understand what she’s talking about either.

  6. stellalovejoydiver says:

What is happening in the picture of the Emmy Awards?! She looks so regal, that’s not what I am expecting of a Heidi Klum red carpet dress, lol.

  7. Anatha. A says:

She and Tom are as exhausting and fake as Hiddleswift.

  8. manda says:

To get the really good ponytail–use a flat iron on your hair. I feel like that gives me a really great pony when I make the effort.

  9. Zip says:

At first I found it super weird because when Tom became famous he was about 15 years old and looked like a baby. Heidi must have been living under a rock to not have known him before. However, I think he and his twin Bill grew up, got a bit more mature and managed to avoid the typical fate of child stars. They might not be a famous anymore but they don’t make headlines being drunk or out of control. I’ve never been a fan of their early music but I think they actually seem to be nice, down-to-earth guys. I still think it’s a weird coupling but at least there does not seem to be a problematic power dynamic. Money should not be a factor either.

  10. Snowflake says:

She has a great personality and looks good in this clip. I like how she dates who she wants and makes no apologies for it. I wouldn’t have texted Drake back either if i wasnt interested.

  11. Question says:

Why is Heidi dating someone so much younger than her ok, but Ben Affleck dating that Playboy model considered such a big deal? Isn’t that hypocritical?

    • nayru says:

I had a big jump in maturity between 22 to 28 personally

    • Veronica S. says:

1.) The age gap is smaller, with the younger partner closer to thirty with an established career, 2.) Heidi Klum isn’t an addict utilizing sex as an alternative to rehab and creating a massive public scene as she crashes and burns, dragging her family down with her.

It’s not ideal because there’s definitely a world of experience she has over him, but it’s nowhere near as unsettling as the skewed power dynamic between an older man with an immense fortune and a young nobody who hasn’t even reached the full cognitive stage of development.

  12. Lala11_7 says:

I get what she means about being with someone from her country…heck, if you can be with someone that makes you feel like “Home”…that’s AWESOME…believe you me…I KNOW!!!! And calling her new guy…”The love of my life”….

    OOOHHH…BURN to Seal…..

  13. ikki says:

Tom Kaulitz is a cutie (I was a huge fan of TH back in the day). Good choice Heidi, he’s a solid dude.

  14. Meg says:

why am I not surprised to hear a woman ignored drake? he seems so clingy and just too much-that would scare most women off at least after a while. I love how Rhianna called him out for the display he put on when she got her VMA award making it all about him. most women would feel pressured to play along in front of everyone-her standing up for herself is a big reason so many women are fans of hers
