Ariana Grande joins ‘The Voice’ as the highest paid coach

Ariana Grande announced this week that she will fill Nick Jonas’ empty red chair for season 21 of The Voice. With Ariana joining the team, the coaches will be nicely balanced with two men, John Legend and Blake Shelton, and two women, Kelly Clarkson and Ariana. Why did Ariana decide to make the jump back to the small screen? Well, according to Rob Shutter from the Naughty But Nice podcast, she had 25 million reasons to do so. Apparently, Ariana scored between $20 and $25 million in the deal, making her The Voice’s highest paid coach ever.

Ariana Grande is bringing in the big bucks!

The 27-year-old “God Is A Woman” superstar announced earlier in the week that she will be joining The Voice next season as a coach.

According to Rob Shuter from iHeartRadio’s Naughty But Nice podcast, she’s also the highest paid coach ever on the show!

“Sources say Ariana is getting a whopping 20 to 25 million dollars for the show, putting her in the same category as Katy Perry on American Idol. Kelly Clarkson got about $15 million when she joined The Voice,” he reported.

[From Just Jared]

Blake and John each earn about $13M a season so, as Rob pointed out on his podcast, the women are the biggest bread winners on the show. I thought I remembered Miley Cyrus making some huge payday when she signed on in season 11, but she earned about $13M, same as the others. I understand that the money is to attract the talent that will bring in viewers and advertisers, but if we were going off straight qualifications, Kelly should be the top earner. She’s the only one who’s gone through and won a singing competition. I like Ari but I’m a little surprised to see her get that kind of payday from this. Although she has the same draw and appeal as Katy Perry, so she should be earning the same figure as Katy. I wonder if Ari will have to promote as hard as Katy does for American Idol? Speaking of Katy and her rival show, if anyone was thinking of adding TV singing coach to their resume, go for The Voice rather than AI. According to Just Jared, other than Katy, AI pays lower salaries across the board. Lionel Richie earns the least – he was a Commodore, for crissakes!

I have no doubt Ari will be entertaining and will fit in well with those other personalities. I’m sure NBC will get their money’s worth. For those who can’t wait to see Ari in season 21, there’s a special treat for you this season: it was just announced that Snoop Dogg is joining season 20 as a mega mentor. Aw man, how much would it take to get Snoop to coach a full season?

Kelly got so much because it was the year AI was relaunching and it took a lot of the focus away from the debut . That was spring 2018. I think at the time there was rumors of a bidding war.

Ariana and Katy Perry are not on the same level. Ariana is currently one of the biggest musical acts going and her fans always pull huge numbers for her. Katy Perry was once really huge, but her last few albums have been middling at best and she doesn’t really have the same draw as she did 10 years ago. I’m not surprised that she’s making significantly more than Katy. I am surprised that her and Miley weren’t closer in pay though.

I was going to say the same. Ariana is hot right now and has the numbers to prove it. I’m not surprised that Miley got less; I can’t even think of any song of hers that made waves. Maybe I missed something? Miley has been making the news for her personal life, rather than her music and it’s starting to show. She needs to reset without all of the antics and let her talent speak for itself.

Yes! And Ariana can siiiing. She’s got pipes. I recommend checking out her buts on late night shows where she sings in the styles of other singers. She is far far more talented than Katy

I’m kinda of tired of Ariana’s voice.

    • Belle says:

I am not tired of her voice, I am tired of the content of her music but then again I may not be the audience but still it’s the same I am rich, pretty, better than you, etc etc. But I understand her appeal and command of this massive pay day. No hate on that at all.

  4. Lauren says:

Katy last few albums have pretty meh. Ari is really huge right now and appeals to a younger audience and in a way that Miley does not. Miley tries to gain attention using her messy private life, while Ari’s music is still pretty much front and center.

Ariana is a better singer than Katy. She reminds me of Mariah when she was young hitting all those high notes so effortlessly.

      • Trillion says:

Katy’s main talent is how to assemble producers and handlers and PR. Otherwise, boobs. Ari is a SINGER for real.

Somewhere I saw people questioning why Arianna would do this – um, no touring still, and $25 mil for a short tv season?
I started watching again when Kelly joined, I really like her.

Judges’ pay is based mostly on popularity. Ariana is huge now and would probably bring in the numbers. Although Lionel Ritchie is a legend he’s not going to bring in a lot of viewers. I think The Voice is more popular than AI so NBC can play with a lot more money.

  7. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I can’t imagine being coached by Ariana lol.

  8. Faye G says:

Ariana is incredibly talented but I can never get into her songs. The lyrics really aren’t my thing, especially this latest album. And I don’t appreciate her appropriation of black women’s style, that’s a miss for me.

  9. Shanaynay says:

Eh….. I still don’t understand the hype for Ariana, and probably never will.
