Will Pippa Middleton’s baby be used for sponsorships, like her honeymoon?

The wedding of Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank

Just after Pippa Middleton gave birth to her baby boy, one of the royal reporters (Richard Palmer) noted that the birth announcement was handled by a big PR film, the same PR firm which Pippa has been working with since she became engaged to Terribly Moderately Wealthy James Matthews. Pippa spent several years in a sort of wilderness, trying to become a celebrity in her own right, trying to become a party-planning-book author (sad) or Today Show guest host (didn’t work out). She also tried to bag a guy with a title, and that didn’t work out either. So when TMW James proposed, she hired a real PR firm to handle her image and her media from then on. What happened next was… odd. Pippa’s engagement was basically a sponsored event, from her fad diet to her gym to her clothes. The honeymoon also had a spon-con feel, like designers were paying her to wear certain things and the Daily Mail was paying her for exclusive photos.

All of it was really strange. Even looking back on it now, the spon-con honeymoon was especially weird. So here’s the question: is the baby being sponsored now too? Pippa stepped out with her newborn baby and TMW James late last week, just days after she gave birth. Once again, the Daily Mail was the only outlet to get the “exclusive photos” – go here to see. I feel like that pap stroll was organized by Pippa’s PR firm, in association with the Daily Mail and the make of the baby carriage.

Oh, and speaking of sponsored content, did you know Carole Middleton visited her new grandson and she was carrying a special gift?

Grandma Carole Middleton comes bearing baby gifts! Her youngest daughter and Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa Middleton, 35, and husband James Matthews welcomed their first child, a baby boy, on Monday. On Friday, Carole was photographed walking to the couple’s London home carrying a cardboard box bearing the words “My 1st Years,” the name of a company that offers personalized apparel and toys for babies and little kids.

A company rep told E! News that group sent Carole three personalized gifts for Pippa: a light grey fleece bear ear hooded onesie, a matching bunny comforter and a gray and white star-patterned knit blanket. The name of Pippa and James’ son was not disclosed.

[From E! News]

I wonder how much My 1st Years pays the Middletons? Or is the deal just “we’ll send you free stuff, all you have to do is get photographed with the box”?

Their honeymoon was weird. Like it was so blatantly sponsored and all the photos and everything….

This walk and the ensuing article/pictures seems weird too – links to the exact Kate Spade dress! Dress like Pippa! Buy their stroller!

    • Becks1 says:

I should add that I feel kind of bad because maybe they are just two new parents who are taking their new baby out for a walk and that’s all there is to it.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Pips wants to be some sort of celebrity brand ambassador, thing is no one is really interested in her. Got to hand it to her, she has hustle with the paps on speed dial.

    • Megan says:

I wonder who will be sponsoring the name reveal.

  2. AnnaKist says:

Now that she’s married to Not-As-Terribly-Wealthy-As-We-Thought Mr Mathieson, does she still need the money or free stuff?

  3. Chaine says:

TBH I’m just surprised they did not come out in front of the hospital and pose with their new baby for the press like the Cambridges, she seems to consider herself so newsworthy!

    • Maiglöckchen says:

I agree! Also, should we even be surprised that she may be using the baby for sponsorships? She’s the paragon of thirsty social climbing and so out of touch that she doesn’t get how unbelievably gauche she is. Her Waitrose column this summer was beyond insufferable.

    • someone says:

That might be because your assumption is wrong?:-) They seem to be leading a pretty quiet, uneventful life…I honestly think someone at the hospital leaked the information about her beig admitted.

      • Maiglöckchen says:

Entirely possible that my assumption is wrong, which would be a breath of fresh air with her 🙂 Given Pippa and the Middleton family’s relationship with the press as well as grabbing at whatever type of celebrity they can get (see aforementioned Waitrose comment), I was falling on precedence. I don’t disagree that someone at the hospital leaked the info. To me, the smiles on their faces for the pram (pap) walk scream of staged. Pippa is always keenly aware of when the cameras are on her and follows suit with a seemingly “natural” performance.

She doesn’t need the free stuff directly, but the visibility and thus options increase for ma middleton and James the marshmallow dude . That is why she is doing it I think.

  5. Rhys says:

How could she get the DailyMail to pay her when any tabloid could have their paps parked outside their house to get some “exclusive” pictures? It’s not like they can or would never come out of the house with their baby and a stroller.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

None of the other tabloids are interested, plus the Fail has been trying to make her and her brother happen for years with little success. People forget that the Middletons have a long relationship with the Fail’s current and incoming editor in chiefs. Both advised the Mids on various media strategies over the years.

      • Dali says:

Really? Then why did the DM wrote so many negative stories about kate all those years? Where did waity katy came from? As much as i remember, the DM was the first to give her names.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

The print and digital editions are run my different editors and I think that the relationship between them start around that time. They got in the bed with the biggest, nasty rag out there.

  6. Snap Happy says:

She’s getting stuff sponsored, and people dared to comment negatively when Doria went to support her daughter at the book launch. I like that the Middletons are a close family, but they are everywhere.

    • Seraphina says:

THIS! The Middletons are everywhere and have their tie in everything Wills and Kate do. And Doria was there to support her daughter and the haters came out. Imagine if Doria was papped wearing something MM wore that was paid for by the duchy. I wonder what would be said???

  7. MoonTheLoon says:

Y’all keep forgetting that’s how the rich stay rich- handouts aplenty! The oldest con in the book and Pippa’s playing these moron companies hard. How gauche indeed.

  8. Maddie says:

Did Charles (aka the Duchy aka us) pay for the coat? 🤔

  9. Busyann says:

I’m more bothered by the fact that Carole wore a jacket owned by Kate, that was probably purchased by Charles. Maybe Im being petty, but that just seems wrong to me.

    • whatever says:

You never know, maybe Carole bought the coat first and Kate borrowed it because she liked it and could fit in to it because she was pregnant?. Kate did borrow that blue Reiss dress from her mother a few years ago to wear to an public appearance.

      • BeanieBean says:

I thought it was a little twee for a woman Carole’s age. Or Kate’s, for that matter.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Its not the first time that Carole has been seen wearing something from Kate’s public wardrobe which the UK taxpayer pays for. If it was part of her private wardrobe then thats different. So it seems that the UK taxpayer not only paid for £1mill of renovations to Middleton Manor but we are also paying to clothe her family as well (regardless of whether it was borrowed). The Middletons are more like the Markles than people want to admit (on the make from their royal connections), they are perhaps just more discreet about it.

  10. Sunshine says:

Basically Pippa ain’t got no job and no job prospects and no projects of any kind. Therefore it ain’t unlikely that Pippa will make her children her “project”. She can dress the up and do sports with them and outdoorsy upper class acitivities and get papped and write counselling books about that …
    “My Baby’s first year”
    “Being a good parent”
“Parenting from a useless upper class chit”
“How to market your child because you ain’t got neither clues nor career”
    “Made in British Upper Class”
    “Golddigging and baby marketing”
