Leslie Jones told people not to use her guest bathroom even before covid

Leslie Jones was on Jimmy Kimmel Live promoting the reboot of Supermarket Sweep, which she’s hosting. The new season premiered last night on ABC. I’ve taped it and am excited to watch it! Leslie told Jimmy that she used to watch the original Supermarket Sweep in the 90s and even applied to be a contestant. (Her roommate had to leave early to go work her shift as a waitress and Leslie lost her chance!) I used to watch that too! That show was so much fun and I know the reboot with Leslie will be awesome. They couldn’t get a better host for that. She also said that things aren’t that much different for her in the pandemic because she’s always been very germ conscious and she called herself a hypochondriac. At least she knows that about herself. Before covid she would try to discourage people from even using her guest bathroom and when they did she’d clean it right afterwards. Plus she’s always had PPE! Here’s some of what she told Jimmy and that video is below. She kept cracking me up.

On how she’s keeping busy during the pandemic
Doing what I always do, watch TV and tweet out what I’m watching. Pandemic wasn’t really a pandemic to me. That’s how I live my regular life.

How safe she’s being now
You could say I had PPE before PPE was actually PPE. I don’t let people use my bathroom.

“Before [this] if somebody came to your house they’re not allowed to use your bathroom?”
I’ve got two bathrooms now but if somebody used that bathroom it is immediately cleaned. Most of the time I ask them to go to the lobby. I don’t play like that. I don’t get in the swimming pool when other people are in the swimming pool. That’s booty water at that point. I absolutely stay at an Air BnB and no one is allowed in my pool. It has to be heated so it can kill the germs.

“Do you go outside?”
No, it’s a pandemic. Sometimes I go [out]. Wherever I go it’s limited. Everything has to be planned out.

She’s a hypochondriac
I am a hypochondriac. My doctor wants me to just stop. She’s like ‘there’s nothing wrong with you. We can’t run anymore tests. There are no more tests.’ I think I’m having a heart attack [all the time] I’m like ‘which side is the heart on?’

[From Jimmy Kimmel Live on YouTube]

I have not had one person in my house since March 13th other than my son’s dad, who came to stay with us and got tested before. I can completely understand people who are germ conscious not wanting anyone to use their bathroom. It seems like you would catch more just from hanging out with the person, but that’s mostly based on our knowledge of covid. Before now we were worried about things like flu and norovirus hanging around on surfaces. Remember all the commercials about killing colds and flu in the bathroom? Simpler ass times.

Leslie also did an interview with ET where she said that she doesn’t miss SNL (she left last fall after five seasons) because it was a really hard job. She said “That job was like two jobs and very restrictive too. I wasn’t very free there.” I bet she has some stories and hopefully she’ll dish at some point.

Here’s that interview!

    that’s exhausting

  2. mellie says:

damnit…I forgot that was on last night!

  3. Giddy says:

One of the funniest SNL skits ever was when Peter Dinklage was guest host, and he and Leslie were contestants on Naked and Afraid. I laughed so hard my ribs ached!

    • Lucy2 says:

That was a great sketch! I always really liked her on SNL and was sad that she chose to leave, but I’m really glad she’s getting other opportunities and is happier.
Supermarket sweep is not something I would normally watch, but I will go check it out for her.

  4. megs283 says:

I mean, that seems inhospitable! Let your guests use the bathroom.

    • Lua says:

She’s right though. Your friends are gross! I hate people who don’t close the lid before flushing. Have you ever seen the video of the toilet flush in slow motion with the top up?! I put a sign on my toilet during parties that guests have to shut the lid before flushing after all of my hand towels were bleached from the toilet water (I used to put those tabs in) after a house warming party 🤢

  5. Heather says:

I am so with her on the pool thing. How are people not disgusted by submerging in someone else’s “booty water” ?? 😂 I wish i wasn’t so grossed out honestly, but chlorinated poo is still poo 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • ME says:

I don’t know how to swim but when I see people in a pool or hot tub I just feel grossed out for them. You’re literally taking a bath with many other people lol just with a bathing suit on. No thanks.

  6. Lyli says:

    That doesn’t sound healthy.

  7. Jen says:

This is an anxiety disorder. I know because I had it, and dealt with it through loads of therapy. She should seek therapy for this and perhaps she is. It is exhausting and really unhealthy.

  8. Eliza says:

Dust is dust mite poop; that’s nearly impossible to live without. We all live with something gross around us. Let guests use a bathroom, or don’t invite people to your house. Pools and oceans (which as Moana points out “fish pee in” too) are not booty water. By that logic no one should sit on your furniture in shorts. Or lay down because they might breath germs onto surfaces. If you can’t live in a space without a possibility of germs, there’s probably a larger issue at hand. Obviously, I’m not talking about the current covid situation and self isolating to keep covid at bay.

  9. ethy says:

I do a light clean after people use my bathroom too (after they leave though). I love my friends but it just grosses me out!

    • ME says:

I’m the same way. If someone uses the bathroom that doesn’t live in my home, I always clean it the minute they leave lol.

  10. RoyalBlue says:

she probably doesn’t go to the ocean because we are swimming in whale pee and poop.

  11. Aud says:

Don’t have guests if you are going to get upset about their normal bodily functions.

  12. IMUCU says:

I’m definitely going to watch Supermarket Sweep! I was watching the reruns of it during the pandemic shutdown, lol

  13. GoogleIt says:

I want to know why Leslie was rep!aced in the movie “Queenpins.” There has to be dirt there. Kristen Bell remains attached to the project but Leslie has been replaced by Kristen’s friend Kirby Howell-Baptiste. Someone serve this tea to me, please.

  14. Milkweed says:

I watched it! It was really good. I love how Leslie talks to the contestants over the speaker system when they’re running around crazy during the shopping part. That is so funny!

  15. Geogia jaffe says:

As someone with a disability that requires frequent bathroom use, people like this are MADDENING.

  16. Elizabeth says:

The CDC website says diarrheal illness can be transmitted in swimming pools (Crypto, Giardia). She’s quite right. Germs can survive sometimes for days in pools. Chlorine won’t kill all of them.

I don’t like public bathrooms, but my understanding is that if people wash their hands properly and maintain basic sanitation, they are fine.

  17. Annabel says:

I love her, but discouraging guests from using your bathroom is just terrible hospitality.

  18. BeanieBean says:

There’s no stamp on her ballot envelope! And hers clearly requires a stamp! I hope she’s just dropping it off in a ballot drop off & not at the Post Office.
