Prince Charles canceled his four-country tour, which was supposed to start next week

Vanity Fair published a story online yesterday about how the Windsors are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. The basic gist was that they’re keeping calm and carrying on, and the Queen and Prince Charles in particular have a slew of stuff on their schedules this month. As of yesterday, Charles and Camilla were even supposed to do a big tour next week:

Clarence House has said that Prince Charles’s spring tour will go ahead. Charles, 71, will visit Bosnia, while he and Duchess Camilla, 72, are due to visit Cyprus and Jordan together from March 17-25. The couple will visit the Republic of Cyprus to recognize the work of the UN Peacekeeping Force and celebrate traditional Cypriot culture and Jordan to learn what the country is doing to support refugees and showcase its rich cultural history. Sources close to the couple say that the trip, which is at the request of the British government, is important to them, and they hope to be able to carry out the spring tour.

I read this VF piece yesterday evening and thought to myself “I wonder how long it will take for the Windsors to really respond to this global crisis?” It took them 24 hours, basically.

A wise decision overall. I have to think that in the coming days, there will be a move to cancel the Queen’s schedule, and possibly even put her in some kind of semi-isolation at Windsor Castle or Sandringham. That petty B can teleconference in and give her orders about who to smear next.

Of course, I’m not expecting the royal family to give a belated apology to Meghan and Harry, because M&H didn’t bring Archie to the UK because of the coronavirus fears. Meg and Harry were called all sorts of names in the press because HOW DARE THEY. Turns out, now the old folks are just now starting to take coronavirus seriously.

Also, Charles just did a huge fundraiser event for the Prince’s Trust on Wednesday. He didn’t shake hands with anyone – he did the “namaste” prayer hands – but it was a large gathering and there was no social distancing. Just FYI. (Meanwhile, I bet Kate will use the pandemic as an excuse to take the next three months off, sorry Struggle Survey Takers!)

I like the namaste hands. It’s pretty. Also like pew-pew finger guns, but not for royalty!

  2. Maria says:

Can you blame him really, I mean he’s at the age when it could affect him if he became ill with the virus. And Camilla, having been a heavy smoker for years, her lungs could be more compromised. And if something happened to Charles then, well let’s not think about it.

  3. Rose says:

Why would it be bad for Kate to take a few months off ? She isn’t doing anything important that can’t wait .

  4. one of the Marys says:

FYI in Canada the Prime Ministers’ family are in self isolation, his wife just tested positive following her return from Britain

  5. Nic919 says:

With Sophie Gregoire Trudeau having tested positive after her trip to the UK it looks even smarter that Archie did not travel.

  6. Becks1 says:

I don’t blame for this at all, its the smart move, but I do wonder if William is still making jokes about spreading it.

  7. Kateeee says:

These are people of limitless means who have numerous daily interactions with all levels of society. I have no problem with any or all of them self- quarantining instead of spreading their germs to unsuspecting masses just for a photo op. Namaste hands arent enough.

I am an Events Coordinator for a large beauty company everyone knows
Woke up today to find out all 3 of my large events in Western Canada have been postponed to fall
    I fully support this decision

  9. Le4Frimaire says:

No one needs to see them now. Now William looks like a tone-deaf idiot for mocking the seriousness of the virus. Has Harry left for Canada yet?

    • Jaded says:

I think he’s still in the UK, I live close to where they’re staying on Vancouver Island and there’s been nothing in our local press about him being back yet.

    • MsIam says:

I hope Harry doesn’t get stuck in UK. They said Trudeau’s wife was at a conference in Britain and came back home sick. I could see Canada implementing travel restrictions like they did here in the US. Also, I wonder if Meghan got tested when she got back from the UK?

      • Le4Frimaire says:

Someone on Twitter said Harry was on their flight to Victoria. Hope they’re both safe after all that hand shaking and hugging last week. It’s getting real over here. Kids school shutting down and working from home now.

Oh you know Cain & Unable are going to milk this fir as long as possible to avoid the public and work.

Whenever I think of Bosnia, I think Diana’s work with land mines 😌

I think the Windsors are upset about coronavirus since George and Charlotte’s school mat havenuad exposure.
