Spain’s King Felipe & Queen Letizia are teleconferencing from home responsibly

Spanish Royals Video Conference at Zarzuela Palace

While I’m a fan of the Swedish royals, I think Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel look like a–holes as they continue to do public events and refuse to social-distance. On the other side, the Spanish royals seem to be taking the coronvirus pandemic seriously, perhaps because Spain has already been hit very hard, and it’s still being hit. Spain has already had 5000 virus deaths and the country has 54,000 reported cases. Spain screwed up in the early days of the pandemic, with soccer games still happening in early and mid-March and people not taking self-isolation seriously. Spain is still working to flatten its curve and they’re basically in the same kind of lockdown as Italy.

So, Queen Letizia and King Felipe are here to show other royals how it’s done in the age of corona. Letizia and Felipe released photos of their work yesterday, where they teleconferenced/Skyped with health care workers and emergency services from an office in their royal residence, Zarzuela Palace, in Madrid. There were also a few photos of Felipe meeting with a few people in person, none of them wearing masks, in the same office. He kept apart from those people by about four or five feet. Which is still too close, but I wonder if those people were his office staff anyway (meaning, he’s working with a skeleton staff already, and they’ve already been exposed to each other).

Anyway, I have no idea why other royals across Europe aren’t doing this – switching their events to Skype calls or teleconferences or whatever, and then just releasing photos of those meetings. That’s the responsible way to do “royal work” at this time.

See that is how you release photos of you working without looking like a big giant fake. The contrast to those staged pics of Will and Kate are stark indeed. However, to achieve such authentic looking work photos, you actually have to work while your picture is taken.

After your comments here and seeing this article, just wait…they will arrange for the same soon hahah

And unlike Cate and Will who looked like they were pretending to work (hello empty desks )
Letizia and Felipe looks like the are actually doing something.

Exactly, those pictures really emphasize how ridiculous and fake the Cambridges looked in those images of them “working”.

      • ArtHistorian says:

It would be hilarious to see the Cambridges’ “work” pictures side by side with those of the Spanish King and Queen.

They all kind of comically remind me of that old Hilary Clinton political ad where she’s sitting ready by her phone in the dark at 3am wearing a suit—cause you’ve always got to ready😂.

William & Kate look so childish, lightweight and unaccomplished (which they are) when compared to other royals—either those currently on the throne or waiting in the wings. However, they and their handlers only have themselves to blame for that. They’ve extended adolescence too long for these nearly 40 year-olds.

I have watched those photos again, and it’s tragic.
Felipe and Letizia look serious, and concentrated and that is what is required, Will and Kate looked like a photo shot of an ’80s soap opera!

Now THAT’S how you show getting work done, although I don’t know of any workplace that keeps a halberd by the door!

  4. Léna says:

I’m sorry I don’t want to be rude but where are you getting those Spain numbers ? In France there are reports of more than 8000 deaths and more than 94000 cases of Coronavirus for Spain already….

The Danish royal family have been doing teleconferences as well. It’s on their Instagram page.

  6. Cathrine says:

Re about why other royals in Europe hasn’t done this, the Norwegian royal family had done this for weeks. The King and Queen have been in quarantine since they came back from an official state visit Jordan a month ago.

  7. Sid says:

Kaiser, most of the continental royals have been doing this for a while now. Victoria and Daniel are an outlier.
