Donald Trump’s staff worries about his comorbidities, but he might go on camera

Donald Trump speaks to members of the media on the South Lawn of the White House

Donald Trump has the coronavirus. If anything, the fact that he only has it now makes me hopeful about the transmission of the virus currently, seven months into the pandemic. Trump spent the last seven months in a haze of denial and masklessness, basically licking toilets and encouraging people to breathe and spit on him. And he only got it NOW, after spending a curious amount of time with Hope Hicks. There are a lot of discussions happening in the White House right now, about whether Trump should address the nation today, whether his age and comorbidities will mean a severe case of the virus, and whether we should have a serious conversation about the 25th Amendment.

Maggie Haberman and the other NYT White House reporters have a lot of tea. Trump will be working from the residence for the next two weeks and no one will say if Mel and Don are experiencing symptoms. Staff are currently removing items from Trump’s schedule except that which can be done over the phone. The market is taking a huge hit this morning, and that’s all Trump really cares about – he might feel like he needs to go on camera with some kind of statement just to keep the Dow from plummeting. Also, keep in mind that all of the staffers now carrying out all of these tasks have all been in close proximity to Trump in the past week. They’re worried about themselves too. Here’s some interesting info about what Trump says and does in public versus how he is in private:

The symbolism of an infected American president could rattle allies, as well as governors and business owners trying to assess when and how to reopen or keep open shops, schools, parks, beaches, restaurants, factories and other workplaces. Eager to restore a semblance of normal life before the election, Mr. Trump has dismissed health concerns to demand that schools reopen, college football resume play and businesses return to full operation.

In his eighth decade of life, Mr. Trump belongs to the age category deemed most vulnerable to the coronavirus. Eight out of every 10 deaths attributed to it in the United States have been among those 65 and older. In private discussions, Mr. Trump has been fatalistic with associates when talking about whether he or others would get sick from the virus, describing it as essentially a roll of the dice. He has been resistant to permitting details of his health to be made public, raising questions about his overall condition.

But while Mr. Trump has been reported to have high cholesterol and tips the scale at 243 pounds, which is considered obese for his height, Dr. Conley, his physician, pronounced Mr. Trump in “very good health” last year after his last full medical checkup. And, unlike many of those who have succumbed to the virus, he will have the best medical care available.

Behind the scenes, though, the self-described germophobe was angry in the spring that his valet, who is among those who serve him food, had not been wearing a mask before testing positive, according to people in touch with him. Mr. Trump privately expressed irritation with people who got too close to him. According to the president, he began taking hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug, proactively around this time and later said it caused no adverse effects.

In the White House, advisers to the president acknowledged that the positive test would remind voters of how dismissive Mr. Trump had been about the virus, not only with his own neglect of safety but also in his overly rosy assessments about a pandemic that has killed more than 207,000 people in the United States. Mr. Trump’s recklessness, one adviser admitted, amounted to a political “disaster.”

“Trump is now in the position of becoming exhibit No. 1 for the failure of his leadership on coronavirus, and he runs the risk that his supporters will feel misled by his dismissiveness of the virus and the need for precautions,” said Geoff Garin, a Democratic pollster.

The president was already lagging in the polls in part because of his difficulties with older voters, a constituency that leans Republican but is also at the highest risk from the virus. In the early hours of Friday, some of Mr. Trump’s aides were discussing ways for him to be seen by the public later in the day, so that he could convey to them that he was still leading the country. One option was an address to the nation, a person briefed on the discussions said. Yet in private conversations, members of his staff were also candid that the president has comorbidities that could make him more susceptible to a severe bout of the virus.

[From The NY Times]

Yeah. All of this. I agree that Trump is a liar and he probably would have faked the coronavirus to get out of debating Biden again and all of that. But I just don’t think he would fake ALL of this. It sounds like the White House staff are freaking out and no one knows if they should put Trump on camera and no one knows how ill Trump could get. Whew. Comorbidities, boy, I don’t know.

    October “surprise”.

  2. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Great, now he’ll be a martyr and we’ll have to listen to a bunch of stupid saying ‘stupider’ things.

    • Bettyrose says:

      🔼 This.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

The Right don’t do “weak and sick.” The GOP voters abandoning him are doing it over Covid, this will just be another nail in that coffin. I expect a bigger swing of moderates away from Trump due to this announcement.

      • Bettyrose says:

Unless he emerges triumphant from quarantine in two weeks having wrestled the rona into submission.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

@Bettyrose much too late. Mail in voting is happening now. His campaign won’t have time to recover. Also do a Google search for the latest on Trump’s war chest money – he doesn’t have the funds to do much advertising, vs. Biden’s recent donation haul.

      • jenellesTiktok says:

He seemed off in the video of him walking to his copter to visit Walter Reed. The marine on guard salutes him and then he doesn’t remember to salute back until he’s already past the marine.

    • Gina says:

Right. Regardless of how severe a case he gets, he’ll tell his supporters “it was no big deal”

      • manda says:

which is why I’m surprised they actually revealed he tested positive

      • Sid says:

I don’t think they had much choice Manda. With the amount of time Hicks spends around Trump, once she tested positive they had to address it. And there’s no way he and Melania could have just quarantined away for two weeks without people asking why they wouldn’t just use a rapid test to know asap.

      • Arpeggi says:

Herman Cain was also saying it was no big deal… Until it was. You’d think they would have learned then

      • jenellesTiktok says:

Even as he visibly has even more trouble walking, propping himself up with a podium or speaking without losing his breath.
A lot of the survivors still suffer serious damage that may be lifelong.

    • julia says:

He will survive, and he’ll survive it better than anyone has ever survived it before. Because he is strong and only the strongest of the strong can survive and be survivors. He isn’t old and weak, old and weak people don’t survive this because the dead don’t survive. He’ll be the most alive survivor. If he even has it…

  3. B n A fn says:

I cannot forget this comment, someone on this board, I believe on Tuesday, said that a friend of hers had a premonition that one of the two men on stage was going to fall ill and not recover. This just stuck in my head, just saying.

Yesterday I commented that I believed 45 is a sick man by the way he walks, always dragging his right leg and the way he grabs on to the podium as if to hold himself up. Anyway, 45 will never tell the country the truth about his health. I’m wishing everyone the best who contracted COVID.

I HAVE HAD DEATH IN MY FAMILY FROM COVID. I cannot forgive 45 from hiding this virus 🦠 from us, thus causing hundred of thousands of people dead.

    • Darla says:

      I am sorry.

All of my empathy is with those who have lost loved ones from this virus, and those whose lives have been crushed by it in other ways.

I’m fresh out for any of the Trumps.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

I do not forgive babies in court, defending “themselves” and a lot of other things. Karma is sorting the trash out right now. And the timing is good – no more debates, no more campaigning, no more interviews, for the next 14 days, maybe longer. And we are 1 month from voting and early voting is now in progress.

    • Larelyn says:

I, too, have had death in my family from Covid, and I directly blame Trump.

My 75yo father is a survivor – he is obese and has heart disease, but has been active his entire life (mowing lawns, not riding golf carts like Trump). Now over two months after he first came down with it, he is still weak and relies on a walker for long distances. He was hospitalized for three weeks with oxygen, but thankfully no ventilator. My family that relied on ventilators did not make it.

Karma. I’m not trying to wish ill on him, but I can’t help but think how appropriate if he experiences first-hand what the rest of the country is going through. However, 2020 is not done yet. It has 3 more months to mess with us.

      • Christin says:

I am so sorry about your father’s struggle and the tragic losses you and others have experienced due to this terrible illness.

    • sa says:

@B n A fn and @Larelyn, I am so sorry for your losses and for your father’s continued struggle with the lingering affects of covid, @Larelyn. No family should have to go through that.

    • olliesmom` says:

That comment stayed with me too.

    • Bean says:

I suspect he is symptomatic. There is video of him walking back to the WH from Marine One after a fundraiser yesterday. He wasn’t feeling well. You can see it all in his body language. It took all his strength to get to across that WH lawn.

    • Nic919 says:

I am sorry to hear that you have experienced death in the family as a result of the negligence of this narcissistic monster. I am glad to hear Biden has tested negative.

  4. Bettyrose says:

IDK. I’m not convinced it isn’t a stunt.

    • Also Ali says:

      +1

    • Caroline says:

Same. I would not put it past him and his family to do this.

    • Desert Lizard says:

Agreed. It drives his debate performance out of the news cycle and will be dominant headlines for a while. This is to drive up sympathy for him. He’ll be cured due to Hydroxychloroquine and his superior genes. *massive eye roll*

    • Lee says:

Totally agree. He’s not bothered by the con of appearing weak, as proven by the fake bone spurs. This has so many upsides for him. His hydroxychloroquine investments will make a killing when he claims it cured him in two weeks. He changes the channel on the disastrous debate, the white supremacy, the tax fraud. Melanie’s Christmas comments. All of it. Plus he gets to avoid more debates, and sympathy fundraise. It’s strategy.

    • judith A reeder says:

Maybe hes trying to get some sympathy voting???

      • Yup, Me says:

I sincerely hope the numbers of people stupid enough to cast a sympathy vote for him in spite of everything that has been going on are negligible.

    • julia says:

He will survive, and he’ll survive it better than anyone has ever survived it before. Because he is strong and only the strongest of the strong can survive and be survivors. 5. StartupSpouse says:

I joked about this on another thread, but I genuinely think we are going to be looking at a Weekend at Bernie’s situation.

Trump cannot die before November 3. The GOP won’t allow it.

    • ClaireB says:

I think the GOP would be relieved if he passed, because then they could push Pence, who, on the surface, is a less divisive candidate. Trumpsters could proudly go and vote for Trump’s name without having the shame of voting for someone who has been showing his a$$ more and more, and Pence and the right-wingers could go back to destroying democracy quietly. I don’t see a good outcome to this.

      • sa says:

That’s my fear, that people who are fed up with Trump would gleefully vote for Pence. Even if he’s fine, I worry that some Republicans who were going to sit out this election or write in a non-realistic candidate may now feel free to vote for Trump, on the possibility that it will be Pence by inauguration day.

It probably goes without saying, but under any other circumstances, I would not be so cynical about someone testing positive for coronavirus. I do not wish it on anyone, even the Trumps, but that doesn’t stop me from fearing the consequences.

  6. bluemoonhorse says:

Be careful, for a longtime Maggie has supported Trump and his family repeatedly on Twitter. If her king falls she needs a back up plan.

IF Trump has this virus. This could be a fake out to smother the news cycle about his Taxes, Proud Boy endorsement, etc… He comes out 10 days later and says look this virus is nothing, don’t be afraid.

OTOH yes I want this to be true. I want him on a ventilator.

    • Bella DuPont says:

As ruthless as it is to say, I agree. The Republicans being temporarily decapitated by Trumps illness in the run up to the election may be the only way the Country side steps civil war. Fingers crossed he remains subdued for as long as it takes for the process to play out with some semblance of normalcy.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

The GOP put all their eggs in the Trump basket. Pence is too weak to carry the election. Almost all the news stories I’ve read about Trump voting defectors is because of how he is dealing with the Covid virus (not racism, sexual assault, kids in cages – that’s all okay but an invisible germ!!??).

Regardless if this is fake or true, Trump just put a big hole in the GOP battleship. Trump will be quarantined for 14 days. No debates. Gives him about 2.5 weeks to campaign – well that isn’t going to work, not with mail-in voting happening now.

Also Trump’s war chest for campaigning is at a dangerous low in terms of funds.

      • Thirtynine says:

I made this comment right after the debate, as the possible alternative scenario to a violent rejection of a massive election loss. It’s also been clear that his team are beginning to panic. I think he is really ill, and I don’t think his comorbidities are just age and obesity. It’s been obvious he’s been failing physically for a while, and that will not help him fight the virus. Trump would never opt out unless he was absolutely unable to go on. Remember how indignant he was when people suggested he hid in the bunker? It i s completely against his concept o f himself as a strong, powerful, manly man who doesn’t back away from a fight. I think he is really sick. The danger is really to Biden here. He has to be very very careful about how he plays this now. Sending hopes for recovery and not politicising the illness, and still keeping that pressure up in campaigning will be key. Might be a good time to do some vision casting about his policies and how our future could look together.

    • Nana says:

Unfortunately though, Trump on a ventilator means one less ventilator available for someone more deserving.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

Ventilators kill. If you get on one, most people don’t come off of them. I know because a friend with Hodgkins Disease died on one and the doctors admitted that it was the beginning of the end when she went on it.

If I had Covid the LAST thing I would want to do is go on a ventilator and I would make sure my last wishes were in place before I did.

        Just talking harsh reality.

  7. Dids says:

Your choice of photos always makes my day. 👌

  8. Edna says:

Yeah, the Orange 🤡 (aka worthless piece of 💩)has “Comorbidities” that put him in the high risk category. Tell that to the families of over 200,000 people who could possibly still be alive if Trump and his Administration had taken this pandemic seriously right from the start. My cousin in law had comorbidities and died from Covid.

Thoughts and prayers is all I got.

  9. Lindy says:

I’m also thinking this may be a stunt. It makes for a good October surprise, it introduces a huge variable into all the polling. He sees that he’s way behind and nothing he’s tried has gotten him back out in front of Biden. The debate not only appealed only to his base, but actually alienated even more white women voters…

Why not fake this? He saw how much sympathy Boris Johnson got…

    • Bryn says:

Trump is like a racist vampire who feeds off the hate from those nazi rallies. I dont think he would give those up for anything. I think it would be possible for him to use this as a reason to drop out if he thinks hes going to lose. The man hates to lose

      • Tursitops says:

… which is odd, because he and everyone in his family do it so often and so spectacularly well…

    • Susy says:

I feel like this is a stunt too. What better way to back out of the next two debates? And then he can also pretend how “fit” he is when he recovers easily? The fact that Melania is sick too raises eyebrows. I mean as if they actually spend enough time together for her to get sick too…

Obviously, if they really are sick, I will feel terrible for saying all of this.

      • Jess says:

I thought the same, but his cult followers are constantly going on and on about how covid is just a cold and we all need to get it so we can build immunity and move on, if he’s sick enough to cancel events that makes them wrong.

This makes me so nervous, so many variables. He could still get elected then die from covid in December and we’ll be stuck with Pence. Whatever happens I hope it happens quickly.

    • Gina says:

I say no, it’s not a stunt because he had to cancel rallies in swing States. He lives for those rallies.

      • Swack says:

His doctor this morning put out a statement that they both have Covid. Don’t think Trump realizes that he has to be quarantined for two weeks.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

Stunt or not, this won’t go down with his GOP voters. The ones that are leaving are doing so because of how he is dealing with Covid. This is just another nail in the coffin, cementing their fear that Trump is not doing the right thing to protect middle-aged, white rich guys from Covid.

I could see it being fake because Trump wants an excuse to cover his dog poop of a debate, Taxes, and all the other stuff coming out – but OTOH, it is the wrong move if he wants to win. And of course I want him to lose so fake or not, I’m ROFLMAO this morning.

  10. Kate M. says:

I’m waiting for his explanation/conspiracy theory on this…like the Deep State deliberately exposed him or Hope Hicks to it. That the Democrats know they’re losing so badly that they stooped to poisoning him with the “Chinese virus” because otherwise how could he have gotten it?

That was the first thing I thought of…how is he going to spin it so he doesn’t look like an unmanly loser? *eyeroll*

    • Juls says:

I’m praying hard that Biden doesn’t get it. He tested negative, today? So clearly Trump had it before Biden, if he gets it. But Dumpty will TOTALLY swear he got it from Biden if Biden gets a positive test in the next few days. Again, I’m praying SO HARD that Biden remains negative. He’s been through enough.

  11. Reddy says:

“Comorbities, boy. I don’t know” – is that a West Wing allusion?

    • DrSnark says:

Yaassss, I hope so. I rewatched all of WW this year because I wanted to pretend Martin Sheen was President.

    • Bettyrose says:

I haven’t watched West Wing since it first aired so I just YouTubed that line. I remember it’s significance now. LMFAO!

    • Chartreuse says:

Absolutely A WW allusion! 7 time series watcher here

    • C-Shell says:

😂😂😂 I love this, so much.

I also love that Trump is propped up in bed watching all the talk on every news channel about his co-morbidities, and how they are listed in detail (as much as we know, anyway) over and over again. Vain POS can’t like hearing again and again how he’s obese, among other things. WEAK!

      • Juls says:

CNN kept repeating MORBIDLY obese this morning, over and over. It was totally a dig at him. He must be seething with rage.

  12. Legally Black says:

Kaiser, if that last line was a reference to the Posse Comitatus episode of the West Wing, very smooth and I’m here for it! If it wasn’t, then the universe is just delightful and made my morning.

  13. Carol says:

If this was a stunt. America is in bigger trouble than before. You have the United States of America President faking sick; thats a entire different level of crazy.

    • Also Ali says:

We have been at next level crazy since the POTUS called a pandemic a hoax. Him faking it to prove the hoax that won’t go away is not a big deal would not be surprising at this point.

      • Desert Lizard says:

Exactly right because he has lost voters over his handling of COVID. What better way to show it’s nothing than to get it and be “cured.” He’s devious and I don’t believe they are ill.

  14. DrSnark says:

I don’t think it’s fake because he’s a germaphobe who thinks illness is a sign of weakness. He will hate being seen as a weakling who got sick (from his point of view) AND being wrong about the potential for getting it. The WH would never have admitted this if there wasn’t a leak. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a positive test prior to the debate. I hope Biden wasn’t infected.

    • heygingersnaps says:

If he truly is a germaphobe which I doubt he is, he reportedly doesn’t ever condoms when he does it with strippers. He would have been wearing a mask as a bare minimum and not holding super spreader rallies like he has been.

  15. Lulu says:

He is a superspreader. After finding out his close aid Hope Hicks was positive for covid while on the SAME plane together, he went to one of his resorts the next day for a FUNDRAISER and infected people there. He sounded ill on Sean Hannity IMO last night while he lied and said he didn’t know his status – Trump had a raspy throat, low energy, he just sounded sick and was at this point, aware of Hope’s positive test for at LEAST 24 hours. He knew he was positive at this point and just wasn’t ready to admit it so he lied to the American people. I also read that none of the reporters that were on the plane with Hope and Trump NOR Joe Biden who had been in contact earlier in the week, were notified of Hope, Trump and Melania’s positive tests. Also it is circulating that he was showing symptoms of exhaustion as early as Wedneday.

Donald Trump is an evil evil man. He has been infected with coronavirus and KNOWINGLY exposed innocent citizens on Thursday. Not to mention, there was no contact tracing done for Joe Biden or anyone -who all found out via a the leak in Bloomberg story

I believe they were planning on hiding this and Trump was going to continue campaigning, they don’t care who they infect. Also, lets not forget that as recent as Tuesday – Trump was SHAMING Joe Biden for wearing masks often. Shameful!

    • bluemoonhorse says:

Good news: he is now so bad they can’t hide it.

      • H says:

Am I a bad person person for saying good? I don’t want him to die as that would marytr him, but real sick sounds good about now. I had my own COVID test today. 🤞

  16. ClaireB says:

He’ll probably blame his debate debacle on having the virus, and say that he is even more impressive than he thought before because he gave that incredible performance while fighting off covid.

I honestly don’t know if he has it or not. What a low we’ve come to when we don’t know whether the president is lying about being sick because he and his administration have lied about everything else!

I can almost see his cronies panicking after the debate and convincing him that this could be a great plot line. Trump can get out of the next two debates and then emerge triumphant after two weeks, telling everyone that the virus is not so bad and people could fight it off easily if only they were as strong as Trump. He’s out of sight long enough to let the debate fade from people’s minds and then panders to his base who believe him when he says the virus is just a flu.

    • Larelyn says:

Trump doesn’t see Tuesday’s debate as a debacle; actually, he is very proud of his actions and thinks he won the debate. It’s a popular opinion around here that he wants to avoid the next debates, but I don’t see it. He really enjoyed shouting down Biden and getting his punches in. He’s a bully; he thrived on the atmosphere he created at that debate. In fact, his team is fighting the proposed mic-cut-off changes to the next debate because then he couldn’t perform in the way he thinks he excels.

      • Rosemary says:

Exactly. A narcissist will never perceive failure. He thinks he did great. I don’t believe he faked this. He needs the adulation and the money. His next best is virtual rallies, and it will be telling if he doesn’t do those.
Melania’s is dubious, maybe to keep appearances that she’s anywhere within 6 feet of him.
        Karma- it is what is.

      • Juls says:

Exactly Rosemary. The money. Follow the money! Dumpty’s campaign is broke and Biden is raking in the (dough)nations. He’s hoping for sympathy money.

  17. fluffy_bunny says:

Is it wrong to hope he gets a really bad case of covid? Would solve so many problems. Darwinism at it’s finest.

    • Robin says:

If it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right.

    • Lulu says:

      I don’t care, do you?

He’s an evil man and I have no sympathy for him, especially after he tried to hide his exposure/infection on Thursday and knowingly exposed people at a Fundraiser on Thursday while he had the virus.

Not to mention, he hasn’t even notified anyone he has been in contact with – such as Joe Biden or the reporters who were on AirForce 1 with them on Wednesday night when Hope tested positive ON THE plane. They found out via the leak in Bloomberg’s story. This is so irresponsible that I think it is criminally negligent to cover this up and knowingly put others at risk.

    • lucy2 says:

I hope he survives. That’s about as nice as I’m going to get, and it’s so he can see himself voted out and then face the music for all of his crimes, of which there are many.
People have suffered and died because of his inaction, selfishness, stupidity, and cruelty. He has made something terrible so very much worse.

Also, early this morning I saw somewhere that they reported he wasn’t feeling well, so it does sound like he has some symptoms.

  18. Marigold says:

I’m not convinced that it isn’t a stunt either. That is how much I don’t trust this president. This gets him out of the debates. He gets to look strong in the face of adversity. I just keep thinking if the guy in Contagion who faked having the virus so he could get rich off of forsythia.

Now if he really has it and really gets sick. That’s an different story.

  19. STRIPE says:

This may be a weird thing to pick at but there is no way he only weighs 240. Isn’t he like 6’4? Healthy BMI for 6’4 can be up to 220 or so. No way he’s only 20 lbs overweight.

    • Chartreuse says:

He’s not 6 3 he’s 6 foot 1 if you compare him to others like Obama and Justin Trudeau. And he’s much more like 300lb. Height /weight lie was originally to put him under the cat of obese when he clearly is

    • AMA1977 says:

He’s 275 easy. I don’t think he’s 6’4″ anymore (if he ever was…) My dad is just about his age and was 6’3″ my whole life, but he’s gradually lost 1-2″ of height in the last decade or so, which happens to most older people. My dad is WAY healthier than 45 too; daily exercise including weight training and a pretty healthy diet. I’d be surprised if 45 is over 6’1″ anymore, and again, that’s assuming he was ever 6’4″ (I don’t buy it.)

My husband is 6″ and right around 200 pounds and there is NO WAY this trash goblin (stole it from another thread this week and have been using it with abject glee!) is 4″ and only 40 pounds heavier. Just look how dumpy he looks in a suit, which is designed to make men look taller and thinner than they are.

      • PippiLongdivision says:

Yep. My dad is about the same height as this buffoon and, before loosing more than 100lb, had the same body-he was well over 300lb at the time. I know people carry weight differently, but . . . no.

    • Maggi says:

I came here to say the same thing – there is absolutely no way that he’s 243 pounds. At 6’4, he’s got closer to 350 pounds of flab under those baggy suits.

    • Eugh says:

He wears little kitten heels and is shorter than Justin Trudeau (6’2″) and is about the same height or arguably shorter than Obama (who is 6’1″)

    • Juls says:

my husband is 6’3″ and about 215. And he is svelt and trim and SEXY. There is no way Dumpty weighs under 280 and that is being generous. 300+ would be my guess.

    • Suz says:

I was going to say. At my heaviest, I was 200 and there is no way he was only 43 pounds heavier than me. And he’s not that much taller than I am.

  20. Christin says:

Either it is a hoax or incredibly careless.

Now the reports are that Joe’s team were not notified, despite potential exposure. I guess they had to learn it with the general public.

I am concerned about Joe on that debate stage with a yelling person next to him. Hopefully Joe’s family members were seated far away from the maskless ones.

The silver lining may be that the deniers may wake up. I live in a red area where too many people still refuse to wear masks and claim it’s like the flu (as if that is minor).

    • Lulu says:

I think they were hoping to keep his diagnosis a secret from the American people and thats why they did not notify Joe Biden or anyone and that he continued to campaign on Thursday. So so so evil to know you are infected with a deadly disease and do what Trump did..he only confessed on twitter because he was exposed by the Bloomberg article.

I also wonder how this will effect covid deniers/super Trumpers. Their king has the coronavirus – can they really claim it is a hoax?

      • Juls says:

Well today I overheard a Trumper say “Trump doesn’t have any symptoms! See, its not that bad!” And I just walked away. Dumpty could be on his deathbed from this virus and they will find a way to spin it somehow.

    • Lightpurple says:

The press who flew on the plane with Hope Hicks AFTER she was diagnosed were not notified and went home to their families.

      • Juls says:

There are no words in the English language, or any language for that matter, that are strong enough to express my rage at this.

  21. Watson says:

    It is what it is.

  22. Leah says:

If it’s true and not some set up (which it probably is) Biden needs to stay well and away from him and his enablers because he is in the vulnerable category as well. Also Kamala should take heed because she has to debate that cardboard cut out Pence, no shaking hands, just take your places at a safe distance and go for it.

The next debate is on the 15th, which is past the quarantine time. I am expecting him to take the stage and say “look at me, Sandra dee, the virus didn’t get me”. Hopefully Biden will take the moment to bring up Trump’s record on the virus (everything from the “hoax” to “it is what it is”) and strip away at Trump’s clown show.

    • Lulu says:

Honestly, I think Trump is a goner. He is so unhealthy. I really have a feeling he is going to get VERY ill.

      • Leah says:

After living through 3.5 years of his lies he’s going to have to get the virus to write him a sick note before I believe him.

    • Lightpurple says:

My sister is a theater usher and is in a union that includes all elements of event venues (lighting, sound, etc.). The unions are demanding the debates be cancelled out of concern for safety of their members. Their membership was exposed at the debate Tuesday night and the Trump crew refused to comply with distancing and mask rules even after being asked to do so repeatedly. In fact, they mocked and ridiculed the venue staff who asked them to comply.

  23. Coco says:

I just hope this doesn’t deter voters who think that either he will be incapacitated for a second term by the virus, or that Republicans will not be voting for Trump because it’s pointless. Keep up the votes for Biden!

  24. Rapunzel says:

If it’s a stunt, it’s a stupid one. This only makes Trump look terrible for not taking proper precautions, and not reporting things properly (they hid that Hicks was sick). And it turns Trump into a joke for getting the disease he didn’t take seriously.

Plus, Trump would never cancel rallies and force himself away from golf for two weeks.

    I’m 99% certain it’s legit.

  25. Jack says:

I think he is sick, but not necessarily from Covid. I think his team convinced him either that he has it or that he should fake it. This allows his team to manage his ever failing faculties, whatever he may have. They convinced Trump that he could prove to everyone that it isn’t a big deal by faking it and how healthy and strong he is to come out of it.

He can’t die before election day. If Pence is on the ballot, the republicans who are voting against Trump in the general will think it’s ok to vote for Pence.

  26. Faithmobile says:

The logic of him faking doesn’t play out. This is bad news personally and politically. It’s over for Trump in many ways. The Walter Reed visit earlier this year is a cover up, and will reveal underlying health conditions that will make recovery from Covid difficult. Trump uses “WE” when he wants others to shoulder his burdens, his tweet last night indicates he thinks this is America’s problem not his.

  27. Lightpurple says:

Latest reports are that he has “mild symptoms.” From what I understand Weeks Two and Three are when hospitalization tends to occur. The White House does have a hospital unit in the basement.

    • CrazyHeCallsMe says:

The disparity in health care treatment should become a major issue right now. Trump gets the best of care, while the rest of us have to deal with a broken health care system. Over 200,000 dead, thousands suffering long term effects because this idiot didn’t do his job. And the GOP is still trying to take health care away from us.

  28. Liz version 700 says:

The car picture. Dear God the picture of him in that car window. He probably won’t wear a mask and will still expect the aids to steam his pants. I would be nervous too.

  29. Eugh says:

I think this is the real deal. Remember, Trump is really into eugenics – illness, “exercising depletes your life battery”, “best genes” whatever. They would never admit this for sympathy or distraction.

There’s a lot of people who think getting sick (in general) is weakness and I’m positive he’s one of them.

  30. Lissdogmom02 says:

He’s in serious trouble, good healthcare or not, this is not a good thing to catch for someone of his age & girth. I can’t stand him but wish this on no one. I read chart notes all day for a living & can tell you he’s in for a very bad ride.

  31. fluffy_bunny says:

I’m very surprised Melania tested positive. They give off the vibe that they don’t spend any time together.

  32. Valerie says:

It would be kind of funny if the left started acting like the right and insisting that what they saw was not real, but a deepfake or a clone.

My prediction is that, if this is real and he actually does have it, he will just squeak by and go on to have lingering health problems that will compound his existing ones. Then he has to live with the consequences of his actions. The Bidens and Melania will be fine.

  33. Jay says:

My husband and I were debating whether or not Republicans would be better off if they could guarantee a quiet Trump for two weeks, but personally I think that ship has sailed, and those that have already lashed themselves to the bow of Trump’s sinking ship will hopefully go down with him like the miserable cowards they are. If there’s one thing dictators can’t afford, it’s weakness.

It’s also not lost on me that some of those infected attended the maskless Amy Coney Barrett rally at the White house, including Mike Lee on judiciary. Wouldn’t it be wild if Covid were to stop the nomination? Karma, I’m begging you.
