People: The Queen ‘has impeccable judgment’ except for all the times she doesn’t

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit the London Ambulance Service during the Coronavirus crisis!

As many of you know, I have gone through a journey with my feelings about Queen Elizabeth over the past year especially. The Queen spent much of fall/winter 2018 doing very little to help the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Which, possibly, we could say “fair enough, the Queen isn’t there to provide cover for her grandchildren.” The problem quickly became the comparison between the Sussexes versus the Duke of York. The Queen did the most to protect, shield and cover Andrew, but she wouldn’t breathe a word of support for H&M? Let’s not forget the Queen’s tone-deaf photo-ops with Andrew at church throughout 2019. Her immediate reaction to Andrew’s BBC interview debacle was to support him entirely and cover for him in the press. Even after Andrew stepped down from royal duties (on Charles’ say-so), the Queen still plotted to bring Andrew back into the fold AND she let him keep all of his military titles. All that combined with her shoddy treatment of Harry & Meghan… well, this B is cancelled. But of course, People Magazine is trying to convince us that she’s just a harmless old lady:

During her record-breaking 68 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth has prevailed throughout some of history’s most tumultuous times — and she is now drawing upon that experience amid the current pandemic crisis. In her recent addresses to the public in the U.K. and beyond, the 94-year-old monarch carefully captured the mood of the world, those who know her tell PEOPLE.

“She always hits the right mark. She has impeccable judgment,” one close royal source says in this week’s cover story.

In several video addresses from Windsor Castle, where she has been isolating with Prince Philip, 98, since March 19, the Queen recalled her wartime life alongside her younger sister Princess Margaret.

“She has always had this historical perspective about life, and now she embodies history,” says her biographer Robert Lacey, author of the books Monarch and Majesty. Adds Lacey: “It was interesting that she made the parallels with 1940 and then went on to explain that it is now a different sort of international struggle. It was sober and realistic, but there was a grounded optimism to it.”

Her friend Lady Carnarvon explains, “She is of the generation dedicated to duty and what you can do for others.”

[From People]

I think it’s perfectly fine to say “the Queen is about history and duty” and also say “the Queen is a tone-deaf a–hole who has made too many wrong moves during her reign.” The past year has been so eye-opening to just how bad her instincts are and how oblivious she is to everything outside of her narrow, parochial world. I really believe that the past year has done irreparable damage to the monarchy and that’s on Liz of House Petty.

Pfft, anyone who has seen the Crown knows she doesn’t have impeccable judgment. (I know its a fictionalized account, but some things were obviously true, like Aberfan and her slow response to that.) Then her response to Diana’s death – and those are two easy ones off the top of my head.

And that’s WITHOUT considering 2019 and the Andrew vs Sussex protection.

    • Osty says:

Exactly, the only reason petty betty gets all these fan fool praises is cos pple are brainwashed to believe she is perfect, she gets away with all those foolish moves cos pple are not ready to call her out.

      • yinyang says:

Dictatorships, monarchy, the Church, Big Corps all take advantage of the the poor, all have got to go.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Yep, brainwashed is correct. There is zero reason to have a monarchy in the modern era, when we know “God” did not select one bloodline to rule — and yet, Britain still has a monarchy. If it’s not brainwashing, then I cannot explain it.

      • Tessa says:

She made so many blunders. She should have let Diana keep the HRH for one thing.

    • Dinah says:

I’ve lost all respect for QEII and the British monarchy.

Whilst the whole British media and half the British nation attacked H&M and blamed them for their decision to live a more independent life as a family, she didn’t do nothing to stop the rumors and the attacks. She simple could have released an honest statement – no shady multi interpretable one, to clear their names, saying something as clear as this:

‘British media, commentators and you people, you are wrong. Harry and Meghan didn’t make a decision overnight. Since mounts my family and I are aware of their wish and plans for more independence and to become part time working royals and keep supporting me. In fact they have sent us a written plan already. But we didn’t take them too seriously and were not listening, because we didn’t want them to go. But since they have released their plans via their website now, to force us to talk to them, we are going to start talking and listening to them. We will start the talking now. Stop attacking them for my/our mistake’.

This is what she released AFTER THE SUMMIT,when she reached an agreement with H&M:

      Statement from the queen:
‘Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.
I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life. I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family.
It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life.

      • 809Matriarch says:

OMG yes! Even her sycophants know she is at fault! That is why they twist themselves into pretzels making up symbolic messages and “nods to” the Sussex family with the wearing of a certain brooch or color. If I’m Harry or Meghan, I ain’t thinking about the hidden meaning in a stupid brooch!

      • Tessa says:

She did not even bother to put a picture of her new great grandchild Archie in the collection of photos behind her when she gave the Christmas speech. ANd it was not just photos of direct heirs, since Louis and CHarlotte were seen in photographs on her desk.

  2. Molly says:

People always make excuses for the Queen when it comes to Andrew but I think it’s less about being a MOM and more about her own ego and her comfort. No one is allowed to tell her no (besides Philip) and she doesn’t like consequences for one of her favorites.

She’s also Edward’s mother but the Wessexes have to pay more for Bagshot Park and when their businesses failed, they were pulled back into the Firm and not given a fancy position like Andrew.

  3. minx says:

It’s easy to perform so-called “duties” when you are pampered beyond belief. So, I give her no credit for that.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

The amount of “duties” the royal family performs will NEVER equal what it costs to have a monarchy. And why pay money for *these* individuals? What have they done to “earn” their positions? None of them seem particularly bright or well -educated. Their “duties” could easily be performed by better-qualified and cheaper employees.

  4. Osty says:

Petty Betty is the last person I will say has better judgement, she and her mum messed up Charles to marry diana instead of his love, she messed up during Diana’s death and funeral, she messed up with Andrew and just recently messed up in dealing with the sussexes. If she had impeccable judgement she would have used the sussexes for the good of the crown . She would have put Crop rotation William in his place , she would have called the dogs off when they threw everything at her pregnant granddaughter in law .

    • booboocita says:

      “Crop rotation William.” BWAH-HA-HA!!!

    • Dinah says:

People need to realise that it’s this very queen, who, together with her advisors, has created the Royal Rota system/agreement with the media over 40 years ago, which ONLY involve journalists from the TABLOID AND RIGHT WING PRINT MEDIA (8 in total) and some picture agencies. No liberal or republican media are involved in the rota. This tells you enough.

This tells you what kind of coverage she wants for the monarchy/her family; no real scrutiny, no real questions asked. With this rota system she put her family and the whole monarchy up for blackmailing by the right wing/tabloid media. She has since then only changed it a bit after Diana’s dead, but the Royal Rota is as powerful and exclusive as ever.

You can’t associate change, modernity and innovation with her reign; she must be pretty sadistic to allow such a small powerful group of media to control (the narrative of) her family.

      • Dinah says:

So it makes pretty good sense as to why Meghan and Harry, liberal thinkers, don’t want to only deal with these right wing jornos at their engagements, tours, etc, let alone with how they are covered by most of these media.

At Harry and Meghan’s request, before and during the negotiations, queeny didn’t want to compromise the rota system (she and the other senior royals (Charles and William) still believe that they need the rota system for their survival). So Harry and Meghan finally dismissed the tabloids by themselves.

    • Tessa says:

Charles is the one to blame. Not the Queen. She did not “force” Charles to marry Diana. Camilla was said to be the one who pushed Diana as a bride because she thought she’d be compliant. She even hosted C and D on weekends. Charles told his biographer that he met Camilla and moved on because he was too young to marry there was no ‘conspiracy.’ Charles never even told Camilla to wait for him and they had a future together. Charles sloppy private life with his friends’ wives was the problem here. The QUeen IS to blame for not giving Diana more protection by insisting she keep the HRH. Also, the Queen welcomed the other woman into the family. If Charles really had wanted to marry Camilla back then it was up to him and him alone. THe Queen mum even facilitated CHarles cheating on Diana by providing a safe house for them in Scotland. ANd APB was supposedly the Queen Mum’s friend. The QUeen blundered in not doing something about CHarles private life. She looked the other way in 1980 when Charles caused some embarrassment by bringing Camilla along as “escort” to an official visit to Zimbabwe. She always waited until a Crisis happened.

  5. kellebelle says:

Except for when she never defended the vile lies that Meghan was faking her pregnancy and never paid for Northwestern herself? But chose to defend Kate’s hair extensions and botox, and Andrew’s sexcapades, with lies? Right, gotcha.

  6. Quincytoo says:

I have more self control with not inhaling this amazing bagel smeared with cream cheese and fresh strawberries than Petty Liz has impeccable judgement

Just kicked my plate clean and the above statement still rings true

  7. Meg says:

I laughed when the headline on people’s website was ‘she has impeccable judgement’ if that were true it would be clear to us instead you’re telling us how to think before we form opinions based on our own perceptions.
Between this and Trump and Jared saying this is a great success story we’ve met this challenge, they’re trying to control their images by forcing it down our throats

  8. Elizabeth says:

So the cover photo of the week for People is from a cropped photo of pedo Andrew and Liz?! Wooooooooooooow…….

  9. Lucylee says:

I could kick myself for believing all the propaganda about the “perfect” royals. Poor parent, oblivious to the suffering of family members trapped in dehumanizing roles within the monarchy, supporting sham marriages and cheating spouses, designating real human beings as “spares”, pedophilia are just a few things.
Oh the irony of one of the richest women the world urging poor people to support charities that were set up to help them in the first place. Don’t tell me she donates privately because I just don’t believe it.
Speeches that regurgitate the same tired phrases that only serve to placate supporters of a has been colonial power.
She is a bully in pastel colors. She let her sister and grandson twist slowly in the wind And be eaten alive by the tabloids when they tried to assert themselves.
Along with her courtiers she doesn’t know how to put a foot right.

  10. Lizzie says:

She was behind the biggest PR fail in Windsor history. Tony Blair had to convince her the monarchy was at stake when she snubbed Diana after her death. She had to lower the flag and make a video to apologize/explain her delay.

    • Nyro says:

Lizzie, TY! Charles had to fight her tooth and nail to allow Diana’s body to be brought back to England on one of their royal planes. QE went days and days without speaking to the public. She wanted a small private family funeral, as if D wasn’t a princess who was beloved around the globe. And apparently, she didn’t want the funeral to be at Westminster Abbey because she didn’t think Diana would have enough mourners to fill up the place. Wtf? The woman is clueless as well as petty. I was recently watching the documentary about the week of Diana’s death and funeral and I was just disgusted by the sycophant talking heads. They were practically blaming Diana for getting herself killed and inconveniencing the poor queen! Oh, and the dreadful public wailing and crying, how undignified! Didn’t they understand the queen was always right? Didn’t they realize she was too busy to speak to their grief because she was trying to protect her poor grandsons, the same grandsons she used as a PR shield by forcing them to walk behind their mother’s coffin as the whole world watched. Ugh, the whole thing was disgusting. I find her to be a ridiculous sham of a leader but I truly despise the royalists who prop her up no matter what she does and who it hurts.

      • Tessa says:

CHarles was said to be afraid for his life and said they will “blame me.” Charles should have been protective of Diana in life and he was the one said to want the HRH removed from Diana. Too little too late IMO. The Queen also took her grieving grandsons to a morning service and not one word was said about their mother in the CHurch Service.

    • Suz says:

Remember the footage of the royal standard being raised as QEII returned to Buckingham Palace after Diana’s death? The collective yelps of disgust from the crowd as the flag continued to be raised past the half mast will always stay with me.

      • Nyro says:

I’ll have to go look up that footage. In the documentary, the spin the establishment put out about her return to BP following Diana’s death was disgusting. Apparently, some little girl and her weirdo royalist granny gave the queen flowers and lamented over how poorly their dear queen had been treated over all of this dead Diana nonsense and that she was right to not speak to the public bcuz being “granny” comes first. * *rolls eyes** This girl and her granny have been quoted and interviewed for twenty years now, helping solidify the total myth that the queen was simply a granny protecting her grandkids, that she was unfairly treated in those seven days, and that ultumately, her actions and instincts were right. SMH

      • Becks1 says:

Nyro, I saw that one – the royalist grandmother and granddaughter were weird people to include, honestly, but I thought overall it did a pretty good job of slamming the queen’s response.

My “favorite” part was when they were debating whether or they would be able to fill Westminster Abbey, and they were concerned there would be a lot of empty seats. Fast forward to images of people like Hillary Clinton and Steven Spielberg walking in. It shows how ignorant the Queen was of Diana’s appeal, even after everything that had happened.

      • Tessa says:

she comforted her grandsons by sending them out hunting animals. And the morning after their mother died, the boys were rousted out for going to Church with cameras following them. When they got into the Church not one message of comfort to William and Harry nor was any mention of their mother made. Stone cold hearted Queen.

  11. MsIam says:

At the end of this doesn’t People have to sell magazines? I’m not sure what audience they feel is in the market for a puff piece on the queen. Unless this is a U.K. edition? Or is this in response to all of the negative shit that is going to come out about Andrew with that book and the Netflix special next week? “Don’t look at the corrupt son, look at the nice old granny over here!” Good luck with that, ma’am.

  12. Harla says:

I can’t wait for my subscription of People magazine to end, I will not be renewing it.

  13. Züri says:

Sure it’s impeccable, if you’re living in the long 19th century. This not only goes for the queen, but most of the rest of her family who continue to dwell within and perpetuate the norms and attitudes which developed during that era.

  14. ABritGuest says:

this piece reminds me that the Queen has had named friends& her cousins talk about her, maybe brief on her perspective many times. But I remember the ‘against protocol’ when people like Meghan’s friend Daniel was in that Gayle King CBS special.

Nobody is perfect but it’s especially laughable to say the Queen has excellent judgement given recent crisis’ such as her shady dealings during the parliament prorogue drama, openly supporting Andrew& trying to sneak him back into royal duties with that message on her behalf to the Chinese ambassador (and Not convinced she won’t keep trying if his finances are a mess-better get him back on the public purse). Let’s not even get into managing the recent family warfare& internal leaking

  15. Nic919 says:

The Queen is horrible at anything relating to her family. Until cover up for the sex trafficker started, the worst mistake was the huge PR error that happened with Diana’s death. They did a movie about it FFS.

And then there is the Charles and Diana mess, and Fergie and the criminal.

The fact she didn’t stop the racist attacks against her granddaughter in law by the tabloid media, but she could shut down the media on the criminal behaviour of her son tells you all you need to know.

    • Tessa says:

The Queen did not listen to Diana. And she and CHarles took the HRH from her and she should have kept it because she was the mother of a future King. She also did not nip in the bud Charles’ sloppy personal life. She was warned about Charles’ involvement with married Camilla in the late 1970s and did nothing. SHe treated Diana’s death as a nuisance and did not even have prayers read at the CHurch Service on the morning of August 31 with her grandsons present. She allowed William to snub his brother’s wife and behave badly toward her. She should have had some words with him.

  16. Abena Asantewaa says:

Any wonder that all but one of her children are divorced. Not counting Earl of Snowden and Peter Phillips. She panders to the media, and follows their direction, pratically a hostage.

    • Nyro says:

She and Philip set a horrible example when it came to family values. She’s a very weak woman who let her husband walk all over her. For her entire reign, the men in the grey suits have told her when to jump and how high. And she and her whole family are held hostage by the tabloids because she never possessed the courage to tell them to go go eff themselves. Courage that the Sussexes have in spades. She’s a sham of a leader.

    • Tessa says:

I think it’s the ones who divorced who have themselves to blame. She did not force Charles and ANne to cheat nor did she “make” Andrew behave the way he did. Actually she spoiled Andrew and yes, Charles also allowing him to marry his mistress.

  17. Faye G says:

I’m really wondering if the pandemic will change the monarchy for good. This time period has exposed the glaring chasm between the privileged RF and the regular people trying to survive The queen has done next to nothing, as have the Cambridges, aside from a couple of who-cares zoom calls. I know the queen still has a lot of fans, but the ugliness behind the throne has been unveiled and it can’t be covered up again.

    • Harper says:

There was an opinion piece in The Guardian yesterday saying that the Queen has done very little during the pandemic (two televised messages) and shouldn’t they all be taking another look at how useless the Royals are? So yes, it’s happening.

  18. paddingtonjr says:

I have been anglophile for a long time. I woke up early for Diana’s wedding and funereal and watched Andrew & Sarah get married. I defended TQ and felt sorry for her during the “annus horribilis”, but the events of the last year have shown that, while the idea of giving “her whole life” to being monarch is admirable, it is time for her to step down.

There has been a direct comparison between how Andrew, who at the very least has been associating with a known pedophile and human trafficker while obstructing justice, has been treated and how H&M, who fell in love and tried to represent TQ well while continuing and establishing their own initiatives, have been treated. In short, Andy, who may have committed actual crimes, was allowed to “retire” while keeping his home, his benefits and his appointments. Harry was effectively stripped of his military appointments and he and Meghan had to endure press abuse that far exceeded the “Duchess of Pork” and “War of the Walses” gossip of the 1980s/1990s before choosing to leave and still being attacked. It is very clear that there is one set of rules for the monarch’s son and another for her grandson and granddaughter-in-law.

  19. L4frimaire says:

Why are these American magazines repping so hard for the British royal family, especially in an election year., with so many issues and other stories? This is so stupid. Would settle for an article in a Jill Biden or potential women VP picks. We don’t need this. They don’t live here or do anything for us.

  21. chailatte says:

Even though People is an American magazine, the editor is British. Seems like there is some weird, obsessive need for the British royals to be popular in the US and plastering them on American magazine covers is part of the popularity plan to force them in our faces. Expect to see more coverage of them in People until circulation drops to an all time low or they put an American back at the helm of the magazine.
