Taylor Swift is still salty about all of the receipts/snake drama of 2016

Gwyneth Paltrow signs copies of her new book 'The Clean Plate'

Taylor Swift is definitely releasing new music soon, right? I wonder why we haven’t gotten any confirmation about anything. Tay covers the April issue of American Elle Magazine, her second April cover after the British Elle cover. She’s gearing up for something. But like her British Elle cover story, Taylor is still controlling the narrative around her and magazines are happy to let her. She’s not going to sit down for an interview. But she will list the 30 life lessons she’s learned ahead of her 30th birthday later this year. And those life lessons are… snakey. Slithery, if you will. There are some very real references to the whole Kim Kardashian-Kanye thing in 2016, when she got outed as a snake and then she claimed the snake as her own. You can read the full list of lessons here. These were the ones I found most interesting:

Be a snake: “Being sweet to everyone all the time can get you into a lot of trouble. While it may be born from having been raised to be a polite young lady, this can contribute to some of your life’s worst regrets if someone takes advantage of this trait in you. Grow a backbone, trust your gut, and know when to strike back. Be like a snake—only bite if someone steps on you.

On being canceled: “I learned that I have friends and fans in my life who don’t care if I’m #canceled. They were there in the worst times and they’re here now. The fans and their care for me, my well-being, and my music were the ones who pulled me through. The most emotional part of the Reputation Stadium Tour for me was knowing I was looking out at the faces of the people who helped me get back up. I’ll never forget the ones who stuck around.

On being the victim of petty bullying: “I learned that disarming someone’s petty bullying can be as simple as learning to laugh. In my experience, I’ve come to see that bullies want to be feared and taken seriously. A few years ago, someone started an online hate campaign by calling me a snake on the internet. The fact that so many people jumped on board with it led me to feeling lower than I’ve ever felt in my life, but I can’t tell you how hard I had to keep from laughing every time my 63-foot inflatable cobra named Karyn appeared onstage in front of 60,000 screaming fans. It’s the Stadium Tour equivalent of responding to a troll’s hateful Instagram comment with “lol.” It would be nice if we could get an apology from people who bully us, but maybe all I’ll ever get is the satisfaction of knowing I could survive it, and thrive in spite of it.

She’s no longer going to play footsie with white supremacists: “I’m finding my voice in terms of politics. I took a lot of time educating myself on the political system and the branches of government that are signing off on bills that affect our day-to-day life. I saw so many issues that put our most vulnerable citizens at risk, and felt like I had to speak up to try and help make a change. Only as someone approaching 30 did I feel informed enough to speak about it to my 114 million followers. Invoking racism and provoking fear through thinly veiled messaging is not what I want from our leaders, and I realized that it actually is my responsibility to use my influence against that disgusting rhetoric. I’m going to do more to help. We have a big race coming up next year.”

[From Elle]

Well, there’s that. I mean, I have no desire to sit here on a sunny March day in the year of our lord 2019 and recap and dissect the snake drama from 2016 You remember it. I remember it. Taylor Swift remembers it. And I think it’s funny that she’s still salty about that sh-t, quite honestly. When was the last time Kim Kardashian even referenced it? It’s been years. But Taylor is still SO MAD that she was briefly “canceled” online after it turned out that she didn’t really tell the whole truth about her dealings with Kanye West. Kanye West might not have made this bitch famous, but White Snake is certainly willing to extend her Sympathetic Martyr/Aggrieved Darth Susan act to her thirtieth year.

#TaylorSwift on accepting her body: “I worked hard to retrain my brain that a little extra weight means curves, shinier hair, and more energy. I think a lot of us push the boundaries of dieting, but taking it too far can be really dangerous. There is no quick fix. I work on accepting my body every day.” Link in bio to read 30 things Taylor learned before turning 30.⁣ ⁣ ELLE April 2019:⁣ Editor-in-chief: @ninagarcia⁣ Creative director: #stephengan Cover star: @taylorswift⁣ Photographer: @benhassett⁣ Stylist: @paulcavaco⁣ Wearing: @gucci Hair: @sergenormant⁣ Makeup: @francelledaly, @lovecraftbeauty⁣ Nails: Denise Bourne, @deborahlippmann⁣ Producer: Kristen Terry, @roscoproduction

You know, for somebody who wrote a song called “Shake It Off”, she sure can’t shake things off…

    • Wilady says:

I misdeal liked her before, but the Kim and Kanye thing made me see her in a different light. Now she’s being so petty, and it’s unattractive and immature. If she wants to laugh it off, like she says she is, she’d just freaking drop it already.

She was in the wrong, and refuses to listen to anyone who points it out because she deems them haters. It’s gross and self absorbed.

      • Nancy says:

I don’t think she will ever stop milking that situation. I don’t think she realizes how much she has perfected the victim scenario. Lose your brush Tay? I had a friend in high school who hid behind her hair. She was a pretty girl too, but extremely insecure such as Taylor is.

    • velourazure says:

Exactly. Does she not see the hypocrisy of “just let things roll off your back” platitudes while talking about stupid junk from years ago?

    • Good GRrrrrl says:

She did a lot to advance artist rights as well as #metoo. We watched her grow up, and she’s not crumbled nor turned to overt addiction. I cut her slack, no snake hate here.

  2. Hikaru says:

I would be salty too if Kanye released a tape of himself showing me completely different lyrics to what he ended up putting in the song but people not watching it and running with “proof”. But anything to call a woman a bitch I guess.

    • Kittycat says:

I would be salty about this as well.

    • Lolly says:

Are we going to need to bring out the receipts again? Taylor was in the wrong. Please read below. So it really annoys me that she makes a joke out of it, reasoning that having millions of fans have overridden her mistakes. Give me a break.

      https://www.google.com/amp/s/verysmartbrothas.theroot.com/how-taylor-swift-is-the-most-dangerous-type-of-white-wo-1822521310/amp

Edit: Kaiser I just realized we linked the same article. Keeping it though because it’s important!

      • Kittycat says:

No to show my age but I dont consider an edited recording as a legitimate source.

      • Alissa says:

SAME. She literally referenced the “I made that bitch famous” line when she talked about how even though she’d sold X amount of albums, Kanye didn’t know who she was. She picked the one thing that wasn’t on the phone recording to use as an excuse. When her initial statement said that she cautioned him not to release a song with such a misogynistic message (which the tape showed her clearly NOT doing), and then when she gave her acceptance speech her anger was about people claiming responsibility for her success, NOT about calling her a bitch. She pivoted to being mad about being called a bitch because she’d claimed the other two things and Kim had the receipts to prove that wrong.

I can’t stand Kanye and have never been able to stand Kanye, but she definitely lied about it hardcore. I actually like Taylor a decent amount, but it drives me nuts that no one in the media calls her out for blatant lies, like complaining that people said she was crazy and bought a house near her Kennedy boyfriend – she did – or complaining that no one ever makes a big deal of Ed writing songs about his exes and making it about feminisim like she didn’t use to hide liner notes so that people could try to figure out who the song was about.

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

Thank you. So tired of people trying to paint her as a victim in this scenario. She wasn’t. She was complicit. And when it didn’t fit the narrative for her anymore she lied about it.

      • Lolly says:

@Kittycat it was broken up into pieces to fit into snap chat. Taylor literally states in these recordings that she’s ok with his lyrics, minus the word “b*tch”. They didn’t chop up and paste single words together to make it seem that way, it’s her speaking. Which is actually the complete opposite of what she said initially when she stated she never approved of anything.

      • Diane says:

Yeah Lolly, this is some selective recall. Kanye being a misogynistic douche does not wipe clean Taylor’s suspect narrative that was exposed in this particular instance. No one came out looking good. Taylor should let it go and get over it. Taylor’s doing great, she turned the experience into a mediocre album and made a lot of money off of it, she made getting exposed work for her. Props to her. Kanye and Kim got more attention they didn’t need. Everyone profited but the general public watching this go down. Next!

      • Lightpurple says:

Sigh. A heavily and poorly edited (you can hear several cuts and splices) recording of what purports to be less than two minutes of a telephone conversation that lasted an hour brought forth by someone who was not a party to the conversation, present when the conversation occurred, or the holder of the original recording with a clear chain of control is NOT a receipt and only proves that editing is not someone’s forte.

      • Chance says:

All those “receipts” prove is that he told her about the song and the sleep together lyrics. It never mentions the made that b famous, and I’d be salty about that line too if I were her. Leave it to The Root to twist it though. Oh and I like that people leave out the naked model of her in his Famous video.

      • jammypants says:

@Chance, I found that gross and predatory of Kanye, under the guise of “art”. Still do.

    • oh-dear says:

it forced a change in trajectory to her image, so yeah – of course she is still living with it. She, like any successful business person, likely had a long range, mid range, and immediate plan for her work. I don’t blame her for acknowledging the impetus for a 2-year break, re-evaluation of her image and content, aesthetic, and so on. And I do think the Kanye-Kardhasian tape was edited and some more of the story was left out.

    • Dara says:

Are we supposed to completely disregard the fact that Taylor herself lied, quite often, about this for months, long before the recordings were made public? And every time she got caught in the lie her story changed.

First she said they never spoke on the phone, then she remembered they did speak but it wasn’t about lyrics. Then she denied ever approving any specific lyrics, even though she did essentially tell Kanye to write what he wanted and she would publicly own knowing about it ahead of time. Then, when push came to shove, she not only didn’t say she was in on the joke, she not-so-subtly trashed him and his song. Finally, when the entire thing unraveled, her last line of defense was that she never heard him use the word bitch. I believe that last part is true, but it doesn’t completely absolve her of her own actions in all this.

      • Karine says:

I agree that she got caught in a public lie. And I’m a Taylor fan. I think that those lies are the “mistakes” she keeps refering to.

I believe, however, that she did feel very violated from Kanye recording their private conversations. Celebrities have private and public persona. It’s normal that they do not completely reveal themselves to the public eye, because no one would want to live in a zoo.

Ultimately, I think she was cool with the song originally but was then advise by her team, after her talk with Kanye, to NOT support the song publicly. She has a duty to the young fan she influences, which she has taken very seriously throughout the years (not being seen clubbing or drinking before she was 21, not being overtly sexual, etc). I strongly believe her PR team told her this was not doable and she chose to go another route publicly. Now, the thing is, her saying she hated the song did NOT hurt Kanye’s career in any way. On the contrary, beefs are actually really good for hip-hop culture and have been used as a ploy to publicize albums. Their demographic do not overlap (mostly) and therefore, while she and Kanye could have been cool privately, I think it was the right move for her to deny him publicly. And it was good for him too! People talked about famous a LOT and part of it was her saying she hated it and her grammy speech. He made money off that shit.

Then, the releasing of the tape was a violation. Even if she was lying publicly . They all do to a certain extent. Recording someone else secretly, especially a celebrity, is a big deal. I’m assuming they all put trust into one another that they will let each other handle their own narratives.

About her being still “salty”, she’s writing an op-ed about the lessons she learned. She has to talk about the past. I think she’s over it, she’s just rehashing since she’s describing how she felt in the past couple of years and the lessons she then learned from it.

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

@Karine – so let me get this straight. You think that Kim releasing the tape was a violation? But not Taylor flat out publicly LYING on Kanye about what took place? You think that Kim and Kanye should have just allowed her to publicly slander him because…why exactly??

      • Dara says:

I’m not so sure it was her team that convinced her to do the 180. Taylor herself is very tuned in to what her fans are saying about her, and what they are saying about their own feelings. I think she saw they were enraged and upset after Famous came out, and she thought better of telling them “joke’s on you, I knew about it all along”.

Taylor has done very well by knowing exactly what her fans think, hope and dream and then selling them things that feed into those hopes and dreams. Knowing how to tap into that is one of her greatest assets. It’s also one of her glaring weaknesses, some of her biggest missteps have been because she tried to give her fans too much of what she thought they wanted.

      • Nancy says:

What surprised me the most was Kim’s ability to keep quiet all those months knowing Taylor was lying through her teeth. She still wants to keep the princess alive….are you going to believe me or your lying ears. She got caught red handed and still won’t own it. Has always been and probably always will be a spoiled brat. Perhaps for the only time ever, I give it up to Kim for her loyalty to her husband and exposing a liar.

    • Shannon Malcom says:

^^^ cosign. I can absolutely see her still being salty about this. I would be.

  3. Kittycat says:

Kim actually has mentioned this many times in the past few years.

But why shouldn’t Taylor still feel terrible about being cyber bullied. She is human and hopefully has learned who to trust.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

Being cyber-bullied?? LOL. Give me a break. People need to stop throwing that term around whenever someone gets called out on their crap on social media. Taylor Swift was NOT cyber-bullied. You know someone who was ACTUALLY cyber-bullied? David Hogg and the other Parkland survivors. Christine Blasey Ford. Who was doxxed and STILL receives death threats.

      • Kittycat says:

Cyber bullying by tens of thousands of people.

But call it whatever you please.

      • kim says:

i agree. getting called out on your bs isnt getting bullied, it’s called being butthurt.

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

@Kittycat so by your logic Kim was cyber bullied as well. By tens of thousands of Taylor fans who left snake emojis all over her Instagram and Twitter and called her names and a liar.

      • Diane says:

@Valiantly Varnished… Nah, that doesn’t seem to fit the narrative her fans are pushing. “Cyber bullying ” that is not tailored to Taylor’s perspective certainly doesn’t lapply to Kim especially since Kim exposed her lies. The hypocrisy astounds. Taylor will never grow up so long as she has fans willing to swallow up her narrative and mollycoddle her when she gets called out on her BS. It’s a damn shame.

      • Kittycat says:

Yes by the same logic cyber bullying is cyber bullying.

  4. duchess of hazard says:

Ugh, if celebrities are going to go the way of Beyonce with magazines being willing secretaries for dictation, might as well just call the whole thing off. Swift could have done that on her Instagram or on a blog post. FFS.

    • Alissa says:

I agree. Either give interviews or don’t. The whole “I’ll write something myself or have my other famous best friend interview me” thing is boring and gives us nothing. There are so many great, insightful profiles of celebrities that are fascinating to read. I miss those.

      • duchess of hazard says:

@Alissa, seriously! A good interviewer draws out things that the celebrity may or may not want to have drawn out. Also, the celebrity interview is a sort of capsule about the world at that particular point in time.

But all of this with Ms Swift, with the Elle UK magazine (when she wrote about music and what it meant to her) vs this 30 things now, it’s very personal and specific (to her) to the point of boredom for me. At least if it’s a blog post, you know what you’re getting. I’m not buying a bloody magazine to read celebrities having a navel gaze, you know?

    • Nev says:

      WORD.
She is not THAT fascinating and she doesn’t have any mystique for all that.
Also she did lie on Kanye. She is a snake herself.

  5. Valiantly Varnished says:

And this is a prime example of why I cant stand Taylor Swift. She is immature and narcissistic. And OF COURSE she’s still mad about it. Because she actually got caught being the bad guy. And one thing Tay Tay hates is her victim narrative being ruined. How pathetic to be 30 years old and STILL griping about s*it YOU did three years prior.

  6. Deedee says:

I’m tired of that snake stuff, to be honest, but I love the idea of her getting involved in politics. That last comment was the only thing worth reading.

  7. Nat says:

I think it’s called PTSD as it was definitely a traumatic experience for Taylor Swift.

I’ve no opinion on her but I did feel sorry for her 🙁 I think it all started when Kanye marched up on the stage and bullied her that she didn’t deserve to win that Award.
I mean it was a pretty crappy moment.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

LOL. That’s not even what this is about. That was over ten years ago. She and Kanye had become friends and then she lied on him. And got caught. Stop making her out as a victim in this situation. She isn’t. And don’t throw around terms like PTSD – that is a real thing that people actually suffer with. Not a woman who publicly got caught lying having to deal with the consequences of her own actions

    • Anon33 says:

For the love of god can we not with this??!! A diagnosis of PTSD requires that you had to have believed that your life was literally in danger. Not because some regulars on the internet made a famous person upset.
Signed, someone with actual PTSD who is getting sick and tired of people claiming to have it because they had an uncomfortable but not life threatening experience.

  8. Beach Dreams says:

Team No One for me. Kanye, Kim, and Taylor are all trash in different ways. The way Taylor has leaned into the perpetual victim narrative (especially while playing up the “delicate white woman” trope) for YEARS is absolutely disgusting. This “growth” she’s claiming to have doesn’t ring sincere at all.

    • Nancy says:

Years ago I think Katy Perry, her former enemy, tweeted about Taylor, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I think that pretty much sums it up. What you see isn’t what you get.

  9. Daisy says:

She really thinks being called a ‘snake’ is bullying lmao Why am I even surprised… After all this is the woman who wrote the song Mean about a critic who said she sang off key in that grammy duet with Stevie Nicks (she did, it was horrible). Anyways, now a good thing: her hair looks very cute.

  10. DP says:

Come on, the way Kanye has supported Trump, continues to pick delusion fights, and the way Kim has excused it all and defended him continues to be ridiculous. It makes me doubt anything they have to say then or now.
Kardashians are terrible and they way they attack and bully people is terrible. They change the rules to fit their agendas. Look at what they did to Jordyn. Is it so hard to believe they did that TS?
What’s so wrong with TS admitting it was hard and sharing what she learned. Sadly, many teens are bullying or being bullied on the internet. To have TS share her experience and how she grew from it, may help some struggling people and might shine a light on how bullying and internet harassment is painful and unacceptable!

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

What does any of that have to do with Taylor lying? Newsflash: both things can be true at the same time. Kanye can be a mentally ill Trump supporter and Taylor can be a liar. One has literally ZERO to do with the other. And it’s pretty silly to negate one person’s bad behavior by stating that “ well THAT person did A, B or C.” That’s just a whataboutism.

      • DP says:

It means they’re not reliable sources. They’ve targeted other people unfairly and lied about many things. Logically, that makes me question their side of the story.

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

Lol. The woman is literally ON TAPE talking to Kanye about the song. And before you break out the “it was altered” conspiracy theory. No it wasn’t. It was a snap chat video. That’s literally how video is strung together on the app. It is HER voice on tape having an entire conversation about that song with Kanye. So it doesn’t really matter whether you think they are reliable sources. Her own words verify what was said.

      • jammypants says:

@VV, exactly, it doesn’t matter if it was edited. It didn’t change the fact that she still lied and changed her narrative several times lol

  11. Veronica S. says:

She’s always struck me as a total control freak (fair enough – she’s got a head for the business), so I’m not surprised she’s having trouble getting over the one time somebody pulled the rug out from under her. Shame, though, because she could do far more interesting things with her time and focus.

  12. Ann says:

I’m turning into a Swiftie these days. The Reputation tour looked really fun and I actually really liked that album. I also love that she’s finding her political backbone because that Aryan Goddess BS went on for way too long.

I made the same point about Kim not mentioning Taylor anymore on reddit and the die hard Swifties weren’t having it. To this day there are still daily posts about the evils inflicted upon poor, defenseless Tay Tay. I don’t think she’ll ever grow out of the victim complex when she has so many people supporting it. No skin off my nose though, I love the Snake drama!

    • Tulip says:

It was really dangerous for that ” Aryan goddess thing ” to go on at all. I’m glad she’s starting to challenge bigoted leaders, but she’s got a nerve ignoring the damage she herself has done.

  13. Ref7 says:

Clicking on the link for Darth Susan, the first comment says “Anyone playing Pokemon Go?” And that sums up for me how relevant the conversation about Taylor Swift’s influence is.

  14. Why shouldn’t she still be mad about this? The kardashians tried to ruin her life and career. You’ll find literally anything to use against Taylor. Especially considering kanye’s Trumpf love and refusal to accept the basics of racism and misogyny. What an odd story. We all use our most horrible life experiences to grow and learn, she was asked about them why wouldn’t she answer??

    • Alissa says:

I mean, she tried it first by condemning the song and Kanye, though. She was perfectly content using the “Kanye is so mean to me” narrative and letting him get destroyed when he tried to give her a heads up (she even points out in the phone call how nice it was of him to call her first!). Of all the things I can get mad at Kim about, especially in regards to her husband, I can’t get mad at her for releasing it and proving that Taylor was lying. I want to know what she learned about being outed as a liar, not about being cyber-bullied (which 1. cry me a river and 2. is not a new thing for her anyway).

  15. anniefannie says:

I can’t understand why she’d keep this snake story/ narrative alive?!? I realize she was asked the question but w/her infamous grip on media I’m certain she could have requested they refrain from any Q’s on this topic.
She appears to somehow feel vindicated which if this is the case, shows the kind of bubble she resides in….

  16. ohno! says:

    Pass me the sick bucket!

  17. Alissa says:

I like Taylor Swift, but find her annoying a decent amount of the time. I’ve bought her last four albums though, and will continue to do so. If I had to guess, I’d say she’s a fantastic friend, and probably very nice to most of the people she interacts with, but absolutely obnoxious if she feels that you’ve crossed her in some way. I’ve enjoyed that she’s backed off a lot with her squad and boyfriend stuff, especially the pap strolls.

I don’t have strong feelings about Kim either way. I think she has a lot of issues, but I also think she’s smarter than people give her credit for. I can’t stand Kanye in the slightest, and never have.

I wish Taylor would stop talking about this only in the “I’m such a victim” way but talk about why she responded publicly in such a way as to deny that Kanye had called her, etc. I want to know what prompted her to have such a different reaction in public than she did in the private phone call. Instead she’s turned it around to be a victim again, which is tired and boring.

    • DenG says:

Kim K is very intelligent. I had no idea, until she gifted her wisdom, that if one doesn’t smile, one will not get wrinkles. I now have robot dead eye face and look amazing. I still think Kim received that wisdom from Victoria Beckham.

  18. jammypants says:

I don’t have a great opinion of her but she’s human and I can see how 2016 traumatized her. But I think it’s mostly to do with her narcissism and/or perfectionism. She needs to stop being such a victim. It’s exhausting and she makes millions being a professional victim. At least now that she’s nearing 30, she can’t keep using the “people much older than me are awful to innocent young me!” stance.

  19. Millenial says:

This list could have majorly benefitted from an editor. It’s long af. Her essay in British Elle was much tighter and came off polished and smart (to me). This is kinda messy. Like, I’m kind of a fan, but even this is too long for me to read.

    • jammypants says:

I actually prefer this to her high school level essay. Less pretentious.

      • Millenial says:

I get you don’t like her, but high school level, really? I read college student writing (at a top 50 university) almost daily, and based on what I see almost everyday what she wrote was pretty polished and solid. Which is why this essay was a disappointment. What she wrote (here) for Elle USA was high school level.

      • jammypants says:

In high school, we all read Shakespeare and Fitzgerald. It’s not exactly genius work. I wrote essays on both subjects in honors English in high school 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’d be nicer to see her cover female writers like Woolf, the Brontes, or Austen. But that’s just my opinion. To be fair, from my sister’s assessment of her college students, their writing is high school level, so you’re probably not wrong on that.

I prefer her list because she’s being less pretentious and waffling about clearly using a thesaurus. The writing here imo, is the real her, self awareness or not. The essay on the other hand was her idea of herself.

  20. Chef Grace says:

    A lesson learned ;
When life gives you snakes, girl child, make you some boots and start walking away.
    Quietly.

    • jammypants says:

Somehow if rat emojis were used instead, she wouldn’t be so quick to own it lol (that said rats can be cute)

  21. Jb says:

The denial game is strong with her fans based off the comments here. I’m sure the next album will be about being some sort of Phoenix rising from the ashes blah blah blah. Mean girl/Victim for life with this one…

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

Seriously. And the sad part is these aren’t tweens defending her. These are grown women trading in victim narratives and whataboutisms

    • Beach Dreams says:

Yep! It’s always been “poor, innocent, defenseless Taylor” with them. All celebrities manipulate their image but she could give a masterclass in it.

    • jeon says:

Yes, it’s been interesting to see how successful Taylor’s new PR narrative has worked for some people. Even her change in speaking out publicly about politics seems to be a very calculated move. It’s exactly what I would’ve advised her to do if I’d taken her on as a client and seen that this had become one of her liabilities. Her previous strategy was no longer working. Similarly this new “no interview” policy means everything can be perfectly crafted. I have no doubt she would’ve hired people to help her construct and edit her “essays” which people are now saying are so personal and thoughtful (and that’s not to say that she didn’t contribute to writing them too).

I suspect you’re correct in saying that her next album will be about how she’s a phoenix who managed to rise from the ashes of adversity (and how her being such a nice person is the reason she’s been taken advantage of… she said as much in this list of lessons). Most of the points she made still painted herself as a victim and emphasized how she wants to be viewed by the public as a nice girl who has been targeted. Taylor really is a textbook case for a manipulative mean girl, I don’t think that will ever change 30 or not.

Aside: Love the body/weight confidence comments. She’s looking amazing and it’s great to hear a role model speak to honestly.

    • Barrett says:

She’s had her breasts implants increased like 2-3 times. I side eyed the body acceptance.

I will say her mom and dad are a bit tall and chubby so it may just be acceptance of her genes, that’s ok, but don’t tell the rest of us you are not plastic surgery free.

      • Beach Dreams says:

I do recall her former guitar teacher saying that her mom would buy Taco Bell for her brother but not for her, saying that “no one likes a fat pop star”.

      • Yes Doubtful says:

This. Plus she miraculously got a bigger rear end when she used to be as flat as a board. This girl has had a lot of work done.

  23. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I used to love Whitesnake’s songs. Still of the Night and Slow and Easy…ahhhh the memories. Something about a long-haired dude playing his electric guitar like a violin. Oh yes.

  24. Noel says:

I didn’t realize her mother had cancer again. It’s a shame, they seem awfully close.

  25. Case says:

I think it’s great that she intends to be more involved in politics in the future. I know in the grand scheme of things celebrity endorsements don’t do much, but she has a lot of influence over young voters and future voters. I’d love to see her use that power, because I think she’s a thoughtful and intelligent person.

Part of me feels like she should just MOVE ON from the 2016 drama, but the other side of me understands that the whole situation completely rocked her world and could’ve derailed her career. I’m sure that was difficult for a fairly controlling person (I am too, lol, I get it) and it certainly forced her to change the trajectory of her career and image. And remember, she didn’t give any interviews post Snake Drama, so this is actually the first time she’s spoken about it outside of her concerts. Maybe she feels she needs to address it before moving on to her next era. I do like Taylor. I think she’s a good role model — she’s incredibly kind and polite to her fans and COMPLETELY owns her business and brand.

  26. Annie. says:

It is a pity people are focusing on the less important parts
The body comments were good, her mother is fighting cancer again (f*ck cancer) and this gave me chills. In the negative way:

“My fear of violence has continued into my personal life. I carry QuikClot army grade bandage dressing, which is for gunshot or stab wounds. Websites and tabloids have taken it upon themselves to post every home address I’ve ever had online. You get enough stalkers trying to break into your house and you kind of start prepping for bad things. “

    • Alissa says:

Yeah, I read that and I thought how incredibly sad that she feels she has to do that. But I get it. But how sick that it’s a reality she has to face.

  27. JadedBrit says:

I think being portrayed as a dead-eyed, naked mannequin in a bed next to His Ego-Ness KWest would cause lifelong trauma: perhaps at the time she was immature to get caught up in the ongoing dramafest that is the Kardashians, but she is now trying to make a positive impact, politically speaking; has acknowledged that in her younger years she was not as politically savvy as she could have been and has remedied that fact; and is prepared to go to the mattresses over the literal hell the Orange One had plunged the country into. I personally believe she deserves both acknowledgment and praise for approaching such issues thoughtfully.

  28. joro says:

I can’t reconcile the fact that Taylor is 30yrs old this year. She doesn’t come off as some in there late 20s. Her brand seems to be stuck at 22. I wonder how she’s going to transition her brand into her 30s. Many female pop stars have a hard time maintaining their popularity in there 30s.

The only thing I like about Taylor is how she runs her business and handles her brand.

    • Beach Dreams says:

She’s probably going to head back to country-pop or gradually transition into full-time songwriting. Even if she does stick to pop, she’ll probably do fine for a while because she has a large, built-in fan base. They saved Reputation from being a total wash because the singles weren’t being received well by the general public.

    • duchess of hazard says:

@joro – Swift has a new contract where she owns her masters, iirc. She’s also doing songs for other people, so she could go that way. But just… no more of these blog like interviews please.

  29. Miss M says:

Should Hidleston be salty because Taylor used him as a buffer during the snake scandal? Dropped him and wrote a song about it.
He was nothing but gracious. Regina George could learn a thing or two from some of her exes… Let it go, Tay.

    • jammypants says:

I could see her jab at him in her essay. But I read it as her lacking self awareness and actually unintentionally referring to herself lol. That said some of her points are useful, like the one on stress.

      • Case says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed her jab at him in the essay. The one about getting to know someone beyond their ability to be able to charm a room? Yep.

I adore Tom and genuinely believe he’s a good guy (albeit occasionally hammy in a very harmless way, which he has tamed significantly). I’ll always wonder what the heck happened there — if they were both using each other for their own purposes, if it was arranged by PR, if it was a summer fling Swift wanted to be able to write about, if it was genuine and she was just still into the pap walks, if it was all a front to hide from the Kimye drama…so many possibilities and we’ll never know, I suppose.

      • Dara says:

The comment about not choosing a boyfriend based on who the internet thought she should be with made me go hmmm, too. To be fair, that could apply to almost any of her boyfriends, except the current one.

      • Justme says:

I think the “all that glitters is not gold” lesson might be aimed at Tom. The press coverage so far hasn’t focused on this – sticking more with the Kimye saga. Since last night Tom just began a 3 month stage appearance in the West End in Betrayal by Harold Pinter, I’m glad that (so far at least) that comment did not receive much attention. Let Tom have his success (for so it appears to be) without the ghost of Hiddleswift emerging. He was the nicer of the two participants btw. No nasty swipes at her in public – just “generous, kind and lovely”.

      • jammypants says:

@Case, the part where she said how the public reacts to her life, and that affecting how she sees people in her life, I can see that applying to Tom and her exes. It’s not so much how Tom really was in that coupling, but more how she saw him through the filter of mass scrutiny. I’m sure she cringes at the thought of him purely because they dated around the time she got piled on (some of it deserved, some not so much). At the end of the day, how she keeps victimizing herself and it’s everyone else’s fault, I think she still has some deep insecurity to work through, and that’s based on her own admittance in the listicle. IMO, blaming others is not a good sign of self improvement. She comes off a bit npd/bpd to me.

@Justme, she does have a way of always being in the press the same time as Tom. But hilariously her headlines don’t intersect with his because his are professional promotion. Hers is self promotion. Different audiences. When he announced Betrayal by surprise, she didn’t show up with something. It’s onky when the public knows dates of things like premieres, plays, etc, that we conveniently also get her stories.

I see her ways haven’t changed from 2016

  30. Pandy says:

When I listened to the “receipts”, I always felt like Taylor was listening with half an ear …
But yeah, Kum deserves to get called out for inciting bullying. (Typo, but it works!)

  31. Kebbie says:

I’m sick today, and all I’ve got is that she looks like a rat. I don’t understand when people call her pretty. Also, she’s got to be THE pettiest woman in the world.

    • Kebbie says:

The first part was mean and I shouldn’t have said it. I stick by my last point though.

  32. Dara says:

I’ll have to look at her list again, but I got the impression almost half of it is essentially stop caring so much what other people think.

Doing that is probably easier said than done for a celebrity, after all their entire livelihood is based on getting people to like what they are doing enough to pay for it, but I think having her self worth completely dependent on how others see her is a huge issue she’s been dealing with her entire life.

  33. SM says:

I am not a fan of Swifty, but I am happy to see she starts to grow out of the petty high school shit at least trying to make a point to her self and others not to be a petty bitch. Maybe she still has a long way to go, but hey, at least she is not responsible for small kids, while Kim is an example to her kids and still is a petty high schooler. So I strangely find my self on her side. At least she works hard and turned that scandal with Kim into good business and success other than taking nude selfies. And she stood up against racism, which is quite low bar but nevertheless important when you have millions of followers. Again, unlike Kim who sugar coats her husband’s stupidity.

  34. Amelie says:

I’m not a fan of Taylor and she clearly lied and tried to make herself the victim when she definitely approved the song lyric. But really, why did Kanye even bother including her in the song? Why is he so fixated on her?? And then he goes on to put in a naked likeness of Taylor in his video of Famous along with Amber Rose, Rihanna, and others. I doubt he asked for anyone’s approval in that case. If some rapper had done that to me I would be pissed and go scorched earth. My body, my right. Taylor should have just said no full stop, who cares if Kanye had ranted and raved about it on social media. But instead of just letting it go, Taylor had to make a whole album about it, embrace her snake image, and make it like she was so innocent and hurt about the whole thing. They both benefited from that stupid drama.

That being said, it seems her mother’s cancer has returned and I do feel sorry for her there. I just hope going forward I never have to see Kanye and Taylor in the same sentence embroiled in some other controversy.

    • Lightpurple says:

The other women have made it clear that he did not have their approval to use their images in his fantasy rape video. He didn’t have George Bush’s permission either.

  35. virginfangirls says:

There is nothing worse than a bully getting all pissy about bullies. It’s difficult to feel for her, just as it is to hear Melania talk anti bullying. Even in this interview she makes me wonder if she is dissing a past bf, because there was only one rs we are aware of where she jumped in head first. “Before you jump in headfirst, maybe, I don’t know…get to know someone! All that glitters isn’t gold, and first impressions actually aren’t everything. It’s impressive when someone can charm people instantly and own the room, but what I know now to be more valuable about a person is not their charming routine upon meeting them (I call it a “solid first 15”), but the layers of a person you discover in time. Are they honest, self-aware, and slyly funny at the moments you least expect it? Do they show up for you when you need them? Do they still love you after they’ve seen you broken? She’s such a passive aggressive bully.

  36. A says:

I don’t want to sound like a douchebag, but I’m going to anyway, so here goes: does this girl have any actual pop culture currency aside from this at the moment?

I’m not talking about her stature as an artist or a performer here, btw. I’m talking about that general memeworthiness of sorts that millennial performers sort of have these days, that’s very immediately identifiable and interesting. Sure, she was a presence on Tumblr, she posted a lot of relatable cat videos and such, and she had the whole thing with Kanye prior to that with the VMAs. But…that stuff wasn’t that interesting. She hadn’t been through real sh!t. Even with the Kanye/VMAs thing, she was a victim, and the general consensus among even her biggest fans was that her life had been pretty rosy. She was living an ideal.

This was the first real problem that she encountered that was of her own making, and it really made people wake up to the fact that holy sh!t, she’s kind of interesting. She has a personality that goes beyond wide-eyed ingenue, or Aryan poster child, or milque-toast blonde. It gave her public persona some real character. So of course she’s going to keep milking it. She’s going to milk this for the rest of her life. She’s going to be 65 and penning her memoir and she’ll still be shadily talking about how geriatric Kanye and Kim did her wrong (Kim, I assume, is going to get plastic wrapped by this point so she can’t decay, ever). She’ll always had her fans, but this made her real in a way to the rest of us, and she’ll never stop reminding us of that.

ETA: I meant to add this but forgot–again, I risk sounding like a douchebag, but I have to say it: Taylor is essentially the epitome of the petty, vindictive white girl sometimes. She may forgive you with a smile, but she never, EVER forgets, and she’ll always make a point of reminding you exactly what it is that you did. Even the parts and details that you thought were long lost to time. It’s kind of harmless in this sense, but it can be leveraged in a lot of ways that are profoundly awful as well, and it was honestly the first thing that this reminded me of tbh.

    • A says:

Also, the whole “being a snake” thing–Taylor, you’re a white woman who was born and raised in the SOUTH. Do you honestly want to tell us that beneath that awfully polite veneer, you weren’t a snake all along? Really? Bless your evergreen heart.

    • Kebbie says:

Remember when she said there was a special place in hell for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler?

Lol petty doesn’t even begin to describe her. She is so beyond petty, there isn’t even a word for what she is.

  37. J0 says:

It really is selfish and self absorbed not to be this self aware. Another instance of Susan Darths https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/man-gardening-black-case-sues-3-white-women-falsely-accused-stalking-pedophilia-120303797.html

  38. Yes Doubtful says:

Taylor…forever a victim her her own mind. What kills me is that she’s salty over Kim calling her out on lying, but she is not bothered by Kanye using a nude mannequin of her in a music video? I think that’s far more offensive than him calling her “that bitch” or Kim using snake emojis.
