Princess Beatrice has cancelled her posh-tent palace wedding reception

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi arrive at Annabels in London

I generally think the Windsors have flubbed their response to the coronavirus pandemic. Maybe the argument could be made that they were taking advice from Boris Johnson and his government and BoJo was the one to f–k it up (which is true), but still, the Queen is old as dirt and she should have understood how big this was going to be. She thought she could just keep her head in the sand and keep carrying on, and then suddenly sh-t got real. She’s decamping to Windsor Castle today, and Prince Philip will join her there. Nearly all of the public events on each royal figure’s schedule has been cancelled for the next two or three months. And yet… Princess Beatrice hasn’t actually cancelled her wedding. Instead, she’s just cancelling the Buckingham Palace posh-rent reception. ORLY?

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are adjusting plans for their upcoming summer nuptials. Initially, the couple were scheduled to celebrate their marriage with a lavish reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, following a ceremony at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace on May 29. Buckingham Palace has since released a statement expressing concern over going forward with the ceremony in the midst of so much uncertainty surrounding coronavirus and how long it will continue to affect travel, events, and social gatherings worldwide.

“Princess Beatrice and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi are very much looking forward to getting married but are equally aware of the need to avoid undertaking any unnecessary risks in the current circumstances. In line with government advice for the UK and beyond, the couple are reviewing their arrangements for 29th May,” read a statement from Buckingham Palace.

The announcement did not confirm whether or not Beatrice and Mozzi’s marriage will be postponed until next year, or if the couple will continue with a much smaller ceremony and downsized guest list. The reception will no longer take place at the Buckingham Palace Gardens, however.

“They are particularly conscious of government advice in relation to both the wellbeing of older family members and large gatherings of people. Therefore, the planned reception in the Buckingham Palace Gardens will not take place. The couple will carefully consider government advice before deciding whether a private marriage might take place amongst a small group of family and friends,” continued the statement.

All of that sucking up to the Queen for naught. Bea won’t even get her posh tent in the garden. She’ll have to get married at some courthouse like a peasant. I mean, I do feel sorry for her and all of the brides having to cancel their weddings or postpone certain things. It sucks. But in Beatrice’s case, I still feel like she should use this opportunity to RUN. Call it off.

Hubby to be tailoring is great in first pic

  2. Chica71 says:

Prince Andrew will get her to wait. If he is reactivated to royal duty, he can forego the wedding. If not, Prince Andrew needs a public display of adoring dad to obscure the pedophilia charge.

    • Mac says:

Gah, I hope she and Edo just move forward with a small private ceremony. Bea wants to get married and Andrew doesn’t deserve the attention.

  3. Maria says:

I kind of feel sorry for her, but hey, that’s the new reality. We all need to do our bit.

  4. minx says:

If they really wanted to be married, they would be. They could have a big reception months later. Cry me a river.

    • Sarah says:

Right?! Forget the courthouse…Royals have private chapels in their palaces. Come on now.

  5. Becks1 says:

Like I said yesterday – of all the brides who are cancelling their weddings right now, the process is going to be the simplest for someone like Beatrice. She’s not in danger of losing her venue or anything like that. I’m sure shes disappointed, but they can still get married if they want at any point.

  6. Maria says:

I guess other couples will be delaying their weddings like Theodora of Greece, James Middleton, kitty Spencer. Oh well!

  7. Sarah says:

Beatrice? Sweetie? The universe is telling you something about this wedding.

  8. (TheOG) jan90067 says:

The whole wedding party would, I’m sure, be able to get tested (twice! w/in 24hrs. which is the protocol to be sure they’re not infected/carriers of corona), and/or would need to be quarantined for at least 2 wks at Windsor prior to this if they were still going to use the chapel in Windsor as planned.

I don’t think this wedding will happen on schedule.

  9. S808 says:

She could get married now and have a party later. Or even have a “vow renewal”/wedding a year later. She could also take the signs the universe keeps throwing at her and call it all off.

  10. Valiantly Varnished says:

Let me go get my tiny violin.

  11. L4frimaire says:

She probably never wanted a garden tent reception in the first place, which was a bit of a step down. So a legitimate excuse to rebook a nicer setting later, assuming the whole thing isn’t called off.

  12. Rapunzel says:

Suspect that once this is over, Beatrice’s wedding will suddenly be televised to demonstrate “a return to normal.” It will suddenly become huge.

    • Lady D says:

There is never going to be a normal again though. How many hundreds of thousands have lost their jobs or are going to lose their jobs? Next up, the little businesses start to close. The small cafe’s, the printers, the pet food store, then the smaller chain stores. Canadian Tire which is a Canadian wide chain carries satellite stores within it like Sports Chek or Marks, and they just closed all satellite stores and are starting to close the big ones. The big ones anchor the small malls which will also go under when they do. People who have been making car payments for 4.5 years will have to give up their vehicles. Without jobs, how many are going to lose their homes after losing their home based business? Then there’s those who can’t go back to work because their only babysitter, usually a family member, has succumbed to the disease. We’re getting a new normal, folks.

      • SomeChick says:

The banks need to step up and suspend car/home repossession, mortgage payments and so forth.

They had a huge part in causing the underlying financial crisis. Forcing people underwater now is extra brutal.

If retail can do the right thing and support workers through the closures/limited operations, the banks can certainly afford to do so. Also insurers.

They can use the money they stole from all of our retirement accounts to fund it!

  13. Christina says:

Who cares? The world is going to hell in a hand basket. Instant unemployment, disease, bankruptcy, dying while isolated. Honestly, who cares about her wedding?

  14. Lowrider says:

Why should Beatrice “run” or “call it off”??? These were the same comments said about Harry marrying Meghan.

The folks that need to run/call it off are the ones marrying INTO that rotten family. They are the ones that stand to lose the most out of life. So, lets hope Edo wakes up and realizes life is much better away from those trashy inbred parasites.

    • L4frimaire says:

I don’t think the men get as hard a time as the women who marry in. Edo will be fine, plus he’s upper crusty. My worry is the press coming after his child and his mother, or treating the little guy as less than since he’s a step- child, especially since we see how racist the British media is.

  15. vertes says:

Edo appears to have some sense of style, unlike B. Will he wait until after they marry (if they ever do) to fix her up a bit? I think his taste is much better than hers & surely he’s noticed that she’s a fashion disaster.

  16. MeghanNotMarkle says:

Maaaaaaaybe she should just take all the signs the universe has been throwing at her over this wedding and call the whole thing off. Yikes.

  17. Rachel says:

For the love of God, just get married in a private ceremony; no-one cares.

  18. HELEN says:

just here to pile onto all the “take heed of all the twists and turns that are giving you a chance to get the hint” hot takes

  19. Tia says:

The Church of England has just announced weddings should have no more than 5 people – the couple, the officiant and the two witnesses that are legally required.

  20. Abena Asantewaa says:

    Poor unlucky Beatrice!

  21. lili says:

Honestly, RUN, it’s destiny telling your to run in this case. Having said that, 5 people, so no guests at all I mean even the parents can’t come? That’s just cruel and sad.

  22. February Pisces says:

The only reason she would have barely there wedding now/ party later is if she’s scared he’ll bail. If not she’ll push the date back.

  23. momcat says:

Longtime reader, new poster…I think Edo’s gonna bounce. He will persuade her to wait, and start edging away. I hope I’m wrong, but I think he’s bogus.
