Maren Morris calls out country singers’ wives for supporting the terrorists

Maren Morris didn’t used to be on my radar as an artist. However, since she’s speaking out more about her struggles as a new mom and her beliefs, I’m very impressed with what she has to say. Maren not only supported BLM and dreamers in her song Better Than We Found It, she used her acceptance speech at the Country Music Awards to acknowledge the contribution of Black women to country music and those who have inspired her. In the wake of the terrible events at the Capitol, Maren, like so many others, tweeted her devastation. And when fellow country artist Mickey Guyton also tweeted out her disgust, Maren replied to Mickey by calling out “some singer’s (sic) wives” for supporting the terrorists who attacked the Capitol. It didn’t take Mickey, or anyone else, very long to figure out Maren was pointing her finger at Brittany Aldean, wife of country singer Jason Aldean, and Brittney Kelley, wife of country artist Brian Kelley.

Maren Morris is disturbed by the shocking images of the attempted coup at the U.S. Capitol last week.

In a series of tweets — and replies with fellow country star Mickey Guyton — on Wednesday, the singer expressed her discontent regarding the violent actions in Washington, D.C. Both Morris, 30, and Guyton, 37, also expressed their anger over some fellow country singers’ wives’ comments the day of the attacks.

“Today is gonna be hard to shake. Something my WW2 fighting Paw-Paw never told me about, something my parents never had to go through… thinking about how I will tell my son about this one day,” Morris tweeted, referring to her 9-month-old baby Hayes Andrew.

“I am completely disgusted. Are these boys still backing the blue? Asking for a friend,” added Guyton in a tweet, referring to the insurrectionists and supporters of President Donald Trump who stormed the Capitol.

Morris then replied, “And how do some singer’s [sic] wives conveniently not know the difference between marching for racial injustice and Nazis breaching our Capitol because their guy didn’t win? 🙄”

“I know exactly who you’re talking about,” replied Guyton with a GIF of Megan Thee Stallion.

Morris and Guyton appeared to be referring to Brittany Aldean and Brittney Kelley (wives of Jason Aldean and Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line, respectively). Aldean has expressed her support for Trump, questioned the Black Lives Matter protests over the summer and criticized the contextualization of Wednesday’s riot. Kelley, 30, has not supported a candidate by name, though her husband previously told a fan that he did not vote for President-Elect Joe Biden.

Aldean, 32, later complained about being “silenced” after one of her posts — falsely detailing the presence of Antifa during the attempted coup — was deleted on Instagram.
(Aldean’s post referred to a baseless conspiracy theory.)

“It’s getting so ridiculous the filters you put on everyone that’s against your narrative,” she said on her Instagram Story Thursday, adding Sunday, “Everything I say gets blown up and made into a ‘story.’ Apparently freedom of speech doesn’t apply to everyone and that’s the issue I have. I have AMAZING conversations with my liberal friends and we can agree to disagree. It’s the people that aren’t willing to hear you that chap my ass.”

“Brittany” is Country for “Karen.” And isn’t it cute that Brittany spells her name with an “A” like “Aldean” and Brittney has an “E” like the extra “E” in “Kelley” so we can tell them apart. To further her point to Mickey, Maren posted a shot from Brittany’s IG with some conspiracy theories showing just how vacuous Brittany is:

And many a Maren Morris fan was made that day… Seriously, folks were thanking Maren and Mickey for putting this on their radar. I wouldn’t have known about the Britts’ BS if they hadn’t called them out either since I don’t follow much country music gossip. I’m fine with people who openly supported the insurrection being named. Shame may be the only punishment we get for now.

If you are wondering what Brittney with an E did, she was posting crap like this during the attack. This is from a woman who lists herself as a ‘mental health enthusiast’. So yeah, screw both Britts. As for Maren and Mickey, I’d love it if this is the new image of country music. I know the reputation it’s held for years and probably for good reason. But if 2020 showed us anything it’s that the South is a much more layered place than those outside it know and it’s time to listen to all the voices speaking out from there. Let’s move the Britts to the back and give Maren, Mickey, Her Ladyship Dolly Parton and their kind the microphone for a while.

I’m so glad you covered this, am now about to be a huge Maren Morris fan!! Thank you lady

    • a reader says:

Maren is from my town and as I’ve mentioned on a few posts prior about her, I know her parents and she was raised right.

Considering where she was raised – in a conservative suburb outside Fort Worth Texas – she is super brave for going hard against the insurrectionists. There are plenty of ignorant yahoos here who would threaten her safety and I hope her parents have a good security system since they still live here.

I am grateful to see the love for Maren. She’s talented, brave, and spot on with these posts!

  2. Izzy says:

Jason Aldean is trash, so I guess it’s not a surprise that he married trash too.

    • Anonymous says:

His wife was the “other woman”.

      • Lucy2 says:

That’s pretty much all I know about him, that he very publicly cheated on his wife.

      • It’sJustBlanche says:

Does he have a career anymore? In about 10 years, both of these women will be divorced, living off child support, while their exes are in rehab or touring the state fair circuit. Enjoy the good life while you can.

    • Meghan says:

I liked him in the beginning and I can’t stand him since he dumped his wife and kids for Brittany. And his latest song is all about how Brittany is the best most amazing thing to ever happen to him and whatever came before her was just meaniningless. I think I listened to 45 seconds and went eff that.

      • MattyLove says:

Meghan, I hate that song too. So disrespectful to the mother of his children from his first marriage.

  3. Angel says:

I love Maren Morris and “The bones” is my jam. I hope she gets her grammy this year.

  4. Becks1 says:

Good for her – country music is starting to get more diverse viewpoints and I think that’s really important. I know the fan base for country is huge, but I personally stopped listening to it – maybe 10ish years ago? Maybe more than that? – when it seemed like every song was either about religion or being a patriot. I know its changed a lot since then so maybe I should give some of these artists a listen (I know Maren Morris but I am not familiar with Mickey Guyton.)

    • Alarmjaguar says:

Same, Becks. I listened a ton through the 90s and then it just became pop light with flags and crosses

    • Agirlandherdog says:

I used to be a big country music fan, but it fell flat for me for the same reason Becks. However, Maren Morris is one of the few country artists I really enjoy listening to. This just makes me like her even more.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Yes, it all melds together into one “white” agenda: country music, Christianity, guns, flags. They are all now a culture of “White America.” I am not surprised that so many support the terrorists who attacked the capitol, because they want their racist President to stay in office making racist policies.

  5. LORENA says:

Brittany Aldean seems to be best friends with Tomi Lahren. Both trash

I only even remember Brittany Aldean because she was Jason’s mistress when he was still married to his highschool sweetheart. Also does anyone remember the pics of Jason dressed up as Lil Wayne for Halloween in full black face? They deserve each other and they have been showing us who they are for years

    • It’sJustBlanche says:

She’s stupid is she’s not hiding money and waiting for him to dump her too. Botox and fillers aren’t cheap.

  6. LaUnicaAngelina says:

I worked at a live music venue a couple of years ago and most artists were country/Americana musicians (moderate fame, independent artists or small labels). Many of them are liberals either confirmed directly, via their music, or their social media. One specifically told the owner, “I know people see me and think I have certain political views.” He’s a white man with a long scraggly beard and a cowboy hat. It was refreshing to learn more country artists aren’t MAGAs/conservatives because before working there, I definitely thought otherwise.

  7. EM says:

Bless her. Given that a certain percentage of the country music listening population condoned the insurrection, this took guts for her to do.

  8. Eleonora says:

Good. I’ll stream her music to support.

  9. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

By all means call em out, round em up and shoot em down, but let em talk so we know heathens or heroes. It’d be sublime if all the faux patriot wankers in the country found themselves unemployed, cast out and shunned and unable to be in public ever again. Disgrace is the very least they deserve.

  10. Meg3 says:

Wow. Kudus to Maren Morris for drawing attention to this. That Brittney-person posted another IG post: https://www.instagram.com/p/CJvy2MFFpkt/ and if you check out the comments it appears that some comments have been deleted that called out a another commentator who defended the rioters/terrorists (What about BLM yada yada yada). If Brittney deleted the other comments challenging the defender then it shows what she still really thinks (despite the Gandhi quote).

    • Jodi says:

i was just coming on here to say that Brittany Aldean is notorious for blocking/deleting anyone who questions her. she blocked me for posting a, very kind but rightfully questioning, response to her BLM post back in the summer and then attacked anyone who questioned her using her 2million person platform to downplay the movement. she is a trash human being honestly. she has continuously flaunted their mega mansion and clearly disregarded COVID rules and is very pro-MAGA. if you’re going to post so publicly about your crap views, you have to be willing to take the heat but everything she does in response is: PEOPLE ARE CENSORING ME BECAUSE I DON’T FOLLOW LIBERAL POLITICS!

      • Meg says:

‘ if you’re going to post so publicly about your crap views, you have to be willing to take the heat but everything she does in response is: PEOPLE ARE CENSORING ME BECAUSE I DON’T FOLLOW LIBERAL POLITICS!’
        Exactly. Shes a hypocrite

  11. Veronica S. says:

The South has always been layered. It’s just that a lot of people who have the skill, opportunity, or intention get the hell out while they can, which means those left behind are drowned out by the uglier portions or are just actively suppressed. But frankly, a lot of the political and cultural issues there are from generations of poverty, underfunded education, and white supremacy. Wealthy wives of country stars, however, have absolutely no excuse. They have the resources to know better.

  12. Lunasf17 says:

I’ve been a fan of her for a while and am so happy she is calling out these wives! I’m here for it!

  13. 3Gatos says:

I think she looks like Khloé Kardashian.

  14. JaneDoesWerk says:

This strikes such a cord with me. How do we combat misinformation? What do we do when our friends share it? Are they entitled to their opinion? Of course! Is their opinion dangerous? In some cases, yes. Do I have a responsibility to call them out? Maybe? What’s the best way to do that without further alienating someone who feels disenfranchised? I admire Maren so much for making her opinions crystal clear and for vocalizing her frustration with the pro-Trump associates that she has. It makes me sad that have many acquaintances and family members who voted for this idiot and while I
Make my own opinion very clear, I do wonder how far to take challenging them.

  15. Marigold says:

I sent y’all stuff about Aldean before. She is problematic to say the least. She has had get together all during the pandemic and complained about not getting to have concerts. I followed her for awhile because she has really cute kids. Now she shills merch on every other post. She is all about getting that coin. And her kids are generally glued to the tv.

I knew she was vapid, but after I realized that she was a rabid Trumper I had to move on. She flies the Trump flag and the Antifa stuff was just too much. And I deleted Jason Aldean’s music which made me sad because some of his stuff is ok.

  16. Blanster says:

She also called out the CMA awards for having Charley Pride come in person to the event where he probably got COVID and died a few weeks later. That’s the first time she was on my radar. That took guts too, so I applaud her.

  17. MissMarierose says:

    mental health enthusiast?
    More like mental illness enthusiast.

  18. Jodi says:

Maren wasn’t really on my music radar but i started following her this week because her integrity won me over. we need more of this in Country Music.

  19. Elisa says:

I like Maren Morris’s music. Check out My Church and Bones. Mickey Guyton has a great voice, I’ve only heard one song from her but I’ll check out more. She’s one of the few Black artists in mainstream country music (Darius Rucker is another).

  20. Elisa says:

Also, I liked Jason Aldean’s older music eg Night Train but he’s been a mess more recently and now I definitely won’t support.

  21. Cecilia says:

She always been my fav country singer💁🏽‍♀️

  22. Chris says:

I went from being a jason music fan to disgusted. The wife is trash and the flaunting of wealth disgusting in the midst of a pandemic. Both wives sharing massive misinformation as well as aldean is too much. Who would waste time on these low class people? Go Maren and Mickey for making this ……..they should be ashamed! We had a free and fair election and lunatic Trump lost by far and then incited an insurrection. Anyone that supports that behavior is appalling and not a patroit.
