Trendspotting: this awards season, a lot of women have been doing “vintage prom looks” for awards shows, have you noticed that? Florence Pugh has led the ‘80s prom revival looks, and Zoe Kravitz and Renee Zellweger have led the 1950s prom revival. By that I mean, taffeta, vintage-inspired cuts, stiff-looking satin and pale, delicate colors. Renee wore this pink Prada gown to the BAFTAs. It totally looks vintage and late 1950s/early 1960s. It’s okay – I like that Renee just got into the habit of choosing vintage and vintage-flavored looks twenty years ago and stuck with it. That style works on her body and she ends up looking somewhat timeless. Though the Botox and plastic surgery help with that too. Also: Renee picked up the Best Actress BAFTA. She’s a sure thing.
Here’s Zoe Kravitz in Saint Laurent. I actually thought this was Burberry when I first saw it, it has Burberry vibes, but I guess Saint Laurent went for glittering gold and conservative. It’s a great look on her. And yes, Zoe has been in England filming The Batman – she’s Selina Kyle.
Zazie Beetz in Marina Moscone. I… don’t like this? I feel like it’s the wrong color, and I also think the fit is off and that’s why her body language seems a bit uncomfortable? Love that she matched her lipstick perfectly though!!

I love love love Zoe’s look. So elegant and tasteful yet fun. She always knows how to accessorize. Drives me crazy when other outlets talk about her “red lip” when it’s clearly more orange.
Renee has a style and an aesthetic that works for her and I respect that. She’s not a fashionista. Zoe’s dress was one of my favorites. It wasnt groundbreaking and we have seen it before but it was stunning. So simple and classic and yet bold at the same time. I love these kinda of dresses. And I love the pops of red-orange with the earrings and her lips. Perfect.
Zazie looked pretty as well. I just dont think the fabric and construction of the dress was all that great. But she still looked beautiful.

Love Zoe & Renee, but the puckering around the top of the slit in Zazee’s dress looks janky and ill-fitting. It looks like she pulled a stitch, or the fabric snagged. Her hair and makeup are very pretty, and the colour is perfect, but (as a sewist), the construction of the dress is is off and off-putting.
Renee is lovely, but my first thought on her dress was unopened tampon.

She looks very good here, however, and I’m happy for her as I was always a fan through the years. I thought Carolina Herrera was her long time designer.
Zoe looks fabulous. The wrinkles at Zazie’s slit detract from it. RZ…I’m still on the fence. On the one hand she’s so fair, the color doesn’t overwhelm her. But it kind of washes her out too.
Have you seen What/If on Netflix. I love Renee in that. She can wear anything and that show is pure clothes p**n. She looks good here. I love Zoe’s dress to, she can where anything as well.
I like all of these looks. They suit the style, coloring, and figures of all of these women.
Renee’s fit is perfection. Zoe looks flawless. And that color is aces on Zazie.
Renee does tend to stick to the same vibe. This dress is a lovely color, just kind of meh.
Zoe looks great, but I preferred her Golden Globes look. I’m not a fan of orange lipstick, it just seldom looks good on anyone IMO.
