Mock Swearing-in for members of 117th Congress

Mitch McConnell is trying to screw over Democrats, as always. He wants to convince Dems to keep the filibuster so he can impede President Biden’s agenda. [Towleroad]

Can someone please tell me this clown has been cut off at the knees? He is effectively impotent politically as well now, right?

    • schmootc says:

With the Senate divided 50/50, he’s not completely impotent, unfortunately. I guess he and Schumer ironed out some kind of power sharing agreement like what was done the last time the Senate was split. But part of that is the Dems decide what gets voted on, so bills won’t just sit on that butthole’s desk forever anymore at least.

  2. MyOpinion says:

When will his power hungry evilness end? Since that day during Obama’s term, were Moscow Mitch professed his dedication in blocking Obama at every opportunity that he could power over, was the day that I understood the hatred I have for him. McConnell will never stop until Kentucky boots him out. No one should be proud to proclaim that their sole purpose is to block an opposing parties president, and when they do, vote them out!! Don’t give into him Schumer!! Moscow Mitch is the devil! McConnell took an oath of power, not loyalty to the American public, no matter your party affiliation.

He has ruined Mrs Doubtfire for me.

    Never underestimate MoscowMitch’s opportunism 🙄

  6. InVain says:

JLo looked amazing in both of those outfits but I think I prefer the first one by the plane. Her performance was well done and tasteful as well. I was a little skeptical as she’s a diva without the best set of pipes. Very proud day. I had tears of optimism in my eyes as they took their oaths. Kamala’s felt particularly special. I appreciated ALL of the fist bumps today too. For one day, I don’t want to think about the nasty politics of the past 4 years. The sun is shining in DC today (I’m in the burbs).

“A Diva is the female version of a hussler,” it isn’t a negative thing, and overwhelmingly used to describe non-white women, who arguably know and advocate for their worth… maybe that is just one of my buttons!

Schumer: RESIST MCCONNELL in his FILIBUSTER argument for a SUPER-MAJORITY of 60 Senate votes instead of a SIMPLE MAJORITY of 51 votes. The Founding Fathers never conceived of this practice and it wasn’t until the South lost the Civil War that they got the Super-Majority that allowed them to push through and keep JIM CROW LAWS for over a hundred years. Schumer, McConnell is a sneaky bastard who refused to consider Merrick Garland, the Supreme Court nominee of Obama for ONE YEAR. Instead we got 3 racist, sexist justices appointed by Trump. When Justice Ruth Ginsberg (sp.?) died, McConnell waited only TWO HOURS before starting the nomination process for Stepford Wife whatever-her-name-is in the FINAL days of Trump’s presidency, ramming her into place instead of allowing Biden to choose a nominee (which has been the tradition when the current president has mere days left in office). Senate Majority Leader Schumer: obstruct McConnell for good government. Do it.

  8. jferber says:

Alert: I just read Trump did leave a letter for Biden, as is tradition. I’d like Secret Service to take the letter and test it for Polonium and other poison/germs. President Biden: Don’t Touch That Letter. It’s written by an enemy of democracy.

  9. Bex says:

Oh, the Dems aren’t gonna fall for the banana in the tailpipe again. Mitch showed his whole racist butt during Obama’s two terms.

They won’t let him have that power again.

    • Juniper says:

The Democrats are the eternal Charlie Brown and the Mitch is Lucy with the football. I can totally see Schumer “compromising” by allowing the filibuster and the Dems getting absolutely nothing done as the Repubs filibuster everything. But, didn’t they put a time limit on the filibuster now?

  10. jferber says:

Juniper, I don’t think a time limit is an issue. The new filibuster (as I’ve read) is not like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington where Jimmy Stewart has to keep talking. It’s a “symbolic” filibuster in that unless there is a Super-Majority (60 votes) in which Republicans would have to comprise 10 votes, it’s a virtual filibuster in that it serves the same purpose (that Dem legislation dies in the Senate). That’s how McConnell blockaded Obama. But I very much like your comparison of the Dems and Rethugs to Charlie Brown and Lucy. Very apt. Brilliant, really.

    • Anna says:

I’m just so confused, though. Why would Democrats agree to this when they have the majority (with Harris)? After all the work organizers did in George!!! They are not served by this at all! And Turtle isn’t majority leader anymore so he can’t force it, can he? I just don’t see how he still has power to do anything! What am I missing here?

  11. JRenee says:

Remember this is the same clown who said winners make policy and losers go home.
Don’t let him have anything that will slow progress!

  12. jferber says:

Cruz and Hawley voted against the new director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines. I suspect both dumb and dumber will oppose everything President Biden does. They need to be expelled for their sedition on January 6th.

  13. dlc says:

Can we talk inauguration fashion? Because I loovveed what Michelle Obama wore!

  14. Elizabeth says:

If they get rid of the Filibuster rule, does that mean it’s gone forever? Like if the GOP gets control of the Senate again, could the Dems bring it back up? I know it can be a bit messy, but if it means it stays so the Dems have some aide with GOP in power, then I’m for it sticking around.
