Rob Lowe claims he saw neighbor Prince Harry with a ponytail: is he full of it?

CELKEAQlucc
Whenever a not so flattering story about William and Kate is about to break, per the usual royal family and British media playbook, a ridiculous story about Harry and Meghan dominates the news for days before, to sort of bury those stories. But over here in America, we like to wade into the waters of harmless frivolity as it concerns the Sussexes. When U.S. outlets are not fairly reporting about Harry and Meghan’s projects, they prefer to spread silly rumors like the one Rob Lowe started when he was being interviewed by James Corden.

Rob lives near the Sussex clan in Montecito. Rob says he recently had a Prince Harry citing while waiting at a stop light in the neighborhood. Get this, supposedly this “Prince Harry” Rob saw had grown his hair out and was sporting a ponytail. When James said he didn’t believe Rob’s extremely tall tale, Rob doubled down and said he was sure it was Harry because he followed the car to Harry and Meghan’s Montecito home. Below are a few highlights from the conversation via People:

“I just ran into your countryman, the English treasure, Prince Harry, at the stoplight 10 minutes ago,” Lowe told the host. “He lives about a mile from me. He’s been very reclusive. Seeing him in the neighborhood is like seeing the Loch Ness Monster, and I finally saw him. I finally saw him driving his car.”

Lowe continued that he “may have a scoop” on the Duke of Sussex.

“It was very, very quick — don’t totally quote me on it — but it looked like he’s wearing a ponytail,” the actor said. “I’m just saying. It looked to me as a casual observer that his hair had grown very long and was pulled back very tightly by what I can only assume was a ponytail.”

Corden seemed skeptical about the style gossip. “I’m certain that isn’t true,” the host said. “Do you know what I think’s happened? I think you didn’t see Prince Harry.”

“Oh no, it was him because I have to say — I followed him to the house to see if the car went in,” Lowe admitted with a laugh.

[From People]

When Rob Lowe said seeing Harry was like seeing the Loch Ness monster, I cackled. I doubt Harry is out and about. He’s probably cuddling with Archie and Meghan as they build their media and philanthropic empires in secrecy. If you haven’t figured it out yet, Rob is full of sh*t. He is still that 80s pretty boy in his head–well, he’s still pretty but he’s a bit of an ass at times. Plus he has been known to tell a tall tale. What I’d like to know is how in da hell does Harry have a ponytail when our ginger avenger is still trying to grow hair back in that bald patch in the crown of his head? What sort of miracle hair grow formula is Harry using? Maybe being out of the toxic environment of the royal family has stimulated hair growth. Whatever the case, fans have recently seen Harry in several videos for his patronages and I do not recall seeing a ponytail, Rob. If Rob did see a red-headed man with a ponytail driving into the Sussex’s home, it was more than likely a security detail or a security body double for fast getaways or something of the sort. That is, if his tall tale has any truth to it.

I love that James called Rob out on his bullsh*t. Rob’s banter is quirky but it seems to have fallen flat. Hopefully, the British press don’t pick up on the story and turn it into a week long exclusive on Harry going California surfer dude. I do believe Rob told the story in jest and it should be taken with a grain of salt. With that being said, if Rob truly believes he saw Prince Harry with a ponytail then I need to know what Rob was smoking so I can get some. I, too, would like to hallucinate a certain Duke myself *wink*.

I just cant imagine Rob Lowe tailing Harry to the entrance to his house, lol. That’s where he lost me with this story.

Although, miracle hair growth product or not – if Harry did have a ponytail I admit I would consider it the ultimate in William-trolling. “you are a penis with teeth, and I have a ponytail!!! HAHAHA!”

I’m not surprised Harry is like the Loch Ness Monster. I feel like they must both be experiencing some sort of….PTSD…or something similar, after their time in London/the UK, where it seemed they lived these hyper-private lives because everything was twisted into a negative. Now, even when things are published here in the US, like the pictures of them out and about in LA last week or the week before, we just like to discuss what they are wearing and the weather. It’s a different type of coverage* in my opinion and I think eventually Harry will adjust to that.

*It’s not that the press here in the US is so much more above board or so amazing or anything….its just that the American interest in the royals is different (i.e. there’s no sense of ownership or what they “owe” us.) And I know not ever Brit feels that way – most probably dont – but the press sure does.

  2. Amy Bee says:

Yeah, overall Rob Lowe is a terrible person but even Hollywood is struggling during this pandemic so a story about Harry was bound to get him the attention he craved. I see the Daily Mail crew including the royal correspondent, has picked up the story but I think that’s because they’re desperate for anything about Harry and Meghan.

    • Becks1 says:

It makes me laugh because the RRs sure do spend a lot of time talking about the royals who are not taxpayer funded and who live on an entirely different continent and are supposedly so “irrelevant.”

      • Amy Bee says:

This story was tweeted about by royal reporters before the story about William and Kate disregarding Scotland about the royal train tour. It’s clear that for them, Harry and Meghan are royals that get the royal rota the most engagement on twitter and clicks on their stories so they may say or repeat Palace talking points that Harry and Meghan are irrelevant but it’s not true. It’s difficult for them to get stories about Harry and Meghan now so anything little tidbit become major news for the tabloids.

    • He is a FAMOUS right winger and a complete spoilt shithead. Ask anyone who has worked a set with him. Insufferable ass. He’s just looking for attention and reminding everyone I LIVE NEXT TO A PRINCE. Don’t give him the attention.

    • Temperance says:

Has Lowe dumped the Dump yet? I dumped him over it, so he’ll not be getting the benefit of my eyeballs on any of this projects.

  3. nicegirl says:

Oooh I would not love it, I’m pretty sure.

  4. Ginger says:

Oh some of the RR’s are buying this story. They really are THAT dumb.

  5. ABritGuest says:

of course this ridiculous story is all over the British royal press. They are thirsty as hell for H&M content.

They thought those days of following them to engagements & getting leaks from insiders would last forever. They thought

  6. Bettyrose says:

How recent is Rob Lowe’s show on Brit Box? I had the sense he was spending a lot of time in Britain these days. I’m not a huge fan but I don’t have an issue with Rob Lowe. He won me over with his role on West Wing.

    • Becks1 says:

I dont want to break your heart, but I’m pretty sure he’s a Trump supporter – or at least not liberal at all IRL. Bradley Whitford and he have gotten in some twitter spats over politics that make me think, “oh no, not Sam Seaborn!”

I will say that his interactions with his sons on IG are pretty funny.

      • Jay says:

Rob Lowe is one of those who I have to conclude must have great talent as an actor, because his characters are always charming, even his villains, yet in person he is such a tool. I do love the image of Rob the busybody, peering through his curtains to catch a glimpse of the neighbours. “Boys, get me the binoculars, I think Harry has a ponytail!”

      • bettyrose says:

Eh, I can live with the fact that Rob Lowe is actually the person he looks like he is. The fact that he played Sam Seaborn so convincingly speaks to his acting ability, as Jay says, which does surprise me. I would’ve put my money on “secret liberal” over “actually talented actor.”

Now, that Brit Box show where he’s supposed to have a doctorate from MIT, he doesn’t pull that off *at all*. I couldn’t get past the second episode.

  7. Muffintop says:

Is it Rob Lowe whose son trolls him on Twitter / Insta? I think it is. Whoever it is, it’s hilarious.

    • Becks1 says:

Yup, both his sons! One is a writer in Hollywood (Chad maybe?) and one got his law degree from Stanford last year or the year before. I think Chad is also sober and is very open on IG about his sobriety journey. The whole reason I started following Rob on IG was to see the trolling lol.

      • Lucy2 says:

        Chad is his younger brother.

      • Becks1 says:

Well damn it then who are his kids?? wait I follow them on IG I’ll go look LOL. Oh there’s a Johnny Lowe! oh and Matthew. Okay. Chad is not the son. LOL. Sorry Chad!

      • Amelie says:

This conversation just made me realize that Hillary Swank used to be married to Rob’s younger brother Chad!! They divorced in 2007. I didn’t know Hillary Swank was Rob Lowe’s former sister-in-law! I wonder if she has has good gossip stories about him haha.

      • Anne Call says:

Yeah, both his sons went to really good universities, I think Duke and Stanford, and it’s nice to have some kids of actors who aren’t trying to be actors/models at 18. I think he was liberal but has become more conservative which I don’t get under trump regime. They just sold a massive estate in Montecito for 45 million and “downsized” to a 16 million place.

  8. Lorelei says:

I’m sorry, but this is one of the funniest, most preposterous stories I’ve ever heard 😂

As for Rob admitting he followed the car to their house…yikes. Idk how he thinks that makes him look, but imo it’s creepy and definitely not something he should have said publicly.

  9. Julie says:

I’m sure its a prank. Rob Lowe asked to not be quoted on this. His smile and the twinkle in his eyes are dead giveaway. In my opinion, its the medias who look ridiculous not Harry who is himself a happy prankster.

  10. Willow says:

Wouldn’t be great if the celebrities started ‘Harry sighting stories’ just to troll the British press? I give this one a C+

  11. Sofia says:

This is definitely a joke lol. Harry doesn’t even have much hair anyways to form a ponytail hence why he probably picked this as a joke

  12. smee says:

I read that Harry said he caught a glimpse of Rob Lowe and he had bad frosted highlights!

  13. Lizzie says:

Rob Lowe is one of those men who I dislike but yet is so darn charming. Clearly the story was a joke as was the surfing story. The RR are desperate to distract from the Covid Cambridge Choo Choo tour.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

This is where I am. I dislike him, but he can be charming. Plus, I vividly remember St. Elmo’s Fire. His looks, and subsequently Ian Simmerhotter’s, pray upon weaknesses. 😁

  14. Summergirl says:

Come on, Harry is way too bald for a ponytail. Not that some men haven’t tried…

    • JanetDR says:

I see “skullet”s all the time. Not my favorite look but it’s worn by many old hippies.

      • Sankay says:

He’s going bald in the back but he still has hair. If Harry is keeping to the COVID rules he may be like a lot of people who we foregoing haircuts.

  15. BnLurkN4eva says:

The fact that he included Harry having a ponytail is the give away. There’s no way that Harry has a ponytail, he can barely maintain his slight crop at present. I don’t mind Harry’s bald though, his beard balances everything out and tie it altogether to form an attractive appearance. I hope as someone says above famous people start reporting fake H/M sightings to troll the BM.

  16. Keen Kate says:

He looks like a David Beckham wannabe here!
    Remember when Rob Lowe said:
‘Honestly, one of the great traumatic experiences of my life was watching Prince William lose his hair. He’s going to be the f***ing king of England!’
When asked if he considered himself less or more vain than British men, he said: ‘British men set a low bar’ – citing the Duke of Cambridge’s hair

  17. Lucy2 says:

I’ve been listening to some celebrity memoirs to try to take my mind off current events. When I finished Rob’s, I decided either he’s the most Forrest Gump like person out there, or he lies and or exaggerates about a lot. Really strikes me as someone who over inflates his self importance and always wants to center himself in the middle of some big news story.
Also he totally glossed over that whole sex tape with a minor thing…

  18. Cecilia says:

The fact that this story is even making any kind of noise gets me thinking about a doc i watched prior to meghan and harry’s wedding. I cannot remember who said it but a he said: “ the future of the monarchy will probably be more determined by meghan and harry than by william and kate”. They way the media and Brittons alike act regarding the couple and their split from the RF gets me to believe that this is true. They feel betrayed by harry because in their minds harry is the true leader.

  19. Julie says:

That story made me laugh the whole day yesterday and still today. He was joking for sure, since he asked no to be quoted. In my opinion, the medias look so ridiculous by repeating this story. If I remember correctly, Lainey.Gossip was dubious and predicted that UK tabloids were to go crazy about that story.

  20. M.A.F. says:

The guy barely has hair on the top of his head. Better to believe if he had dyed his hair black or purple. Or shaved his beard off. Or started dressing in yoga gear or something.

    • L4frimaire says:

Harry really should do something to minimize or arrest the encroaching baldness, get a hair transplant or something. Won’t be mad if he does.

  21. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Struggling for a bit more relevance.  🙄

  22. Linda says:

I hope he’s not growing his hair long because having lots of whatever hair you may have left is not a good look.

  23. lanne says:

Well I have it on strict authority that Meghan’s sporting a mohawk these days. With the tips dyed blue. Someone tell the royal rats that the blue is code for her support of Democrats. There she goes being political again… Archie has a little red baby mohawk as well. Also with the tips dyed blue. The indoctrination of Archie has begun… (Actually, it wouldn’t be surprised if he had a mowhawk naturally–lots of under 2 years old do as their hair grows “up and out”)

  24. Emily says:

Harry is much too bald to rock a pony. Sorry, Rob.

I can’t help it. I find Rob SO attractive.

    • L4frimaire says:

I never got his appeal as an actor beyond his looks. My favorite role of his was his character on Parks and Rec. Didn’t see many Brat Pack films with him, most notably St. Elmo’s Fire ( he was so cute then), didn’t like the West Wing, so only saw him in it a few times, and his current show is just ok.

  25. Sunnyvale says:

lol the guy succeeded in getting hype for whatever he was promoting! This nonsensical story is clearly a joke/lie. His wink at the end and him admitting to “following” harry shows he’s joking

  26. elle says:

He’s a liberal-turned-MAGAt. His infamous tape with an underage girl was at the DNC in Atlanta in 1988. Maybe that was when he realized he really was a conservative…

ETA: He’s got the “let’s pretend I don’t have a haystack on my head” thing down.
