Monaco’s Prince Albert is facing yet another paternity claim for a kid conceived in 2005

Monaco National Day 2020 - Celebration Of Mass At Cathedrale Notre-Dame Immaculee

Last week, Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene debuted a terrible new “punk” (skaterboi) haircut. Many of us correctly called the haircut what it was: a cry for help, some kind of hairstyle-version of a Morse code S-O-S. Charlene likely got the haircut after a heads up on a story which broke on Friday: Charlene’s husband Prince Albert is facing yet another paternity suit, this time from a Brazilian woman who claims that he fathered her now-15-year-old daughter. For those people interested in doing the math, Charlene and Albert met in 2000, and soon after, she moved to Monaco to be his girlfriend, all while he was apparently still seeing other women. Before Charlene and Albert were married in 2011, she tried to escape Monaco only for Albert and his henchmen to confiscate her passport. Soon after the wedding, Albert had to give his DNA in a paternity suit but it turned out that he wasn’t the father that time. He does have two children, Jazmine Grace and Alexandre, from previous relationships (Jazmine was born before he got with Charlene, Alexandre was born in 2003). So, let’s hear about the new mess!

Prince Albert of Monaco will appear in court in the new year to fight explosive claims he fathered a third love child with a secret girlfriend before marrying his now wife Princess Charlene. The 62-year-old prince, who already supports two illegitimate children, is alleged to have had a relationship with a Brazilian woman which resulted in a daughter in 2005.

The claim, which his lawyers dismissed as a ‘hoax’, is particularly painful as he was dating Charlene at the time, having met the former Olympic swimmer in 2000. Sources in the Mediterranean principality say she has had a ‘terrible’ year as lawyers for the billionaire couple brace themselves for the court case that opens in Milan, Italy, in February.

The 34-year-old claimant – who cannot be named for legal reasons – says she had a passionate affair with Albert, leading to the birth of their daughter – whose name is also classified – on July 4, 2005. Albert received a handwritten letter from the child, who is now 15, in September this year reading: ‘I don’t understand why I grew up without a father, and now that I have found you, you don’t want to see me.’

Legal papers were also filed, as lawyers for the claimant called on Albert to undergo a DNA test – just as he did before finally being identified as the father of two illegitimate children born in the 1990s and early 2000s.

‘This was before Charlene and Albert were an item, but the latest case covers a time when she was already in love with him,’ said a source who works closely with the Monaco Royal household. ‘Charlene has had a terrible year, with one family crisis after another including Albert going down with Coronavirus, and now she’s gearing herself up for this hell.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Whenever I write about Charlene’s pre-marriage years, I always wonder what was going on with her that she moved to Monaco, apparently had some kind of apartment in Monte Carlo paid for by Albert, all while he saw other women. And then she got cold feet when it came down to walking down the aisle. I don’t know – it seems like it was a complete mess from the word go. The Daily Mail has a lengthy timeline and it’s just awful! They included some details about the “runaway bride” situation – like, I did NOT remember that Charlene got as far as Paris and she was hiding out in the South African embassy, OMFG. Apparently, Monaco officials had to “coax” her back by brokering a deal which involved her providing him with a legitimate heir, then she would be free. Yet she’s sticking around – my guess has always been that Albert set her up with a comfortable home to raise the kids and she rarely even spends time at the palace. Anyway, it’s just so crazy. All of it.

  1. Chartreuse says:

Geez! I have a friend who knew Albert, even dated him, 30 years ago. She really liked him and said he was a good guy. The kidnap /runaway bride thing is odd and not sure I believe it. But Charlene’s hair looks cry for help for sure. Would not at all be surprised if they live apart

    • Snuffles says:

He can be a nice guy AND a cheater. And I can believe the runaway bride story. It would be the equivalent of Diana trying to make a break for it days before the wedding. There was no way the kingdom was going to let that happen.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Absolutely Snuffles
I believe the runaway bride story. And I’m sure lots of guys entertaining young women are very nice. Doesn’t mean they are Prince Charming through and through

      • terra says:

@Snuffles, my grandmother was with one of those type for ten years. She became quite ill early on in their relationship, well before they married (which was it’s own debacle, oh my god), and he took amazing care of her. He just couldn’t stay faithful.

She finally left him only to randomly get married a year, year and a half later. Her one demand was that he stop sleeping around.

They we married for a few years when she found out he’d broken his promise, and let me tell you, so many people were shocked – shocked, I say! – when she followed through and left him for good. They couldn’t understand why she couldn’t just get over it when she had so many times before on the first go round.

So, I also think it’s entirely possible she found something out during the lead up to the wedding – possibly their own broken promise? – and tried to bounce because of that. But none of that means he can’t also be a nice dude. You’re completely right that being a cheating dog and and being fun to be around aren’t mutually exclusive.

      • Lorelei says:

The runaway bride thing definitely happened — I remember watching it at the time. But I don’t remember the specifics of how far she got before they found her and took her passport. Idk how they got involved in the first place but this relationship has been a mess since day one.

    • Snappyfish says:

I have only seen her genuinely smile twice. Both times were on the podium at the Monte Carlo F1 race where she was drinking champagne w/hot winning drivers.

What people will give up (happiness & the keys to their own life) for a crown

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Hmmm… one other springs to mind *cough*Kate*cough*. Only time *she’s* really “alive” is sailing with Ben Ainsley.

But yeah… nailed it with another Albert mess.

    • Tessa says:

I think it was an arrangement so he could have heirs.

    • Belly says:

Geez, why doesn’t the guy just get a vasectomy already? He’s clearly incapable of keeping it in his pants, and he has his ‘legitimate’ heirs. Stop leaving messes behind dumbass!

I realise calling illegitimate children a mess is not very nice, I can’t think of how else to say it. He’s leaving pain and hurt, they are children, people.

      • Bread and Circuses says:

He didn’t have heirs yet when this child was conceived. It happened (if he’s the father) before he and Charlene were married (but after they’d started dating, so…still messy.)

    • Andrea says:

Wow to your friend dating the Prince! Crazy good gossip.

    • Cee says:

A former classmate at uni met him several times as a teenager, as her father is a friend of his. Albert would visit their home in the Monte Carlo of South America, where they would have parties full of young, beautiful women. She even showed me some photos! So this is something I’ve seen with my eyes.
I’m sure he’s been a cheater his whole life, why would marriage stop him? He has they $ to support all of his children.

  2. Digital Unicorn says:

Yeah I think she and the kids don’t live with him and only spend time together for official engagements. He’s always always been a cheater and she had her own agenda for going through with it. Am sure there are more kids out there that have been hushed up.

I guess this marriage can be seen as the blueprint for the Cambridges. These 2 at least look like they can stand being in the same room.

    • FHMom says:

I like this theory. I do wonder, though, given his history of impregnating women why he doesn’t wear condoms.

      • Nic919 says:

These guys assume the women will take care of that. They are too arrogant to bother and probably can afford to support them.

      • RoyalBlue says:

ugh he must be a walking STD.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

You’d’ve thought he’d have gotten snipped after the twins! Esp. knowing he wasn’t going to stop fooling around. But yeah… STDs for sure. Wonder if he has his court physician “test” women he’s dallying with first, to check?

      • Ravensdaughter says:

        So creepy and sad…

    • Nic919 says:

William also has the benefit of media blackouts. What if he has a few children out there as well? The UK media certainly has let Bojo get away with the unconfirmed number of children so they would easily do that for royals.

      • Snuffles says:

I’m willing to bet William, Charles AND Philip all have illegitimate children out there.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

Diana said Philip for sure does. Charles… possibly, but we know a lot of his mistress history. William I am sure in time we will hear something.
Just like Albert these all pop up years later. The pattern being the mothers stay quiet and placated until they realize the lies.

      • Nic919 says:

I’m inclined to think that Charles does not because he tended to be with society women who didn’t want children while married to someone else and birth control was easily available from the 70s on.

The media blackout for William certainly suggests he’s got something to hide and since minors are protected in the courts for cases like this, it’s probably why the international media has not broken the blackout. They aren’t going to keep quiet for just an affair. There is more we don’t yet know.

      • ArtHistorian says:

The former king Albert of Belgium was recently forced to recognize a daughter. He fought against it but was compelled by the court to deliver a DNA sample that proved that he was the father of this woman (she’s adult).

There was also gossip that both Christian X and Frederik IX of Denmark had children outside of wedlock. Frederik IX is very likely to have had other children – he married late and there wasn’t easy access to birth control in the 1920-30s. And he was a party boy.

      • Tessa says:

I don’t know if it true or not. Janet Jenkins one of Charles mistresses said her son Jason “could be” Charles son.

      • Lorelei says:

@Nic I think that if it ever emerges that William has another child out there, the drama and press coverage would make the Charles & Diana debacle look like a walk in the park in comparison. It would be SUCH a scandal!

      • kd says:

        Yeesh…

  3. Feebee says:

He really makes a meal out these paternity claims. He knows he’s been a dog, so why not take the test and then it’s settled instead of putting everyone through the wringer?

I didn’t see the new haircut till now, oh yeah, that’s looks like a cry for something. Money may make life more comfortable but clearly it doesn’t buy happiness.

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

He could have kept this all quiet by settling it privately. Why he lets it play out in public is odd.

      • HeyJude says:

Just like why doesn’t he get a vasectomy if he fools around this much- he must get off on it all.

Knocking up randos, press on what a infamous lothario he is, he must enjoy it all to keep it going on instead of keeping it all quiet. He and his billionaire friends probably chuckle over what a scamp he is while they compare bedpost notches and the tally of baby shoes across the globe for sport.

  4. Sarah says:

Is this child his? DNA will tell.

Could this child be his? Absolutely. His behaviour has made it very clear that fidelity is not his thing. I hope she is content with her life choices but the pictures we see suggest that might not be the case. At least Wilileaks wraps it up.

  5. Merricat says:

I feel so sorry for her—she seems really unhappy.

    • She had the ability to say NO, instead of I Do when it really counted.

      • Lorelei says:

@LowCountryLady: ordinarily I would completely agree with you but for some reason even I don’t understand, I’ve always had sympathy for Charlene. She definitely tried to flee before the wedding — I didn’t realize she’d even gotten as far as Paris before Albert’s minions apprehended her and confiscated her passport, dragging her back to Monaco.

She still could have refused to actually marry him, but she just seemed so trapped and miserable. It’s such a sad situation all around. Albert is trash and I hope their twins are okay.

  6. whatever says:

Wait a sec. If this woman is 34 now, and her daughter is 15, that would have made her 18 or 19 years old when her daughter was conceived. And Albert was about 47. Impregnating an 18 year old. Is my math wrong, or is it odd that there is no mention of this?

  7. Cecilia says:

    Chileee he’s ugly too🙄

Seems like he had to get married due to age and she was the next best thing. But this marriage is in such shambles they put the windsors to shame.

    • Snuffles says:

The similarities between Charles and Diana are strong. Aging playboy prince forced to settle down and produce legitimate heirs. Suckered a young, pretty blond into being his breeding mare. Young Princess is miserable and turns her energy to charity work for fulfillment.

The only twist is that she tried to make a break for it.

      • FHMom says:

But I don’t think Charlene is in the same zip code when it comes to naivety. Diana was truly innocent before Charles. I think Charlene had a life, and at least knew enough to want to bail on their agreement but failed.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

I sometimes think she made a break for it as a way to renegotiate her arrangement with him – remember he set her up with her own apartment in Monaco when they first started dating. They clearly had an ‘understanding’. I also think she is a Top CEO, when on the outside she wanted in and now she is there she has found that the fairytale didn’t matchup to her expectations.

I don’t know enough about the Monaco royals to know if she works hard but he does.

      • Julie says:

Diana wanted to bail just before the wedding too. She was triangulated back in. Charlene got as far as the airport but lets remember that in Diana’s case there would have been nowhere to disappear to on earth. It would have been a scandal she and her family would carry for the rest of their lives.

      • Chaine says:

I think it would be a lot harder for Diana to leave because she was set to marry the heir to a commonwealth spread around the globe with millions upon millions of future subjects having expectations of her and the marriage. In contrast, Monaco is TINY in size, like you could probably run the entire length of the country in less than an hour, and the population is not even that of a midsize city in the US. It’s basically the equivalent of marrying the really wealthy mayor of, say Newport, Rhode Island. If you leave him standing at the altar, sure, it is a newsworthy scandal for a week or so, but there isn’t as much pressure because there just aren’t that many people that care.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        FHMOM
Charlene was an Olympian. Not all of course, but Many young olympians are extremely naive. They exist in a Controlled bubble. So, take a young adult from her bubble and put her in another controlled bubble of Prince Albert. It’s a lot.

      • Oh-Dear, Doctoral Student (EdD), Professor says:

@chaine – Monaco is tiny but the family is already super messy in a public way so I think Charlene had a bit more leeway than Diana did.
The Windsor messiness is also public but it seems there is an agreement with the tabloids and their constituents to gloss over it publicly and pretend they are regal and proper. I feel like they keep themselves more insulated than Monaco’s royals so they can hold on to the misconception that the fairytale is believable to everyone.

      • Tessa says:

I read that Diana at one point went back to Althorp from BP after the engagement. Her father sent her back.

  8. cocoa says:

This news is completely insane, and you think that the British Royal Family was bonkers. I think Netflix should make a dramatic series on the Grimaldi Family.

    • ArtHistorian says:

The sordid affairs and various other scandals of the Grimaldis have never been hushed up – unlike a lot of what goes on with the Windsors. The latter are just more powerful.

      • Nic919 says:

Exactly so. There are rumours of Phillip having a child out there. And who knows with William and the recent media blackout.

      • ArtHistorian says:

The really scandalous stuff sometimes come out much much later – like the really damaging info about exactly how close to treason Edward and Wallis danced. Plus, the euthanasia of George V so that his death could be announced by the more reputable morning papers instead of the evening tabloids.

      • Tourmaline says:

Not just sordid affairs with the Grimaldis, but very unhappy marriages. The Grace Kelly-Prince Rainier union wasn’t exactly a fairy tale in reality from what I’ve read. Plus Albert’s sisters have had many disastrous alliances (and the happiest marriage Princess Caroline had was cut short when Stefano Casiraghi died in a speedboat accident when their three kids were very young).

    • Sumodo1 says:

Absolutely! I would stan for that!

  9. RoyalBlue says:

it must be so difficult dealing with this in private, more so in the public arena. i feel for her.

and yes, that hairstyle and not wearing her wedding ring coming from her, is a typical eff you statement.

i used to follow the grimaldis and found them all to be a hot mess, but it looks like the younger generation have managed to stay out of the spotlight.

many naysayers on here have decried the implication she is a hostage bride, but the run up to the wedding was legendary as was her miserable appearance on her wedding day. no, they was clearly not tears of joy. i am sure she is sticking around and just reminding herself of all the coin she is collecting as she stays silent on the issue.

    • Lemons says:

Yeah, I agree with this. Charlene has never seemed joyous in her marriage, but she did seem serene after having children. But at this point, I imagine she is tired of it. And if she is going to be publicly embarrassed by Albert yet again, she is likely lashing out and doing the same to him without being overt.

  10. PhD gossip says:

Charlene doesn’t look well at all.

  11. Chill says:

I don’t know. Charlene is a badass athlete. She competed in a grueling water race this summer that showed she is gnarly. Maybe she wants to be badass as a princess?

  12. Bibi says:

Charlene probably had to stay at the palace the whole year without seeing her family which would have been so hard, since they are not really living a life together. That man is gone all day from a documentary I’ve seen on him. And now this. Poor Charlene. A golden prison.

  13. FHMom says:

Is there something charming about this guy, aside from his title and wealth? I wish someone could answer that question.

    • Snuffles says:

His mother was the beautiful actress Grace Kelly. She was in numerous classic movies before she gave it all up to marry a prince. Seriously, her brief career was filled with CLASSICS like Rear Window, Dial M For Murder and To Catch a Thief.

I could totally see him working that angle and regaling girls with stories of his legendary mother and her tragic death.

      • Lorelei says:

@Snuffles I think that’s *all* it is — the fact that he’s Grace Kelly’s son. If he wasn’t, I doubt we’d even be talking about him right now.

The BRF has always been more popular worldwide, but William and Harry definitely benefit from being Diana’s sons since she was so adored.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

At one point he was hot – google him as a younger man.

      • Snuffles says:

Meh. He was kinda cute at best. I’m sure him being a prince and future king made him infinitely more attractive to women. Like “beer goggles”.

    • Anners says:

I agree – he looks like a smug boiled egg. He’s almost the same age as my parents and Charlene and I are close in age. Every once in a while he looks like he might be kind, but then you get a “he-impregnated-an18-year-old” story and I’m just skeeved out all over again.

  14. chimes@midnight says:

    That poor kid.

  15. tee says:

Why are people still referring to children born outside of marriage as “illegitimate”? It’s archaic and dehumanizing.

    • Capepopsie says:

      I totally agree!

    • Snuffles says:

True, but it’s a whole other ballgame when it comes to claims to a throne and all of the wealth and power associated with it. So, yeah, people are going to make it clear who has a legitimate claim to the throne and who doesn’t (the illegitimate).

      • Bettyrose says:

I mean maybe they could say “born outside the line of succession” or something else less dehumanizing. Let’s not pretend the term is merely a technicality of royal families and not a deliberate attempt to enforce a system that allows upper class men to fuck around with no repercussions.

    • Izzy says:

Truth. My Bubbe used to say there are no illegitimate children, only illegitimate parents. She had no tolerance for deadbeats.

      • bbb2 says:

My great grand mother has one of those too, until the father of the child (that poor girl was 14) He handed her the baby and walked away, she raised my aunt Eleanor
as her own. She passed away at 94 and confessed

  16. yo-yo says:

    F this racist tool.

  17. Lizzie says:

One of his daughters is a beauty like Grace. Sorry I don’t know her name.

  18. Chica1971 says:

He should have kept Caroline’s kids as his heirs and remain a playboy ( and got a vasectomy)

  19. Bettyrose says:

Are we still referring to children born out of wedlock as illegitimate? I mean not only is that a fked up way to talk about a child and human being, but it’s an age old means of shaming women for having sex.

    • Juls says:

I agree, its disgusting. Here in the South, the term “bastard” is still thrown around a lot too.

      • bettyrose says:

I was wondering about that. I was thinking about Bastard out of Carolina and how one of her greatest achievements was having the “bastard” label removed from her birth certificate.

    • Mignionette says:

Illegitimate in this context just means they’re not white enough. LMFAO.

If the illegitimate tag were disbanded Alexandre would be the rightful heir.

  20. Likeyoucare says:

Maybe charlene is staying because of her kids. It is not easy to run away with her kids especially when they were the heirs.
Harry succesfully got away because he is the second child.
I dont think kate can take her children away from uk if she want too when willie divorce her.

  21. Lexistential says:

I still don’t think the haircut is a cry for help. But I can certainly see “Go F yourself, your new ho, I’m gonna do this, go ahead. Divorce me.” A deliberate F to being “Consort”.

    • Margaret says:

I see it as an “FU” statement, too. She’s fed up to the gills with his philandering and crappy attitude and it is a challenge. It makes me smile, too. I wish more married-in royal women who are expected to put up with crap from their arrogant husbands would rebel a bit.

He has form. He should have just taken the test and admitted he has another child if it’s positive. But, no, he has to cause another public circus. Same sort of silliness as the Belgian Albert.

    • Thirtynine says:

I agree. Not a cry for help, but a strong and powerful statement, for sure. When it comes to unhealthy or unhappy relationships, there is often a turning point where you internally come to some decisions and start putting yourself first. Maybe this is what we’re seeing. I have always liked Charlene- whatever is going on I hope she comes through ok. I wonder though, really. Considering Albert’s history, would it really be that devastating for new children to turn up? I mean, he has form, and as you all say, clearly is completely careless about contraception, and it was all from many years ago. Maybe she wasn’t crushed, maybe it was more like, ‘you know what, Albert, you sort yourself out, I’m over it.’

  22. Lunasf17 says:

Just take the paternity test and then either pay up or move on. And the woman is my age now and in 2005 I graduated high school so she was 17 or 18 when she was possibly impregnated by him?! Eww. Has he never heard of pulling out of condoms? How can someone be so careless at that age? What a mess!

  23. Julia K says:

I looked back at her photos when she was a competitive swimmer. Thicker hair and natural eyebrows; compare that to heavily pencilled brows now and thinner hair. Could the cut be hiding a medical problem? Stress related perhaps?

  24. Other Renee says:

Why did she wait 15 years to come forward with this paternity suit? Why did her family not get involved if she was so going at the time?

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

      I’m guessing money or attention.
Attention for her child? Maybe there was some small communication in some office of his and she’s fed up with having her child pushed into the shadows.

Or the great motivator… money. Child support continuation or increase.

    • Jane says:

Maybe because she was 18 when she had her child. She could’ve been scared of being in the press and face slut shaming and accusations of gold digging. It’s not surprising that she would change her mind now that she’s in her 30’s. The kid herself could’ve convinced her as well.

    • Candikat says:

Yeah I was thinking she might have waited until her child was old enough to understand and to give some sort of consent to go through with a grueling public process. Which would make her relatively admirable in my book.

    • Other Renee says:

Oops that was supposed to say “young” at the time. 🙄

    • Oh-Dear says:

to me it reads that the daughter was the one who was reaching out not the mom.

When my husband was 14 he got curious about his father’s family, whom he had not been in contact with since he was 4 (his mom was manipulative, she moved to another country with her much older new husband, she is messy). He wrote a letter to his grandparents on his own, so I can believe this is how the story had developed.

  25. Seraphina says:

I had really wished the assessment that haircut was a cry for help was wrong, but it just really was so out of the ordinary. As far as he concerned, typical male with power and money and a title so he thinks he is above IT all.

  26. L4frimaire says:

That’s really messed up. This man has three baby mommas and well as the heirs with his wife. Is this woman currently 34 years old? That means she would have been around 19 when she hooked up with a much older Albert. That man is a royal ho. I feel bad for his wife in that he wasn’t upfront with her. He is literally spreading himself all over the place. It’s disgusting. Can you imagine if she’d had 3 other children from 3 different men? Would never happen. She’d be burned at the stake. It’s amazing what these men get away with. She probably already has her exit plan in place soon as those legitimate kids turn 18. It’s sort of tragic how messy and dysfunctional Princess Grace’s kids turned out with their personal lives. At least the grandkids seem really sound and more grounded.

  27. Gm says:

BRF if they have out of wedlock kids would definitely hide it. Look how they were about the rumors of an affair for William. Though on paternal side Zara and Peter have half sister they have never spoken/ communicated so I figure that’s the way they roll.

  28. SM says:

Ew. He is disgusting. And this is what I wonder about. It is one thing to keep up a charade of partnership to sustain your image, but it is a common knowledge he is a sleazy, cheating whore, so why not separate and then all this cheating would not be news. Also Charlene is one of those fairytales realised: she literally is a Princes prisoner, only not locked away in an ivory tower by some envious female but, as it often happens in real life, by a white, abusive man with no moral compass.

  29. Mignionette says:

“The 34-year-old claimant – who cannot be named for legal reasons – says she had a passionate affair with Albert, leading to the birth of their daughter – whose name is also classified – on July 4, 2005. ”

^^^ DISTURBING AF. When you factor in pregnancy, that would make the newest kids mother ‘barely legal’ at the time of the liaison with Albert and still a teenager at the very least. There is a very real problem with these ‘Royal Households’ and the men in-particular. I’m amazed Albert hasn’t been mixed up the Epstein mess. It seems to be his mileage.

“Yet she’s sticking around – my guess has always been that Albert set her up with a comfortable home to raise the kids and she rarely even spends time at the palace.”

^^^ There is likely a stipulation that the children belong to the principality and she cannot leave without them. Any woman who accepts the situation Charlene was in surely has some residual issues of her own that would allow her to be abused (yes it’s abuse) in this way.

Ah there it is. That’s why she got that horrible haircut. At this point I think Grace Kelly and her husband were horribly overindulgent parents. Their kids are so screwed up.

At least Caroline tried to clean up her messiness – to some degree.
