Sharon Osbourne complains she was ‘totally blindsided’ by the Piers Morgan segment

SharonOsbourne2
Last week Sharon Osbourne tweeted out support for Piers Morgan. This was after Piers stormed off his show while being mildly questioned about his years of abuse of Meghan Markle. On Wednesday, Sharon was asked about the tweet on her show, The Talk. Sharon was defensive, aggressive and threw expletives at her colleague, Sheryl Underwood. Sharon used textbook white fragility and crocodile tears to get out of taking responsibility. On Friday Sharon issued an apology, using the line “to anyone of color that I offended and/or to anyone that feels confused or let down by what I said” without once acknowledging her Black co-stars. Friday, CBS announced an internal review into Sharon’s behavior, signifying that she may find herself without a job like her buddy Piers. Cue the tears because now Sharon is playing the victim again, stating that she was blindsided by CBS and that she basically isn’t responsible for her response. Below a few details via People:

Osbourne, 68, apologized on Friday for her comments in the episode, during which she said that she had been accused of being racist after voicing her support for Morgan, 55, in the wake of criticism about his response to Markle’s recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.

However, the TV personality is now claiming that CBS “blindsided” her when the topic of Morgan was brought up.

“I blame the network for it,” Osbourne told Variety on Friday night. “I was blindsided, totally blindsided by the whole situation. In my 11 years, this was the first time I was not involved with the planning the segment.”

Osbourne explained that the showrunners called her about eight minutes before taping began to ask if it was okay if they asked about Morgan.

“I said, ‘Sure, they can ask me whatever.’ But then I get on there, I say my piece and Sheryl [Underwood] turns around straight-faced, looks at me and is reading from a card with questions,” she said. “I was just so hurt, caught off guard and stunned by what I was being asked and not prepared. I was honestly in shock. I felt like I was in front of a firing squad. I felt like a lamb held out for slaughter. … They had me there for 20 minutes.”

Osbourne also said she “begged them to stop, to please change subjects” when they went to commercial break.

[From People]

Sharon continues to avoid self reflection by screaming she isn’t racist and blaming everyone but herself. No one is buying it and several people who have worked with Sharon are pointing out that this isn’t her first instance of racism. Holly Robinson Peete tweeted that Sharon called her and Leah Remini “ghetto”. Remini tweeted in 2012 that Sharon was behind the two of them getting fired for the show. I am not sure how Holly and “ghetto” could ever be in the same sentence but there it is. Sharon then denied ever calling Holly “ghetto” and tweeted out a private correspondence between her and Holly in which Holly thanked her for being a good co-host. HuffPost contributor, Yashar Ali, called out Sharon’s intentional withholding of the second email that Holly sent to Sharon after Holly found out that Sharon was instrumental in her firing. Yashar also provided proof by way of a six point thread of Sharon’s past racist behavior on the show and in some of her own tweets. CBS has announced that The Talk will be on hiatus and that all upcoming live shows have been canceled pending the review. All I have to say is that Sharon had it coming. And as my mom has always taught me, birds of a feather flock together. If Sharon did not have the same beliefs and values as Piers, I promise you, she would not have supported him.

Me, a self-professed soap opera junkie: we lost As the World Turns for this?!

    • Trixie says:

I loved ATWT too – watched from the early 80s til the very last episode – I’d gladly trade all of the talk shows to have it back!

      • Neners says:

It was my first soap opera love. I used to record it on our VCR and watch every single day after school.

      • Lady D says:

I watched Another World from first episode to last. I still think about Felicia Gallant, occasionally. There was no one like her in my life, she was my introduction to flamboyant.

    • pottymouth pup says:

@LadyD the mom in the family I babysat for watched AW so I’d record it for her and watched it in the early 80s b/c I had a bit of a crush on RIchard Bekins, who played Jamie. Didn’t Linda Dano actually pen some romance novels under the name Felicia Gallant?

Pity there isn’t a repository where you can watch every episode of a any soap from begin to end

    • JosieRockhead says:

This!!! I grew up watching ATWT with my mom and my sister. I still go on YouTube to watch old shows that have been uploaded. Get this mess off the air and bring back my “stories!”

      • Jais says:

Love this divergent convo. And I wish that a streamer service would upload all old episodes of soaps, like that might be worth a monthly fee…although I’m not against it just being free obv, just saying there’s gotta be a streamer market for it

  2. Lauren says:

I’m still at a loss for words with this person. I’m still not over how she told Sheryl “don’t you dare cry, I’m the one that should be crying”. I would have smacked her and gods I still want to smack her. You cannot be friends with some one who is racist unless you are racist yourself. It’s that simple.

    • Yup, Me says:

Yes, her haranguing demand that only SHE and no one else had any right to be upset to the point of tears was Peak White Woman behavior.

Britain/British folk are really far behind in this conversation. Looks like they’re on the aggressive catch up plan. Which is good. Some of the stories that have been shared by POC who live/work there in the last couple weeks have been shameful and enraging.

      • Starkille says:

At this point she has lived in the US far longer than she ever lived in the UK. “She’s British” is not a valid excuse for her (not that I thought that’s what you were saying, but the number of people I’ve heard try to excuse it this way, especially people who’ve been in the Us for decades, is staggering).

    • Myra says:

Exactly. Her first instinct was to attack a person of colour as she herself used her white tears to frame herself as the victim. She was doing this while defending a racist misogynist who has consistently attacked another person of colour. It’s amazing how they react when they feel under attack but expect Meghan to maintain composure and silence when she is attacked.

    • Mac says:

Why does the media think we want to watch rich old white women who have been clueless for decades?

      • Lady D says:

        DING DING DING!

      • Liz version 700 says:

        👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

      • Killfanora says:

And a rich, old white woman who uses the word “blindsided” as much as she can because the British press use it about the Queen and Harry/Meghan! So Sharon has delusions of grandeur and thinks she’s like the Queen 😂

    • Maida says:

This whole thing reminds me of the Roseanne Barr saga: apologize, walk the apology back, blame it on something else (in Barr’s case, Ambien). A simple, straightforward apology from the outset is what was needed.

  3. Sid says:

She’s just horrible. She’s had previous racist incidents and she bullied Danni Minogue constantly when they were both on the X Factor. I hope this latest mess is the end of her career in the U.S.

    • AnnaKist says:

Exactly, Sid. This episode is bad enough, but she’s just a vile, nasty creature who thrives on insulting and offending others, She’s incapable of behaving any other way. Her grandkids are surely old enough to access and understand what she does? And the network needs to take accountability here, too. They’ve known for years what her game is, and paid her to play it. She’s a garbage human.

  4. Darla says:

    SHUT UP Sharon!

Good god get her off the air.

  5. Mariatia says:

She said that Lauren? Holy crap, bye granny! I hope you saved some of you (not) hard earned money!

  6. SheaButterBaby says:

There’s also a video that resurfaced of Sharon saying saying Meghan Markle isn’t black because she doesn’t look black to her. When Eve and Sheryl corrected her, she refused to listen. She’s proven to be an all around despicable person. What’s even more frustrating is the thousands of comments on her “apology post” from white women saying “we stand by you” and “we forgive you” and “no need to apologize” as if the apology was for them to accept in the first place. Gross!

    • pottymouth pup says:

oh there’s commentary on Velshi’s thread about that and there are folks correcting me that Osborne was right because Markle identifies as biracial, not Black, and is therefor not Black

    • Maida says:

Candace Owens apparently said that Meghan isn’t “Black enough” to have experienced racism. There is not enough eyeroll.

      • Mel says:

Candace Owens is a self-hating, opportunistic parasite. No one should pay any attention to a word she has to say.

    • Sid says:

There’s also the comment she made about Justin Bieber when he was wilding out some years back and acting like a complete ass. She basically said, “Justin, you’re not Black.” Meaning that his bad behavior was because he was acting like the young Black men who were his main friend circle at the time. She is vile.

    • Juniper says:

I used to be on this royal site, and there was a lot of this on there, WW saying, “well she doesn’t look black TO ME and she hangs out in white spaces so therefore she’s faking blah blah blah.”

  7. aquarius64 says:

What’s to think over? She’s done.

  8. GrnieWnie says:

I hear comments like this from white people all the time. Right now, they’re mainly from white men. They feel attacked by MeToo and BLM. Now they’re all, “Why me? Don’t go putting me in a group and treating me that way just because I’ve done it to you.” Or “I haven’t done this to you, OTHERS have, and I have no responsibility here.” Or “what you think happened actually didn’t, which is why no one is responsible for it so how dare you try to place that on us?” They personalize the pushback from below and get emotional about it when what we mean, when we talk about white men, is really a condition (in which white men are the most powerful people in society) rather than individuals.

It’s hard because I don’t know when to tolerate this as part of someone’s learning process, and when to just write someone off. I think we can all agree that Sharon digging in and denying/refusing to learn merits writing her off. Her insisting this about HER and nothing else is a problem that isn’t tolerable. Especially as this is all unfolding in public. People gotta learn. Sharon, white men, you’re not the victim here.

    • Giddy says:

Why, oh why can’t anyone give a sincere, meaningful apology? Why can’t anyone (in this case white men) say “I want to apologize for the way you’ve been treated, and the way you’ve been hurt. You did nothing to deserve such treatment and it is a crime. Any part that I played I apologize for and promise to do better.” Or just a simple “I’m sorry.”

  9. NTheMiddle says:

Sharon obviously enjoys playing friends to all sides. That email from Holly is something else… Sharon released it to prove Holly is lying but it only shows that Sharon obviously has racist tendencies. She talks out both sides of her mouth and had conversations with Holly and Leah about Julie. The ‘communist state’ was obviously a behind the scenes racist joke between Sharon and others about Julie’s Asian background? Sharon really is dumb for putting it out there.

  10. equality says:

So no specific apology for her bullying of Sheryl? But she is anti-bullying. She bullied her in public, she should apologize in public.

  11. Bunny says:

I can’t stand to watch Sharon Osbourne it hear her voice, and would be thrilled to see her go. Any possible scrap of sympathy went out the window with her “If I’ve offended anyone” apology.

If you need to apologize, don’t qualify it. Don’t half-a** it. Say you’re sorry, period. Acknowledge your wrongdoing. Don’t offer excuses.

    How infuriating.

    Ugh.

  12. LeonsMomma says:

    Dear TV Network Producers:
Stop hiring Sharon Osborne. She is the worst. (And her daughter Kelly isn’t too far behind.)
    Signed,
    The World

    • Annaloo. says:

Let’s not forget the time Kelly thought she was being clever in mouthing off that Trump needed to stop insulting Latinos bc “who would clean his toilets”. The apple never falls far from the tree, this family has a lot of media capturing what they think of people of color out there.

  13. MsIam says:

I’m sure she’ll find a spot on Fux News or one of its brethren. Or maybe that network in the UK that’s supposed to be hiring Piss Morgan.

  14. josephine says:

Racists are always coming up with new and creative excuses for leaking racism out of their pores. Being blindsided doesn’t cause racism. Even if she was blinsided, and I believe nothing she says, being blindsided just puts your true self on display. Hence racist.

It’s like the highschool sports announcer who blamed his low blood sugar for his racism.

I find the excuses as vile as the racism. It’s like they are admitting that they usually keep their racism under tighter wraps and want the world to apologize to them for putting them in the position where their own racism is on display.

    • Lady D says:

He originally blamed it on his high blood sugar. Approximately 100,000 diabetics stepped up to let him know how wrong he was about high sugar symptoms. It was glorious and funny.

      • josephine says:

Oh, sorry, I knew it was something about the blood sugar level. And while I did find the responses from those with diabetes funny, I’m still incredibly sorry that a man who found it necessary to viciously attack CHILDREN would be anywhere near kids in the first place. He’s vile and should never be allowed back in the gym again.

  15. Amy Bee says:

Sharon needs to be replaced. She will cry that she’s been cancelled but the speed in which CBS has launched an investigation tells me that there have been other complaints about her behaviour on the show.

  16. Becks1 says:

My god, the fragility. Apologize and try to learn something from this Sharon. You are not the victim here.

  17. paranormalgirl says:

Ugh. Peak Karen Osbourne. Why she EVER had a platform is beyond me.

  18. Petra says:

I’m not sure why it’s hard for people to just say “I’m sorry, I f**up “. I starting to believe the inability of people to apologizes is a major part of the human problem and is part of our downfall as humans.

    • Betsy says:

Yeah, it’s clear that she felt spotlighted and couldn’t just say, “oh, I guess you’re right, Piers has said and done some pretty awful stuff, maybe I shouldn’t have reflexively defended him.”

Doubling down *is* one of the worst human traits, yes.

      • Petra says:

Yes @Betsy. What you wrote is all she needed to say. We the poster at Celebitchy need to open PR firms.

      • Alarmjaguar says:

Or, you know, she could have kept her mouth shut and listened to what other people had to say!

  19. Jo73c says:

She’s always been trash. I don’t understand how she keeps getting hired.
She and Piers Morgan = birds of a feather

  20. Betsy says:

That was an astonishing clip to watch and I had my 10 year old watch it with me. I wanted him to see what playing the victim looks like, and that it’s used to shut down conversation.

Sheryl was extremely polite, didn’t lose her cool, didn’t even get wobbly voiced (like I do when I’m attacked but in the right). Sharon wouldn’t let her get a word in edgewise to answer the questions she was allegedly asking.

  21. Watson says:

Sharon is and always has been a super B. None of this surprises me.

  22. Merricat says:

Honestly, if you’re sticking up for a prick like Piers Morgan, you are not someone whose opinion I respect, period.

  23. sa says:

Even without knowing there was a follow up email after Holly learned more, that email hardly reads as though it’s Holly’s sincere, or complete, thoughts. It is obviously very carefully worded to praise Sharon, but it’s somewhat damning in that (a) Sharon wouldn’t take Holly’s calls, and (b) she easily changes course and throws others under the bus when it benefits her. I’m not sure why Sharon though it made her look good.

  24. Melanie P says:

Well,,,,,her name is sharon,,but she acts like a *karen*,,, 😉

  25. pottymouth pup says:

It’s a shame that the rest of the cohosts are, for all intents & purposes, being punished while Osborne’s behavior is being investigated instead of continuing to film without Osborne

    • HoofRat says:

No kidding, that was my first thought. These unspeakable a**holes always cause a huge amount of collateral damage when they’re finally held accountable for their actions.

  26. MissMarierose says:

American audiences were first introduced to Sharon Osbourne when she was seen throwing a rotting ham over her neighbor’s fence during a dispute, so if ANYONE here is “ghetto” . . . .

    • Jojo says:

And with her teenage kids being disrespectful and cursing like sailors while cats and dogs were using the bathroom all over their house.Yet she has the audacity to call Holly “ghetto”.

  27. Mireille says:

First off, I LOVE Holly Robinson Peete since her days on 21 Jump Street as the only female lead. She sang the show’s title song and I recently downloaded it from iTunes. Love her singing voice! Very 80s pop-nostalgia.

Secondly, I cannot stomach Sharon Osborne. She’s the main reason I cannot watch The Talk. I never understood why the producers gave Sharon so much power on that show. She’s placed front and center among the circle of other co-hosts as queen bee and all, lording her opinions over the common masses. She’s not interesting and her voice just grates on my last nerves. She has the AUDACITY to call Holly, much less anyone else, “ghetto” when her fricken Karen-azz is loud-mouth, ignorant, witless, and crass. Just no. I’m glad someone’s calling out for her bullsh*t. Holly soars miles above Sharon in talent, class, maturity, and integrity. Sharon’s just trash.

  28. Lizzie says:

Anyone think Sharon would praise Piers if he said 1/10 of the filth he aimed at Meghan at her daughter? NO, she would be screaching the loudest that he had to go.

  29. Madchester says:

She’s always been vile. She’s managed to have everyone forget the horrible things she did when she was Ozzy’s manager. I remember seeing a couple articles where she completely ripped off a band mate among many other nasty actions.

  30. olliesmom says:

She knew that it was going to be talked about that day. Carrie Ann knew and that’s why she wasn’t there that day and the day after.

  31. TaraBest says:

I have a very good friend who used to be a personal assistant to someone in the family. While she wouldn’t discuss things in great detail, our friend group all knew Sharon hated her and treated her horribly. She would try her hardest to have no interactions with Sharon at all, and it seemed like Sharon would go out of her way to insult her or make her life difficult.

  32. L4frimaire says:

I’m curious about this hiatus. I hope the rest of the cast decided not to go to work until the network had ,at least, a serious conversation with Osbourne. I bet they got a lot of complaints as well. There must be more behind the scenes, especially when others started showing receipts of Sharon’s bigoted and thoughtless behavior on Twitter. The way she spoke to Sheryl was just so disrespectful and abusive. The. To say she was blindsided, after dropping that nugget about vile Morgan. Did she really think that would be ignored. I’m sure Sheryl had notes because she needed to stay calm and focused, and they all knew this would be discussed on the show. As Holly Robinson said, Sheryl stayed calm because she HAD to.

  33. JRenee says:

They could have had her sit out while they conducted their investigation…the message would have read better than yanking the show, even temporarily, due to her public display. That was awful, she canceled herself!

  34. Annaloo. says:

Bye Sharon, CANCELLED. Enjoy life on Newsmax

  35. You Know Me says:

Sharon is awful. She always has been, she always will be. Without Ozzy to climb up with, Sharon would be just another big hipped, loud, low class woman.

  36. Deeanna says:

I’ve never been a fan. Sharon embodies the word “shrew”. Always has. It was no wonder that poor Ozzy was always seeking love and attention from others.
