Gabrielle Union’s Uber driver took 15 minutes in her bathroom

At least all the bs that happened to Gabrielle Union at America’s Got Talent didn’t rob her of her sense of humor. After a tumultuous year of being punished for speaking up for what’s right, Gabrielle set out to ring in the New Year like most folks. And, like most folks, she braved Uber’s surge pricing to get home safely. Only Gabriele’s NYE trip took and interesting turn, one in which her Uber driver left a lasting impression… in her restroom. Gabrielle posted this tweet Tuesday night:

I’ll admit, I never considered what a Lyft/Uber driver does when they need to use a restroom (I rarely use them). I have no idea what I would do if a driver asked to use mine. I guess it would depend on my gut feeling and who was in the house at the time. My guess is that Gabrielle felt safe enough to allow it. And she was very generous to allow it. But I feel kind of bad for the poor driver. I love Gabrielle, as you know, but I’m not sure I see her reason for posting this. Like, there was only one of two options of what he needed to do in there if he had to go. Shouldn’t she have been kind of prepared? From the information provided, there’s a lot to indicate that this was a pressing matter for the guy, so it’s not like he had a choice. And if he’d waited and had an accident in his car, that would take him out of rotation for what was probably a very lucrative night. Maybe it was the amount of time he took – she thought it would be a minute and it turned into 15. Maybe the guy said/did something questionable after. Maybe she felt pressured in some way to say yes – I don’t know. I want there to be a reason to embarrass someone like this. As for official policy, Uber/Lyft encourage drivers to take bathroom breaks (presumably in public restrooms), but they have no rules about asking their customers to use theirs. And the other options seem just as bad.

An alternate, and hilarious, theory posed by those commenting on the Tweet is that this is what this guy does on NYE, like a bucket list – which celebrity’s bathroom will I poop in to start the year? There’s a scrapbook I never want to see.

However, I am thrilled to know Gabrielle is a woman after my own heart. Obviously, she wrote and posted this text after the fact. Notice it is time-stamped at 9:40PM on December 31st. So Gabrielle had been out, celebrated enough to need a ride home and was contently tweeting, probably in comfy pjs, but 9:30 on New Year’s Eve. I’ll bet she was in bed by 10 – now that’s my kind of New Year Eve celebration. JK – I never even left my house.

Funny! Story to tell for next decade. Never realized that Uber does not provide facilities for driver’s

  2. Lightpurple says:

But did he close the door? She has already informed the world that she doesn’t close the door.

  3. Glozilla says:

I file this under we are all human, it was kind of her to let him use it. But… now he is probably humiliated.

  4. Slowsnow says:

This sounds unfunny and creepy to me. If Uber doesn’t provide facilities and the dude was feeling he had to go what could he have done? ? Probably stayed hours to in there to see if the stench would go away and he is still mocked… Dunno. Feels unkind and unsympathetic.

What a rude and gross tweet.

When I was in college I had a job that required driving around – I would go in a Dunkin Donuts (and often buy something because I felt guilty for just using the restroom).

Poor guy probably had an emergency, I doubt he was in there just chilling and reading a magazine. It was nice of her to let him in, but this might have been something that didn’t need to be shared to the world.
I never thought about that either, on a busy night the drivers probably don’t have much time for a break, to eat or use the restroom or even just stretch their legs.

  8. Eribra says:

This is seriously unkind and unnecessary. Why would she write this? Everyone knows poop stinks. I’ve always felt like people who make comments about someone’s poop smelling are the most juvenile jerks. And to put it on Twitter? Not cool

It’s funny but come on! She’s stigmatizing something EVERYONE DOES. Not “poop in a celebrity’s bathroom” but we all have to go. The poor guy probably was in a rush and couldn’t wait. If he told any of his friends that he picked up Gabrielle Union then they ALL know it was him now!

  10. Catting says:

Tacky of her. She wants brownie points for letting a guy use the bathroom, and also sympathy he had to do a normal human thing. If he left the bathroom dirty that’s one thing, but that’s not what she says. Still, this is why I keep “Just a drop” in my bathroom. 🙂

Gabby got MORE THAN A BIT of “mean girl” in her….

And that’s ALL I’ma say about THAT!

  12. smee says:

The working conditions for these drivers suck. I’m sure he used the guest bathroom. Maybe not the best move 😉 on his part, but she’s coming-off as using her classism to mock the help for using her toilet. Hire a driver who gets paid a decent wage and you won’t have these troubles, b

Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go. And sometimes you really gotta go. Everybody poops. It’s not like he disappeared with a nudie mag to go off and pleasure himself. Rather mean-spirited of her to tweet about it and shame him for needing to perform a biological function. Or does she possess the superhuman ability to only poop when it’s convenient for the rest of the world? I hope she thinks about that the next time she needs to use someone else’s bathroom.

Uhh. I’m so old, I guess. Why would someone with money use an Uber. I would call a taxi over an Uber any day. I suppose it depends where you live.

    • DiegoInSF says:

There’s Uber black with professional drivers. Not in a million years would I let a driver in my place, wth! They can go to a Starbucks or public restroom.

  15. Skittlesandkittens says:

    Way to shame the driver.
