Kim Kardashian apologized for her pro-ana comments: ‘It was insensitive’

Kim Kardashian looks stunning while out in New York

Kim Kardashian has been on a serious weight loss kick all year. She’s dropped a significant amount of weight – by her own account, she’s lost 20 pounds this year, and she’s done it by cutting back on sugar and changing up her workouts and lifting more heavy weights. I’ve said before that… I actually think Kim’s weight loss doesn’t look that great on her. So many times, women reach their “goal weight” and they end up looking deflated and unhappy. That’s Kim – in my opinion, she looks better when her face is a bit fuller and softer.

Anyway, I’m in the minority on that one. Everyone praises Kim for losing so much weight this year. Over the summer, Kim posted some Snapchats where her sisters were “complimenting” her by telling her she looked “anorexic.” She was so happy with that “compliment.” Several people were like “slow your roll, that’s not a compliment, stop pushing pro-ana bulls–t.” Well, months later, Kim is finally admitting that she was wrong. She was being interviewed on the Pretty Big Deal with Ashley Graham podcast and Graham brought up the pro-ana crap. This is what Kim said:

“I honestly, looking back in having said that, I 100 percent completely understand where people would be coming from that felt that way. So my intention is never to offend anyone and I really, you know, apologize if I offended anyone, because an eating disorder is- I know people that have serious eating disorders that have been in and out of the hospital for 15 years—close people. So I’ve like, been through- I have experienced it enough to have, like, known better.”

“You know, sometimes when you’re- you know I was, like, with my sisters and we were laughing and joking and it’s loud and you are- you know, I dunno, I guess, sometimes you can get, like, carried away and just, it was insensitive, you know, and it definitely wasn’t my intention though. And I think, especially my fans and everyone that was watching was supportive, like, ‘OK, look, like, maybe you guys shouldn’t have said that but I know what you were saying.'”

Kim said she had at that point spent a year working out six days a week with a bodybuilder.

“I lost 20 pounds and it hasn’t been easy. My mom even, maybe a month ago, pulled me aside in the bathroom at a meeting once and was like, ‘I need to talk to you,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my God, what?’ And she pulls me aside and was like, ‘What are you doing?’ She’s like, ‘What is going on?’ Like, ‘How are you losing this weight? Are you OK?'” Kim said. “You know, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, like this is so crazy! Like, don’t you see me working out like every single day? I changed how I eat, I work out.'”

[From E! News]

There were several problems all at once with the Snapchats that went viral, and I actually understand what Kim is saying about how she was just joking around with her sisters. But the second she put that sh-t on Snapchat, it was for public consumption and yes, she should have known better. It’s fine if people – or regular celebrities/reality stars – make inappropriate jokes around friends and family. I’ve made “bad/inappropriate” jokes amongst friends and family too, jokes that rightly result in people calling me out for tons of terrible things. But I try not to put that crap out there for public consumption. Kim really was putting herself out there like she was bragging publicly about being anorexic. And she does know better. While her apology doesn’t really change anything, I’m glad she at least realizes that she was wrong.

Whatever she has done to her body is awful.

  2. me says:

I think her face has always been slim hasn’t it? If she truly lost the weight due to diet and exercise, why didn’t her boobs and butt get smaller too? It’s so obvious her “weight loss” was due to lipo and body sculpting.

    • BendyWindy says:

Because she has implants and they don’t change size. I got breast implants a few years ago and chose a size implant that would be fairly modest on my figure. Then I started a medication that made me lose 20 lbs and suddenly I looked like boobs on a stick, because my body got smaller but my breasts stayed the same size.

      • me says:

Yeah but she denies having breast implants. So if we choose to believe her *cough* then she needs to explain how the hell her boobs stay the same size no matter how much weight she “loses”. She also claims to have done nothing to her butt either lol. It’s so obvious her body was created due to A LOT of lipo in certain places and fat injections into other places.

    • MoaningMama says:

Because her tits and ass haven’t been anywhere close to authentic for at least ten years… silicons and fillers only shrink when deflated or dissolved. Though I totally agree that the body she has now has also been nipped/tucked/blessed by a skilled surgeon.

    • raincoaster says:

Her boobs and butt are implants. If she wants to lose 30lbs she could just get all the plastic taken out.

  3. BlueSky says:

What in the holy f@ck is she wearing in that header pic??!!

  4. Anna06 says:

Agree with you on all accounts, Kaiser. She makes money off of putting her private life out there, so while I get that she may have just thought she was joking around with her sisters, that sh*t is not okay to put out there publically. I also don’t think she looks great at her current weight but it’s her body. I just don’t like when she makes it out like other women should want to have her body and weigh what she weighs. Look at Ashley Graham, for goodness sake!

As someone who suffered for most of my twenties with anorexia, it’s nice to see some realization from Kim K that her comments were inappropriate. When you have an audience of millions of followers you have to be responsible, IMO. I would never use any of the Kardashians as someone to look up to, but I know many girls/young people do. It’s sad that this is a fact of our society, but it is what it is. At least she is showing some self-awareness about the issue…

  6. Lenn says:

If only the day would come that she realises how unimportant physical appearance is in life. She is always so aware of herself, constantly looking down at how her body looks. Reminds me of Victoria Beckham, same extreme insecurity.

    • Brian B says:

It’s her business. It’s how she has come to prominence and why we are reading and discussing her. So, yes, it actually does matter for her.

  7. OriginalLala says:

What she has done to herself is a bit shocking. At some point do plastic surgeons not have some kind of ethical imperative to send their patients for counselling if they are constantly asking for new faces, new bodies etc etc. It’s a bit of a red flag isn’t it?

but I mean, what do I know, I’m not a celebrity with unlimited funds for constant plastic surgery

  8. sommolierlady says:

Just reading the way she talks gives me a headache.

  9. Wellsie says:

Is that grey suit in the top pic latex? I can’t imagine putting that on… I’m sure I’d fly into a rage trying to smush myself in there.

  10. Beth says:

She used to be beautiful, but she’s an example of someone who took the plastic surgery way, way,WAY too far. Is there a reason she dresses in skintight vinyl and fake hair every day?

    • dans le metro says:

Re: skintight clothes – maybe for the compression effect? It is often recommended after sculpting surgeries to wear compression garments. Perhaps shes so often in the compression garments that she now just likes the way they smooth and lift the body.

  11. Mrs. Peel says:

Like, I know I was like, insensitive, because you know, I, like, know people with eating disorders.

  12. Electric Tuba says:

Oh good now I can move on with my life

  13. Tw says:

She and her wonky hip can take a long walk off a short pier, as my grandpa used to say. And no, I’m not body shaming. I’m bad plastic surgery shaming.

  14. Ruyana says:

I’m sorry, but the hips she flaunts so proudly just look grotesque to me. Not even talking about how big they might be measured *around*. They just look like she’d have to turn sideways to get through a normal doorway.

    • leskat says:

How does she find clothes that fit those proportions, too??? I can’t even find pants to fit thick thighs and she has clothes that look glued to her. I wonder if she realizes that whatever the hell she did to her hips and butt have made her look wonky and disproportionate and she’d honestly look “thinner” or whatever her goal is if she got her butt implants taken out. She looks like she got stretched out in real like Photoshop.

      • me says:

I think what she actually did was get her mid section lipo’d to death. Her waist is so tiny now…smaller than before she had kids and even smaller than when she was 14! She made herself so out of proportion that it is so obvious her body is fake. That is NOT from exercise.

  15. Aerohead21 says:

What bothers me most is that people look up to her and her sisters as role models and for beauty. The way they have manipulated their bodies is not good for role models. It is the complete opposite of accepting the way you are.

  16. Navyluv1 says:

    Someone unplug this 🤖

  17. CocoNoir says:

Society as a whole is very judgemental about people with eating disorders – “You’re vain”. At the same time, it is frustrating to see people make light of the underlying issues by using it as a strategy for weight loss. I had two eating disorders at the same time. I did t look healthy. What helped was understanding the long term damage to my body. Rude people straight up say to me, “Are you eating properly? Your face looks bony.” Then, those same people say they’re going to do xyz because they want to control their weight. Another woman I knew was defensive about throwing up or eating tissues. She said it was necessary to do that or she’s br fat. She has a daughter who studies ballet. I couldn’t talk sense into her.

  18. Valerie says:

She looks like a warped waterbottle. Wtf?

  19. Ducky la Rue says:

Wow, those entirely see-thru shoes she’s wearing are dreadful.
