VF: Prince Andrew ‘wants to do another interview’ to ‘show some remorse’

Prince Andrew interview

Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair has a SCOOP, people! The scoop is that Prince Andrew’s BBC interview was so very catastrophic. It was so bad that Andrew wants to take a mulligan. Yes, there are *some* people in Andrew’s orbit who are like “maybe he should just give another interview so he can say all of the sh-t he FORGOT to say the first time.” Was Buckingham Palace always this big of a clown show? I watch The Crown and I’m often aghast at the circular logic of royalty: something can’t be done because no monarch has ever done it and no monarch has ever done it because it hasn’t been done. That’s a summary of like 80% of the Queen’s life. And that’s how those royal advisors really think too! Anyway, I’ll stop yelling – you can read the full VF piece here. Some highlights:

Even the York princesses are concerned: Andrew’s daughter Princess Eugenie, who cofounded the Anti-Slavery Collective, is privately said to be “very worried” about how the scandal—which links Andrew to Epstein, who was accused of trafficking underage girls—might impact the organization. Nonetheless, Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice, as well as their mother, Sarah Ferguson, and the rest of the royal family, are standing united behind Andrew. It is, sources say, Queen Elizabeth’s wish for her family to rally around her second (and some say favorite) son.

The Queen has ordered the family to support Andrew: Despite reports that the damaging interview has caused divisions within the family (Prince Charles is said to be furious that the fallout from the program has wiped his current tour of New Zealand off the front pages), courtiers and royal sources have told Vanity Fair that Andrew has his brother’s support, as well as that of the wider family. “It’s the Queen’s modus operandi to stick together in times of trouble,” said the Queen’s biographer Sarah Gristwood. “She won’t have any breaking of the ranks, and that’s irrespective of whether Andrew is the favorite son. That said, this must be stretching it, because what he’s done is the least welcome thing anyone could do to their mother, especially at the age of 93. He has let the side down. Everything he said in that interview was couched in the wrong terms.”

Andrew told his mother that he didn’t rape a trafficked teenager: “As his mother, she believed him, and she still does,” said a source close to the Queen.

Richard Kay chimes in: “What we are seeing is the royal family’s herd instinct. They circle the wagon at a time of crisis, and that’s what they’re doing now. When their credibility is called into question, their first strategy is to stand by the family, and their natural instinct is to believe each other. If Andrew has told them he is innocent, they will believe him.”

Another interview?
There are reports currently circulating that Andrew could even be considering another interview, although Buckingham Palace says it is “not aware” of anything in the pipeline. “There are rumors swirling that Andrew wants to do another interview,” said a source. “Andrew hasn’t drawn a line under it. He wants the chance to put right the things he didn’t say. Newsnight gave him the chance to show some remorse. He was asked if there was anything else he wanted to say. It was an open goal—he didn’t grasp it, and I think he sees that now.”

The Queen’s new annus horribilis: “I don’t think it’s as bad as 1992 because the monarchy isn’t under threat the way it was in the ’90s,” said Gristwood. “Professionally, the Queen has come into this in a much better position than when she faced the crisis of the late 20th century, when she might have seemed out of touch. She’s everybody’s favorite grandmother, as well as the Queen, and she commands huge respect and is deeply loved the world over. I do wonder about the toll it will take on her personally, however. She has always relied on Prince Philip behind the scenes for support, but he’s not by her side in public. And privately, I suspect the Queen won’t want to place too much pressure on him or worry him. Her strategy has always been to put on a brave face. She’s very rarely shown distress in public.”

[From Vanity Fair]

“Professionally, the Queen has come into this in a much better position than when she faced the crisis of the late 20th century, when she might have seemed out of touch.” MIGHT have SEEMED out of touch? She was exceptionally out of touch when Diana died. She mishandled that so badly, and she doesn’t even have Tony Blair protecting her this time, she has f–king Boris Johnson. “She’s everybody’s favorite grandmother, as well as the Queen, and she commands huge respect and is deeply loved the world over.” Pouring it on a bit thick, especially considering this is the year many, many people have been questioning why the bloody monarchy exists. It would not surprise me at all if there were real polling data to suggest that support for the monarchy has declined significantly this year.

As for Andrew wanting a do-over… I mean… he could have actually sat down and prepared for the first interview instead of winging it and banging on about his sweat glands and Pizza Express and the “positive act” of sex, but only for men.

  1. Who ARE These People? says:

The same entitlement and warped drives that led him to rape girls in the first place, the same stupidity and greed that led him to be the willing pawn of Jeffrey Epstein in the first place, are still very much in evidence.

    • Harla says:

Yes, Andrew, like a number of men, see 2 types of girls/women. Those like his daughters that must be cosseted and protected from men like him and his friends and all the rest that are only there to satisfy and serve them.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

The old Madonna/whore problem. And the sad thing is, by dint of his behavior then and now, he’s caused all kinds of problems for his daughters. And what are the odds he could be an entirely decent father to them? He doesn’t seem smart enough to pull off a truly hidden double life.

      • Giddy says:

He’s so stupid that I imagine he thinks he is still protecting his daughters. Poor Beatrice. I don’t think that her wedding will be as much of a celebration as Eugenie’s. Will anyone want to see Andrew playing the fond father?

    • Turm alin says:

      1. H&M knew the interview was coming.
      2. Meghan knew that it was going to be a disaster because she is just that clever.
      3. They managed to launch the lawsuit and organise the 6 weeks long holiday, so when shitstorm breaks out and the BRF needed *someone* to throw under the bus quickly a) they would be far far away and b) they would have their lawyers speak for them publicly.
      4. Beyonce was right: Meghan for Queen!

    • VS says:

This man must be one of the most idiotic person in the news lately and that is considering what’s going on in the US with the Impeachment hearings!

    • minny says:

He just “stepped back” from royal duties.

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

I just read that. And THIS statement, that he obviously had NO input to, expresses that he “sympathizes with those who have suffered” (bullSH%T) and that he will “help law enforcement” in any way he can”, again BULLSH%T. I can just see him agreeing to answer FBI questions in the investigation if asked to come in. HA!

      • Lady D says:

It was said 2-3 times in the article that he was “willing to sit down with appropriate law enforcement agents” He was oddly specific about the word ‘appropriate’ Laying the groundwork for refusing to sit down with the FBI or French authorities?

    • bobslaw says:

100%. “He has let the side down. Everything he said in that interview was couched in the wrong terms.” F**CK the interview. The participation in sex trafficking and exploitation of minors is where the problem lies.

    • Another interview!? I hear the media is already fact checking every single fact he issued in the first interview. Some are asking the police to check their records as to whether he was at the Pizza Express as each police group keeps detailed logs of support provided when royals move around in public. The British Ambassador at the time Andrew claims to have stayed at Embassy in New York has already gone on public record that he has no memory of Andrew staying in April of that year. I don’t think Charles is going to allow Andrew a second chance to put a gun in his mouth and pull the trigger himself.

  2. Sab says:

    Oh brother… 🤯

  3. jessamine says:

Please do another interview, Andrew! Heck, do two! And have a very merry family-and-by-that-I-mean-Doria Christmas, Sussexes!

    • ArtHistorian says:

Yes Andrew, please do continue to damage your own reputation. Please do continue to convince people of your guilt by being such a bad liar. Please do continue to show people just how arrogant, entitled and out of touch you are. Please do continue to create your own downfall through your arrogance and stupidity.

    • The Hench says:

I’m going to write to Santa straightaway and ask him nicely for another interview from Andrew too.

  4. Noodle says:

“They circle the wagons at a time of crisis…” unless that crisis involves a multi-racial, divorced American who married into the family.

    • Becklu says:

I don’t think they have ever done this, I mean look how they treated William and Harry after Diana died, making them walk and be in public.

I imagine the knives are out for Andrew from Charles and his line, same with Edward and is line.

But the Queen has said that the family is behind them so that is what will be said publicly

      • Ainsley7 says:

The Queen’s first instinct was to keep the boys away from everything at Balmoral. The public wasn’t having it and Blair “protected her” by forcing them all back to London and the public eye. I still don’t understand why her reaction to Diana’s death is seen as a problem. She was looking out for her grandsons who had just lost their mother. The public had no right to demand the things they did. The whole thing with the flag was beyond ridiculous.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

She could have come forward herself while still shielding the boys.

She seems to play ‘family ma’am’ when it suits her.

    • Lowrider says:

      Right, lol!

    • TQ says:

@Noodle “They circle the wagons at a time of crisis…” unless that crisis involves a multi-racial, divorced American who married into the family.” THIS! 100% agree. SMDH.

    • kerwood says:

      @Noodle, nail hits head!

The royal family has been ORDERED to stand behind a man involved in human trafficking but they couldn’t even utter ONE SINGLE WORD of support for a woman who was being torn apart by the racist media and other assorted lunatics while she was PREGNANT?

I can’t believe that there isn’t one single person close to the Queen who hasn’t sat her down and told her how the institution that she’s devoted her life and sacrificed much of her happiness for is being DESTROYED. After all she’s been through, is she going to throw it all away for a son who’s a sex offender?

If the Queen REALLY wanted to protect Andrew, she’d force him so far into the background that people would forget he existed. She’d promote the royals that actually make the monarchy look good, namely Meghan, Harry, Anne, Sophie and a few others.

      This is madness.

      • The Hench says:

+1000, Kerwood. Seriously, what the hell are they all doing?

      • Soupie says:

Yeah and the pig with lipstick on it (Andrew) doesn’t have the wherewithal to gain some morals and substance. Truly cringeworthy and disgusting.

      • ArtHistorian says:

The Queen is really showing her priorities. The court is making sure to leak that the Queen (and the family?) is supporting Andrew who has associated with a pedophile sex trafficker and who has most likely had sex with a trafficked teenager. But not ONE word (or leak) to show support for the biracial duchess who has been slandered in the press through outrageous lies that employed racist dog whistles.

I never thought that Liz was an interesting person or even a great monarch – but now I am officially disgusted with her. I’m glad that my Queen is a woman who is not only intelligent, witty and interesting but also a decent person and a good monarch.

      • Shazze says:

Exactly – they are so dysfunctional, and they minimize Andrew’s behavior which is criminal. What did Meghan do to invite all the abuse – she worked hard, she wrote emails too early – oh the horror!

      • Really! Seems like most of them are drinking the royal kool-aid. An unremitting and unbelievable PR disaster from the beginning.

  5. Oh No says:

Liz and Philip are lucky that the vast majority of their peers are dead. Because if these are the lengths she’ll go to protect her son…what did she do to protect her husband

And I think she knows exactly what her children are capable of and she isn’t really burying her head in the sand about this. She is sending a clear message, that the monarchy is above everything and everyone and consequences will not be suffered

Someone called them inbred hillbillies with jewels on another thread and that felt like a perfect descriptor

    • Ali says:

What did she do to protect her husband?

This! This is not an innocent family. They fundamentally do not believe in human equality. They give credence to birth order superiority for goodness sake. None of this should be a surprise.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

At the least Phillip was a known racist and, in terms of their personal life, a known philanderer.

  6. LadyLaw says:

Wow. He is truly an idiot. There’s no mulligan on not expressing remorse for teenage victims of sex trafficking!

    • Who ARE These People? says:

I know, right? “Oops, my bad. I guess I feel bad for … them, too.”

Likely he thought that expressing sympathy for what happened TO them would be like an admission of guilt that he was the one who did it. (which it sure seems likely he did)

      • ArtHistorian says:

He’s only wanting to do this because people have told him that not expressing sympathy for the victims made him look guilty and generally awful. There isn’t an ounce of sincerity in him.

      • Tigerlily says:

Yeah. He’s just so very regretful that he got caught. I’m amazed by some people (not CB peeps) who are ‘Whatever, age of consent. Nothing to see here’. BS! How do they disregard the trafficking of girls? SMH

  7. Coz' says:

“That said, this must be stretching it, because what he’s done is the least welcome thing anyone could do to their mother, especially at the age of 93”
Oh really! This is Andrew’s worst offense?
What about “That said, this must be stretching it, because what he’s done is the least welcome thing anyone could do to a 16 y-o child”

  8. Guest2.0 says:

“courtiers and royal sources have told Vanity Fair that Andrew has his brother’s support, as well as that of the wider family. “It’s the Queen’s modus operandi to stick together in times of trouble,”

Except for when it comes to supporting the biracial American who married into the family. They can throw her under the bus 24/7.

    • Bookworm says:

Really – you know they mean only her blood family. She couldn’t care less about the unfortunate ones who’ve married in.

      • Piptopher says:

Then why do they also constantly defend Kate from the horrible onslaught of people pointing out her cosmetic procedures? It isn’t always blood only, it depends on the kind of blood *ahem* which is the problem we all have with it. Racism is ugly folks.

    • Fabuleuse says:

That only applies to her blood family. If it were a royal spouse, she would’ve ordered a divorce to get rid of “the problem.”

  9. Rapunzel says:

Will he do this interview from the Pizza Express in Woking?

This guys literally can’t stop burying himself. Dear PedoAndy: They are after your financial situation now, dude. You are screwed.

Also: Dear BRF, this f–ker is dragging you with him into the toilet. Cut and run.

  10. Harla says:

Are you freaking kidding me??? “What we are seeing is the royal family’s herd instinct. They circle the wagon at a time of crisis, and that’s what they’re doing now. When their credibility is called into question, their first strategy is to stand by the family, and their natural instinct is to believe each other. ” Where was this “herding instinct” and “stand by the family” when Meghan was being vilified and bullied on daily basis for things she didn’t even do?? Where the f*ck was the family’s support the last 3 years? Up their as$ses?

    • Ainsley7 says:

They don’t do that with married-ins. They aren’t real family. They wouldn’t do it for Diana, Fergie, Kate, or Sophie either. Honestly, the Queen is probably annoyed that Meghan and Harry are so clearly in love and haven’t been married long enough for her to order a divorce. Fergie and Andrew were perfectly happy with their life. Fergie caused a scandal and out she went. Andrew had no say in it.

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

Oh Pedo HAD a say…IF he’d give up his perks, the money, and/or title. He wouldn’t give THAT up for Freeloader!

  11. Danielle says:

I actually just can’t get over these people. All the money and privilege in the world can’t buy you cop on. They could get any crisis PR people they want and yet choose not to. The sheer arrogance of Andrew and the BRF is off the chart.

  12. hnmmom says:

    Ok, Boomer.

  13. Becklu says:

I have not seen any evidence the family (outside the queen and yorks) are supporting this pedo. And while I understand how hard it would be to believe your son could do something like this, I do get it. At the same time like at least don’t put out statements the entire family is behind him because that will back fire. I also think the queen would be wise (I know know) to ask him to retire and move to Switzerland and stay out of sight.

This is a mess, but I don’t think it will have that big of an impact on the monarchy. I think a lot of people will excuse the queen and with Brexit I can’t see them upsetting the government more.

    • TheOtherSam says:

agree @Becklu. I see nothing to support that the family, minus the Queen, supports Andrew. If anything this mess gave Charles the final ammo to boot his kid brother to the curb, once and for all. Something he’s been itching to do for years.

We’ll get the fuller story as it leaks out in bits over the coming weeks. Already today reports are swirling that a raging Charles had a large hand in Andrew’s ‘early retirement’ announcement today. Not a moment too soon.

  14. 10KTurtle says:

Remorse for what? I thought he thinks he’s innocent and honorable?

    • Harla says:

      too honorable really. ugh!

    • Christina says:

This. He does think he’s still honorable, because they all know what Phillip did to their mother. They know that the King and princes fuck around openly, so what Andrew did isn’t as a big a deal to the Queen. I’m sure that she thinks that Guiffrey is just a prostitute, like all the others who were and weren’t paid. She is really misreading that young women are not accepting patriarchal notions of behavior. I know that when people tried to do stuff like that to me, I fought and paid for fighting back as a poor “throw away” woman.

This is the ultimate patriarchy, and it is the model for all men who think of themselves as the Kings of their households with the right to sleep around as long as the wife doesn’t know. Men friends don’t dime on men who step out in their marriages. The Queen isn’t getting that this is about rape, coercion, and The trafficking of minors to different countries for sex. They don’t mix with “the people”, so the distinction between hunting and parties is more important than the possibility that vulnerable girls and young women were trafficked expressly to rich men for sex, and that Andrew was not only the bait, he partook in the rapes.

Guiffrey was 17, and the legal age of consent in the UK makes the Queen, and many other people, men AND women, think that this in the range of normal. It’s horrifying. Their poverty and vulnerability don’t matter, because the young women “should have known better.” Wealthy people don’t think about the struggles and vulnerabilities of people outside of themselves.

This shit is exhausting. After a lifetime of fighting, this just makes me very, very depressed.

Please, Celebitchy and CB fans, keep fighting for the vulnerable… words are power.

  15. Redgrl says:

I remember the original Vanity Fair interview – a lot of interesting background to what is coming to light now.

  16. Zapp Brannigan says:

“Andrew told his mother that he didn’t rape a trafficked teenager” because in Andrew’s warped mind why wouldn’t a vulnerable 17 year old girl want him, ergo not rape. She was just another person there to service his needs, like the butlers, equerries, courtiers, shoe shiners and whoever is in charge of attending to the royal buttocks with toilet paper after his Royal Dryness goes potty on the porcelain throne.

    • Becks1 says:

This was precisely my thought. In his mind, Andrew didn’t rape a trafficked teenager, so of course when he tells the queen that she believes him, bc he’s not consciously lying. And I think that’s part of what makes this so disgusting (not the only thing obviously) – the notion on the part of Andrew that he didn’t take anything that he wasn’t entitled to.

      • The Hench says:

Yes, agree. I read an article once on the psychology of men that rape and one of the common beliefs they held was that no woman would really say no to them. The entitlement was jaw dropping and Andrew has plenty of that. I note that he very carefully avoided denying that he had sex with her – just that he ‘couldn’t recollect’ meeting her (despite the bloody photo showing him with Virginia *rolls eyes*)

    • Nan says:

I completely agree with you. In his mind he probably a gift to any woman.

  17. Wilma says:

The tabloids are baying for his downfall. It will come.

  18. Eleonor says:

    AHAHAHAAAAAHAAAA!!!!
To show some remorse? And next?
Eugenie “very worried” is English expression for what?
The only one coming out with a good is Charles who is described as “furious”, that’s the only logic reaction.

    • Christina says:

Yeah, but Charles is furious that he got overshadowed AGAIN. Instead of Diana, it’s now his brother. He doesn’t incorporate the reason he was overshadowed into the equation. He’s Elizabeth 2. At least the Queen sometimes tries to seem like she understands people. I love/hate Charles. I love that he wants to do good, but I absolutely HATE narcissism.

  19. Rapunzel says:

And can we talk about him being worst dad ever? He used his daughter as a shield. He’s dragged that innocent girl into his mess. She is his alibi and now a potential witness in any legal proceedings… with all the potential legal exposure that brings. I can’t believe Beatrice is ok with that. Not unless she’s as dumb as daddy.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Exactly, thanks for pointing this out.

    • Bex says:

I have no time for the monarchy or pretty much any of its members, but I do absolutely feel for Beatrice here. What an awful thing to do to her.

  20. Cidy says:

Just point blank this guy is a rapist and an enabler of human trafficking. That’s the story, it doesnt matter how many times they print “Queens Favorite Son.” IDGAF, hes a rapist. And a racist.

The best thing the palace could have done was immediately thrown him to the dogs and the only reason they havent is probably because he has some dirt to throw to the press if they dont keep him around.

I think that the Queen is extremely out of touch because it’s her job to be out of touch. It doesnt matter how many times the younger generation presents this “we’re just like you” BS act, it is completely infuriating and out of touch because their entire job and livelihoods depend on them being NOTHING like me because these people are born into money and status and wealth because they believe God told them so. The monarchy is dependent on its royals to be out of touch, and out of the social spheres of us commoners. But socially this is a humungous misstep, right now they are harboring, protecting and fostering a rapist, socially out of touch, tone deaf and toxic. Let me get off my soapbox before my coffee gets cold.

    Tldr; abolish the monarchy

  21. Sassy says:

Yes do another interview dig that hole deeper

    • BayTampaBay says:

You must admit that a second interview would be quite entertaining.

If a man is digging himself a hole it is only right to loan him a second shovel.

  22. Deanne says:

Honestly, they’ll let the British press savage poor Meghan, but it’s “circle the wagons” for the accused pedophile. The royal family are completely obsolete.

    • Christina says:

Brexity Britons are buying up all of the papers that skewer Meg, so the racism doesn’t stop at the palace doors or in the offices of the Daily Mail.

I remember on the day that Harry and Meg married, a Black woman was interviewed in a UK neighborhood and she was asked what she thought of Meg marrying Harry. She thought for a minute, took a deep breath, and then she said something to the effect of, “Nothing will change. What they do doesn’t effect us one way or the other. Our lives won’t get better.” That’s code for “racists still gonna racist.”

  23. Digital Unicorn says:

Of course he does, he now realises the first one was a train wreck and wants to make it worse. They really are a family of inbred idiots. Considering that pretty much ALL of the patronages are deserting him he has no choice now – no one wants to be publicly associated with him and for some one with his massive entitlement thats whats got to sting.

Plus the Fail are going all in on him – there running a story today on his shoddy financial dealings when he was UK trade ambassador and how while he personally made millions off that position the UK made nothing.

Prince Porky Fingers is now sh!tting bricks, the UK tabloids are drip dripping the dirty laundry they’ve been hoarding and considering how much he is hated by the public and the media its not going to end well for him.

  24. Pix says:

As crazy as it sounds, I don’t see how he can’t do another interview. He is sinking fast and the only way to save himself is to arrange with a friendly journalist to throw softballs.

    • lanne says:

But that will look exactly like it is: a softball interview with a friendly journalist. No one’s going to look at that and say “oh, NOW I get it, Andy!” It will just lead to even more ridicule.

  25. My3cents says:

I think the reason the Queen survived her out of touch Diana fiasco was that social media wasn’t around then.
If something like that would gave happened today she’d gave a much slimmer chance.

  26. Sofia says:

Just send him to Switzerland and take away his public funding. Dear darling mummy can pay for him out of her own personal wealth

    • Amy Too says:

This might be a stupid question, but what happens after brexit? Will he be able to just go live in Switzerland? Isn’t that a European Union type of thing: being able to travel freely and stay for a long time or live in whatever EU country you want?

      • Spikey says:

Switzerland is not part of the EU, they just signed the Schengen Agreement that guarantees free movement of goods and people. But, they *are* Switzerland so it will likely be possible to find a suitable … arrangement to accommodate the Queen’s second son.

  27. OriginalLala says:

Do another interview Andrew..I hope they trot out more royals for more interviews actually..maybe that would put a glaring spotlight on the fact that they are *all* overly-privileged, extremely entitled, arrogant toffs who see nothing wrong with the trafficking and rape of children because they are above us all. Eff them.

  28. Lowrider says:

Andrew is a great representation of what the monarchy stands for. They are circling the wagons because he one of them.

  29. Guest says:

Lol…please do. The royal family deserves all their karma.

  30. Maxie says:

His daughters must be livid. They lived a charmed life and milked everything they could of their status but the situation has to be different now. They aren’t active participants like the Trump kids but who wants to be associated with the York family right now? The parents are trash and the daughters don’t bring anything of value except for a tainted connection to the royal family.

  31. Enn says:

Give him more rope to hang himself (metaphorically, of course)!

  32. Leriel says:

Let him be. He’s so privileged that little to no one can take him down, so let him take himself down, I just want to enjoy it with a good cuppa xD.

  33. Mignionette says:

I take it Andy is no longer ‘cock a hoop’ and word had now reached BP of what a train wreck the first one was….

  34. Coji says:

I’m not British so my opinion doesn’t mean anything but this whole mess has convinced me that the monarchy needs to go. I simply can’t with people who believe themselves to be this entitled. Seriously, she’s as trashy as Trump.

  35. MsIam says:

The BRF are some real fkrs for sure. Andrew is as rank as they come and stinks to high heaven but they are “circling the wagons” and “showing full support” for him. But H&M make statements about the terrible press treatment and they are said to be “distancing themselves” and have “no support from the senior royals”. Bunch of cows for sure.

  36. adastraperaspera says:

I think that the Anti-Slavery Collective organization was created as part of his cover story. Heck of a coincidence in topic!

    • Tourmaline says:

Sadly, I agree it was a bit of obvious PR narrative changing on the part of the Yorks. Because I don’t believe Beatrice or Eugenie do anything without the approval of their parents. Sorry Eugenie I know you have family expertise on trafficking but maybe leave these issues to real experts and advocates.

  37. leigh says:

Andrew’s probably in talks with Piers Morgan to do A Very Special Interview: Remorse for No Remorse. Piers can throw softball questions interspersed with shots of Andrew doing charity work and old family photos with Eugenie and Beatrice (Pizza Express photoshopped into the background). And, of course, Piers can subtly bring up how the Duchess of Sussex’s pregnancy announcement hijacked Eugenie’s wedding and the strain that put on the Yorks’ mental health, diverting the bad headlines back to where they want them.

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Nah Piers Morgan is not going to touch this with a barge pole, not when there are photos of Piers and Ghislaine Maxwell being pally on google images. Too close to home for old Piers.

  38. Becks1 says:

This whole thing just makes them look worse. That first interview was a disaster and it had nothing to do with the questions or the interviewer. Andrew is a walking disaster for the RF at this point and I think they all know it, with the slight exception of the Queen, but I think someone is trying to get through to her. The fact that it went from “Andrew thought the interview was a success” to “Andrew wants to do another one” tells you a lot.

    • ArtHistorian says:

The first interview was a disaster because Andrew is not only arrogant and entitled, he’s also a spectacularly bad liar! His lies were so ridiculous that no one believes them – and that makes him look even more guilty. However, Andrew is too stupid and entitled to know that he is, in fact, quite stupid. If he does another interview I think he’ll just make himself look even worse – and, frankly, I’m all for him continuing to sabotage himself because he is his own worst enemy.

  39. Maria says:

Maybe he could do a weekly interview. THE GREAT I AM show.

    • Spikey says:

      I’d watch that!
I’m currently on a Dynasty binge – Alexis was far ahead of her times! – and I’m telling you: This is better than any scripted plot line. No one would believe it on a show like Dynasty.

  40. Mego says:

This is Katie Nicholl who wrote many lies about Meghan being a difficult diva and Kate being keen. These are yet more musings from her backside.

  41. Bros says:

All that coin and he still has those teeth.
    Mind. Blown.

  42. Cee says:

Yesterday night I watched The Crown’s Aberfan episode (which was awful to watch!) and I was aghast at how cold, indifferent and lacking of empathy they made her out to be. If Coleman’s portrayal is remotely close to what actually happened then I will no longer be surprised at her lack of action and response regarding crisis within the RF and those concerning the country.

  43. Charfromdarock says:

He should be interviewed by the authorities.

  44. Charlotte says:

Me: “I’ve split red wine! It will stain!”
Prince Andrew: “Here, pour some white wine on it!”

    Result: A f***ing mess

Edit to add – Andrew is really both characters in this story

  45. Maria says:

What is happening with Ghislaine Maxwell? Apparently she would grab teenage girls right in Central Park. I can’t believe no one knows where she is. Very fishy.

    • Jaded says:

She and that so-called modeling agency owner Jean-Luc Brunel, who was part of the trafficking ring, have been traced to a posh resort in Brazil by their mobile numbers. I don’t know if they’re still there, some reporters showed up but couldn’t locate them, but they’re definitely hiding out somewhere in S. America. They’ll be found, mark my words, and then Prince Pervert will be in much deeper doo-doo.

  46. L4frimaire says:

If Andrew wants to express remorse for the girls he saw exploited and who he raped, he can issue one of his poorly worded statements. NO one needs to see his sweaty bloated mug on tv again stammering out his lies and evasions. As for circling the wagons, they let the press attack the Sussexes and print lies and distortions against Meghan and not once expressed any support for her or condemned the unfair treatment. Andrew and the Queen can sod off, as the Brits say.

  47. aquarius64 says:

If the Queen gave the order to close ranks on Andrew it explains why the Sussexes gave a hard pass on Sandringham Christmas. The BRF sat back and let Meghan get dragged but is screaming witch hunt for Andrew. That church walk may not be welcoming this year. Crowds may not be welcoming for the Windsors; expect boos. I bet the queen orders Will and Kate to definitely show support and they will have to go along. As future monarch and consort crisis management is part of the job description for their positions.

  48. Liz version 700 says:

This family. I am starting to see why the rumors that Harry wants to leave the RF are so believable. What a nest of vipers and Andrew and the Yorks are the worst of the lot. His poor daughters. They never stood a chance with those parents.

  49. maxine ducamp says:

BBC Breaking News: Prince Andrew to step down from all royal duties for the foreseeable future due to Epstein scandal.

    • Becks1 says:

Holy EFF. I just saw this breaking on twitter. I am so glad to see it but I admit I am really shocked that he did it, and so soon after telling the queen that the interview went well.

    • adastraperaspera says:

      Indictment coming?

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

“Stepping down from royal duties” = “not required to work, but will maintain the same lifestyle”

This is NOT a comeuppance. This is the royal family hiding Andrew from the spotlight, and from any *real* repercussions. I’ve said before the royal family will deny, deflect, and defend their own. The denials didn’t really work, so now they’re deflecting — removing Andrew from sight while stories of Wiliam/Kate/Harry/Meghan take over the news cycles. I expect a ramping up of “leaked” stories about Meghan. This is the royal family equivalent of bringing closure to Andrew’s wrongdoings. Problem solved! Now move on.

  50. Louisa says:

It’s just been announced on BBC that he is stepping back from royal duties for the forseeable future.

  51. Lowrider says:

I hope he does it. Keep digging Randy and it’s good tv.

  52. Liz version 700 says:

Wow!!!!! Prince Andrew announced he is stepping back from public duties. That was a fast and well deserved fall from grace.

  53. heygingersnaps says:

All those big businesses and institutions dropping him like a hot potato must have finally knock on his head that he is well and truly despised by the majority of the public. Bye! And don’t come back from your privilege cave that you will no doubt be hiding in.

  54. RoyalBlue says:

This train wreck is like ‘the emperor’s new clothes’ where Andrew is surrounded by yes men telling him he is fantastic and looking good and keep at it and to the rest of us we just see a bumbling fool.

  55. Betsy says:

Well he’s stepping out of public duties! That’s something!!

  56. Andrea says:

I agree with the above postings—he probably thinks he did nothing wrong because who wouldn’t want to sleep with a Prince?!? And honestly, my now 77 year old father would make comments about girls my age when I was in high school(I am now 38). Men of a certain age don’t see 15/16/17 as a big deal to sleep with. I can see Andrew at 59 feeling similar, despite having daughters. This is a HUGE issue in our society and something we don’t address with people because the older men are from “another era”.

    • lanne says:

The “underaged woman” problem. There’s a pernicious idea that once a girl has an adult body, that means she is an adult, and understands the ways of adults. If you had asked me at age 16 how to seduce a man, i would have had no idea, even though I had what people would consider (as many 16 year olds do) a rockin’ body. I was still a kid, as were all my peers. There was so much about life that I didn’t understand, and I was so inexperienced. Girls who have had sex by 16 are still inexperienced, and lack understanding of adult relationships. I teach teenage girls and these girls are just as naive as I was. We need to see teenaged girls as girls, not women. Just like we see teenaged boys as boys and not men.

  57. Emily says:

I finally watched the interview and omg it was a colossal hurricane/earthquake (trainwreck not a strong enough expression IMO) disaster. He refused to disavow his friendship with Epstein or express regret they were ever friends because he got the chance to “network” and “meet Americans of eminence” something I feel a lot of people haven’t mentioned. I don’t doubt his relationship with Epstein was one of mutual benefit and I’m sure he met plenty of sketchy businessmen, politicians, and celebrities. But to keep saying the good from that relationship outweighed the bad?? It’s worse than tone deaf it’s borderline psycopath behavior almost??

And he had to be reminded by the interviewer (forget her name but she’s fabulous by the way) that Epstein was a sexual predator! Not just his lack of remorse but his lack of compassion for the trafficked women. He easily could have said “I have two daughters and the idea that either of them could be exploited in such a way is horrifying to me” (avoiding the whole “as a father of daughters cliche). I don’t believe his infamous Central Park stroll was to end the friendship either… A second interview would only make things worse. He had one shot and he blew it.

  58. Ames says:

Marinating in that caliber of clueless privilege and self-absorption, generation after generation, does leave a mark. Not to mention the royal family will need to breed with a couple more generations of “commoners” to escape the obvious damage done by roughly 1,000 years of inbreeding.

It’s interesting to watch The Crown with this going on, because something that show excels at – and I don’t even think they’re doing it intentionally most of the time – is portraying how DUMB these people are and how proud of that fact some of them seem to be.

The royal family’s “brand” is that they cling steadfastly to tradition and duty, accepting that the cost of their privilege is that they might be seen as fusty and out of touch. But the truth is they’re LITERALLY TOO STUPID TO DO ANYTHING ELSE.

  59. A says:

    Oh fck off Andrew.

A couple thoughts–people are sussing out some different game theory situations here in these comments. I think Murphy’s law probably applies best to this situation. I don’t think anyone is out here gaming anything to make Andrew look bad, or that Andrew is smart enough to run such a co-ordinated smear campaign against Meghan and Harry. He’s a loose cannon, always has been, and he’s stupid to boot. I think the simplest explanation here is that Andrew is a dumbass, always has been, and he genuinely thought this interview was some type of PR coup on his part that would completely vindicate him, didn’t accept any dissenting opinions, went ahead with it, and is paying the price of the fall out. The fact that he said he’s retiring from public duties is also on him–I don’t think anyone would have been able to force him out at this juncture, not when the Queen is supporting him. I think he’s deeply embarrassed by how badly everything has backfired, and he’s retreating into the darkness to lick his wounds and sulk in shame and b-tch about how everyone has it all wrong about him. He’ll be back in the limelight soon, when the tide turns, just watch.

I think the people who were the leading cause of all the smears against Meghan wasn’t Charles or William or Kate themselves, but their staffers. Especially the staffers at Kensington Palace. The tenor of the stories against Meghan definitely sounded to me like a bunch of disgruntled, racist, angry employees who don’t want to be told what to do by a biracial woman, who felt annoyed at the sudden expectation that they be asked to do real work. I think William knew about the staffers selling stories to the tabloids on the sly, but shrugged his shoulders and didn’t do anything about it because a) it made him look good and b) he has plausible deniability for it (“It wasn’t me, it was only my staff!”). I think the lack of co-operation that H&M dealt with with the KP staff, William’s refusal to deal with them, plus the constant stream of negative stories, was what led to them splitting their households and their foundation, and it’s probably what’s caused the Cambridges to fire that one lady after her honeymoon and for Kate’s private secretary to not renew her contract.

    • Mignionette says:

This is a rational very well thought out post, although I personally feel that Billy is more than just a bystander who got lucky. He had a lot to hide (affairs) and it’s clear he used the smears to his advantage.

Even if he was not initially involved he soon saw the benefit of getting involved.

    • Ames says:

I’m not sure these people are even capable of being embarrassed, deeply or otherwise. The fact that Charles, Prince of Tampons is still in the line of succession makes that pretty clear.

  60. MangoAngelesque says:

Considering that the Queen and Charles just dropped Andrew from official Royal Duties, I seriously doubt any orders to play nice with him were given.

My opinion is that Charles gave the Queen some backbone to boot Prince Pedo as elegantly as possible.

  61. Gabby says:

Does this mean he will no longer be a Counselor of state? A Knight of the Garter?

    • Mignionette says:

Andy is persona non grata for the ‘foreseeable future’. That means until they find a super spin doctor to clean up his paedo image. I cannot see how that ever can be done but something tells me the RF are stupid and entitled enough to attempt it.

If the RF had any decency they’d make up some health condition, take him off the civil list and retire him. If on the other hand they are stupid enough to allow him to keep his titles then they need to re-validate him via an official independent public inquiry just like any other public employee in a position of great power. Because Constitutionally he is still technically in the line of succession and if that Balcony were to go down during TOTC he could end up being our Monarch.

  62. The Other Katherine says:

If he can’t go to prison, can he please at least GO AWAY? Like, to a remote location far away from the rich and royal, journalists, PR people, and cameras? His “stepping back” from public duties would be a lot more meaningful if we never had to see or hear from him again. Which, for such a thirsty individual, would be at least a small punishment, if vastly less than he deserves. Ugh. For God’s sake, man, JUST STOP TALKING.
