Donald Trump wanted Ivanka Trump to be his running mate in 2016

Trump Hosts a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Event in the East Room

Sometimes, I read articles about the Trump family and I feel like rewatching Arrested Development. The Trumps are like the Bluths, only dumber and more mobbed up. The con artistry, the tax fraud, the “light treason,” and Ivanka Trump is honestly just Lindsey Bluth at this point. As we discussed, the New York Times published an exclusive report on all of Donald Trump’s tax shenanigans. Trump’s tax bill in 2016 and 2017 was $750. He’s still being audited by the IRS for a $72.9 million tax refund. He’s losing money on all of his golf properties. He’s got hundreds of millions in outstanding loans. He spent $70K on hairstyling and DEDUCTED it. But what about Ivanka? Ivanka received “consulting fees” to reduce the family’s tax bill.

The president’s oldest daughter, while working as an employee of the Trump Organization, appears to have received “consulting fees” that helped reduce the family’s tax bill, the Times said. Such a revelation might further tarnish the reputation of Ivanka, a senior White House adviser married to another, Jared Kushner, who often tries to distance herself from some of the biggest scandals of her father’s administration. She is widely believed to harbor political ambitions of her own after Trump leaves office.

The Times reported: “Trump’s private records show that his company once paid $747,622 in fees to an unnamed consultant for hotel projects in Hawaii and Vancouver, British Columbia. Ivanka Trump’s public disclosure forms – which she filed when joining the White House staff in 2017 – show that she had received an identical amount through a consulting company she co-owned.”

[From The Guardian]

Daddy paid her almost $750K as a “consultant” so daddy could take those fees as a deduction. Keep in mind, we still don’t even have the full grasp of Ivanka’s tax returns either – she’s been heavily profiting from her position as Daddy’s Little Helper at the White House and she’s been making “deals” all around the world. Meanwhile, did you know that Donald Trump was obsessed with making Ivanka his running mate?

As Donald Trump’s top campaign aides began a discussion in June 2016 about who the presumptive Republican presidential nominee should select as his running mate, the candidate piped up with an idea.

“I think it should be Ivanka. What about Ivanka as my VP?” Trump asked the assembled group, according to a new book by his former deputy campaign manager Rick Gates set to be published Oct. 13. Trump added: “She’s bright, she’s smart, she’s beautiful, and the people would love her!”

In Gates’s telling, Trump’s suggestion of naming to the ticket his then-34-year-old daughter — a fashion and real estate executive who had never held elected office — was no passing fancy. Instead, he brought up the idea repeatedly over the following weeks, trying to sell his campaign staff on the idea, insisting she would be embraced by the Republican base, Gates writes.

It was Ivanka Trump who finally ended the conversation, Gates writes, going to her father to tell him it wasn’t a good idea. Trump eventually came around and selected Pence, after the governor won him over by delivering a “vicious and extended monologue” about Bill and Hillary Clinton at a get-to-know-you breakfast later that summer, according to Gates’s account.

[From WaPo]

This story is galling and it reads as completely true. You know what struck me though? Um… Donald Trump was right that his “base” would have completely accepted Ivanka as VP. If he had gotten his way and made Ivanka his running mate, she would have fascistically baby-whispered through the VP debate and Republicans would have loved it. Trump still would have been “elected.” As we can see now – we saw it then too, in 2016, but even more now – his base of unhinged dumbasses literally buy everything he says. If he said Ivanka is the one, they would have been cool with it.

    Of course he did. SMDH.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

His obsession with her, sexual and otherwise, is beyond disgusting.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

ETA: If you’re watching “The Comey Report” on SHOtime, it is showing how Traitor and his family approached and WERE approached (esp by Russia) about 5-6 yrs. BEFORE he ran, with the express reason that he was an easy mark, easy to be compromised…their very own Manchurian candidate.

  2. Michelle says:

I hope she get “Hunter Bidened” by Democrats. She also uses her personal email and that got swept under rug..

    • Esmom says:

If she hasn’t been Hunter’d by now, she won’t be. Democrats have never had the advantage in the assymetrical war of propaganda. Not that this would be propaganda, all the shady sh^it Ivanka has done is real. But the right refuses to see it. Or, more accurately, they see it and give it a pass, just like everything else.

    • Veronica S. says:

Why waste their time? Everybody who isn’t voting for Trump already knows what trash they are. The people voting for him have a cult mindset. Everything he does is golden. Everything he does is acceptable. All they would do with a legal investigation is further their victim complex, the same one Lindsey Graham is using to justify his turn around (i.e. his Russian blackmail purchased vote).

This miscalculation of the Democratic party starts all the way back in the 90s. As the Republican party pulled harder right, they let themselves be pulled toward the middle. The modern moderate Democrat is a 90s Republican, something that is completely alienating to a younger generation that is increasingly progressive. They spent their time appealing to a stagnant Boomer/Gen X network that is now dying out and leaving the rest of us to clean up their mess. This is going to take decades to repair, if we even get that chance.

      • escondista says:

for real…Anything negative is fake news and some people attribute every success in their entire lives to Trump’s last 4 years. It’s bizarro.

      • alexc says:

It’s a mistake to think the only trump voters are members of his cult of morons. I personally know quite a few very well-off white people who voted for him and will again because TAXES. They are soulless a-holes who don’t even need the money at this point. They are actually worse than the cultists.

      • Sid says:

Veronica, I have long memories of what the DLC and their ilk did to the party in the 90s. Gingrinch (yes, GRINCH) and his cabal scared the living daylights out of them in ’94 when they were able to snatch Congress and key governorships (I’m still sad over Ann Richards). That was when I really started to notice the big push from the Democratic leadership to portray themselves as centrists. There are just so many things that have snowballed together to get us where we are now. SMH.

  3. Carol says:

    And again, nothing eill happen….

  4. Teresa says:

He wanted her to be his mate but this seemed more acceptable.

  5. Rise and Shine says:

Please do not defend Ivanka anyone. She has wanted this all along. Trump is a jerk, but she is far more than just a willing accomplice or complicit. And have you seen the tax returns being released? (YAY) Ivanka is the dirtiest of that whole dirty family klan. Look at that, and how Jared profitted for his 666 building from Qatar. And the list goes on. Then come talk to me about oh but Hunter Biden. Please. They can just it down and shut it on that one. And much is coming out…. hold on.

    • minx says:

I don’t think anyone here defends Ivanka.
And she looks like an alien.

      • HoofRat says:

Pez Dispenser. Seriously, I keep waiting for that bizarre little bobble-head to pop back and expel a chalky fruit-flavoured lozenge. Not a great analogy, though, because like her odious sire, she has never produced anything, only consumed.

      • Rise and Shine says:

Hi minx and hoofrat 🙂 lol and yes, I know you all here have too much sense to defend her, but trust me that is the way her narrative will play. I don’t even comment here that much because I know you all know the deal, and it why waste time preaching to the choir. But I think you are all wonderful and Kaiser rocks for bringing us these updates! Thank you to all here. LOVE. And hang on, more to come, Ivanka is shall we say, not nice 🙂

  6. Ariel says:

I just want to find a check list of: ways to know you/your family member is in a cult and doesn’t know it- and post that below every dumbass maga comment on twitter.
I mean, i have better things to do with my day, but, it is a cult.

  7. Lori says:

    Wtf with the goya can?

    • Lightpurple says:

A flagrant violation of the Hatch Act.

    • Scal says:

The CEO of goya did a MAGA event at the WH, and when he was rightly called out all the GOP hucksters started doing mini-promos for Goya. Trump did one behind the resolute desk which barf.

  8. Lightpurple says:

Nagini is out there stealing our tax dollars daily. In January and February alone, she made personal business trips and vacations to Switzerland, Germany, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and India, all of which were paid for by us through that WGDP, an old Bush I program that they shut down, then resurrected with a new name, claiming she “founded it. A large staff of federal employees travels with her, including a film crew that makes endless videos of her walking into rooms that are then broadcast across the social media accounts of the White House and multiple federal agencies. Mercifully for us her international travels have been curtailed by Covid19 this year. But she is still traveling nationally, a different state almost every day, all paid for by us, as she campaigns for daddy. And she supports every single one of his policies, and is probably the mastermind behind them. Kids in cages, the Muslim ban, shutting down pandemic preparedness in 2018, pulling out of the Iran deal, Nagini played a huge part. She is as bad as he is and probably worse. And she will NOT give up power willingly.

    • Chrissy says:

Don’t forget that tear-gassing peaceful protestors in Lafayette Park was also her brilliant idea! Lock her up!!!

      • Lightpurple says:

Yes, I meant to add that in too but got distracted. That whole debacle of the Bible waving and taking military action against law-abiding US citizens was her idea. Apparently, some of his actions concerning Syria and Niger were her ideas too.

  9. minx says:

    So creepy.

  10. atorontogal says:

I just can’t anymore with America, Trump, the family and American politics. It is seriously affecting my mental health. All I have at this time is America, you are F’D!

    • Crumpets and Crotchshots says:

I’m making plans to move to Montreal. I have had enough. I wish I could have my country back, but I doubt it will happen in my lifetime.

    • LittlePenguin says:

Yes! I told my husband, who loves politics, he needs to step away from the US disaster for a bit for mental health. We never thought we would see in our lifetime the US fall so very badly.

  11. Sid says:

I believe it. He wants to set her up for her own presidential run. This arrogant windbag would LOVE to be able to have his own political dynasty and to brag that HIS daughter was the first female president of the US.

    • Rise and Shine says:

She honestly believed, and I once heard her say, can’t wait til Dad installs me as the first female president of the United States. Never talked to her again after that. So glad the tax returns and more are coming out. It will show you who she really is, and no, she will never be the first female President!

      • VoominVava says:

        You “talked” to her?

      • Lightpurple says:

“installs.” That’s not how it works.

ETA At least, that’s not how it works in a democratic Republic. It does work that way in a dictatorship.

      • olliesmom says:

The word “installs” jumped out at me and terrifies me.

      • Rise and Shine says:

light and ollie, yep the word installed and her total confidence in that would be what would transpire, is what was the end for me. Chills. We are going to vote them out.

  12. lucy2 says:

I really hope she ends up in jail. For a long time.

  13. FancyPants says:

Ahhh “running mate” so that’s what he calls it…

  14. Kyla says:

I despise the entire family with the fire of 1,000,000 x infinity suns. But, I wish people would stop describing them as dumb. They’d didn’t just stumble ass backwards into the White House.

They are ignorant of history, basic geography and proper English. But they are also shrewd, calculating, and evil manipulators. They knew exactly what to say and what to do to pander to their base and rode a wave of ugly nationalism right into the White House. They’ve overcome every obvious obstacle that would have derailed any other candidate (bankruptcy, multiple affairs, dubious citizenship of a foreign born spouse, admissions of sexual harassment, and on and on).

Sure, they had help (interference) and lost the popular vote, but they won the presidency against predictions of a landslide loss. You can’t do this by being a dumb buffoon. They were smart enough to pick up on all the ugliness in America that was simmering and used it to rile up a strong base of support. They’ll probably do it again. It makes me shake with anger that’s where we are.

    • Esmom says:

Actually I think they’re all pretty dumb. They were just in the right place at the right time for people smarter than them to exploit them and they happily went right along with it.

    • Lemons says:

They’re dumb surrounded by smart people willing to grift, con and kill their way to the top.

White mediocrity combined with white supremacy is this. Conservatism.
I was reading a book that was a bit of a lightning bolt about conservatism that is the antithesis of progress. These people don’t want progress because they wouldn’t be able to keep up.

They are always taking us backwards.

  15. Beesknee says:

Nepotism at its best even in his selection as presidential mate! I look forward to Trump trying to squirm his way out of all this N.Y. Times bombshell—and his answers the presidential debate. Yet also revolted by Trump as he can’t feel shame, lies and blames someone else.

  16. Ashley says:

That hotel in Vancouver is already bankrupt. It was protested from day one.

  17. Lizzie says:

He was looking ahead to his best chance of a presidential pardon after he leaves office. He probably should have went with her for that reason but no doubt Pence would also pardon him.

    • Lemons says:

Pence is as neck deep in the corruption as Trump, so he’ll be pardoning unless Putin tells him not to. I could see Putin doing that. He doesn’t like Trump.

  18. emu says:

Also in the report, the projects in Turkey and elsewhere said there were no outside consultants in the project.
    Get ’em, IRS!

  19. kelsey says:

It makes it even more egregious that Cy Vance (Manhattan DA) let her and Don Jr. skate on felony charges back in 2012 after they donated to his re-election campaign. Yes he’s asking for Trump tax returns now but he could have prevented some of this rise if he had done his job in 2012.

  20. Digital Unicorn says:

She and The Boy are def setting themselves up to run regardless of the result in November. It will be interesting to see if Jr turns on her when he realises the extend of how much she has stabbed him and the rest of her siblings in the back dawns on them.

Jr can twirl for Daddy all he likes, it’s Ivanka who is going to get it all – given the lap dance she gave him on The Apprentice (witness by the crew) and how she lets him paw her in public, I think we can all imagine what she does to get his ‘love’.

Mark my words, she is much worse than her father it. Esp as she has been behind his more extreme decisions.

    • Christin says:

Junior is looking rough these days. He talks a big game, but she seems in it for the long haul/grift with her spouse.

      • Lizzie Bathory says:

If Don Jr doesn’t get serious help (which no one in the family will support), I really think he’ll be this generation’s Fred Jr. Ivanka would absolutely let her own brother destroy himself in order to keep her grift going. Just like daddy.

      • Christin says:

@Lizzie, it does seem like another Freddy Jr., doesn’t it?

      • Lizzie Bathory says:

@Christin I cannot stand Don Jr, but I also take no joy in seeing a person destroyed on the altar of family dysfunction. It’s awful.

    • holly hobby says:

Her aunt, the Judge, calls her the mini-Donald. She is as evil as that rotting pumpkin. If Jr has a brain, he’d leave the blowup doll and go into treatment.

      • Lizzie Bathory says:

I agree, but I think Kim G is also hitting the nose candy pretty hard, plus I think she enables him so she can exploit his weaknesses for her own gain. And Jr. is too impaired to get help for himself. He should absolutely have to pay for his crimes, but it’s hard to watch someone implode like this while everyone around him ignores or exploits it. Vampires, all of them.

  21. Callie says:

    Please don’t insult the Bluths.

  22. Valerie says:

    Family values, right? smh.

  23. kerwood says:

‘Running’ mate? The only thing more vile than Trump’s lust for his daughter is how she’s used it to get anything she’s ever wanted. That family is beyond sick.

  24. The Recluse says:

Noel Casler, who is on Twitter and worked on the Apprentice: he was Ivanka’s handler, has been saying for a long time that she is just as corrupt as her father and that she ABSOLUTELY wants to be President too. Take the threat she presents seriously.
