Emily Ratajkowski went blonde months into lockdown: love it or hate it?

Generally speaking, I think many people in lockdown gained weight and messed with their hair. It was like the thing to do – DIY haircuts, DIY dye jobs and cooking/baking. I’m just saying, there will be a lot of people coming out of lockdown with some chonk and with fubar hair. And it’s fine. Since it’s happening to all of us, I say we just accept it and move on.

Earlier this week, we saw Kaia Gerber’s new blonde hair, which frankly looks kind of awful. It looked like a DIY dye job, and that she chose the wrong (brassy AF) shade. So it with Emily Ratajkowski too. Emily has been showing off her newly bleached hair on Instagram and in a masked grocery run. Much like Kaia… Emily does not have the coloring for blonde hair. Some women just need to accept their brunette status! It’s not a bad thing, being a brunette. It’s awesome, actually. So why are so many brunettes doing this to themselves?? I guess it’s just boredom, right? For a second, I actually considered dyeing my hair blue. I bought the (severely discounted) blue dye and everything. I still have the box. Hm.

Where Kaia’s blonde looked like it came from an at-home dye, Emily’s hair actually looks professionally done? Is she going back to her hair salon or something? Also: the black-and-white photos on IG really emphasize how the change in hair color can change a whole face. She went from looking like the poor man’s Kendall Jenner to looking really strung-out.

The big news here is that we have three pictures of Emily Ratajowski fully clothed. Or fully clothed in the parts of her that we can see.

    • Alice says:

      Her body. Her choice.

      • Otaku fairy says:

Always. And it’s not even true by the way- there are plenty of pictures of her fully clothed (which is different from modestly dressed) by modern, liberal, climate-appropriate standards. There are just also plenty of pictures of her naked, in bikinis, and in lingerie. Who cares?
The blonde hair doesn’t look good with her eyes and eyebrows though. There are some brown-eyed girls who manage to pull off blonde hair well, but she just isn’t one. She can only pull off brown or black hair.

  2. lucy2 says:

I don’t think the color is flattering to her.
Her face looks so different in that last photo.

    • Eliza_ says:

A lot of celebrities dramatically change their hair after face work. Honestly she looks so different but i can’t pinpoint it. Not just the hair color though.

  3. Lo says:

I think it’s legal even in CA and NY for salons to be open. I’m in NYC and while it sucks to wear a mask for 3+ hours and not get a blow out (due to the hairdryers sucking in particles and spreading them), it feels good to get my hair done and that my state/city has been so data driven. That said, she cannot be blonde. Like you said, she has beautiful olive skin I would kill for (pale gal here) but she’s meant to be brunette.

  4. Allz says:

Wait a minute. I think Kendall Jenner looks like the poor man’s Emrata. Kendall’s face is not her natural one, so she’s actually copying Emily. And also, Kendall is just complete trash so.

But yeah, this is not her color.

  5. Mina_Esq says:

She looks completely unrecognizable as a blonde. Interesting move for someone that’s barely hanging onto relevancy as is 🤷‍♀️

  6. Audrey says:

I think she also got her lips plumped. I prefer her as a brunette.

  7. julia says:

I’m not going to lie. I actually like the hair. The lips might be a bit much, but that’s her choice. Maybe they’ll settle? And I’m so sick of people commenting about how she shows too much skin, always wearing crop tops, yada yada. Yet when someone who is plus size and does the same thing, it’s celebrated. Let’s celebrate all women who are loving their bodies, and love showing them off.

    • Geeena says:

I like the blonde, too and all the comments on restricting color on skins undertones and coloring are just meh to me, like when people go off on how women with rounder face shapes and plus size women shouldn’t have pixie cuts. It’s hair ffs.

to your second point, Kate Upton answered really well. In response to a thinkpiece titled ‘Why Can’t Kate Upton keep her clothes on?’ and she said “Because I don’t want to!”

      • julia says:

        Glad I’m not alone ;)
I’m naturally a thin, athletic build. If i post pictures where I’m in a bikini, I’m “thirsty and fishing for compliments” but my best friend who has amazing curves and posts pictures of herself on the same beach, from the same day is “brave and beautiful”. So I found I was censoring what I posted so that I didn’t seem like I was looking for attention and compliments. But forget it, I do what I want now! Simply put, were all beautiful.

    • Joanna says:

I like it on her too. And I am not a fan of blonde personally

    • Otaku fairy says:

😄 Right? A person definitely needs to install some updates if just the the sight of other women in cropped tops= “Their bodies are awl they have 2 offer!” There’s a word for that reaction, and it’s definitely not boredom…

  8. Nicole r says:

Whenever I see this boring woman all I can remember about her is how often she has to tell everyone how smart, funny, and deep she is… She is a total narcissist.

  9. Myriam says:

The bottom instagram pic, I thought that was Khloe’s new face.

  10. SJR says:

I vote for her darker hair.
This lighter shade just makes her another Hollywood wannabe blonde.
IMO, I sure hope she is saving her money, don’t think she will have much more of a career in 3-5 years, AFAIK she is the Robin Thicke video girl and she models swimsuits..how long can that last IRL?

  11. BW says:

How does she have a concave Mons Venus? I didn’t think that was physically possible?

  12. Grant says:

Literally the only thing I know her from is her blink and you’ll miss it role in Gone Girl from half a decade ago. Is she still a thing?

  13. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Nope: she looks constructed by Mattel.

  14. Tchotchke says:

I don’t think she looks strung out, personally, but I do think that the shade her colorist gave her is…not great. It’s very, very yellow.

  15. emu says:

No. Looks trashy. Keep the beautiful brunette. But also, whatever.

  16. Cora says:

Love it. I like her. She’s cool. (to compensate all the mean girls above my post). Wink wink.

  17. enike says:

she looks like Nastassja Kinski in the white-black pictures

    I prefer her brunette

  18. Blueskies says:

I’m getting older Kate Moss vibes from her, not necessarily a bad thing. The blonde does age her, though.

  19. Anonymous says:

The blonde hair works on all these celebrities. Kylie Jenner, her, it seems to work best as a darker blond or honey blond.

  20. SpencerAuLait says:

I think it looks great but she could benefit from some purple shampoo too cool down those warm tones. I just went from platinum blonde to brunette and it’s the happiest I’ve been and best I’ve looked in years. Team brunette when it comes to my own head but she looks lovely with both shades.
