The 2018 Governors Awards were held last night in LA. The Governors Awards have become a really, really big deal in recent years – that’s where the AMPAS hands out their honorary and lifetime achievement Oscars, and it’s basically a mini-Oscars ceremony, only it isn’t televised nationally or internationally. Oscar winners get to make longer speeches, and be truly honored for their work, and everyone Oscar campaigning shows up in their best gowns and tuxedos. These are just some of the photos from the event, which got an amazing turnout this year, so much so that I can’t even fit all of the photos into one post. In fairness, there was a lot of boring style that’s not even worth discussing.
Lady Gaga was probably the most extra, as befitting her status as the biggest hustler during this awards season. She wore a Valentino trash bag that looks like it’s made of taffeta? It’s a goth mess but I sort of love it.
Amy Adams in Schiaparelli Couture. LOL @ “couture.” I love Amy, but she wears the most boring gowns. This one is simple and pretty, so I’ll give her that.
Emily Blunt in Dundas Spring 2019. I like her in sparkly gold. I dislike her in a “crop top” gown. Please don’t let this style come back!
Rosamund Pike in a Givenchy jumpsuit. I love this. I love how ‘70s it feels. She could have done more with her hair and styling though.
Gemma Chan in one of the worst Stella McCartney dresses I’ve seen in a while. Every so often, Stella has to pop up and remind us that she’s a terrible designer.
Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein, and she’s giving me major Evan Rachel Wood vibes.
Speaking of goth… Elizabeth Debicki in Giambattista Valli Fall 2018, with black lipstick. I love this too, but I love the goth revival.
Emma Stone in custom Louis Vuitton. It’s not a total disaster, but those straps look uncomfortable.

All a big fat NOPE except Saoirse’s dress, but it’s simple enough that anyone with her frame could pull it off in multiple colors. Otherwise, it’s a really awesome gown that you could play up with some cool hair and jewelry. But yeah, everyone else’s dresses were not so good.
The only look I like is of Elisabeth.
At first I thought it was Kim Kardashian. Anyway, agreed on the fact Saoirse looks great, otherwise nah.
Me too! her hair and makeup make her look like a Kim Klone.
Emma Stone consistently has the worst makeup on the red carpet.
It’s just awful.
Gaga’s look isn’t goth, it’s her dressed in a trash bag dress.
Elizabeth Debicki’s look IS goth, and she looks stunning. Love the dark lip on her fair skin. Love the whole outfit, actually.
Those are some bad dresses. Why does it seem to be fashionable to wear the ugliest dresses out there? Saoirse’s dress is the only one I like
The Governor’s Awards seem to have become a stronghold of bad fashion. Maybe because they’re non-competitive and not televised? The guest list is insane though, pretty much the place to be seen….in bad dresses. 🤷♀️
I love Gaga’s eye make up. It’s so flattering and striking, it’s like the dress is a backdrop for the face.
Gemma Chan looks amazing. I don’t even mind that it’s Stella McWhatever
She is stunning and that color is glorious on her. I don’t even notice the dress :).
This post, collectively, has some of the most awful looks I have seen in quite some time. Also, does anyone’s face move any more?
Maybe Lady Gaga is trying to hide something? Is she pregnant?
I’m so, so happy to see the Goth revival. BRB gonna go listen to Morrissey
Why ‘Lol’ at Schiaparelli couture? It may not be Haute Couture, but the house certainly makes couture, ie. high-end, hand-made garments.
Ugh.
Did Rosamund Pike do something to her face, or is it just that she lost some weight? She looks different and not in a particularly good way.
Im glad emmas back to red, looks so much better on her than blonde. Although i know she did that for her netflix series
