Here are some photos of Donald Trump, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Ivanka Trump yesterday during the “Small Business Relief Update.” I actually read an article a few weeks ago about how Mnuchin was surprisingly efficient when it came to dealing with congressional leaders of both parties during this, the NuDepression. This update was allegedly about how the administration will give out $50 billion in low-interest loans to small businesses now. Yeah, I doubt it. I bet most of the “loan” money will be going towards bailouts for airlines and corporations, not small businesses. *deep sigh* Meanwhile, it looks like Trump is looking for some cost-cutting measures. He wants to defund the World Health Organization, because he’s Hector Projector and he thinks WHO mishandled the pandemic.
President Trump lashed out on Tuesday at the World Health Organization, choosing a new political enemy to attack and threatening to withhold funding from a premier health institution even as a deadly virus ravages nations around the globe.
“We’re going to put a hold on money spent to the W.H.O. We’re going to put a very powerful hold on it and we’re going to see,” Mr. Trump said during the daily coronavirus briefing at the White House, accusing the organization of having not been aggressive enough in confronting the virus. “They called it wrong. They call it wrong. They really, they missed the call.”
In effect, Mr. Trump sought to denounce the W.H.O. for the very missteps and failures that have been leveled at him and his administration. Public health experts have said the president’s public denials of the virus’s dangers slowed the American response, which included delayed testing and a failure to stockpile protective gear. In fact, the W.H.O. sounded the alarm in the earliest days of the crisis, declaring a “public health emergency of international concern” a day before the United States secretary of health and human services announced the country’s own public health emergency and weeks before Mr. Trump declared a national emergency.
After saying flatly that the United States had decided to “put a hold” on the organization’s money, the president later denied that he had made those remarks and appeared to back down.
“I’m not saying that I’m going to do it. But we’re going to look at it,” he said. When a reporter noted that he had indeed said the funding would end, Mr. Trump insisted, wrongly: “No, I didn’t. I said we’re going to look at it.”
The budget for the W.H.O. is about $6 billion, which comes from member countries around the world. In 2019, the last year for which figures were available, the United States contributed about $553 million.
I’d just like to take a moment and give one small props to all of the transcribers at various newspapers. Can you imagine how much it must suck to have to listen to Donald Trump’s vacuous, idiotic words every day and know it’s your job to make that jumble of nonsense somehow comprehensible? Anyway, I was going to say “of course Trump won’t defund WHO,” but truly, who knows. He gets away with everything. I think it’s interesting that the NYT states it plainly, that Trump is searching for his next bogeyman. It’s all China’s fault! No, it’s all WHO’s fault! It’s all Gov. Cuomo’s fault! It’s… it’s… Ivanka’s fault!

Europe is furious at the way Trump first tried you buy the “cure” from a German company and then wanted it to be exclusive to America only.
Now he blocked 50 million masks which Europe bought fair and square weeks ago from an American company.
Europe will punish Trump once this is all over by excluding America financially.
The rage Europeans have against America is huge and will probably takes months if not years before people trusted America again.
He also ordered 3M to stop sending masks to Canada. He’s causing irreparable damage with their closest allies.
They worked out a deal. 3M is sending the masks.
Not before they’d blocked multiple shipments, though. Millions of masks were held back from reaching some of our most populated areas – risking the lives of every health care worker out there breaking their backs to try to keep things under control.
We’ve also had shipments arrive which were much smaller than they were supposed to be – 500,000 compared to 3 million. They allowed someone to bid higher despite the order being squared away already. There are SO many Canadian nurses crossing the border to work in the US. And he doesn’t give a flying f-ck.
He’s implied that surprise troops being stationed at the border were because of steel tariffs.
“We have very strong deployments on the southern border, with Mexico. We had some troops up in Canada. But I’ll find out about that,” he said, before suddenly linking the issue to steel tariffs.”I guess it’s equal justice to a certain extent,” he said.”
He’s trying to stoke up fears that people are trying to ‘escape’ to the US. He’s putting his troops out there to have a dick measuring contest. He’s out there trying to squash other countries while ours is out there assuring the people of remote Alaskan towns that they’ll still receive needed supplies from Canada.
During a freaking global pandemic, he’s spending his time focusing on screwing anyone and everyone over, and that’s pretty low even for this human dumpster fire.
Deal or not, serious damage has already been done.

Canada hates Dump and even conservatives who somewhat supported him, like Doug Ford, now are very upset at what he’s done. Canada and the US have had a lengthy trade relationship and both countries are interdependent on each other. It’s only the positive relationships with the border state governors that keeps this going. The next US president will have a lot of work to do to fix the mess that the Orange monster started.
We talk here in the US about the Obama “apology tour” when he came into office, to try to repair some of the damage bush had done to our standing in the world.
The next president is going to have to make one hell of an apology tour, and I’m not sure that will be enough.
It’s frustrating bc most americans did NOT want him in office. He’s so obsessed with his electoral victory bc he lost the popular vote. We know what’s he doing and how he’s treating other countries and at this point I just feel so powerless.
It will take years I feel because the damage is too big.
Most of us aren’t angry at innocent Americans but I can say that Trump supporters are loathed and not welcome in most places.
You will need another Martin Luther King to repair the damage.
The problem is that there is no person who could come into office and undo the damage. Not in 4 years, not in 8. As long as the current election/voting system is in place, nobody knows when the next Donald will be elected so the thinking will probably be “Right, we like you. But we can’t trust you with treaties because you’ll be gone in a few years and the next person might f*ck us over.”
The trust issue isn’t really related to Trump per se. It’s knowing that the system produced him and there are no guarantees anymore. I don’t see how any apology tour could fix this.
The EU has to fix its own sh*t and become more assertive and independent. It’s the only way for us. It’ll come at a price but this is where we are.

Look at the death rates at other countries and try that again. South Korea had its first case the same day and has way fewer infections and deaths. And they are next door to China.

His complete butchering of a health disaster has turned a lot of his educated voters against him. Higher salary doctors: surgeons and anesthesiologists, typically lean republican. This is anecdotal, but in my husband’s surgery group of 20, a few didn’t vote in the last election and the rest voted for Trump. Not a one will openly endorse him now. Let’s hope that they remember this in November.
It is so discouraging to hear that these high income earning docs you speak of, who lead incredibly privileged lives, are so selfish. They have more than what they need to live luxuriously but yet, by voting republican, they are voting against women’s rights, environmental protection, animal rights/biodiversity, healthcare for all, social safety nets for those less fortunate than themselves, etc., etc., etc. This tells me who they really are at their core. It’s all about wall street. It’s all about acquisition at any cost to others.

The National Post just published a piece that suggested Canada’s prime minister should acknowledge the WHO’s mishandling of this crisis. According to the author, Lorne Gunter, the WHO “permitted China to deny the magnitude of its crisis for nearly a month”. The piece also suggested that Taiwan’s low infection and death rate is partly because it’s not a member of WHO and doesn’t have to follow IHR. Taiwan mitigated travel bans immediately.
This National Post article was an interesting perspective. The gist of it; blaming China and the WHO for the global scope of this crisis may not be so nuts.

Interesting Trump would make an outrageous claim and threat sure to pull focus the same day Wisconsin forced our primary elections through during what he has claimed to be an apex week for COVID 19 cases and deaths in the US, in order to get a conservative state Supreme Court judge elected, further solidifying their stranglehold on checks and balances for gerrymandering and voter disenchantment, this time reinforced by Brett Kavanaugh and the US Supreme Court, further strengthening potential for GOP/Trump victory in our very important swing state. Probably setting the new low for modern voter suppression and gleeful sadism by the GOP toward dem and PoC voters. Very interesting.
