Jennifer Lopez & Alex Rodriguez got their Miami gym to open up just for them

Jennifer Lopez arrives at the gym sporting a matching red and white ensemble

My gym has been closed since… March 15th. Which I think was completely responsible. I went to the gym like I usually do in that week before it closed, and people had already started to avoid it. There were signs all around about wiping down equipment and covering your mouth if you cough. At first, my YMCA just announced that they were shutting down for two weeks. Then they extended the shutdown for another month, and I fully expect another extension to at least June. My point is that I miss the gym. I miss the controlled environment, I miss zoning out on the treadmill and the bike and doing my rotations on weight machines. I miss it all. And I’ll be there whenever the gym opens up again. And in the meantime, I’m walking and hiking outdoors and it’s fine and enjoyable (but I’m still gaining weight).

Here’s what I would never do, though: I would never expect my gym to open just for ME. If you’re a rich celebrity, you’re used to getting special, exclusive access to everything. For Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, that apparently means using their VIP status to get a Miami gym to open just for them.

One of the photo agencies (Backgrid) actually had photos of this gym when it finally closed down due to the coronavirus. The gym is in Miami, Florida, and Florida has utterly f–ked up their response to the pandemic, so this gym only closed last week. What f–king kills me is that I know for a fact that Jennifer and A-Rod have a home gym. Maybe it is not AS fully equipped as a regular gym, but they definitely have a nice spread in their home. So why take the f–king chance on it? Why go out and demand that this gym be opened just for them?? I love J.Lo but this kind of sh-t just makes me want to eat the rich.

Yeah, this is not only entitled and awful, it’s also personally dangerous for them and the employees now having to come in to help them. Just … Super dumb for a couple that, like you said, undoubtedly have a fabulous home gym.

    • Sally says:

BUT she can not get attention if she is home. This really makes me sick. This woman will do anything to stay in the news…..at the risk of others. pos

    • Ravensdaughter says:

      Diva and Devo….

    • (TheOG) jan90067 says:

Each of them, let alone both together, can afford and have the space, to add whatever they want to to their home gym, or even put weight machines out in their pool area/backyard…whatever. They can even take unlimited pics of each other and post it every which way/place they want! WTH!!

While I WISH these idiots/celebrities weren’t looked up to as if they were Gods, they ARE, and they’re setting a bad example. FFS, do they not own a tv?? Have they not heard a SINGLE BIT of medical information about this virus in the last few weeks??

Sorry.. sigh… I’m just tired, anxious, and scared. And we have idiots running the asylum and down all the corridors…Darwin can’t work fast enough!

  2. Erinn says:

I mean – it’d make more sense for them to just buy whatever equipment they’re missing. Hell, I bet depending on what it was, their gym would have even sold them one of their machines since they’re shut down. This was just such a weird move.

    • smcollins says:

I work for a sporting goods company and the amount of exercise and weight equipment being ordered for curbside pick-up and shipping has been unreal. Their little private gym session is completely unnecessary and completely selfish & entitled. They could easily add to their home gym (because you know they’ve got one) if they wanted to, but showing how oh-so-special they are is apparently more important 🙄

    • minx says:

I doubt their home gym needs any equipment. They’re just thirsty.

    • Erinn says:

Yeah, and knowing that both JLo and ARod love attention – it’s not that surprising that they did this, sadly.

    • Arpeggi says:

When gyms were told to close, my ballet barre studio offered to rent portable bars for 20$/pandemic so that we could do online workouts. There are ways to make deals with your gym even if you aren’t a celebrity so yeah, their going to the gym seems unecessary and thirsty AF. Super tacky and a terrible PR move

  3. Blaire says:

I guess it’s more important for J Lo to keep them abs than it is for her to keep healthy OR keep others healthy.

  4. Tate says:

This is disgusting behavior for the times we are living in. Just gross

    • Chica71 says:

Considering that Trump was asking A-ROD for Coronavirus advice. THIS Behavior is Deadly especially for people who look to them as role models.

      • Who is Justice Beaver? says:

EAT. THE. RICH! F*ck these entitled thoughtless a-holes blasting their bad behavior for others to emulate. With regard to Orange Jesus, which I call him now after he basically intimated he was the saviour of 2.5 million peeps, I hate to wish someone ill…but he lacks a soul so GAME ON!

  5. OriginalLala says:

Putting the gym employees in danger because you want to flex your power and your abs?? effing disgusting! The pandemic really showing us the true nature of many of the rich and powerful.

  6. Other Renee says:

They should be ashamed of themselves. I don’t know why anyone loves JLo. She proves over and over how selfish, smug and narcissistic she is. The well-being of others means absolutely nothing to her.

    • Naddie says:

      Because she looks good.

      • Original Jenns says:

And a lot of that is thanks to photoshop (she looks fine but her skin is constantly smoothed over. She’s got wrinkles and pores, the same skin as my 60 year old mom). Sorry but I’m disgusted with her and ARod. Guess we know their priorities. Remember this in a year.

    • Jackie O'Glasses says:

She’s always seemed like a materialistic asshole to me. I read somewhere that she doesn’t pay her employees very well either (not sure if that’s true). And she’s a terrible actress. I don’t get the love for her.

  7. My3cents says:

This week in “Celebrities they’re just like us!”

  8. Arpeggi says:

It’s wrong at so many levels, I just can’t… Seriously, f*&k them! The way Florida has mishandled the whole thing is astounding, things will get real bad in the next 2 weeks and that’s in part because of situations like this

    • MiamiMami says:

Some of us have been home, at a personal cost, and schools in the county are on the 3rd week of remote. She’s endangering her neighbors.

  9. Desmond says:

She wanted to be seen and photographed. That’s why she didn’t use her private gym. The endless hunger for attention that these rich celebrities have is off-putting.

  10. emmy says:

This is just not a good look, it’s bad PR, and it’s in bad taste. Not to mention unnecessarily dangerous. If I had a mansion, nobody would ever see me near a gym. I don’t like the smell or the germs, even in good times. I’d pay 3 personal trainers to do different things, I would get a treadmill and a bike and whatever else I need. I do like running outside though. But that’s still allowed.

  11. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

How…entitled. How reckless. How utterly oblivious to the health, safety and well-being of the gym’s staff.
But they’ve gotta get those paparazzi pics, right?

  12. Mia4s says:

    Gross. Break out the guillotines.

At least write a big cheque to charity before being seen like this (that’s goes for Affleck and Whatsherface too before pap walk #28,367).

  13. Sarah says:

This is terrible. I’ve had a soft spot for her (and her crazy personal life) for a long time but this is BAD. You are endangering others. Do what you want to yourself but do not endanger others.

  14. LindaS says:

Not that I ever would but if I was going to do this I would at least do it in the dark when no one could see me. Oh I forgot they are doing this so they can be seen and stay relevant. They obviously dont care about other people.

  15. Sasha says:

With all the money these two have combined, why don’t they have their own gym in their home(s)?
They didn’t twist anyone’s arm. The owner thought it beneficial to put his workers at risk.

    • Micky says:

I agree! I actually prefer working out at home. If I had their kind of money, I’d have the ultimate home gym.

      • minx says:

I’m sure they have a state of the art home gym, but as others have pointed out they want to be photographed in workout clothes.

      • Sasha says:

        @Micky So would I!
@minx Boy, do I feel stupid. Hadn’t thought of that.
Geeze, can they be more superficial, especially now?

  16. Ali says:

If you ever thought it was just A-Rod who was the narcissist in this relationship…

  17. nic says:

    Wow. What scum.

  18. lobstah says:

You have to wonder how many celebrity relationships are going to tank because they’re not getting their normal amount of attention.

  19. lizzieb says:

Jenny from the block is a blockhead. Always suspected he was an entitled prat, but had hoped she had some sense. Seems not.

  20. Jules says:

Wow. Celebrities are really showing their true colors, how entitled and tone deaf they are. But this really takes the cake. I’m curious to see, once this pandemic passes and we are in our new normal, if there will be a major backlash to the blind worship of celebrities.

  21. MellyMel says:

This is wrong and so entitled! And yes, Florida, especially South FL is a hot bed of this virus right now. She’s putting herself and the gym employees at risk. They should have a well-equipped gym at home and if they don’t, they have more than enough money to buy equipment.

  22. lucy2 says:

That is AWFUL. Not only making the employees go out to open it, but then have to clean up after them too.
Their home certainly has some gym equipment, but it also has a pool, and what looks like a big yard and driveway. Go run around. Play with the kids. Swim.

  23. Kate says:

Hopefully they’re paying extra so that the gym can keep paying its employees?

  24. Jerusha says:

They could IG their AT HOME gym workouts. That way, stay in the public eye and get good vibes like all the celebs who are doing at home concerts or reading to children. Win, win.

  25. Frida_K says:

I know some personal trainers and one gym owner and this is a really tough time for them. Maybe ARod & Jenny from the Block paid a lot of money to this gym so that someone could open it up for them, clean it, and re-sanitize after they left.

If someone got good money out of this, maybe it’s not quite so horrible after all.

    • lucy2 says:

I sure hope so. But they also could have floated them some cash without actually going.

      • OriginalLara says:

        Exactly!

      • Frida_K says:

That would have been for sure the best.

I’m strongly on the side of staying home, so my original comment was more of a “just a thought” remark.

It seems so odd to do this, so my only explanation was that surely they did it so that they could give the gym a lot of money for the experience of being the only ones in it at this time.

But a donation would have been the healthier and wiser choice. I know this.

    • Swack says:

What if that someone got coronavirus from it? Was that money worth it?

    • Izzy says:

You know what’s tougher? Watching people die from this disease because people can’t stay inside. STAY. AT. HOME. It’s hard, but not as hard as watching people die.

  26. Michael says:

What a disgusting pap stroll. She should be ashamed of herself. And spending 24/7 trying to look hot is so unhot. Go away

  27. Sarah says:

God, they are both SUCH a$$holes. Zero respect for either of them.

  28. OriginalLara says:

It’s not the rich in general. It’s Jlo and ARod (and a few other airheads) and I don’t have any love left for her whatsoever if she keeps pulling sh*t like this.
Dolly Parton contributed $1mil to finding a vaccine. Rihanna did something similar. What do these two dumbheads do?

  29. Izzy says:

This enraged me so much I tweeted the story to our county mayor. I hope he orders them to stay indoors under threat of arrest, and I hope the state pulls the gym’s license. NO EXCUSE. We all have ONE JOB – STAY THE F*** AT HOME.

    • carmen says:

No doubt the gym was paid very generously to offer them exclusive access to a “closed to the public” facility. Hopefully your tweet doesn’t fall on deaf ears and justice is served.

  30. Ann says:

There used to be multiple shows dedicated to how rich and famous people do stuff and this reminds so much of that. I hear Robin Leach in my head when I read stories like this. JLo was a regular fixture on these shows when I watched them (early 2000s, mostly on VH1) so this seems on brand to me. It’s annoying and very irresponsible just like it always was. Just work out at home, Jenny from the block!

  31. Kyla says:

Fuck then. That’s some entitled BS. I have to agree there’s no reason for them to be there other than craving attention. I’m glad the paparazzi was there to capture it, so we know exactly where these two celebrities’ priorities lie.

Personally, I miss my spin class so much. I wish I had the money and space to order a Peleton right now.

    • whatWHAT? says:

“I’m glad the paparazzi was there to capture it”

even if it’s a gym that’s popular with celebs and the paps would hang out there like they do at other places (in LA, it’s The Ivy, etc), IT WAS CLOSED and the paps would have no reason to be there other than…

…JLo or A-Roid called them to let them know that the gym had opened, and for them only.

There are certainly times when the paps are hanging around, but this is not one of them, IMO. I’m sure they were “summoned”.

PS I hope that didn’t come off as me “correcting” you…I just get so annoyed at celebs who do stuff like this, esp when it’s SO OBV that they were called by the celeb.

  32. MangoAngel says:

JLo has been known for serious diva behavior for aaaaages, so this actually doesn’t surprise me at all. Two stupidly wealthy people with supremely inflated egos and hardcore belief in their own awesomeness…yup. This sounds totally on par.

  33. Deanne says:

So she/they needed attention so badly that they put who knows how many other people at risk? A-holes, the both of them and really bad examples. They have the finest home gym money can buy and still their thirst is so strong that they pull this stunt. Pathetic.

  34. Trillian says:

We are under lockdown here (Germany) and gyms and such are simply not permitted to open. For no-one.

  35. Ramona Q. says:

So unless there’s some machine or something in that gym that they must do a few times a week, and they plan on doing this at least a few times a week – what in God’s name was so important in that gym that they had to do ONE TIME? Any exercise is pointless if you do it ONE TIME.

  36. JennyJazzhands says:

When the gyms closed, I ordered the weights I needed to keep up my routine online and just do my cardio outside.
I’m a teacher and I figured it out for 30 bucks.

  37. StrawberryBlonde says:

Very poor form. The entitlement of some rich and famous people is astounding.

My husband and I wonder how all this will make us reconsider who is actually essential. How about all the sanitation workers, farmers, truckers, law enforcement, grocery and pharmacy workers, anyone in the food and drug supply chain, health care workers to mention a few.

The arts are important but do we really need multi multi millionaire actors? My husband likes the idea that no billionaires are allowed. You are allowed to have $999 million but every cent after that goes to fund something that benefits society as a whole. Radical but really…no one needs a billion dollars to themselves and no one needs to force a gym to open just for them during a world wide pandemic.

    • BlahBlah says:

I was just going to say the same exact thing. This pandemic and being locked down has made me realize how messed up society is.

None of these celebrities really contribute enough to society to deserve their huge paychecks. I know this is a celebrity gossip site, but I would love for celebrity worship to go away.

    • lucy2 says:

We need the wealth tax. Badly.

    • whatWHAT? says:

“My husband likes the idea that no billionaires are allowed. You are allowed to have $999 million but every cent after that goes to fund something that benefits society as a whole. Radical but really…no one needs a billion dollars to themselves”

A-FREAKIN-MEN! my bf and talk about this too. it’s not only the hoarding of wealth, it’s also that some of these uber-wealthy people then ACTIVELY try to prevent others from becoming rich, too. once you get to the point that you (and your children, AND your grandchildren…) have more money than you’d be able to spend in several lifetimes, YOU DON’T GET TO KEEP ANYMORE OF IT.

and @Blah Blah, this whole situation has awakened a LOT of people to the problems of wealth disparity in this country. I hope they stay woke.

  38. Michelle says:

On a side note…who TF wears hoops this size to work out?? Where is her water bottle, gym bag, towel or is it beneath her to carry all of that?

  39. Naddie says:

No, seriously. I’m shocked with the amount of people minimally surprised by this. Who would’ve thought that a couple who’s all about cameras and appearance could do this? No, not a singer who made a song praising her own rear.

  40. ME says:

I love J.Lo but this is ridiculous of her and A-rod!

  41. 2lazy4username says:

How else will she have the opportunity to give her patented SexyFace to the public? 🙄

    • L4frimaire says:

This is how I know her and Ben Affleck are true soulmates. Those two love being papped. Ahh, the ones who got away😘.

  42. usedtobe says:

Well if I didn’t realize what entitles assholes they were before, I sure do now.

  43. Jaded says:

Poor move, says all the wrong things about entitlement, stardom and privilege during a dire time for so many, it’s like they’re rubbing it in the public’s face that they’re “special”. And I know I’m going to get dragged for it but I don’t think J-Lo has such an amazing body, she’s built like one of those clown punching bags with the big bottom and tiny top.

  44. L4frimaire says:

Ok this is just stupid and reeks of show- off privilege. Don’t tell me those two don’t have a fully set up gym in their large home. Also, even if you disinfect surfaces, the virus may still be hiding out in air ducts or little areas we may miss. If they’re so bored at home, go for a run or bike ride. Wear a mask if they don’t want to be recognized. Ugh, some people.

  45. Lucy says:

Time for this pointless and untalented celeb to be thrown out into the trash where she and that gross creature A-Rod belong.

  46. Bucky Bieber says:

And the sycophants did what they told them to. Where’s the dignity?

lol. I’m in a mood this morning.

  47. Brianna says:

You’d think both being millionairs ten times over, would have home gyms and trainers at home. Instead they are falunting the wealth and status especially in these hard times of corona virus . Where people lives and livelihoods are at risk.
Also the gym is the most germ infested place to go too you’d think these two entitled morons would know better .

    • Karis Pardashian says:

Even though celebs can afford their own gyms they go to public gyms because they’re nothing without an audience.

  48. Allergy says:

    Morons.

  49. theotherViv says:

I agree with you on the Eating The Rich. At least with her that would be A LOT OF lean ham.

  50. Marigold says:

Okay, so let me just put a different perspective on this.

That gym, which they clearly enjoy using (and the ritual of going to the gym is important to the mental health of a lot of people), is probably suffering right now. No new memberships are happening. They are probably, like most businesses, in danger of closing if this goes on much longer.

These two very wealthy people are most-likely literally saving that gym. They are single-handedly keeping that gym from going under.

And it doesn’t break any distancing rules if they’re the only ones in there. Rich people rent out facilities all of the time. Would I spend my money on this? No. Do I have enough money to rent out a park or a restaurant or club or gym? No.

I think blaming all of this on “entitlement” is understandable, but look at it from another direction. Every small business in the country is praying for a rich celebrity to miss their service enough to keep it open out of entitlement right now, right?

I can’t hate on them for this. It’s their money. They’re not hurting anyone. The apoplectic responses about spreading the virus are over-the-top in this scenario because it’s not like they’re going to the grocery store and touching people. They’re using an empty gym, and they’re not exposing anyone to anything. It’s very likely saving a business and whatever employees it has on staff from going completely under next month. So…that’s my take on it.

    • Allergy says:

They could have donated a million to that gym to keep it going in the future.
They just wanted to leave the house because they had started to feel as if they don’t exist without paparazzi.

  51. Summer says:

This is elitist, however, I drove past my gym the other day and thought about what the employees are possibly doing now. Are they ok? Salons, tattoo shops? All suffering. If they were able to pay the staff and keep a safe distance, I don’t know. If it helps the owners and employees? I would be lost right now without the amazing trail behind my place (that I appreciate so much more now) and YouTube kickboxing and pilates.

I have to add, I had the thought today. Wouldn’t most celebrities and the rich have home gyms?

  52. Flying fish says:

    Two narcissistic morons.
Jlo cannot act, cannot sing ass is officially cancelled.

  53. Jackie-Oh says:

We are fighting two pandemics: Coronavirus and stupidity

  54. Miatagal says:

That gym should be put out of business. No elitism in a pandemic!

  55. Valerie says:

Still Jenny from the block, eh?

  56. Lulu says:

“Don’t be fooled by the rocks that I got, I’m still I’m still Jenny from the block”.

    Sure Jan.

  57. Ox says:

Don’t see any problem. As long as they keep their distance and all the equipment is sanitised. Lots of gyms and personal trainers are struggling and closing at the moment. This is a good way to support local business.
I still train one on one with my coach. Everything is cleaned up after every customer and customers don’t cross each other.
