Cher’s 26th album, Dancing Queen, is a hit, debuting at number three on the Billboard album chart and selling 153,000 copies. It’s tied for her highest charting album with 2013’s Closer to the Truth and is her first number one on the Top Album Sales chart. I am not surprised, the album is amazing.
Cher is currently knocking ‘em dead in Australia on her “Here We Go Again” tour, which comes to the US in January. She has also added nine shows to her Classic Cher residency show at the Park Theater in Las Vegas. Cher asks at the top of her show, “So, what’s your granny doing tonight?” The 72-year-old legend is showing no signs of slowing down and I am 100% here for this.
Cher discussed the new album in an interview with Star2.com, noting “It seems I have a bunch of new fans, young ones, little ones. It’s great. I honestly didn’t expect it.” She said that although she has injected a lot of her voice in the ABBA covers on Dancing Queen, her versions of “Mamma Mia” and “Waterloo” are the most faithful to the originals, saying “I didn’t want to change them in any way.” She went on to add, “And the other ones, there’s no way I’m going to ever sound like the girls. So best to just do what I do and hope for the best.”
In the end she pointed out that“Singing is different than listening, and I think the important thing for me was to try to keep the essence of Abba and try to blend myself in with them.”
La Cher, who has never had a problem speaking her mind, says that success sometimes isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. “Sometimes I love it and sometimes I just want to tear my eyes out….Of course I have those days, and what I’ve learned is you just go through them and they pass.” Words of wisdom from a woman people expect to survive a nuclear blast. God, I worship her.

I feel like every time she releases an album she picks up new fans. Also, she need a #1 hit in this decade to keep her streak going.
New kids aren’t deaf. Of course she has new fans. And her whole life is a story worth reading about. Just like Tina Turner’s. They survived, despite everything.
I was so hyped to see Cher a few years ago in Detroit but the show got cancelled and rescheduled a few times and eventually cancelled. So I never saw her. I’m still bummed.
I never dug her music, but I always admired her hustle. I feel like she’s always been up front and honest about her life and what she’s doing – Madonna could learn a few things from her about being unapologetic and humble at the same time.

Omg, I LOVED in Mama Mia 2 when she showed up and Andy Garcia saw her and it was this incredible “ah-ha” moment and it was wonderful! I don’t love her voice, but she is just so great
I have not listened to her music really but her role in Mamma Mia sequel was nice. But I don’t think her voice there was that special the way many people have said, but maybe it’s different taste. But she really didn’t look old enough to be Meryl’s mother there! The lighting was brutal for the more older characters and despite in real life ten years only passing it was only five in the film for some reason. So they looked even more older than they ough to have, apart form Cher.
I’m really not familiar with Cher’s music though I grew up always knowing who she was. I was in elementary school when “Do you believe in love” came out (honestly the only song I know by her) and was everywhere and I really thought it was a man at first when the song came out. I know that song is heavily synthesized but it always surprised me it was supposed to be a white woman singing it! It’s great she’s had such a legendary and long-lasting career (despite me not at all being familiar with her songs but honestly that’s the case for most American musical icons for me!).
That’s so funny, I guess I could see that mistake happening. I am clearly much older than you because I am familiar with her very early work…so I’d recognize that voice anywhere, even heavily synthesized. It is very distinctive.
As long as Cher is in the fight, we’ll be alright!
