Did Duchess Meghan deliberately court controversy to get more fame & attention?

Royal visit to Reprezent FM

We’ve talked so much in recent months and weeks about Finding Freedom and Robert Lacey’s Battle of Brothers. I believe that those are the two books which will probably be seen as the definitive “takes” on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s exit from the royal family, and all of the dramas leading up to it. While I criticized Lacey for relying too heavily on narratives created by the British tabloids and sugary biographers like Katie Nicholl, I was surprised to see that Lacey came to the same basic conclusion as Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand: Harry and Meghan were treated unfairly. They were slimed and smeared by the palace. The establishment bristled as soon as Meghan arrived. And the undercurrent of all the stories: Prince William is a rage monster and he spent years terrorizing his brother.

I bring all of this up because in the wake of those two books, everyone is ignoring the hatchet job from Lady Colin Campbell. She tried to ramp up the crazy months ago, only to watch as her bullsh-t was largely ignored. She’s still beating this dead horse though – she swears up and down that Meghan only married Harry because Meghan was interested in being famous. SCANDAL!

Meghan Markle was deliberately sparking controversy — even before Megxit — as part of a concerted PR plan to “make her into the most famous person on earth,” according to a royal biographer. Lady Colin Campbell — who previously wrote about Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana — said she only focused attention on the couple because she learned Markle was “getting up to all sorts of things in America that she was strictly forbidden from doing as a royal.”

“Mostly Meghan, but with Harry’s connivance,” the 71-year-old biographer told Graham Norton on his BBC radio show, accusing the Duchess of Sussex of meddling in commercial enterprises as well as politics. “And also instructing her PR people that they were to make her into the most famous person on earth,” Lady Campbell insisted of Markle’s apparent strategy last year.

The long-time royal watcher said it was “a very deliberate policy. And it has to involve a tremendous amount of controversy — otherwise you’re just not that famous,” she added.

But Lady Campbell conceded that she herself is “absolutely” feeding into that plan by penning her book, “Meghan and Harry: The Real Story.”

“I think it’s history in the making, and I don’t care if she ends up being the most famous person on earth or not,” she told Norton on the BBC podcast posted Saturday. “I [just] care that there is an interesting story to be told.” The biographer also claimed that once she started writing her book the Sussexes tried to “influence the narrative through mutual friends.”

“Harry, on Meghan’s behalf, got a great friend of his to sell me a load of rubbish about Meghan and her relationship with her father,” she told Norton. “I completely erupted because I knew it was completely untrue.”

[From Page Six]

I absolutely, 100% do not believe that Meghan was deliberately courting controversy at any time. I think she – much like Diana – was thrown into the deep end and told to sink or swim. When Meghan began doing the work of fitting in and showing up, that’s when she started to terrify the establishment and they began turning her every move into a scandal. The poor woman couldn’t even touch her bump without twenty blaring headlines accusing her of breaking protocol and being attention-seeking. They had to turn Meghan’s every move into a controversy because she sold papers too – the narrative of “Duchess Difficult Breaks Protocol” was cheap, easy and popular with readers.

Now, that being said, Meghan was an actress and a celebrity and she understood that world. It’s not that her every move was designed to get attention, it’s that she was unbothered and even comfortable when she became more famous. That too is “unroyal.” You’re not supposed to enjoy it! That was one of the biggest ways she didn’t “fit in” – she didn’t see any part of the attention or fame as a chore, or a burden to be borne.

Forster suffered serious injuries whilst serving with the Parachute Regiment in Afghanistan. With Flying for Freedom Nathan discovered a passion and aptitude for flying and in only five years, he has gone from having no experience of flying, to flying 737’s for Thomas Cook.

Ah, I’m taking this with a grain of salt as it’s from “lady” campbell.

  2. cc says:

When she does something ‘controversial’ call me.

    • Myra says:

I’m still waiting, to this day, for people to explain what horrible thing she has done to deserve this level of scorn. This is coming from someone who calls herself by a name that isn’t hers.

      • Otaku fairy says:

Same. About half of their so-called valid criticisms of her are petty things that should just not be a big deal in the 21st century (baby bump, revealing first pregnancy at a family wedding). Then most of the other half of it is a defensive reaction to the fact that the way she’s treated gets criticism, and because she stands up for herself.

      • Mads says:

They can’t explain because it will expose their prejudice, I got into a Twitter exchange with a Telegraph (UK paper) writer who called Meghan “smug” in reference to the video encouraging women to vote. I asked her why she couldn’t just see the message and take her dislike of Meghan out of it and she replied that all she could see was the “smugness dripping from every word”. These people are deranged in their anger – and racism with many others – that an American woman of colour got to marry the WASP prince.

      • Tiffany says:

She told to to suck it, left and took Harry and Archie with her.

They call it controversy, I call it common sense.

  3. HeatherC says:

So says the woman who desperately clings to a minor title she had legitimately (through her then husband) for 14 months over 40 years ago.

I’m still laughing at this, and her.

    • Nic919 says:

Exactly this. Her literal name is taken to acquire more fame and seeing as she’s divorced from this man and has been for decades, it’s pretty pathetic that she would dare criticize any other woman for being a famewhore.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

Wouldn’t it be something if just one of these interviewers would turn to someone like her and say something like that. Like, “wouldn’t that be true of you who has been utilizing a title gained long ago from someone you were only married to for a moment.” I guess they have to promise to not embarrass their interviewee while said interviewees are attempting to embarrass and belittle others.

  4. Amy Bee says:

Yeah, whatever Lady Colin. She needs a new narrative for Meghan because this one is stale.

  5. Bettyrose says:

Says the woman still using the title of a man she was barely married to decades ago.

  6. Becks1 says:

I do think BayTampaBay wrote this book and found it interesting, but I think it literally just sounds like LCC is making things up out of her ass.

    • Becks1 says:

ETA – I clearly meant that she read this book, lol. I don’t think LCC is on here masquerading as Bay haha.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Lady Colin Campbell is not “making things up” in the book. She is giving her Toff POV and running detailed commentary on events involving the Sussexes. It is clear she has some sort of personal ax to grind with Meghan.

I am not LCL! LOL! However, I would love to have Lady Colin Campbell’s country house.

      • SomeChick says:

LCC on here would be hilarious! I hope she joins!
Unless she’s already here as one of the Cambitches, haha.
        How could one tell?

  7. Wiglet Watcher says:

Kate reveled in the spotlight. Many of her original work events were galas and red carpets. And she courted the press and tabs for years in every obvious manner. So…
Now If Megan courted controversy then ignore her. She’s never directly engaged anyone in that context while in the BRF or post. So, this is a poor excuse to keep badgering her, a private citizen

  8. Ariel says:

I didn’t even read the crazy racist person’s insert.

But your conclusion- i think is 100% spot on, every step of the way.
    Well put.

  9. tee says:

If Meghan were as desperate for fame as they claim, she would have been a lot more shameless and scandalous during her acting days. I like the interpretation that they resented how well she took the newfound fame. She was really so well prepared fo leverage and maximize her brand new platform, and hardly needed their outdated help to do so. Also, she exudes Leo confidence. That’s what I like so much about her.

    • equality says:

Exactly. Instead of spending her time trying to date high profile Hollywood types, she spent her free time on charity and developing her own brand with her blog, clothes designs, and writing.

    • 809Matriarch says:

And sadly, this was the part that thrilled Harry! He had probably seen her speeches on line and knew this woman he loved was not only the perfect soul mate for him, but was brilliantly qualified for the work they could and wanted to do together. The pride he had in his fiance during their engagement interview was palpable. What a shame, the very things he delighted in rankled lesser talented, mean spirited people in the royal family.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

This is true. You could see that Harry was proud of who Meghan is and her potential in that interview. It makes me sad when you consider how excited they both were about the prospect of using their platform to be of use to the UK and the CW. Harry must really have thought that his family would support them and have their backs, so he was blindsided too by all that went down. Sometimes we forget the betrayal Harry must feel when he considers how his family treated him, his wife and their child.

  10. Merricat says:

Lady Colin Campbell, still struggling for relevance.

  11. tolly says:

This is the dumbest conspiracy theory. So her plan the whole time was to marry a prince and then steal him away to Hollywood to advance her career? This would only make sense to Lady Colin, who has been clinging to her ex-husband’s title for so long that no one remembers her first name (it’s Georgia, apparently).

    • Osty says:

Exactly, if that was her plan then it would have been easier to marry a much richer , handsome, famous Hollywood man without the added nonsense of troll on the media and internet insulting her . She could have married an actor and can sue , clap back at all idoits who dare to bully her .

  12. Harla says:

I believe that Meghan wants to use whatever “fame and attention “ she has to shine a light on the causes she’s passionate about. Not a thing wrong with that imho, more power to her!

  13. Amy Too says:

I know FebruaryPisces does Tarot, but so do I and last weekend and I did a Harry and Meghan reading. Meghan is crowned by the lovers, she is in a hot, once in a lifetime sort of relationship. She had a reversed 10 of cups in her past: her intended happily ever after, especially regarding family, didn’t work out as she hoped. The BRF and her family of origin (her dad) rejected her. She’s also definitely feeling the death by a thousand cuts on the media (10 of swords) and she feels trapped (8 of swords). She’s always going to feel a little trapped, likely because of the newfound insane amount of popularity. Not trapped in her marriage, but trapped by her forever association with the British RF and the media. She is not “courting controversy” and trying to make herself the most famous woman in the world.

Harry, ends up with the Sun as his future: which is funny because he’s in sunny California. The sun is like “happily ever after,” everything is great, wonderful things are coming. He gets everything he wanted and has a bright future. I think they will stay together but he went from being so connected and enmeshed with the RF that stepping back and getting freedom (even if he’s always associated with them) is the best feeling. She went from being her own person who was famous and working but not tabloid fodder to being associated with that family forever. Even though she’s left it now, she’s always going to feel a bit trapped by the media attention because she didn’t have it before. It all depends on where you came from originally, I guess. He went from only knowing that family and thinking that was his forever future and now he’s left it and feels more free, she went from being free, having a totally open future, then bound by the family, and now even though she’s left it, it will always be there.

  14. Valiantly Varnished says:

Meghan is a Leo. They are natural spotlight stealers. They don’t have to work at it. And they are COMFORTABLE being in the spotlight. And that’s what the BRF didn’t like. That not only could she handle it but she thrived in it and people loved her.

    • LornM says:

“They are natural spotlight stealers”….and people wonder why this didn’t work out

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

Some people shine brighter naturally. And there’s nothing you can do to steal their shine. See: Princess Diana.

      • Becks1 says:

Agreed @VV. Its not an intentional thing with some people. If Meghan and Kate walked up a red carpet at the same time, attention would still turn to Meghan just because she has IT, and Kate does not. She will always pull focus from Kate. Harry pulls focus from William, he’s much more interesting and energetic and again, has IT. It’s not a matter of seeking the spotlight. The spotlight finds them. and yes, I do think Meghan enjoys the spotlight, or at least is comfortable in it, but that’s not a bad thing.

    • mellie says:

Not to mention she was better at public speaking, better at picking out her own ensembles, wanted to ‘give back’, wanted to work and actually cared about charity instead of being made to care about charity…. Once she challenged ole home grown Kate, it was over for Meghan and that really stinks because there was room for both ladies, even though one was far superior at that ‘job’ of being ‘royal’.

    • Sooey says:

Do people truly believe in the utter nonsense of astrology?

  15. Rebecca says:

She really expects us to believe that she has “mutual friends” in common with Harry.

    Give me a break.

Also, it’s so convenient that she suddenly remembers that Harry “tried to intervene” in her book. Something she never mentioned until this particular interview with Graham Norton.

    • equality says:

Exactly what I was thinking. I doubt anybody who wants to be close in royal circles would associate with her considering what she has written in the past. How would she be able to judge any information anyway since she has never met Harry or Meghan and I doubt she has spoken to Thomas (although who knows with him if offered enough money.).

    • BayTampaBay says:

Lady Colin Campbell talks in detail about the “intervention” of the friend in the book but does not name “the friend”.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

She said that in the hopes of eliciting a response. Hopefully H/M will just ignore her and keep it moving so she doesn’t gain any relevance from them.

    • A says:

She doesn’t, lmao. She literally knows people, who know people, who know people. The days in which LCC was the center of the circuit within the aristocracy are long gone–they did exist at one point, and I do think she had a lot of insight and awareness into what that segment of society was thinking and gossiping about, but with time, she’s moved far away from that and doesn’t have the same sorts of connections anymore.

Her books are essentially long regurgitations of society gossip that you’d otherwise hear when you go out to lunch with these people, or at weekend dinners and shoots at their various country piles, etc.

  16. Vanessa says:

Meghan made being A Royal look easy she blow the other mediocre ones out the water that the problem the royal reporters have spent decades creating a narrative about Harry . Harry was the third wheel the jokers the Royal Family and press never thought Harry would find a unicorn someone just as charismatic talented and caring to married. Meghan plus Harry equals star power so the tabloids and royal do what they do best tried to destroy Meghan making everything she does into a scandal . For this author to suggest that Meghan wanted to be bullied and dehumanizing for three years straight shows how unhinged some of this reporters have truly become their blaming their racist hateful bullying onto the victim. Because she choose to married Harry so she deserves the vile abuse they continually to do to her .

  17. Mignionette says:

    This nutcase is batshit cray.

If you want to see how thoroughly vile and evil Lady C is just amble along to her YouTube Channel.

She is a cesspit of hate and actively allows racist comments on her channel. She is also known for salacious gossip, mis-information and outright bile.

This woman actually defended Andy’s actions by saying the victims encouraged their grooming and rape.

  18. Merricat says:

Meghan’s crime is being fabulous amongst a family of dullards.

  19. ABritGuest says:

Yeah was interested in what BTB thought of this book but Lady CC has said some pretty bigoted things about Meghan so don’t really trust her take. Knowing the nasty things she’s said in the press before her book I doubt Harry or meghans friends have tried interceding. Lady CC is well into troll territory discussing their theories that Doria has a criminal record etc. I’m disappointed Graham Norton entertained her.

This thing about getting involved in politics& commercial activities- what is her proof? Is it the tabloids having a meltdown over pursuing trademarks like all the other royals? If Meghan has more commercial interests then the Queen& Prince Charles or has done political meddling like them would love to see it.

Far easier ways for LA born Meghan to have gained fame then marrying a Prince& with far less stress. growing up near Hollywood & being in the industry I’m sure she would know that. you’d think she would have tried a showmance or something. If fame was purely what she was after with Harry once in England you’d think Meghan would have used her sorcery (seeing as Lady CC claims Harry is enthralled by Meghan) to overcome Harry’s reservation towards the press and would have given them the access they wanted. She would have curried press favour and done the hospital photoshoot etc. Plus would have stayed in KP rather than the Cotswold& then Windsor& would have been seen out in London with George & Amal & the Beckhams.

most of the things that have been ‘controversial’ with Meghan have been things that other royals have done without any note- eg the Queen implored Welsh citizens to vote. The press have just chosen to have a crazy reaction to everything she did. Lady CC called Meghan vulgar for editing Vogue& recently compared her to Hitler! Meghan just closing her car door is still one of the most viewed stories on the BBC news website. She couldn’t control that.

    • BayTampaBay says:

@ABritGuest – Bought the book. Read the book. Learned some new things. Some old false gossip is thoroughly dismissed and put to rest as being 100% false. Some new gossip is introduced. The book very well explains how the titled aristocracy and landed gentry, aka the Toffs, operate. It gives an excellent view inside the Class System of the UK.

However, it is clear, in the way the book is written, that Georgia “Georgie” Arianna Ziadie, aka Lady Colin Campbell, has an ax to grind with Meghan and it is a personal ax. What really happened between those two is not in the book and the book gives no clues.

      • MsIam says:

He axe BTB is that Meghan got to be a part of the world that Colin Campbell is on the far, far periphery of. And that Meghan walked away from it with her head held high and is now richer than ever. Oh, and she is black, too. Can’t forget that.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@MsIam – I agree with your take on LCL except the racial part. IMPO, based on reading the book, race did not really matter to Lady Colin but that Meghan was American from “Hollywood” did.

      • Ainsley7 says:

LCC’s problem with Meghan is unlikely to be about something that happened between them. I doubt they’ve ever had any real contact. It’s most likely because she believes Meghan is a narcissist. LCC’s Mother was emotionally abusive to her and has said she was a narcissist. It’s not clear if her mother was ever officially diagnosed, but that doesn’t really matter. LCC is likely projecting her mother onto Meghan.

      • A says:

@Ainsley7, it was always interesting to me that LCC wrote a book on her mother having NPD. To me, it doesn’t seem as if the apple has fallen far from the tree. I don’t think LCC has NPD, but as I understand it, narcissism falls on a spectrum, and I think she herself demonstrates a lot of the symptoms in her behaviour.

At any rate, I don’t think she’s projecting her mother onto Meghan–I think she’s projecting herself, in particular, her own motivations, onto Meghan, just the same as anyone else who doesn’t like her. LCC thinks, because she herself is a money grubbing, social climbing, clout chasing, fame whoring grifter, that Meghan must be too. And if anything, Meghan must be *worse*, because she’s from *Hollywood*, while LCC is from old money landed gentry, so anything she herself does is above reproach (it’s only tacky when the peasants do it).

  20. Jessica says:

Her book isn’t getting anywhere near the traction of Finding Freedom and Battle of Brothers, because she’s an untrustworthy hack and everyone knows it. She sounds completely unhinged. No one in the know spoke to her. Her sources are probably a) her own imagination, b) her bigotry, and c) other thirsty hangers-on with minor titles and weak tea, much like herself.

    • Edna says:

I think all the RRs are jealous of how well Finding Freedom sold globally and are just dying to cash in the same way with their books. Problem is no one wants to read hate filled hatchet jobs that regurgitate tabloid nonsense. FF sold so well because it did try to paint a more human and balanced picture of H&M.

    • A says:

She’s also not bringing anything new to the table in terms of material. Her point of view is exclusively the aristocratic one, and the fact is, we’ve already gotten a good idea of what that view is from the tabloids themselves. What more can she possibly have to say on the subject?

  21. TeamMeg says:

I call BS, Lady CC!!! What did Meghan really want when she married Prince Harry? At the least, she wanted to be accepted and respected. Being liked would have been nice. Appreciated, even better. Instead, she got none of the above. Meghan hasn’t “courted controversy” — GMAFB. She’s just tried to do good in the world. And is. Far away from the toxic BRF. 💙

  22. aquarius64 says:

Campbell’s book must be sinking like a stone.

  23. Miranda says:

The royals are so out of touch. With Meghan, they have a family member who is warm and engaging, who seems to genuinely enjoy meeting people and talking with them (and really, isn’t that basically the job description?). She’s very Diana-esque in that sense, and as with Diana, the royal family clings to their sterile, formal attitudes, and wastes her best qualities.

I don’t think she’s so much courting attention, she just acknowledges that attention comes with the territory when you marry into the most famous royal family in the world, and tries to use that as a platform to promote such radical opinions as, “hey, don’t be a racist asshole”.

  24. Paperclip says:

    LCC is an ass. Ugh…

  25. What’s eating you says:

I really want to know when Meghan courted attention because she was hardly ever papped and we never say her unless it was for an royal engagement. We barely saw her for most of 2019! Like me know when she’s doing pap strolls.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

I always wondered if she was able to get out and about during her time as a working royal, or if she was mainly stuck on palace grounds and in palace circles. If the latter that must have been stifling and she must feel a sense of immense freedom at present, Harry also.

  26. MissMarierose says:

I’m disappointed in Graham Norton for having this crazy lady on his show.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Graham has to do what Graham has to do to get ratings.

    • lanne says:

That’s why I side-eye the legit British media. They completely enable and support the tabloid media in the way that mainstream media in the US does not. ABC would not have a reporter from the Enquirer on a show to give a story (Fox would, but Fox is the Republican Ministry of Propaganda, not a news source). The mainstream media in the UK legitimizes hacks like these and gives them relevance.

  27. L4frimaire says:

Based on the interviews of her I’ve seen, Lady C is an interesting smart person (not book/ emotionally smart but player smart), but she’s also a jealous hater, gossiper, greedy, and ignorant on a lot of things. This woman was an outsider, was intersex, from Jamaica of Lebanese descent, using a title from a marriage that lasted all of five minutes. She’s a hustler but has the gall to treat Meghan like this grasping interloper out to snatch the monarchy. Major eye roll. I don’t doubt for one minute that Meghan is media savvy, that being part of her job as an actress. But even that couldn’t protect her from the tabloid hate machine and palace smears in Britain. However, those contacts and savvy gave her and Harry a lifeline out of the BRF and way to earn a living. That story about her dad, where Campbell basically says she doesn’t need to know other facts or hear another point of view sums up her whole approach. She wanted to write a smear and a hit job, not a legitimate book. She knows a lot of media hacks but sounds like didn’t want to spill any real tea. This is why her book failed. Even if she hates Meghan, is critical, the fact that she can’t provide insight or motivations into the world Meghan entered and why they felt so threatened, other than to say she wants to be famous or president of USA and making up sinister motivations shows she is not the right person for this type of writing. She has no sources or doesn’t want to write the truth. She wouldn’t risk her wobbly position for a really good book and really good behind the scenes knowledge. So calling BS. Maybe someone who read the actual book can give more insight.

    • BayTampaBay says:

      “intersex,”

This is a very interesting point with regards to Lady Colin Campbell. I would not wish what she went through on my worst enemy except maybe Trump or McConnell. This “intersex” story is detailed on her Wikipedia page.

      • L4frimaire says:

I feel that her personal story is very interesting so just disgusted with her lack of empathy and intolerance for others, especially her snobbishness, how she stereotypes others and how she leans in so hard for aristocracy and hard class lines. Remember her caping for Andrew and described Epstein’s victims so dismissively as “ prostitutes”. She’s such an a-hole, and didn’t have to be that way.

      • A says:

She’s not intersex. From her own description, she was born as a woman, albeit one with a genital malformation that prompted doctors to recommend that her parents raise her as a boy. She states herself that she is a woman, considers herself as a woman, and is not intersex.

@L4frimaire, she’s struggled with a lot in her life, but that doesn’t ever automatically mean that a person is born with an inherent sense of empathy towards anyone else. Two opposite things can be true at the same time. She is someone who suffered a great deal through her life, and she is someone who lacks empathy, tolerance, and holds fast to the institutions that enable her privilege, even though those institutions are the ones that ultimately inflicted so much pain on her.

  28. VIV says:

Yes, because no one has ever joined the Monarchy for personal or familial gain. It is an institution built on hundreds of years of loving marriages – never for political alliance, financial opportunities, or moving your middle class family into the aristocracy! Not that I believe this, but even if true she wouldn’t be close to the first. Silly that it would be so offensive.

  29. Jaded says:

Lady Colin Campbell was born and raised in Jamaica and her family was rich and prominent in white Jamaican society. Her hatred of Meghan is entirely race-based and the fact that some half-black American parvenu tainted the bloodlines of the royal family drives her nuts. That’s all she can see – she willfully ignores the much-needed grace, discretion, hard work and charisma Meghan brought to the family in favour of tactless race-baiting.

    • BayTampaBay says:

@Jaded – No doubt race played a big part in “hate” of Meghan in the UK especially via The Daily Fail. However, I must state my personal opinion, with regards to Lady Colin Campbell, I think race was a minor factor and being an American from “Hollywood” was a major factor.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

I know what @Jaded means about a certain White Caribbean born upper class person and how that person would view a part Black person like Meghan and the position she is in. Disagree completely with you, @BTB, I think LCC problem with Meghan is race first and foremost. Just listening to her speak you pick up on all the unspoken cues. There’s also jealousy and misplaced snobbery, but the racism is the main ingredient driving her hatred of Meghan.

      • ABritGuest says:

I disagree. Lady Cc has used racist trope casting Meghan as a Jezebel who has Harry under a spell. She cannot conceive that Harry might actually love Meghan that’s why she keeps saying he’s ‘enthralled’ or ‘enchanted’ by her& her sex.

She also talks about Meghan being ungrateful to walk away from the royal platform. Which is interesting as many royal experts claim Chelsy and Cressida didn’t want that life because of the pressure and press harassment and they seem understanding of that. Nobody scorns them. Yet people like Lady CC think that Meghan should have put up with all abuse etc because her background meant she was lucky to be in this elite white space at all

    • L4frimaire says:

I know first hand how some white West Indians have really backwards racial views and colonial mentality to this very day. Colin Campbell is very textbook in that regard in so many ways.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

I agree with you completely. It’s one of those things that people who have never had occasion to witness such dynamics wouldn’t understand. It’s not subtle and it is usually unmovable such is the legacy of colonialism on the islands.

    • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

The colonists in the Caribbean were some of the most evil people in history, and life expectancy for a slave was less than a year on some sugar plantations. And while of course she is not her ancestors, her bizarre personal animus shows how many of these attitudes persist in her. You described it perfectly, Jaded, BnLurkN.

  30. Lady D says:

“took a page from the Obama’s and tried to go high.” If Meghan and Harry went low, there would no longer be an royal institution. Talk about burning something to the ground. The Windsors would never recover. Can you give me one example of when Harry or Meghan went low on their attackers?

  31. A says:

I read the beginning of the book and had to stop when she heavily implyed that Megan’s parents marriage only ended because Doria is a closeted lesbian who didn’t even want a husband and was jealous of the attention Baby Meghan got. They should sue her.

    • Nyro says:

This stuff comes straight from Murky Meg and Yankee Walls, two racist trolls who literally make a living off of hating Meghan via YouTube and monetized social media. And nearly all of the Rota reporters have interacted with them and their followers, some regularly. Richard Palmer, in particular, is deep in that Megxit cesspool. Those two women have absolutely helped shape how Meghan is covered in the British media. I hope Meghan and Harry sue their asses next. Internet trolls need to be held accountable. Another hater is UKRoyaltea on Twitter, who claims to be “neutral” and “logical” but is filled with as much anger and racist hatred toward Meghan as those other two. She bends over backwards to attack Meghan for literally nothing and her “logical” tweets are regularly picked up and turned into articles in various British tabloids. These prolific online trolls and many in the British media have a relationship and it needs to be exposed.

  32. Julia K. says:

Lady Colin Campbell was believed to be male when born and named George. Later she was found to be female and had genital reconstruction surgery. She neglected to inform her new husband of this. He was said to be so horrified at the news that he refused to touch her and filed for divorce after only months of marriage. She refused to give up the title and has financially profited from it since then. He describes her as trouble. I personally would not believe one word she says. She was described as saying she did not inform her husband of her background because of the “gutter” press reporting on her. Ironic now that she is gutter press.

    • A says:

“Lord” Colin Campbell was a wife beater who hit her. Why you’d trust *him* is beyond me. She didn’t “refuse” to give up her titles, the tabloid papers refused to address her as anything aside from Lady Colin Campbell, even in the aftermath of her divorce. She’s not honest or trustworthy, but it’s not because of anything her stupid ass former husband has to say on the subject.

He was angry and embarrassed about the fact that it came out in the papers that he’d married and had sex with someone with a genital malformation, and he thought it reflected poorly on him or something, not realizing that his existence on its own was a poor reflection on his character.

  33. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

This is why I believe the Queen is desperate for them to return. I think she’s the only one who wants the Sussexes back. I think Charles knows this is a waste of time, William has discarded his brother completely, and Harry now having tasted freedom will never return. The majority of people don’t read the DM, they read The Guardian and The Times which are very neutral but will lead anyone with a brain to conclusion: this was handled very poorly. SHE buried her head in the sand at the brothers’ problems and the family has been exposed as racist.

I do think that Harry and Meghan are now deliberately courting controversy because they want that clean break. The biggest mistake the Queen made was allowing for that year review when anyone with a brain could have told you Harry was done and was done before Meghan came into the picture. Harry was done when it cost him his military career.

    • A says:

The Times is not a neutral paper. It’s owned by Rupert Murdoch, and its editorial staff is composed of Tory Brexiteers.

And plenty of people read the Fail, the Dim, and all the other disgusting tabloids that peddle racism and other garbage, that have been at the forefront of the campaign against H&M. Those papers have an outsize influence, and dismissing their readership off hand like this is what led the UK to sleepwalk into a yes vote on Brexit.

People should never underestimate the power of a useful idiot, especially a large group of them, which comprises of the Daily Mail readership. There is more crossover between tabloids and respectable broadsheets than there ever was before, and much of what is written about in the Fail is being reflected in the pages of “neutral” papers like the Times. That is alarming.

Also, the Guardian brands itself as liberal-left wing. To that end, they avoid discussing the royal family in any capacity, both good or bad. Their whole stance on the issue is that they don’t care, there are other things to pay attention to. This is why there was a considerable lack of discussion in its pages about the sort of treatment that Meghan was subjected to. She is someone they would otherwise take up for, but didn’t, because she married into the royal family, and they don’t like the royals, and they won’t be seen defending them if they can help it.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

The treatment Meghan received violated human rights, if papers like the Guardian won’t cover the racist, sexist, xenophobic, anti-American, anti-human treatment Meghan received in the country where they are housed in an era of MeTo and TimesUp, then they have no credibility. There are lots of reasons the whole world is reevaluating Britain and it’s not just because of Brexit. It’s because people all over now realize that the BM is useless ineffectual and/or corrupt, they realize that the right wing leg of the media is the dominant voice of Britain.

      • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

A, I 100% agree but this is deeper than where my comment was going. I’m trying to say and
probably overstating and oversimplying (as I do) that only the hardest conservatives care about the royal family and the DM is that mouthpiece with low reliability.

I feel what you’re discussing is the culture of the media which yes needs to be reformed and less biased but this is everywhere.

  34. ola says:

Yes, she did. She’s been extremely determined to become rich and famous. Famous doesn’t mean liked, adored or respected. Not sure she understands that.

    • Resa says:

Meghan has literally never demanded, nor even alluded to, needing to be adored. All she asked was to not to be pilloried and criticized over every little thing. In no way does that desire reflect the nonsense stated in your comment. However, if you’re looking for people who demand to be adored, look no further than the litigious duo, Will and Kate, who sic their lawyers on anyone who throws even the slightest criticism their way. Or did you miss this consistent behavior exhibited by your lackluster faves?

    • Chelsea says:

Meghan was already rich before she met Harry and she had friend group consisting of the Greatest (and one of the richest) tennis players of all time, the son of a former prime minister, and tje wife of the current prime minister; she could have easily found her way to someone famous and more rich than Harry without having to deal with BS that is the British Royal Family and their press.

She’s never said she craves being adored; she’s actually said the opposite. And while you might not respect her, her discussions released with the 19th*, Gloria Steinem, Malala, and Fortune Magazine make it clear that a lot of powerful women who actually do matter do.

    • RoyalBlue says:

“She’s been extremely determined to become rich and famous”

I think you are confusing her with Kate. Kate went into the relationship with William with no money to her name, and has gained the wealth and fame she craved. Meghan already had her money and a long running tv show that would have made her face known to millions.

So please just stop with these silly lies you love to spew.

  35. A says:

Lady Colin Campbell is…an interesting person. She’s spent her whole life feeling cheated by the rarefied society she was born into, bc, in spite of her immense wealth and privilege, she has never been accepted by them due to the condition with which she was born. She’s spent her whole life on the outside, looking in. She was treated like a freak show by people who, in her eyes, have no position to judge her, bc they have bigger and dustier skeletons in their closet that they take pains keep carefully hidden.

So it’s not hard to see how someone like her would have an axe to grind –she thinks the way the wealthy aristocrats in society behave is essentially hypocritical and dishonest. Her analysis falls flat though, because her ingrained snobbery shines through every time. She only cares about “honesty” because she wants to be able to exercise the full extent of the privilege she was born into, not because she cares about the truth.

A lot of her books are insightful, but not in the way she thinks they are. Case in point with this one. I didn’t get through the whole thing, I did read part way through it, and skimmed the rest. I’ve talked about my impressions of it before, but my favourite parts of the book still remain the following:

    1) Apparently, 15 minutes into Charles’ 70th birthday party, Meghan turned to Harry and said, “I’m bored. Let’s leave.” Which is a thing that DEFINITELY HAPPENED, according to LCC, who was not invited to this garden party and heard this story second hand from one of her friends. This shocked and horrified LCC and all her other pearl-clutching, aristo-lite buddies, and made them conclude that Meghan was not cut out for her new life. Because clearly, this is as horrifying as it would be if Meghan committed cannibalism in broad daylight. Someone get me the smelling salts, I feel FAINT.

    2) Her absolute, bone-deep conviction, as a white Karen born in Jamaica and raised by a family of white planters/settlers that made their wealth off of the colonization and exploitation of African slaves, that Britain is NOT a racist society. Her proof for this? The fact that Britain has “strict laws” against racism, which means that racism can’t exist, which means that anything Meghan faced was not actually racism. #facts.

    3) Her insistence that Meghan should have maintained tied with Piers Morgan, bc he is not someone who would have “betrayed her confidences”. She thinks, bc Meghan came to London and networked with him a grand total of once, that she owed it to him to maintain a relationship, and that the fact she didn’t is proof that she’s an opportunistic Hollywood grifter.

    4) Apparently, Meghan didn’t curtsey to the Queen at her wedding, when she was on her way back down the aisle with Prince Harry. This is what tipped me off to the fact that this book was full of crap. I watched the broadcast of the wedding–they switched to an overhead shot right at the moment Meghan and Harry were slowing down to pause in front of the Queen, which meant that the curtsey was not shown on TV. That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

Ofc, Lady Karen Campbell won’t let something as inconsequential as the truth stand in the way of what she think is a good narrative. But given the fact that she seems to be pretty skint on the society invitations these days, I’m thinking she’d be better off finding ways to resurrect her former MIL, who was quite clearly her major source for all the previous books she’s written. At least those were actually juicy and salacious, not just venal and dumb and vehicles for LCC to whitesplain racism.

    • MsIam says:

If Lady Crypt Keeper really wanted to be a certified gossip hound then she would use her tenuous artisto connections to sniff out the Rose bush story. That’s where the good gossip lies but I bet she won’t touch that with a ten foot pole. Instead she joins the mob going after Meghan thinking she can make a quick cash grab. I hope she rots.

      • A says:

She won’t, and she won’t because none of the other aristocrats will comment on the subject openly, even to each other. William is protected by a cabal of silence in this subject. I firmly believe, and I have no evidence for this but I believe it anyway, that the palace has an unspoken rule about the subject, that William is untouchable. He will be allowed to do what he likes, so long as he keeps it quiet, and behind closed doors, and they do not want anyone to talk about the subject openly, because they think its crucial that William, being next in line after Charles, isn’t seen as repeating Charles’ mistakes. And all the other aristocrats will be protecting him on this.

  36. DS9 says:

If she was actively courting controversy, then Meghan is officially the most boring an uncreative person on the planet and certainly in the royal family.

This is a family whose been caught sucking toes, getting wistful over his mistress’s tampons, cavorted with sex traffickers, wore a Nazi costume to a party, constant, flagrant cheating on their committed partners, has shown the world their full ass cheeks numerous times, and are all or have generally been lay about slack asses.

  37. Mariane says:

So they’re blaming the victim. This is just like how they blame women who get raped by how they dress, act, walk…etc but for Meghan the added racist narrative of being a manipulative & demanding black women will at some point be linked to her mother by saying she groomed her just like Carole to go marry a prince! This from someone who was successful actress yet we havent seen her do paparazzi and other Hollywood publicity stunts. They hate her success. They hate that she doesnt need or want their ‘help’ so they (media/tabloids) agreed to paint her as a calculating gold digger even though in reality she’s worth more than harry(yes he has inherited vast money from Diana and QM but is probably tied to assets/trust) and they probably paid the down payment on their house using her money hence why its registered under her company

(Edited) I just realised this is by that idiot hater colin. I wouldn’t click on anything by that crazy creep

  38. yinyang says:

If William and Kate had any decency someone in the palace would have gotten fired for tarnishing the name of a royal member. Why do the people respect the BRF if the palace household servants dont respect them, lol?? the fact that Kate and Willam didn’t fire nor reprimand any one shows they were in on it and welcomed the smearing with open arms. Fire and get rid of all of them, then you’ll see where their loyalty lies.
