Simone Biles’ recent Vogue cover and interview was supposed to be timed for Tokyo Olympics, which have now been postponed for 2021. The Vogue piece was full of information about Simone’s training, her quarantine, her medals and awards, and her campaign to reform US Gymnastics. Buried in the story, Simone also confirmed that she had broken up with Stacey Ervin Jr. at the start of the lockdown, and she seemingly spent her lockdown alone (with dogs). Turns out, she did start dating someone new. Did this love blossom in quarantine?!?
Simone Biles has a new boyfriend! The 23-year-old Olympian made things Instagram official with football player Jonathan Owens on Sunday, posting two photos of the pair cozying up to one another on Instagram. With a big smile on her face, the Houston Texans safety, 25, stood behind Biles with his arms around her, while in the second photo he leaned in to kiss her neck.
“It’s just us,” Biles captioned the sweet snapshots, which pal Nastia Liukin commented on with a string of red hearts.
The previous day, Biles also shared a short video of Owens on her Instagram Story, captioning the clip with a series of affectionate emojis. Fans began to speculate about the pair’s relationship status last month after Biles, who had recently confirmed her split from ex Stacey Ervin Jr., made a post in honor of Owens’ birthday.
“Happy 25th birthday,” she wrote on her Instagram Story, alongside a photograph of Owens giving her a piggyback ride, according to The Shade Room. “Hope this year brings you everything you want & more.”
I want the world for Simone and I hope Jonathan is a really nice guy who treats her well. We tend to always think of Olympic gynasts as kids, but Simone is a 23-year-old young woman and it was clear from her Vogue piece that she’s been “adulting” hard over the past few years. My guess is that this relationship is probably pretty new and that it did blossom in “lockdown.” I’ve been saying this for a few months – we’ll definitely have a lot of breakups and divorces this year because of the pandemic, but we’ll also have some new couples who went from zero to sixty because of the lockdown too.
