Britney Spears’ latest Vegas ‘concert series’ is selling poorly, is it too much Brit-Brit?

Britney Spears announces her new Las Vegas residency

Britney Spears’ first Las Vegas residency was a wild success, in that the residency was extremely lucrative and Britney seemed to enjoy being in one place for weeks/months at a time. Britney had stability and she was making tons of money. The money issue led to Britney and Jamie Spears having to pay Kevin Federline even more in child support, but still, that was just a dent in Britney’s earnings. Britney’s first residency ended in December 2017, and I think Jamie Spears was like “well, that worked out great, we should do another one.” There were negotiations for months, and Britney recently announced a new “concert series” at the MGM in Vegas. The problem? Maybe people are a little bit tired of Britney? The ticket sales are not great, apparently.

Oops. She shouldn’t have done it again. A week after tickets went on sale for Britney Spears’ “Domination” concert series at the Park MGM in Las Vegas — fresh on the heels of a yearslong Vegas stint that ended last December — her first month of shows remains more than half unsold, sources told The Post. By comparison, a 27-show stint for Lady Gaga that begins Dec. 28 at the same venue nearly sold out in the first week tickets were available. An Aerosmith residency that starts April 6 was 85 percent sold out in a week, according to sources.

It was only last New Year’s Eve that the “Toxic” singer wrapped up her initial Las Vegas residency — a four-year, 248-show run at Planet Hollywood entitled “Piece of Me” — which with a $138 million gross has her in fourth place on Las Vegas’ residency register.

Spears is launching the “Domination” series on Feb. 13 despite the fact that “Piece of Me” stopped selling out after its first two years in Las Vegas, an insider said. The series was announced on Oct. 18 — less than a month after it was reported that 36-year-old Spears will have to pay thousands of dollars more a month in child support to ex Kevin Federline.

[From The New York Post]

If you were in Las Vegas for a week, and you could only afford to see one MGM show, would you choose Aerosmith, Gaga or Britney? I’m honestly not sure who I would pick. I think the Aerosmith show would end up being a good time, and you would know what you are getting. Gaga’s show would be a spectacle, but I would actually put that last on the list. Britney’s show… feels like the kind of thing people will get tickets for at the last minute, when they realize she’s performing that very day. What I’m saying is that Britney’s the last-minute, budget choice, maybe? Her concert is not the one you build your Vegas trip around.

I think the people who would really, really want to see Britney saw her during her first residency.
As a matter of order for residence shows I’d say Gage, Aerosmith and Britney. I have only seen Aerosmith out of the bunch and they put on a hell of a show. But Gaga is bucket list for me so she’d be first for sure!

Britney just ended a residency and hasn’t released good music in years. As much as I love her, fans already watched and won’t be paying again to see her lipsync the same songs while doing some poor moves that don’t resemble what she did at her finest and wearing the tackiest of the clothes.

Sorry to say but right now she can’t compete with Gaga in terms of superstardom. Had she released a banging album, It would be different.

It was smart marketing, the 1st residency, but that ship has sailed. I hope they invest well so she has a happy comfortable sendoff.

I’d go for the Gaga show. Then Aerosmith. Britney… I’m not sure I would pay to see unless the price was super-budget friendly. I have plenty of her songs on my playlist, but I’m a bit too old to have ever been in her core demographic, so it’s not like it would be a nostalgic reliving of my youth or something. Plus, her show would be for sure just lip-synching, and the clips I’ve seen of her choreography in it haven’t really impressed me.

For Britney I think there are key factors to her show being a dud:

    1) it’s painfully clear that she does not want to be there. She puts no effort in
    2) she’s not the energetic, passionate performer of yesteryear anymore. She’s over it
    3) her show is kind of the same old hair flipping and skipping each time. There is nothing new to see
    4) she is quite rude to her fans nowadays / less incentive to buy the VIP package etc

  5. ValiantlyVarnished says:

It would be Gaga all the way for me. She’s amazing live. And she actually sings live – unlike Britney who has always lip-synced her live shows. As for Aerosmith…meh. I have never liked them enough to pay money to see them.

  6. Rojas says:

Britney been there for 4 years so of course the new act will be selling more than her. I bet you money it will be sold out on opening day. It’s more of walkin tickets instead of buying it online.

  7. DiegoInSF says:

Saw her on tour and she was so robotic… Never again! I would see JLo if she ever comes back and Gaga.

  8. Millenial says:

I would absolutely go see Britney if I were in Vegas… it’s just Vegas is not really on my list of places to go. Like, if I had lots of money (e.g. no student loans) or family obligations (very young children) I would go, but that’s not the case. Anyone who was really dying to see her already has, and the rest of us who *would* see her if we were in town probably aren’t flocking to Vegas at this point in our lives. Just my guess.

  9. Veronica S. says:

The group that grew up with her is aging out of the desire/time/money/etc. to really invest in seeing her, particularly in a place like Vegas. I love her, but I’m not surprised and was more so to see her contract renewed. Especially with Gaga as competition, who is coming off a very successful career resurgence with “A Star is Born” and who is known for her vocal talent.

So my really good friend’s husband loves Britney, I mean loves to the point which he even has her face and name tattooed. When Britney was coming to South Florida after her Vegas stint she wanted to buy them tickets to go, but they were several hundred dollars per ticket for just regular tickets. I don’t know the price of these but they probably are too expensive for someone who isn’t putting out new chart hitting music. All of the people who still love her either can’t afford it or at the stage in life where you would have miss work, find sitters, plane tickets, hotel, plus the cost of tickets is too much of a hassle just to someone who is for most nostalgic as Britney is no where near level she was performance wise.

  11. Louise177 says:

Considering her show didn’t sellout for two years in her first residency, not shocking this wasn’t selling either. Also Britney just did a short world tour. People didn’t get a chance to miss her.

  12. Meg says:

can’t decide what she did to her face and why, it ages her IMO. work that ages you means whoever suggested you get the work done was lying to you to get $$$$. her lips?

    • Clementine says:

Oh I agree!!! It looks like her nose and her mouth/lips. It’s so sad. I loved her look before!

  13. Persistent Cat says:

Gaga 100%. Britney if the tickets were cheap and a week night. Aerosmith is a hard pass. Steven Tyler is like a not as annoying Johnny Depp.

  14. Tai says:

I was just in Vegas and saw Cher. At 72 she puts on a great show. She is warm and funny and has a huge decade-spanning repertoire of songs. Pretty sure she didn’t lipsync. It looks like Gwen Stefani is going to be in Vegas in December. I would go see her. I do like Britney but she is a known lip syncer and I don’t want to pay big bucks for that. Out of the choices I would def see Lady Gaga first because man, she can sing, then Arrowsmith because they have great songs.

  15. Lola says:

She needs a break. I still don’t understand why her ex can’t agree to give her full custody for a year. I am not a fan, so there is a lot I don’t know but she seems like she needs a break to enjoy her life with her children and re-group in the process.
